Though they were nice, they were very misleading on the phone regarding price and what they were able to offer. Each person I interacted with told me a different thing and it became very frustrating. The woman only wanted to shave my dog as he was matted. She was pulling his ear telling me I was abusive. I tried to leave since she didn't want to do his cut the way I requested. I should have left my dog is now petrified of her. He has seen her twice since then and he almost breaks his harness running from her. It is beyond disturbing. Why would my dog be running from her frantically? She then tracked down my neighbor saying bad things about me because of my google review. STAY AWAY! I was recommended by a friend in the building as I recently moved into the neighborhood and attempted to make an appointment bc I assumed with a business that is so concerned about social media it's interesting how selective a single remaining shop can be and complete ignore your message when it's very easy to have an outgoing one if your entirely booked ...except unless it's not even relevant. We apparently were not relevant and so considering they are looking for another groomer and I can't image the qualifications being that tough -- if you're in need of a job this place I'm almost certain will hire and no reference necessary. Can't recommend Central Park Pet Spa more! We just moved to the neighbhorhood and was searching for the perfect grooming spot for our very fearful 23 lbs. rescue (Jindo/Shiba/Miniature Schnauzer mix) and are so happy we decided to book with them! As I mentioned, our pup is very fearful, but when the groomer Rose walked in the room to greet her, her tail was wagging and she actually licked her fingers, as if she had known Rose her whole life! I was shocked, and it definitely says a lot about the people who work here that my fearful pup immediately trusted them. Pros-- * Very quick appointment. I contacted on Monday and they were able to get me in on Wednesday. * Asked for vaccine records. So I know my pup is safe with the other dogs they have there. * Asked me exactly what I wanted for my dog's cut, and delivered it exactly. * Great with fearful dogs. Our dog is terrible with teeth brushing and nail clipping, but they did it all! * Friendly staff & groomers! * Easy first time drop off. There was only one sheet of paperwork which was really easy to fill out. * Easy payment. They bill your credit card on file instead of having to get it out to swipe. Cons-- * Price, but it's really standard for the neighborhood we moved to. A full groom (with added teeth brushing) for our 23 lbs. dog was $140 (plus tax of course). I believe the standard cost was $125 for a full haircut/bath/groom, and teeth brushing was an extra $15. But again, this is standard for the area, so it's not really a "con" but more of a note of reference. Their pricing is online for you to check, which I liked. Summary-- Overall, a new client to Central Park Pet Spa and very highly recommend it. They were great with my fearful and anxious pup, and did a really really beautiful cut and she is feeling so good and fresh! read more

If I could give this zero stars, I would. What a horrendous experience. Took my dog for a nail clipping and they had me hold my own dog while they struggled to trim to his nail right in the small entrance of the store where there was no space. The whole time the two ladies at the desk were beyond rude the entire experience. My dog was stressed and freaking out and Jody just kept forcing it, not giving my dog any breaks to adjust to what is happening. I don't understand why I just paid money to someone for them to have me hold my dog and give him treats. In the end, two paws were attended to and I had to ask them to stop because the experience was traumatizing to me and my dog. Can't believe I was still charged for that horrible experience. I had specifically asked them not to cut off my dogs beard I had one request and what did they do? cut off the dogs beard not to mention, not just cutting it but cutting it uneven to. If this is what I wanted, I could have done it myself. Very upset and disappointed! Yes I called and you offered to fix it ? How do you fix hair that you cut of ?? Your going to grow him hair or give him extensions ? It's a mistake you can't fix so why waste my time bringing my dog back there esp after this hideous haircut (won't let anyone there touch my dog again ) There was no matts in my dogs beard, maybe a knot, but it's manageable. And that's not a decision you take upon yourself. You call the dog owner and ask them if it's okay. I did not want his beard touched and I expressed that very clearly! Excuses was made that there was Matt's in my dogs hair and they felt like they had to cut it for the dogs health. For this establishment to suggest my dog had Matt's in his beard (which is a lie) and for health reasons they had to cut it, is bizarre. I take very good care of my dog. He is my whole life, and for them to suggest otherwise shows the real character of this establishment. (Second part of my review was due to a response from establishment on my first part of the review.) They offered to fix it but I don't see how they are going to fix the actual problem which is my Snorkie has no beard - it's the breeds known feature. I asked for a haircut not a change in my dog breed! I was and still am furious! About how my dog looks atm! And making excuses will just make me angrier. You guys should have offered my money back, not to fix something that's not fixable. read more

Reda, the owner and Certified Master Groomer is the best. I started taking my dog to him when he opened his shop in Astoria. I have a 50lb dog and no car and I take her to his shop in the city every four weeks. And she is a shepherd/collie mix so doesn't need a haircut. He is a magician when it comes to deshedding. There is nobody that has ever managed to prevent her from shedding enough hair that I could make another dog. The last time I was there, there were 3 people from Astoria dropping their dogs off. Anyone that takes their dog to CPPS, won't go elsewhere. May be a little more pricey but you get what you pay for. And it is YOUR DOG. (Or cat. He grooms cats). You want the best! TIP- don't go into a groomer telling him/her what kind of cut to give your dog. Good groomers (certainly Reda) know what kind of cut is the healthiest for your pup. Isn't that more important than you thinking a certain cut looks cute or wanting to put a barrette on your dog? Get a doll is that is what you want. read more

For $15 for a nail trim, we were able to walk in and get both doggies trimmed same day by calling in the morning. The owner was very pleasant, and great with our two dogs who normally scream bloody murder every time we try to trim their nails at home. Totally worth it. Winston has gone to CPPS for a few months now, and we really appreciate the time and care they take with him. Winston walks up to the door when we go there and is not afraid to stay. They listen to our requests for certain style preferences we have and keep notes on prior visits to refer to what has been done in the past. This is not the least expensive grooming option in our neighborhood, however the most worth it! This last visit was during the week (the Spa us much busier on the weekends) so Winston being a 20 lb poodle mix was in and out in 1.5 hrs. Lucy cut his hair and did an amazing job. I go here with my dog like every other month they are good at what they do only issue I have is that to many dogs are running around in there at once and there is not a lot of space by the look of it to keep the dogs in the kennel's. I get worried what if my dog gets violated by a male dog so I am just worried about that. The dogs are all free to roam around it's ok to have your dogs go free and walk around but that place is very small like very small so having 4-5 dogs all walking freely then on top of that cats to roam free worries me what if a cat scratches my dog or someone else though haven't heard of that happening it is still on the back of your mind it's like would you leave your child in a daycare if they have a child who can harm another child bc it's in their nature and not being carefully watched? No so I'm just a bit worried about that. Other then that they are a very friendly place I never had an issue with them they cut my little sweeties hair nice and her nails they are all shampooed with organic shampoos incase of allergies with no fragrance added so they are caring just to many dogs roaming around which I will say are friendly dogs by the look of it cats they seem calm and friendly but still I am a little concerned by that only. From the 1st appointment they handled him firm enough so he could drop his napoleon complex but gentle enough for me to not be alarmed- this was the only person who was able to handle him on the 1st try. I am appalled! I took my mini goldendoodle puppy here and they accomplished the impossible task of making him look unattractive. I'm not sure what skill was involved in shaving him clean bald. I asked for a shorter cut, but not that he be shaven bald. The job done looks downright terrible and the groomer should find a new day job. I will never use this groomer again. read more
