We've been here two days now and I have nothing bad to say! The camp is clean and has everything we need. There are both private and public showers available. The bathrooms are are clean. They have a 10pm curfew which I love! The store has everything you could forget or need and more. The staff here is friendly and helpful. It sits right next to the lake and it's so relaxing. We live 6 hours away and I think this place is worth it! read more

Camp Lotus is a home away from home. The grounds have thoughtful design, it's family friendly, and is run by people who obviously care for it and their campers. Campsites are private and the amenities are clean, which makes my camping experience that much better. Like Noelle M. Says, Camp Lotus is rafter central. The American River sports 30+ rafting companies and a gaggle stay here. This place is also party central, the oddity is when the rules say 10pm is quiet time, somehow most people get it. Some don't though. Parking is a zoo, and the sites are pretty close to each other, a literal beer bottle toss away. I have never seen so many cars planted next to each other in the lots. One good thing is the mass of blue recycle bins, where it gets filled quite a bit with cans and bottles overnight. Come to party, we did, i hope they have a quiet section for those who camp for nature purposes. read more

Like toasty said, Parking is BAAANNNAAANNAS. But once you get settled its all smooth sail from there until you go rafting. I went with family and friends. We went on a lvl 3 ride. Bumpy enough for you to get the feel. 1. Staff was nice/sense of humor. 2. Cheaper on weekdays rather than weekends. 3. Tents provided. Sleeping bags not. bring blankets; plenty, it gets cold in the morning. 4. Be prepared to get wet by other boats. 5. Night time was the best, the stars are a nice addition and much kudos to the shooting star i saw. other than that, it was a great time. read more

If you are looking for a nice, quiet getaway from it all place, keep going. Camp Lotus is grand Central station for the river rafting companies. There are 100s of people coming through there for their rafting tours, big trucks and van with large loads of rafts fill the small roads and parking lot. Not the relaxing camping experience I was hoping for. However, it is right on the river, has recycling for each campsite, clean showers and restroom, a store that has most everything that you will need...beer, ice, fresh baked muffins, etc. and is located near several wonderful small wineries. When you come bring earplugs, watch out for the geese wondering through, don't expect any privacy and be sure NOT to end up with campsite #7. It is the WORST campsite in the whole place...RIGHT next to the road and the store. Plus it is soooo small. read more

We held our October wedding at Camp Lotus. Everything turned out so perfectly! Such a beautiful and reasonably priced venue. Our ceremony and reception were held right next to the river, which made for a peaceful and serene environment. We stayed in the Yuba cabin that night- the bed was so comfy and there was plenty of room for me and my girlfriends to get ready prior to the event. You have got to be kidding me. I have never seen such false advertising in my life - and I am almost 50. The website makes it seem as if it's a tranquil place next to the river. Even the name give that impression. In fact it's this: cram as many tents as they possibly can on to dirt and grass. This place is pathetic. Their website is nothing but a lie. Sure, if your plan is just to sleep somewhere before a river trip and you don't care how many other people sleep right next to you, go for it. But lotus should advertise themselves that way. read more

The good - Wonderful swimming and place to float in the water. Ideal for rafting as there are tours that launch from there. The staff is accomodating and baked goods in the morning wonderful. Bathrooms and showers are kept very clean and campground is in general very well maintained. Campsite equiped with fire pit, picnic table, running water and electric. The bad - Campsites are right on top of each other with no privacy. We stayed in 2, which was small and tucked in between two other campsites. You can see and hear everything. I did not sleep very well at all. Overall I very much enjoyed the one-night trip becuase it was easy to get into the water. I don't imagine that I will stay again though. read more

Reading some of the reviews here about the place , I guess we were not the only that have the same issue. Like moving our tents without asking our permission. We got their around 11 am. We're also aware that check in is not til 2? Or 3? Anyway, around 5 pm they finally had our tents. Got us situated and all. After everything was set up we went to the river for like an hour (I'm sure we're gone not even an hour) 1 of my friends went back to our tents but came back to us rushing telling us that they are moving our stuff. I asked the guy who helped us set up, he said that "oh we put you on the wrong spot..*carrying one of our tents and then left. Coz the family who reserve the spot arrived...they waited for i don't know how long. While we waited couple hours for them to have us set up. The other girl who work their talking to the family, I asked her why did you move our stuff without asking permission? She just said that we were in the wrong spot and they've been waiting and try paid for it. I told her that how long we've been there waiting for them to us and we paid too. She was so rude and didn't even apologized for what happened. She just continue moving our tents.. read more

Absolutely terrible camping experience here at Camp Lotus. I am so eager to leave my feedback that I am writing this the moment I got home. First the few good things about this camp: 1. It is close to Coloma and the Marshall Gold Discovery Park 2. The shop has quite a good selection of gear and merchandise and are reasonably priced 3. Many of the local river rafting company departs from this camp. The one we used was WET. Now for the bad... I took my family with 2 kids for some white water rafting and what I was hoping to be a good relaxing weekend. We arrived at around 11pm on a Friday night. In the car, I instructed the kids that the quiet hours were 10pm-7am so they should be real quiet so we don't disturb the other campers. When we arrived at our camp site J1, there were campers in J2 who clearly didn't care one bit about the quiet hours policy. They were drinking, cussing, talking and laughing loudly, and simply don't have any consideration for others. I asked them to tone it down at around 1am and that worked for about 20 minutes until more of their friends arrived around 1:30. Then the talking, weed smoking, drinking, and cussing continue until 4am. And I was kept up all night. One of their friends also thought they were too loud and decided to bring his sleeping bag and sleep on my campsite. WTF? Of course, there are no employees there to enforce the rules so everyone around those inconsiderate bastards just had to deal with it. I compliant the next day and the nice lady in the shop gave me a free muffin and only changed my campsite after I made multiple demands. My kids and my wife were so disenchanted by the experience that they wanted to leave and not stay another night. But I insisted that we try and enjoy ourselves so we stayed. The next night we stayed at a different camp site and it was a little better. It was still too crowded as the place was packed with people and the entire camp is smokey. Everywhere you walk there are people all over so you don't feel you can truly wind down. Even though it was quieter than the first night, the noise at 12am was still quite loud all over. I went to sleep listening to some kids singing the National Anthem over and over. But I was too tired and burnt out to keep my eyes opened. I was awaken the next day at 6am by some kid who screamed and cried endlessly while his parents did nothing to stop him...yes, at 6am. If you choose this camp, don't expect to get more than 4-5 hours of sleep. And safety is of course another concern when you see and smell people smoking marijuana all over the place. And last but not least, parking is horrible as there are simply too many people. For $12 per person, it is anything but a bargain. I will not be coming to Camp Lotus again and also would NOT recommend this camp to anyone. But for those who still want to book at this place even after reading this, I suggest you choose camp site H or I to be more secluded from other campsites. You will also be closer to the river so you will listen more to the water flow than people...hopefully. Good luck! BTW, the only reason I gave them more than 1 star is because the lady in the shop did change my campsite and was apologetic that I was kept up till 4am by those rowdy and inconsiderate people. Do yourself a big favor and don't stay here. read more

I really want to give a 5-star review of this campground. It is clean, organized, the setting couldn't be better, and the staff are friendly. The first night was great. Our neighbors, including the ones with children, were quiet, private, respectful of others. We all shared the space at the camp and in the water without a hitch. The second night, however, was a nightmare. A family "of four" moved in with at least 8 kids. The parents bickered (yelled at each other) constantly, the kids screamed and fought with each other and with the parents nonstop. The kids kept sneaking over looking in our tent while we were in it. They stood and stared at us as we prepared our food and attempted to eat. When we headed to the water for some privacy and quiet r&r, they followed and continued to scream at each other while they were "having fun" in the water. As quiet time (10 pm) arrived, the father turned on the ball game on the radio. He would not turn it off despite reminders about the "quiet time." We finally moved our tent as far away as possible after midnight. Then the kids woke us up with their piercing screams by 7 am, and the parents followed suit yelling back at them. When I alerted the office staff to issues early in the evening, one of them cycled by but didn't happen to hear anything. He promised to come by again later, but I never saw him. There was nobody in the office or available by phone to alert to problems after 10 pm, so I'm unclear about how the quiet time was to be enforced. The bottom line is: the staff are definitely soft on enforcing quiet time, and if I can't count on a minimum of quiet, I won't be staying at Camp Lotus again. read more

Great place to camp! Every camp site is grassy, there is shade and if you are there at the right time plenty of fresh blackberries can be picked straight from the bush. They don't use pesticides either so they are all organic! Flushing toilets and hot showers. Sometimes parking can be a pain if the camp is full (weekends in August) but you always find a spot somewhere. The river is right there so you can swim, fish and fall asleep to the sound of water. Wildlife is constantly around (deer, sometimes skunks, squirrels, geese, etc) which is nice to see. read more

If you are looking for the "get away from civilization and be amongst nature" camping then this is probably not the place for you. Fortunately I went to go white water rafting with the FOR group and it met my expectations, especially considering I had read previous Yelp reviews for Camp Lotus. I set up under a big ol tree next to the teepee which put me 20 feet from the rivers edge. The store is pretty well stocked in case you forgot something. The bathrooms (men's) had a bad seal on one toilet so the commode area smelled of pee but considering how clean everything else was I suspect it will be fixed soon. The showers were clean and had hot H2O and I never had to wait in line to use one...WINNING! Additionally the store has a patio area that has AC to charge your cell which BTW Verizon and Sprint get reception at the camp. The camp area itself was covered in grass so it didn't feel like I was camping in the desert as was the case in many I have been to around the Shasta area. More WINNING! So if you want a good place to drop anchor while you go white water rafting on the South Fork of the American River then I recommend Camp Lotus. If you want to get away from humans and feel like you are truly "roughing it" then continue looking. read more

These are the things I dislike about Lotus. It is pricey for day use ($4 per person) car fees ($4 per car) and camping ($12 on the weekends) Even if you have a camp on Friday night and have guests come up to stay on a Saturday night and arrive before 2 pm, they charge a day use fee. Not cool . Plus with the commercial companies who have set up a summer home there, the place is really crowded on the weekends. Finally, I wish they would fix the volleyball court. It's awefull. But, I do love the close river access and easy launch area for rafts. Their little store gets you most of the things you need, especially good morning coffee and sweets. The bathrooms, showers and campground are kept clean. Good size campsites with water, recycling and garbage cans close by. Lots of big shade trees as well but watch out for the briar bushes. They are everywhere. This place is well managed. The staff is attentive and personable. Been camping for rafting and kayaking trips here for years and plan more trips in the future. read more

You won't find a better campground in the area. The staff keeps the place detailed, clean, and green. The campsites are lush and scenic, a welcome change from some of the other dustbowl campgrounds in lotus/coloma. The tipi site has one of the prettiest views and is tucked into a romantic nook at the edge of the campground. The camp lotus store is another gem. they have a deli and the breakfast sandwiches and all of the fresh baked cookies and muffins are amazing! My favorites are the pecan bars and the pumpkin cream cheese muffins when they are available. this is a lovely campground and you can tell how much work goes into keeping the place amazing! read more

Stayed here last weekend while taking a whitewater paddling class. This place is OK, but not fabulous. It's located right on the South Fork of the American River, which is great for rafting/paddling (the only reason people seem to come here). The one employee we interacted with was sweet to us, though I could see her being a bit of a hardass if you weren't super polite and well-behaved. Bathrooms were clean and free showers after a day on the river were awesome, though they were more warm than hot. Campsites are grassy and each has a picnic table and fire pit. The not-so-great stuff: The campsites are right on top of each other, with no privacy, and they're not cheap. $11/person with a minimum of $33 a night for a private site -- ouch! The overflow area was not available when we were there. If you get there after the office is closed, it can be really confusing figuring out which sites are available and how to self-register. This is a VERY popular area for rafters and kayakers, so expect big, rambunctious groups and a real challenge finding parking. We were here in early April, so it wasn't full, but I would NOT go on a peak summer weekend. It could become zoo-like really fast. They seem pretty motivated to keep noise levels down, but the place isn't that big, so sound carries really easily (and the road is right there). read more

We stayed here to go white water rafting last weekend. When we got there the campsite its self was pretty nice. Secluded from other campsites. There was a picnic table and a little fire, but there was enough room for a few tents. Bathrooms were okay and showers available which were nice. Quiet time was strictly enforced at 10pm. And we were approached about 3 times that night and twice the next morning. We were laughing too loud and were warned that we would get kicked out the next night if we didn't quiet down. The following night we made sure to keep our "inside voices". The best part about camping in my opinion is being able to chit chat around the fire at night and we were unable to do this. Their service is horrible and rude. The employees including the owner were extremely rude. Didn't care to listen but only reprimanded. The campsites are overcrowded with cars. The price for the campsite was pretty steep. $11 a person and a minimum of $33 - not worth the money. We will not be going there again and definitely not be recommending this campsite to anyone. There are many more campsites around that area that have more space and for a much more reasonable price. read more

I love Camp Lotus, we come here every year as a family. It has great campsites with firepits and water access. Very close to the beautiful river, friendly staff, small convenient store and clean bathrooms. Only thing is that it can get pricey but hey, it's worth it. TIP: be sure to make reservations ahead of time especially over weekends in the summer, they will ask you to pay half the price as a deposit. read more

With the exception of Margaret (she's still a sweet, adorable, little pit-bull) the employees are grumpy. This place isn't what it used to be. I used to pull into camp about 10:00 am Sat. morning to set up my tent in the overflow area and then head out to Marshall Gold for some kayaking. No big deal. Get back to camp about seven and there's everything waiting for me to crash. Next morning pack it up and head out for another day on the river. We took some newby friends up rafting. Got charged "day use fees" ($2 X 7 people) for setting up our tent at noon before we put on the river off site. Got back the camp about 8:00pm to the neighbors cranking the c-rap music. No one was in the store to complain to or buy ice cream for our 5 Y.O. Quiet hours are 10pm to 8am the rest of the time it was listening to the neighbor lady bitchin' at her kids and shit-hop. Next time my wife wants to stay at the comfort inn where you don't have to put up with the noise and you get your own clean bathroom plus the free breakfast. read more

A lot of goose poop at this campsite! However...if you can get over the goose poop, feathers and cottonwood tree fluff everywhere it's a nice campground. Can you tell I'm new at this camping thing? probably. The amenities are very clean and the kids who work there are helpful and nice. One delivered firewood and a BBQ to my site in 10 minutes flat! The rafting rif raf really wasn't and it was pretty quiet at night. Overall a good camping experience! read more

Lovely place for summer camp It was our 6th year coming here with my young children. It is heavenly. Very safe, clean bathrooms and family shower. It is a small family owned with personal attention. They also have a small market for your basic needs. It is truly a five star vacation place with little money. You need a advance revs. read more

I just stayed at Camp Lotus on Wednesday and Thursday night of this week. The amenities were satisfactory, with a well stocked mini store, well located clean restrooms, and showers that had an endless supply of hot water. We used the camp as our home base to run the rapids for two days, Chilibar to Salmon Falls. The camp was ideal this purpose. There are some local sightseeing/historical locations nearby as well so for a long weekend there is something for all. The camp is used by many of the river companies and youth groups so the turnover nightly is to be expected. There are a lot of "camping newbies" so don't be surprised with people keeping their headlights on or walking through your sites from time to time. That being said, a little outdoor coaching is well received. read more

we camped this past weekend at camp lotus and during our trip. things started ok until we noticed that the workers at camp lotus started moving another camper's tents to another location. a few minutes later, the campers came back to find their stuff being moved without any kind of notice other than 'hey we're moving your stuff'. this is what you get when you have untrained teens working i guess....? very unprofessional. obviously the campers were upset as anyone should be if someone just tells you 'we're moving your stuff' and without permission, begins to do so. i mean, these campers were settled IN! they were the first group there and they were a group of about 14 so they had a lot of stuff. you can imagine how pissed they were. they were told that the area they were in was not part of the group that they booked through and since all the other campers had also settled in by now, the 14 campers were crammed in between other campers. my group felt bad for them so we decided to move our stuff around to make a larger space for them and helped them move to this larger area. all was fine again until nightfall. as it grew darker, we all wanted to build a fire. when i say 'we' i mean our group along with a couple other campers in the same area. we were told that the fire pit that was already in place was the only communal fire pit we could use and we could not build our own. we saw that one group was hogging the fire pit as if it was theirs to use only so we headed up to the camp lotus office to ask if the fire pit was communal. my friend, who had never spoken to the workers, asked if the fire pits were for communal use. the workers were the same teenagers as before and with great attitude said "you cannot build an illegal fire!!!" ummm, ok. we were not trying to nor was that our question. we asked if we could use the communal fire pit that was already there. the teenaged girl responded with attitude again saying that we can only use what is there and again said we could not build an illegal fire. no one is trying to do that but ok. we asked her if one of them could come with us to let the other campers know that the fire pit was for everyone to use. she said that she could not and that it was not their problem. seeing as they were of no help, we headed back to the camp site and talked to the other campers and eventually worked it out so all of us could use the communal fire pit that was already there before any of us arrived. as soon as we got the fire going, the two teenaged girls came running over yelling "we told you not to build an illegal fire!!!!" confused, we looked at them wondering what they were talking about. we calmly told them that the fire pit was here before any of us arrived, we did NOT build it ourselves. she refused to listen and with a trembling voice said that it's illegal and we could not have the fire and threatened the entire group saying they'd call the police and fire marshall if we did not put it out. again, we tried to explain that we did not make the damn fire pit. it was there, just like the other communal pit down the way that was already burning. of course, she did not say anything to them and said ours was the only illegal one. instead of arguing with them, we told them to go ahead and put it out and also asked them to refund the other group since they were now not able to use the firewood that THEY sold them. they were very stupid to sell firewood if you can't even build a fire! this was one of the WORST customer service experiences ever. the way that these teens handled every situation is beyond unacceptable and unprofessional. they need A LOT of training and better communication skills. i get that maybe you are saving money by hiring teens but come on, invest a bit of time and train them well! read more

I went to Camp Lotus this past weekend and we stayed in the Yuba cabin. It was in a great location and has beautiful scenery. But I can't say that I was happy with my stay here. A group of friends and I came to the Yuba cabin for my 25th birthday. We are not a loud nor rowdy group of people. We were just going to enjoy the outdoors and the river. After paying $220 a night I felt like the owners were watching us the entire time and treating us like little kids. The Yuba is right next door to the office/store so we weren't trying to be sneaky or anything. The owner confronted us because a friend decided to stop by during the day and said the cabin couldn't fit that many people. We were hardly in the cabin. this cabin was not small & we weren't planning on staying during the day either. I can honestly say I would not want to stay here again. They did not make it a relaxing experience. Maybe if we would have camped it would have been better, but I do not see myself coming back here again. read more

Camp Lotus is a family friendly wonderful privately run campground on the American River. We actually had our wedding reception here 8 years ago and have been coming back for school and family trips (3 kids later!) for many years and the kids love running around in the grass, swimming, playing volleyball, and exploring the nature trails. Their pricing and service for weddings cannot be beat, and the location is gorgeous. We have stayed in the teepee and the lodging as well when our kids were smaller and both are unique, very clean, and comfortable. The muffins and sandwiches at the store are unexpectedly DELICIOUS and the prices for local beer, wine, clothes, etc there are great. It definitely gets crowded on the weekends in the summer but I have never been to a campground that doesn't! If you really want a peaceful few nights away from it all come during the week, in May or September, or stay in the lodging. If you want great river fun and lots of outdoor time with others to enjoy it with then come any time! The campsites are grassy and give you your own space - especially the tent sites. The RV sites with electrical, which you can also pitch tents in, are a little more open. The staff is very helpful when you call and want to figure out the right spot! We always come back to SF from Camp Lotus tan, tired, and happy. read more

Very nice facility. Rooms are little high for sharing a bathroom, but were very clean and camp is quiet and beautiful. We were there during the week and despite not liking the weed blowers in the morning, it is pretty quiet and they do not allow generators...I would recommend the stay. read more

We have just finished a long road trip from Los Angeles to Canada and back. We camped most nights up and back. We mostly stayed at state parks along the way and this is our first non-state park. I am guessing people do not come here to sit back and enjoy nature and the outdoors. We are surrounded by campers and most are loud and rowdy. Music is being blasted across the sites for all to hear. I'm sure the quiet hours will be enforced, but I don't leave my home and family to relax with these noises. Very disappointed. Also, they are about $15 more than a state park. This morning music started way before 8am and there is a constant flow of cars and people for rafting. Not the quiet, relaxing morning we expected. We were going to stay another night, but decided to drive the 7 hours home after rafting instead, it's that bad. Also, there is a terrible smell coming from the bushes by our tent, it smells like a rotting animal. Again, not at all what we were expecting. read more

The campsite and amenities were good; however, Bill was very rude to our group. He asked us to be quiet in the afternoon because we were listening to music, singing,and talking. When one of our camp mates said " We will try to be quiet. " Bill said " No you will not try to be quiet. You Will be quiet!!" A group of rafters put on by one of the rafting companies on the campsite were even louder than us, and were being encouraged to cheer on as a team building, but they were not talked to. We drove up 8 hours to the campsite because we thought we would have a good time, but our weekend was not very enjoyable after many incidents of this nature. surrounding camps had similar complaints. read more

It is a shame that I even had to give this place one star. My vote is for maybe a negative star. Our group just got back from spending the 4th of July holiday rafting on the American River for the fifth year in a row. First as mentioned by everyone else the parking situation was crazy but I expected that because it was a holiday weekend. The things that would really make me discourage anyone from staying here is the "quite time" policy which is from 10pm to 8am. Keep in mind that it doesn't get dark here in July until after 9pm. I saw them bust the group next to us for singing Kum by yah at 10:15 on the 4th of July. So unless you want to go to bed at 10pm I would not plan on staying here . The one group of people that I would suggest this camp is people that go to bed very early. The other negative point of this campground are the bathroom facilities. While we were there the showers were not working and there was only a couple of functioning toilets. Overall, I would recommend using one of the other many good camp sites in the area. read more

Picked this place because it is the launch area for Sierra Whitewater Rafting, who are awesome by the way. We brought an RV so being able to walk to our rafting meeting area was very convenient. Check-in was easy and the owner lady was very helpful. The campground itself is very clean and nice. Everything is green and well maintained. Bathrooms are your typical campsite bathrooms and they offer both private and gym style showers. I will be staying there again when we hit the middle fork for sure. read more

As stated by Erik N. on August 2010, this campsite isn't meant for true campers that love to get away from the everyday and enjoy being in the outdoors with good food, good music, and good company. It felt like being in a dormitory with strict rules on noise and quiet time. Once the ones managing the campsite (aka Bill) has a disfavor for you and your group for what ever reason, they will make the rest of your experience there even more uneventful. Overall the campsite looks nice, restrooms and showers were nice, and the closeness of the river was very nice, but having a campsite that is 20 feet next to other campsites doesn't make it a true wilderness experience. Friendly staff and the best american river camping if you dont mind people having fun I had the "farthest" campsite from the river and it was a 150 foot walk! well worth the drive! read more
