We've been using Manhattan Pet Service for a little over two years for our two french bulldogs. We first used them when we lived in Hell's Kitchen and now on the Upper West Side. Tarl and his team are reliable, friendly and our dogs love them. They have a genuine love for animals and go out of their way to care for the dogs as if they were their own. As others mentioned, they end each walk by sending a cute note and pic of your pup, which I always enjoy. They do overnight stays and can usually accommodate last minute requests resulting from family's hectic and unpredictable schedule. Tarl is very responsive and their communication is top notch. They try hard to give you a dedicated walker, which we appreciate since we get to know them and they get to know the personalities of our dogs. Several times when I'm walking our dogs, they see their walker and go nuts to get to her and say hello! Its very endearing We spoke to several walkers (and tried them) before settling on Manhattan Pet Services. Not only was their service at a much higher standard, with walkers who love dogs rather than walkers who are just trying to make a little money between down time at school -- it became evident that their prices were as competitive, if not better than most, without any compromise on level of service. If your on the Upper West Side - you should definitely call them for a quote as my experience isthat the UWS walkers charge a rate that is much higher than other parts of the city. Tarl and Chaz are the best! They have been walking my dogs every day for a couple of months. They take pictures of the dogs during their walks, take them to the park and to walk on the east river esplanade, and give me updates after each walk. Also, my dog recently had surgery and they were really there to help me take care of him post surgery with in-home care while I was at work. We've been using MPS since December 2014 when we moved to the city. Our cat at the time had a bit of an adjustment period, and we were going out of town for two weeks shortly after moving. We wanted Lola to be able to stay in one place and get comfortable in her new home. That's where MPS came in, and they're great. They took very good care of Lola (who left us in July 2016) who had various medications that she needed on a daily basis, especially the last few months of her life. Knowing she was in good hands when we were out of town was/is priceless. Our new(er) addition, Jackie, has been with us for a little over a year now. Wow- these guys are absolutely phenomenal. Chaz and Tarl came by for a meet and greet before they started walking our dog. At this meeting, they took their time in getting to know our dog and were genuinely interested and enthusiastic about working with him. They are responsive, friendly, thorough, and most importantly, they work so well with our dog! He is a rescue and we were concerned with some of his behaviors, and they even help him socialize with other dogs at the park and other ones in our building. My dog and I had the pleasure of getting to know Chaz and Tarl of Manhattan Pet Service when I was living in New York City. There are no words to describe how fantastic they were as dog walkers, trainers, business owners, and people. And I highly recommend them if you have a puppy! I have been using Manhattan Pet Service for over 2 years now, since adopting my Charlie girl at 10 months old. I was first drawn in by their reasonable prices (unbeatable for private dog walking in Manhattan!), but I had no idea how blown away I would soon be by the service provided. First, you can absolutely tell everyone who works for Manhattan Pet Service truly loves animals. They put a lot of consideration into who they hire, and have always gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable with who would be caring for Charlie (arranging meet and greets with anyone who would be caring for her). MPS uses GPS tracking so you get notified when the walk begins, and you can see the route the walker takes with the dog. When it's over, you receive a brief summary of the walk accompanied by pictures. I love this feature so much!! It makes me feel reassured that Charlie is safe and I love knowing what goes on in her daily routine. The MPS "sidekicks" are also wonderful. We initially had Heidi, who was the best. Charlie really loved her, and it was evident the feeling was mutual. We went through a difficult phase where after a year of successful housebreaking, Charlie started having accidents inside the apartment. Heidi went out of her way to help me try to figure out what was wrong, and even e-mailed me strategies to help get Charlie back on track. We are now going on several months of accident-free behavior thanks to Heidi! I really can't thank her enough for that. Heidi eventually had to change walk routes and I was introduced to Charlie's new sidekick, Nichelle. I'll admit I was initially hesitant because I'd grown to love Heidi so much, but Charlie absolutely ADORES Nichelle, and so do I. She has a real love for the animals she cares for, and her daily summary of Charlie's walks crack me up - she's hilarious! A neighbor even once told me he overheard Nichelle talking to Charlie to in our elevator like they were old pals, as they were exiting and he was getting on. He said he thought it was adorable and could tell they really have a bond, which warmed my heart. Last but certainly not least, I want to give a shout out to Tarl, one of the founders of MPS. From the moment I initially reached out to inquire about services, he put me so at ease and made the process seamless. When I needed advice about crating, Tarl answered all of my questions patiently and tried his best to help, at no extra cost. He always responds to my emails promptly (often within a matter of only an hour or two) and is very flexible when I need to add/remove walks. I cannot speak highly enough of MPS. I highly recommend Manhattan Pet Service. I used them for 7 months until I moved and was so happy to have found them. Chaz and Tarl would walk Miss Sophie (my 11 year old rescue lab) every Wednesday and would take her when I traveled (which is frequently). I think Miss Sophie's behavior is the best reference. This review is long overdue: I reached out to several dog walking companies and MPS stands out as the absolute best in terms of professionalism, responsiveness, enthusiasm, and knowledge about pets. I continue to be blown away by how amazing they are. When I first called, Tarl patiently answered my questions about their services and also gave super helpful training advice about puppy chewing before I had even signed up as a client. For the meet and greet, Chaz (their trainer) and Ariela arrived and were so warm and friendly both with us and our dog that we felt immediately comfortable giving them access to our home and our new family member. Chaz gave us more training and housebreaking advice and even showed us how to teach polite leash walking outside. I am so grateful to him for setting me on the right track for positive reinforcement training (previously I had read about leash corrections because I didn't know any better). Both Chaz and Ariela have walked our dog (they assign two walkers to each dog in case one is unavailable) and they both go above and beyond in not only showing my dog a good time outside but also training him not to pull or pick stuff up from the ground. I love their updates and pictures after each walk. They also listen and closely follow my instructions. Even though we aren't regular clients because our walk needs fluctuate from week to week, Chaz is super responsive with helpful advice whenever I have an issue with my dog's behavior. He always emails back immediately and his friendliness and warmth come out even through email. I cannot emphasize more how much they go beyond what regular walkers are expected to do in helping me with my dog. Unfortunately, I find their walking services a bit on the expensive side. Their regular rates are well worth their higher price since they provide a much better service than other walkers, but they can become non affordable if you need extra walks outside business hours or other extra services such as medication. Chaz & Tarl have been watching my little french bulldog since the day after I got her at 8 weeks old. I was so nervous about leaving a small puppy while I had to be at work for long hours. These guys immediately put me at ease the first day after I received a full report of the morning, along with a photo of little Hudson--and that has continued every day since. They are truly incredible and are without a doubt animal lovers. Today is a perfect example. My little one wasn't feeling well and was throwing up--I let Chaz know and he went out of his way to buy her chicken broth to settle her stomach. Words can't describe how grateful I am to these two. So understanding, helpful, responsible and caring, which are all of the things we were looking for in a dog walker to take care of our puppy. I found Manhattan Pet Service online and went with them given the good reviews, and they've been amazing! I moved to Chelsea last year from out of town and this was my first time getting a dog walker for Yoda. I appreciated the process of introducing him to the walkers (both primary and back-up), Tarl's prompt responses to any questions and requests, and their flexibility and care for Yoda. My schedule sometimes changes at the last minute, but they're always ready to have someone come by if necessary. In addition to dog walking, I've used MPS for basic training (Carolean is fantastic and patient) and for overnight stays, and everything has worked out great. read more

MPS uses petcheck technology, which allows them to scan in, tracks where the walker & our dog, Sophie, walk on their adventure, and scan out. Heidi, from Manhattan Pet Service, has been walking my dog Bella (shih tzu mix) every weekday for the past 9 months. I am so pleased, and thankful, to have found Manhattan Pet Service to walk Bella. See, before Manhattan Pet Service, I paid a neighbor to take care of Bella for the 1st 4 years I had her - a family whom I completely trusted and who Bella loves. Needless to say I was in tears when I was informed they would no longer be able to and that's where my search for a new dog walker began. Now let me start by saying Bella is a challenging dog (i.e. resource guarding, dog reactive) and I was so nervous about someone new walking her. So when I started calling around I think I scared off some walkers in talking about how she is, how to handle her etc. Tarl and Heidi never flinched about taking us on as a client. After Tarl answered all of the questions I threw at him in an initial phone call, they came to my apartment to meet me and Bella and we took a walk with me explaining pointers about what to do and not do in handling her. I am sure I seemed like the crazy pet parent (both that day and on several occasions since, lol) but they have never once made me feel like they thought I was a crazy pet parent. They are always kind, calm & patient. Fast forward 9 months and Heidi has been a god-send for me. She is really sweet, she has taken my tips (about handling Bella) to heart, and Bella seemed to love her right from the start. I also have 2 cats who although Heidi is not there to take care of, she treats just as lovingly. I have told Heidi when weather is bad to do a quick walk with Bella then hang out back at the apartment so in those instances she can't avoid my friendly cats :) She also refills the water bowls with cold water before leaving - not something I expected a walker to do but a nice plus for the fur-kids. I also love some of the 'perks' that come with using this pet service - I love the PetCheckTechnology website where I can pay my bill, view my schedule, add notes for the walker, and view details after each visit (e.g. notes, photos). I like that I get an email from the system when each walk begins; and I really appreciate the email after the visit is over which always includes notes from the walker as well as 3 photos of Bella, every day. This may sound silly but I like that those emails tell me what Bella did on the walk in terms of potty (#1, #2) because in some cases based on that information I may choose to give her an extra walk after work. Heidi is also great about cleaning up any pet-related mess she may find in my apartment (i.e. puke), and giving me a heads up about what she found, which I really appreciate. Some other amazing things about Manhattan Pet Service is how flexible Tarl has been with scheduling & changes, especially recently when my work hours changed to 4 days/week and my day off varied each week. And Heidi is not one to take time off very often (sucks for her, great for the clients :) ; I think she has been unavailable on a scheduled day maybe 2 or 3 times in 9 months and I always knew in advance; and of course they always have a back-up person available. As an animal rescue enthusiast, and the owner of 3 adopted shelter pets myself (would never have it any other way), I also really appreciate Manhattan Pet Service's kind heart in offering a rescue discount (5% off for shelter/rescue pets). It's a small token but it shows who they are. Bottom line, my experience with Tarl and Heidi has been extremely positive and I highly recommend others contact them if looking for a new dog walker or pet sitter. read more

We are so glad that we found Manhattan Pet Service!!!! We moved to New York about a year ago. We have a tiny, toy poodle, Pierre and he is 11 years old. He doesn't do well with boarding at all....always looks like a refugee when we picked him up. We had friends that sat with him previously. Being new here, I called numerous businesses trying to get information on sitting with him while we are out of town. I left messages at a couple of places, but never received a call back. I was told by another business that if we weren't a regular client for dog walking that they wouldn't sit with him. I called and left a message for Tarl and he called me back within the hour. He was so accommodating and answered all of my questions. We then set up a meet and greet with him and Brooke. Pierre is super sweet and loving, so they all got along wonderfully!! The past time Samantha stayed with Pierre (after coming over for a meet and greet, of course)! We are so very pleased with their services! I cannot say enough good things about MPS. We adopted our dog Lucy last June and weren't really sure where to start. We had received a recommendation for a different dog walking service that wound up being a disaster, so when we finally found MPS it was such a huge relief. Heidi, Morgan, Ariela, & Tarl are all so wonderful and caring with Lucy and me. Especially coming off a bad experience with another company, I was extra neurotic and they have never let me down. They are super accommodating with schedule changes and they do little things that make it so clear how much they care. MPS uses a check in system that sends me an update when the walker arrives and then departs. The departure email includes a map of where my pup went for the walk, bathroom business, notes on how the walk went, and photos. I travel a lot for work and those updates make my day.
