The campground seems well kept, glad we found an available site day of. Not many people tent campers, most sites booked were for rv camping. Our site was a short walk to the lake but there were several sites directly in front of lake access. The lake is beautiful and enclosed, with a beautiful mountain as a backdrop. I usually love going to Silver Lake but the last two years have been very windy. Also the showers are a hit or miss if they work and the camphost lock one shower for their personal shower, so it's down to 3 showers for the entire campground. read more

I think some people are confusing this National Park site with the private one run across the street (Silver Lake RESORT Campground). This one you reserve through recreation.gov, and is on the lake side, not the river side. But both are awesome! We somehow lucked out and got a two-night slot in what I think is THE BEST SITE - site 17 which is LITERALLY ON THE LAKE, with hardly any neighbors, heavily shaded, and a GRASSY knoll for your tent. Deer strolling through your site. No major bear issues now that they built a dedicated fish-cleaning station away from the camp. Waterfalls that you can hear as you fall asleep at night. Water lapping at the shore to lull you into the Land of Nod. Well-maintained clean bathrooms. Lovely pay showers with floor squeegees you can use to do your part to keep them clean. (Pro-tip - the kind camp hosts keep quarters in case you need 'em to shower!) The only drawback was the plethora of mosquitos, but you have to expect that when you're so close to the water. It was a teeny price to pay for the unparalleled beauty we were treated to in this beautiful oasis! We cannot wait to return. read more

Came to check out the digs (parking and location) around the Rush Creek Trail Head (where I may possibly be entering the JMT trail in a few months. The campground is very close to Silver Lake (one of my favorite locations) and many trails, in addition to all that the June Lake area has to offer. read more

This was an awesome campground for a weekend getaway from LA and so close to Mammoth! Tips: -There is potable running water, toilets, and [paid] showers - just be sure to bring your own drinking water or filters. -The wind got pretty crazy in the valley so remember to stake your tent otherwise it will collapse on you, hopefully not when you're sound asleep! Also, it gets FREEZING COLD even in the middle of July. We had people wearing scarfs, thermals, and mittens during the night and into the early morning. -The June Lake swimming area/beach is a quick drive away and is pretty clean. I didn't end up showering or using wipes after a quick dunk. Just be aware that the water is COLD (like I had a mild headache and brain freeze after running out). -Not a lot of mosquitoes. I heard they can't take the elevation? -The weeds and grass around the campsite can cause some wicked allergies if you stay around long enough so bring tissues and medicine if you need it. I was sniffling by the second night and all the way back home. -Store all your fragrant stuff in the provided bear lockers. We didn't see any bears but better safe than sorry. Thank god none of them came after the Sour Patch Kids that were stashed in my backpack near my tent! -The view of the surrounding mountains is amazing especially during sunrise and sunset. You're also going to get a kick-ass view of the night sky when the stars come out! read more

I have to start or be saying how quiet it is here. Our first night here there was only one group being loud at about 9:30p but with the brush and breeze the sound quickly cross off. The wind blows and gives a good background noise, the camping sites are nice and come with large bear boxes for holding your food. Camp host came to visit in the morning and she was very friendly. We stayed three days (Fri-Sun) and the bathrooms were kept clean, the tables are in great shape, and the water is good and plentiful. This place is not an official RV site but it fits them well if you back in and it has one water spigot specifically for RV fill-ups (no other amenities though, it's dry camping with no dump station). There is easy access to the lake and tails to and from the water but something I really liked is how there are lots of little water spots separated by the foliage. You an sit at the waters edge in one area while people are fishing, or relaxing, just a 10-15 feet over to ether side but you feel like you have the place to yourself. Sharing one side of the camp is a day parking area with a small boat ramp but it's not a placing for speeding, just a few miles down the road is a much lager lake where folks go to water ski so you don't have that noise here. What would have made this pace a 5? A map of the site, even one nailed to the entrance wallboard, would have been helpful. We drove almost the full loop the night we got there to find out space. A map of the surrounding area would also have been nice; are their trails near by? other things to see? (I saw a small waterfall across the road and up the hill but couldn't figure out how to get to it). read more

I always heard the expression "happy camper" but never truly understood it until we stayed at Silver Lake Campground... My family and I were sad to leave... BEAUTIFUL campground, lake, wildlife, fishing, boating, FRESH AIR, friendly people, local and visitors. The store is full of everything you need and great souvenirs... The cafe is BEAUTIFUL inside with delicious food. I LOVE a clean cafe! Just can't say enough positive things about our experience! We'll definitely be back. :) As the campground is a government campground, not owned by Silver lake resort... the store and cafe are RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. They have little cabins of their own, we didn't stay in one but would! Looks super cute and constantly saw staff taking care of them and the grounds. read more

I really liked this campground. We stayed in site #53, and it's right by the shower/bathroom. At first I was a bit hesitant with that but it was very convenient! Campground is very clean and quiet. We made a day trip to Yosemite while staying here and it took us about 2 hours to drive down to Yosemite Valley. We got to drive through the east side of Yosemite and there were so many beautiful areas where you could hike or take photos. June Lake is also nearby and great to swim, Kayak or Paddle board during the summer time. We went in November and it was VERY cold in the evening, hitting as low as the 20's. During the day it was perfect! I can imagine that during the summer it'll be perfect weather :) read more

I loved camping at Silver Lake Campground. My mum and I arrived mid-afternoon and we were greeted by the camp host, Solice, almost immediately. She was completely delightful and just radiated kindness - and she gave very good advice! She pointed out the nearest stinging nettle, gave us great tips on what to do in the area, and was overall quite lovely. And she kept the place spotless. The campground and all facilities were clean and neat. I had read the reviews for this place and the RV spot across the street, and found them to be pretty spot on. The cocoa at the RV place was delicious (you can't go wrong with a mountain of whipped cream) and it was a very short walk from the campground. There was a family reunion shin-dig going on at one of the nearby sites and it looked like so much fun! The place was calming and pretty and oh my goodness the stars were incredible!! I'm determined to return - hopefully with my whole family. read more

I haven't visited Silver lake since I was a kid, and decided to try and show up on 4th of July weekend with a group of friends and try to stake claim on a "walk up" camp ground. Being a dumb dumb, of course there were no available sites. And do to the heavy snow fall this winter, the lake had flooded some of the camp sites. But, the staff at the camp ground were so welcoming and helpful, did what they could and landed me and my group a camp site. I had an awesome time and everything was so beautiful. I will for sure return, but next time with a reservation. All the camp hosts, both Karen's and Celise were so awesome! They all enjoy some chocolate, so bring some with! But don't leave them out at night, bears! read more

Skip the Yosemite tourist insanity, and make your way to this little gem! Our drive (including food/gas/rest stops), was only about 5.5 hours. The campground was extremely well-kept. The bathrooms are the best campground restrooms I've ever used- flushing toilets! A sink! No poop on the walls/floors! You are only seconds from fishing and a boast launch. The lake is full of trout. Keep a lookout for free fishing days, twice a year (meaning, no license required, even out-of-towners!). The park rangers/attendants were awesome, helpful, and knowledgeable-- you can tell they love what they do. Say hi to Matthew! Just down the road is Mammoth, Lee Vining, Yosemite, and Mono Lake, and probably a dozen other beautiful lakes. We spent three nights camping, and easily could have spent more time exploring the area. The nearby showers at June Lake makes a longer camping stay very comfortable! read more

My family has been coming to this campground since my 70 y.o. dad was a teenager. Central to all the recreational things you would ever want to do on a vacation. My only complaint is the showers are in poor condition for only being a few years old. A great place to start a tradition for your family. read more

Beautiful location, came to visit on Fourth of July weekend. Being surrounded by two beautiful waterfalls was mesmerizing, snow was still visible and the lake was lovely. Site #42 Nice Forrest Service Campground with about 30 walk-up sites for those of us who aren't great at planning. Campground Google Maps make it look sparse, but there's way more room between sites than at nearby Oh Ridge or Reversed Creek. Southern loop is a lot more overgrown, Northern loop is more open. You're in a valley so you lose sunlight both morning and evening. It gets cold earlier and stays cold later in the morning. The wind can be really crazy. Bring layers! Bathrooms were clean, potable water spigots placed every few sites were convenient (the water tastes great). 2/4 showers were out of order and the others had a lot of mold staining. End of season, maybe it needed a deep clean. Super windy 3/4 days we were there and that helped with any noise. But there was a site to our right that had 10 to 12 people (limit is supposed to 6) staying and they partied until 1 or 2 am each night, leaving red cups and litter strewn about in the morning. Very surprised they were allowed to carry on as much as they did. You're close to some good hikes with the trail head to Ansel Adams right across the street. Hike up to Gem Lake for beautiful views all the way to Mono lake. p.s. Some reviewers comment on a cafe and horseback riding -- that's the private RV parking lot across the street, not this campground. Site #42 This is tucked in at the end of the Northern loop. The creek is to one side, lots of green to the other. Feels nice and private with a couple of sheltered areas for tents. The ground is VERY uneven, so tent camping without a decent air mattress would have been uncomfortable. It's also right next to the creek. After four dry years, the creek is way down and the site is just fine. Earlier in the season or after we get another wet winter, I suspect the site could be muddy/swampy. Lots of people fishing in the creek, but they were all respectful and never walked through our site to get to it. read more

This was our first trip to Silver Lake campground. Our friends have been inviting us for the last 15 years and we were finally able to attend. Now I understand why they've returned so many times. Geographically speaking, there are very few places as beautiful as this area. Plenty of lakes,streams and creeks to fish, and countless paths to hike...truly is "Gods Country". Waterfalls galore and cascading mountain peaks surrounding you, you are constantly in awe. This would have been one of the best trips ever had it not been for one reason, rather person....the camp host. We should have known when we met this gal. She presented her name as "Solice......like Police". I didn't think much of it until 2 nights later when a group of us had gathered around the fire for comradary. Having some beers, admittently, and listening to some country songs, someone turned up a song they liked. Before the song ended, Police...er...Solice arrived with hysterical verve and attitude. Instead of simply stating to turn the music down, she instigated the situation for no other reason then to flex her camp host muscle. This was 8:30pm...and a country song to boot...without a warning, she pulled our friends tags and called the police. They were removed from the campground the next day. This was over absolutely nothing and due to her inability to do her job. We met the supervisor of the camp hosts the following day. I understand now why Solice reacted this way, her supervisor was just as much of a little power tripping nazi. Her training obviously had been passed down. Bottom line: beautiful area, horrible 2 faced camp host who cannot handle her job. Our group of 9 families will be looking elsewhere for next years trip. read more

This campground was recommended by a National Park Ranger and we are so glad we took her up on it. It is in such a beautiful location at the bottom of several mountains of the Eastern Sierra Range. There are waterfalls on the mountains and Silver Lake is right beside our campsite. We are only here for two nights so will have to come back for more! read more

My wife and I had a 7 day reservation (June 7-14 2017) at this campground. When we arrived we were very impressed by the campground and the scenic beauty. The camp host Karen and Solice were extremely pleasant and helpful. The first four days it pretty much blew non-stop and floating fishing was out of the question. On the fifth day it snowed most of the day. Needless to say we were very disappointed in the weather but all in all we enjoyed our stay. We ended up at Gull lake for the remainder of our stay where the wind was not as strong. We will return to Silver Lake again. read more

This was one of the worst campgrounds on a 3 week trip west from MN. The ground was desert brush and rocks. The lake is near but not visable from the campground. The wind was horrable. The people were nice and the camp host were great. I was supposed to stay for several days but one night was plenty. If your looking for remote 10 miles away from any services, windy and cold in June then this is the spot for you. The camp host couple weren't happy with the wind either and they did tell me that many people leave early because of it and you don't get a refund from reserve america. read more
