Camp Edison is beautiful. We were on campsite 140. Had water, power (30/50 amp), sewer, and a cable T.V. connection. The campground is clean and there's space between campsites. We had a fire ring and bar-b-que too. There's a general store and museum at the campground. The day use area of Shaver Lake is clean and welcoming. Highway 168 heading east of Prather is a steep pull for aprox 12 or 15 miles. There's water stations for those who overheat. One spot coming downhill had a sign saying 11% grade. But it was short. The hardest part of the uphill drive is 4 lanes. read more

This place seems to attract a type of people that aren't there to enjoy the outdoors, but instead party and cause a ruckus. Everything was great the first night, clean showers and bathrooms, and the grounds were clean. However on the second night, a group moved in down the way that was loud, I had never heard a mother cuss at her kids so much, and the camp host do nothing to keep the piece. The final straw was when the group of tenish-year-old boys when into the men's restroom and plugged up the toilet and smeared their fecial matter all over the stall. When I told informed their parents, the dad started to get very confrontational. I would not recommend this campground for anyone who really wants to enjoy nature, it's not even a very good base camp. read more

We just spent 3 days at this campground during the 4th of July holiday which also was our first stay here. Pros -The camp hosts were very helpful and friendly. They came by a couple times to see if we had any questions. -Location, location, location. We were on site #126 which was couple hundred yards away from the water. What more do I have to say? -Our site was large and had plenty of space for a couple of tents. Cons -Some sites are very tough to navigate and backing in was a challenge for us as our site was on a steep incline. -No free WiFi access however, we did pay to have it and service was decent compared to other campgrounds. We have camped here several times in the past year and have never had a problem until this past weekend. The camp hosts and workers were incredibly rude, disrespectful, and angry. They were constantly mad about something and would blame us for things like throwing rocks down the street at other campsites (our kids are toddlers....). I will say we talked to other sites and they were having the same issue so I'm glad it wasn't just us but man, it made for a long four nights. read more

Camp Edison was so cool this last weekend. Our first time visiting and for sure will not be our last. The campground is easily navigated. The signs and map are easy to read. Bathrooms are clean and the whole campground is well kept. Check in was smooth and after reading so many comments and reviews about "rude staff" I was nervous on how it was going to be, I have 4 kids and we like to laugh and have a good time, well just so you know, according to the reviews you can't even breath loudly and that is so not true!!! The host came around, waving and being very friendly (elderberry loop), we kept a decent voice at quiet time and had no complaints. I was so relieved. It was such a great time (I am having camping blues) because we only booked for the weekend. Lol make sure you stay at least three nights. The lake was outstanding!! Beautiful!! Not to cold. It was perfect!! The only con about this campground is that the showers cost, but honestly I'm not even mad about it, they have to pay their water bill!! Lol. Great time. Went up here for the first time with a party of 6 people for 4th of July weekend. The campground is HUGE!!! They have around 250 sites spaced out around the property. Our group stayed at site 11 and we were pleasantly surprised. We did not camp with an RV, our group drove up in separate cars and did tent camping for the weekend. The fire-pit and BBQ grill were clean when we arrived. After reading the description of the site online, I was worried about the site being too small for 3 tents, 6 people, 2 tiny dogs, and 3 cars. I was aware of the surcharges for extra people, pets, and an extra car. For most sites here, the base rate you pay for the reservation is for 4 people. After that there is a surcharge for each person, per night. Back to the site, we had room for everything we brought & setup ladder ball, beer pong table in the space where an RV would be parked. The electrical outlets at the site were useful for charging phones. A walk down to the beach will take about 10 minutes and is all downhill. This made it easier to carry a cooler down to the beach area. The beach area at the southern tip of the map is located in a No Wake Zone so it makes it easy to relax by the water. Considering we were there for a holiday weekend, I'd say the campground was relatively quite at night & early in the morning. The bathrooms and trash areas were clean. I'd definitely be interested in camping at this campground again and would recommend it. read more

Camp Edison, what a great place to camp! I came here for a class fieldtrip for a whole weekend. Camp Edison turned out to be a pretty good place for car camping and I was especially blown away with everything. The camp grounds is very well maintained and I love that the location is right next to Shaver lake. Things that made this place awesome were the clean bathrooms, water facits near your camp ground and the electrical ports. The bathrooms were very well maintained despite the ants and critters can came inside. The bathroom does not smell (thank goodness) and it is not digusting at all. I have pretty high standards and I thought this bathroom was totally fine. I was even comfortable enough to take a dump LOL okay tmi anyways, the camp grounds also have water facits that can be used for drinking or cleaning dishware etc. I thought that was great just because you wouldnt have to go to a bathroom for water. But my FAVORITE part about the camp grounds was that the location had porter charging stations AND service. I know camping is a time to get with nature, but in this day and age, we all use our phones. The charging outlets are all located in a grey pole and I believe they are 2 outlets. There is also pretty good service up there so it's doable for calling people etc. Firewood may be a problem just because its a popular campground so what my class did was collect firewood elsewhere and to just bring it back to the camp site. overall, this place was excellent and I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Shaver Lake is a beautful place (once the lake is filled back up, that is!). I can't decide what I like better: summer or winter! There is a free history museum on site with some great artifacts, photographs, and stories of the history of the area, it's really interesting! My husband and I came camping here August 2017 and we loved it. The campgrounds were clean and well managed. Fellow campers were respectful and followed the rules. Showers were clean. You do have to pay for showers, no biggie. We went down to the lake each day and rented items such as jet skis, party barge boat (super fun) and a paddle boat one day. Second time at Camp Edison. We enjoy the clean restrooms, camp sites and Shaver Lake. HOWEVER....after 10pm is the designated quiet time. It was 11pm and a camp ranger approached our fire pit and ripped into us!!! We understand that there are policies, but there is no need to speak to customers with that tone and attitude. We were simply around our fire pit playing camp fire games, no music, no yelling, maybe some giggling and have having fun. When she left, we all felt super embarrassed and spoken down upon. I have never camped here before ... rt from the start .. they have a new registration building " beautiful " but I can say at least the one staff member that helped us ... was not welcoming was not helpful at all !!! A very clean campground! Access to the lake is close with a nice new store for camping goods. The bathrooms are spotless and it was nice having full hookups in a high alpine camping area. My family and I have camped all over the place and Camp Edison has been on our bucket list for years. We finally made it this week and it lived up to all the rave reviews we had heard. We stayed in the Dogwood loop and our site was well-shaded with gorgeous trees and beautiful boulders. Restrooms were easily accessible and sparkling clean with nice hot water! Plenty of water spigots too so that every campsite has access to water within a few feet. We also loved that the campsites had these really cute wood cabinets for storing items up off the ground! I want to give a shoutout to the Camp Hosts who seemed to work incredibly hard to keep this campsite impeccably maintained! When we arrived you could see our campsite had literally been raked clean - there were rake marks around the firepit, tent area, picnic table, etc. It looked like a zen garden! I've never seen camp hosts take such pride in maintaining a campground and I'm saddened to see some reviewers had negative experiences with them. We had zero issues with them whatsoever! They were very friendly and accommodating! We had two campsites back to back and one night we stayed up until 12:30am chatting by the fireplace (no music or anything ) and got no complaints whatsoever. We were also with a total of 4 very rambunctious young boys between two families and had no complaints about them either. The staff at the checkin booth and the camp store were all so friendly and went out of their way do little things like give stickers to our kids, give us tips about booking sites, tell us about activities like their scavenger hunts, etc. It just couldn't get any better. Staff greeted us kindly, camp hosts (Debbie and Steve) were awesome. Lake is beautiful. Weather was awesome. Reviews about Karens and racism seem to be you find what you look for. I don't go camping to play music so idk if I'd be in their spot but I appreciate not hearing more than low music, no screaming and no people that go camping really just to get drunk. Rules should be known, followed and enforced as equally as humans can. And I don't think camp employees get deescalation training and shouldn't need it. Follow the rules, be kind and kindness comes back at ya and has here, for us. Clean, beautiful and as close to being in nature with all our stuff as can be. And pro-tip the wood guy yelling "firewood" is an awesome example of a guy bustin it to make a $ and provide delivered firewood to your site. read more

Such a great campground! We had site 24 which was close to the bathrooms and a short walk to the lake. Rudy was our camp host and was very friendly and kept the bathrooms spotless. We were tent camping and all sites around us were a mix of tents and RVs but I can't stress enough how quiet this campground is!! People were very nice, respectful of others, and the sites were great. No need for bear boxes here, but all sites do have a cabinet for storage with a latch. Not a lot of wild life to worry about but don't leave your trash unattended. They had a cute library at the campground as well as daily activities to attend. The General Store was amazing and we visited it daily. Yummy ice cream too. The lake was gorgeous and so fun. We rented a pontoon boat and took full advantage of all the lake had to offer. Overall a great experience and I am telling everyone I meet about Camp Edison. We cannot wait to go back! read more

We stayed here for the week leading up to thanksgiving. Lots of spaces with rocks and trees around every site. The dogwood loop has water throughout the winter so it stays open but it's not full hookups as we learned. Each site has electric but no water or sewer. With a hundred foot hose though you will be able to reach a water hook up. The lake is beautiful. We will be returning for the summer and see how water sports go on the lake. read more

Be aware of the older lady with short blonde hair who patrols around the area in a white truck. SHE IS RUDE! I wanted to go off on her after the way she approached my group of friends but we drove 5 hours & was not about to get us kicked out of the camp that late in the day. It was not even 6 pm yet when she came over to our site and said she didn't want to hear no music nor any phone notifications coming from us 5 or we would get removed from the camp. We've been here twice with our overlanding club and both times the facilities have been wonderful. Bathrooms and showers are super clean and well spaced. The sound curfew (10:00) is enforced which makes for more restful nights. Nice little convenience store for anything you might have forgotten (ahem - bug spray). What started off as a nice week of camping for 3 adults, 3 young kids (ages 4&5) and 2 dogs turned into a really disappointed and early ended trip. We tent camped and were supposed to do 3 nights. Some pros about Camp Edison - it's right on the water and the access to the marina and beach area was very easy! We rented a boat through the marina and while it was chilly - we had a blast! But on our third morning (end of second night) - we decided to pack up and leave early. At first, this was simply due to us forgetting our pillows and it being cold (we tent camped) which wasn't the camp's fault and entirely ours - but as we were headed out to the beach for an hour to let our kids run off steam, the camp host (who didn't introduce themselves at all) came by to tell us that we needed to control our pets. There was no good morning or anything - my GSD barked once as he approached and he said "that's exactly what the problem is". He proceeded to berate myself and my friend (our third adult and only male was showering and we know he waited until the male of our group left) on our pets saying they had warned us already about our dogs barking and our noise and multiple people had complained and if we didn't control them we would be removed from the camp. We said we hadn't been warned to which he replied "it doesn't matter they are barking". I replied that we were leaving early anyways and he replied with "that doesn't matter get them under control". My friend replied with "dogs bark it's how they communicate and we haven't been allowing them to bark constantly or excessively" to which he relied "people don't come camping to hear dogs - they come to relax" and walked away. While we have larger dogs - and they did bark at times - the barking was minimal unless another dog walked by - in that case all dogs started barking (including other sites) and while we were packing up another dog at a site near by barked almost consistently without being scolded at while ours sat quietly. His demeanor and tone upset us to the point we just packed up and left. We also went to bed quite early - 8 PM - well before quiet hours - and while we wake up early (around 6) we tried to keep the dogs quiet - but that was hard considering people traversing through our camp site to get to the bathrooms instead of the access road. Literally the night before we had someone right outside our tent walking to the bathroom. But we controlled them easy! But it seemed like if a dog barks at all, and you are not a regular here, they will berate you. This entire area didn't seem overly dog or family friendly. We got constant looks from older retired people when our kids were playing on the rock formation right behind our camp site. It felt very much like if you wanted to speak above a whisper at all you wouldn't be welcomed. If you tent camp - go somewhere else! If you have young kids - go somewhere else! The ground wasn't flat and our site said it could accommodate 2 large tents but that was a lie - unless you wanted a tent right next to the bathroom and on a hill. You really couldn't tell where one site ended and another began and it was packed! It seemed like we were the minority and everyone else there RV Camps and doesn't tent camp and NO young kids. The women who checked us in seemed annoyed and unhappy. The camp store didn't have anything we needed except firewood and no children's medicine - but a tone of adult medicine (which I know they don't need to carry but I would rather see children's Tylenol than 45 types of candy for kids). The store employees were super nice though! The best part was actually the hot (scalding actually) showers and clean toilets. But next time, we will go back to Dinkey Creek - which seemed to be more family oriented and more welcoming to diversity. FYI I counted a solid 5 Q-Anon stickers in a 10 camp site radius - so that should tell you the type of people who are there. read more

YOU MUST READ: We just got back yesterday from our trip. We stayed Saturday through Monday. We have been coming to this place for the last four/five years in a row. We fell in love immediately. We plan on coming here for many years and make memories that will last a lifetime. The bathrooms are clean, and the staff has always been super nice until this year. I have to be honest and share our experience. We had sites 17 & 3, which pair together very well. From the moment we arrived we were immediately greeted by the host in site 16. I'm not sure they are permanent hosts but if that's the case good luck and prepare to be watched with a microscope during your entire visit. We decided to invite our close friends who had a party of 4. This was their first visit ever and she has two teenage kids. Her son brought a bow & arrow. However before he decided to take it out he was very responsible and asked the woman host in site 16, if that would be okay. She immediately informed him that it was unacceptable and could be a reason to be evicted from the park. She said it didn't seem like a dangerous weapon and she shared with him how she had guns in her 5th wheel. She informed my friends son that they aren't allowed to have them but they still have them. We should have known that from that moment on it was going to be all down hill. There was a total of nine of us and a small dog. A seven year old was the youngest person in the group. The man in site 16, who was a host made sure he attempted everything to try to ruin our visit. He called the park ranger on us because the dog was off the leash for 5 minutes. Mind you we were away all day on Sunday with the dog at the lake. The moment we came back my son took the leash off. He saw it and reported it and exaggerated to the front office. We were treated so poorly and threaten to be evicted if the dog came off the leash. We are very good people and respect the laws and rules always. This came as a shock to me and my party. Remember it was my friends first visit. Sucks we were treated this way. Stay away from hosts in site 16, not only do they carry guns but will watch your every move. Mind you they had a party of 20. There were a total of 6 tents on their site. But me and Rick at the front desk worked it all out and he was apologetic. He has always been kind to us. Back to the beauty of Shaver Lake, you must visit and book six months in advance. The lake was at full capacity with water. It was great to see. This place offers movies at the outdoor amphitheater and other family friendly activities. This will not stop us from coming back. read more

We found out about Camp Edison when looking for dog friendly destinations. Originally from Michigan, camping seems somewhat boring without water activities. We have been going to Camp Edison for 8 years now and always book for early August which lets the lake warm up a bit. We have never been disappointed. The campground is very well kept with the modern conveniences any girl would love. Hot and cold running water, restrooms and showers cleaned several times a day, and even a laundromat on site if you want to freshen up things a bit. I highly recommend renting a pontoon boat and spending at least a day exploring the shoreline. You can beach the boat just about anywhere and jump out for a swim or picnic. There is a pretty little waterfall on the far side of the lake hidden by a massive boulder but still easy to get to. Fishing is good and my husband scored a few large trout. Our dogs run off leash on the beaches and enjoy swimming and fetching sticks. Once you get out of the campground beach area you will be amazed how little traffic is on the water and can easily find a private and secluded spot to enjoy the day. The scenery is gorgeous and we often take day trips to Dinkey Creek, Huntington Lake, Yosemite or Kings Canyon. A casino is not very far away if you are looking to change up your pace. There isn't much in town for shopping but we always grab food at Shaver Lake Pizza and they even deliver to your campsite. Firewood is available in the campground but we found a house off Tollhouse Road that sells good bundles for $5. There is a stable outside of the campground if you enjoy a peaceful ride around the lake but I suggest a morning ride so you are not tormented by bugs and heat. There are also several "trails" that we take to drive to other places around the lake. In the evening you are likely to spot deer. Making reservations is a bit annoying as you have to send a fax in December and wait for a call back in January. However they will work with you on campsites and dates and pictures of each campsite are on the website. Our favorites are 125-130 as they are more private and spacious. read more

Just by chance this is the second weekend in a row that we were camping in the Sierras at Edison. My wife and I consider it a weekend getaway spot. today I received a phone call from one of the staffers name Ladonna to talk to me about something about the camping spot and how it was left. I was still on property checking out our next campsite in a few weeks. I went back over to our camp site, and Ladonna accused me etching out my name on the picnic table and said "that is vandalism ". my wife and I are in our 50s. we didn't even do that in our teens let alone now. I was absolutely offended . We went straight to the office and cancelled our next trip . Camp host next to 237. You sure are grumpy... liers and I think two hours of pay per day is way too much and your resentments have mad you misrable. read more

I was nervous about taking my family of four to Camp Edison and Shaver Lake prior to my arrival. I read the reviews and it sounded great, but none of my camping friends had ever heard if it. Plus the fact that we would be spending a week there in the hottest part of the year, mid-August. First, I was pleasantly surprised that the town of shaver lake was cute, quaint and had 6 or 7 eateries. Then the entrance to Camp Edison really impressed me, it looked and ran more like a national park than a private camp ground. Everyone was really nice and helpful and our camp site was lovely .we had a lake view and a large rock hill for climbing and star gazing. Our whole campground loop was clean and convenient. As for the lake, it was beautiful, situated at around 4,000 ft altitude between the mountains and pines, the beaches were clean and the weather was never unbearable even in the 90's because of the water and shade. The whole week was amazing we swam, fished, boated, hiked, and even joined in some of the camp activities like yoga by the lake and the ice cream and cookie social. One of the best family camping trips we've ever had! I cannot wait to go back next summer!!!! read more

We went to McKenzie Preserve in the morning for Discovery Hike Trail and picked up some yummy BBQ pork riblets, potato salad and jalapeño cheese bread from a market in Prather , then drove to Shave Lake Camp Edison campground for a picnic. Then we went to China Peak and Huntington Lake. Camp Edison was very quite today , not much visitors. We pretty much had this place all to ourselves!!! I have been coming to this campground at Shaver Lake since I was a little girl and its beauty never ceases to amaze me. There are plenty of things to do here, you can rent a WaveRunner or pedal boat and explore the lake, float on a raft in a cove, or go horseback riding at the nearby stables. Each campsite has a table, fire pit, cabinet, and the all-important electrical outlet (bring extension cords and power strips!). There are hot showers (twenty-five cents per minute), flush toilets & a laundromat. Some tips: When choosing your campsite, look for one about two or three sites away from the bathroom. You don't want to be too close to the bathroom (very bright spotlight + noisy paper towel dispensers), but you don't want to be too far, either (you will be hiking uphill either to or fro). If you don't like loud partying crowds, stay away from the loop with the lakeside/lake view sites, especially on the weekends. I stayed there for the first time this year and if this were my first Camp Edison experience I would probably never go back (fortunately, I know better). The sites are tiny, oddly laid out (our food cabinet was nowhere near the table or firepit, and you had to cross a deep ravine to get to it), you are practically camping right on top of your neighbors and on the weekends you get the loud-mouth Fresno gang-banger wanna-bes coming up to spend one night of loud cursing drunken revelry. (Thank God they were just there for one night... we were seriously considering heading home early until we spied them packing up their gear.) I will not be staying in this loop again. NIce reprieve from the confines of the Central Valley. About 5400 feet up in the Sierra Nevada. This site is just off the 168 and by Shaver Lake. It's an amazing place to escape! It has electricity, cable, and limited high-speed WI-FI internet access. My only complaint is that some of the vegetation had overgrown the driveway and made it difficult to maneuver around. Plus it appeared that the previous winter has made part of the drive a washout. So it was sandy and difficult to drive in. We ended up backing out instead of using the pull through option. Since they've had to cut down many of the shade trees the views of the lake are even better but those looking for a heavy canopy of trees might be disappointed. We did see lots of the bark beetles around. So be aware as you are packing up gear and heading home. read more

This is our first time here and it won't be the last. The campsites and bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I was told the lake is higher that it has been, which was nice. Water is nice and clear. Other campers were very respectful and abided by the quiet hours 10pm-7am. It was a wonderful camping trip. I'm in total agreement w/ Christian S. For this city girl, camping at Camp Edison is truly an enjoyable experience. LOVE the availability of the clean restrooms and showers. The camp hosts do a great job of keeping everything neat and tidy. The lake is beautiful and there are nice trails for hiking. read more

We have number 241 and the directions here are difficult to come to. When we did arrive we realized we didn't have our own water supply dedicated to us. My dad tried calling and they didn't answer. The people next to us were generous to let us use there water. Make sure that you know what you getting and have water. The view is great and it is nice. read more
