There is no zero stars so I had to put 1 star for this review. Very disappointed about bringing my dog to this place..first off I walked in and the manager/lady at the desk had no personality and was not very helpful. Felt weird from moment we walked in. And no I am not just leaving a review because my 3 yr old boston got kicked out from there within 2 to 3 hrs when he has been going to daycare since he was a puppy. Saying my dog was nipping, but ok!! I think this place needs to introduce new dogs maybe one by one..and actually give new dogs a chance. You can respond back to this review as well and say your dog was too much and blah blah..I really can care less. My dog has been going to daycare for 3 yrs and this place was a new place. But the lady at front desk really needs some people skills for sure. Wellll...blah blah...your dog is this blah blah...made us pay $ 30 dollars for a meet and greet while he got kicked out. Also I like to add that we talked about my dog being hyper. So maybe this place needs more skilled employees. So happy this place did not work out since there is no outdoor area for them to play and only pee indoors. Which seems odd but OK camp away!! read more

We took our dog here for a test visit to see if he'd be ok boarding - he failed, as he has too much separation anxiety. I totally get that, and know he's a little scared. However, the staff had a "whatever" attitude and told us to socialize him better (he is a well socialized dog aside from his separation anxiety, not aggressive and very calm usually) and to try again in 90 days. My only question, is how are we supposed to socialize him to be left in places with other dogs, without doing it little by little? The fact that they didn't offer any alternatives (I.e., have him come once or twice a week starting at 30 mins, then 1 hour, building it up), and just said we're shit out of luck (not verbatim) and to do better with our dog, lost them probably over $1,000 that we could and would've paid for boarding over the year. Do NOT recommend at all. read more

Apollo LOVES Camp Ruff It and so do I! I purchased 30 full days of daycare package, and I am thrilled! The staff greets Apollo by name, and Apollo runs up to them for pets. I can see how excited he is when he is there and how exhausted he is after hours of playing with other dogs. The staff are friendly and helpful. Dropping off often only takes a minute (or less) which is great since I drop him off on my way to work. I always recommend them to other pet parents! read more

I will start out by saying that my experiences with the staff have been wonderful, in no way do I blame them for this review. I have been taking my 4 year old hound mix there for a few years now. He goes every once in awhile for a day or an occasional overnight. I even took him there for a couple of days this past winter during a severe cold snap so he would not have to go outside. The convenience for me has been wonderful and they could typically accommodate me last minute except during popular vacation times and/or holidays. Fast forward to this week. I adopted a boxer mix puppy recently and took him for a "meet and greet" where the staff would assess his overall demeanor to determine if he would be a welcome visitor. The plan was for him to stay a few hours and play once he got through the assessment. One hour later I received a phone call from one of the staff members. She was so apologetic, but I was told I would have to come back and pick up my pup. Apparently in the assessment process, several staffers that met my pup felt that he probably had some pit bull in him. He was an adorable, sweet, great tempered pup but the owners had rules banning pits (which is not actually a breed) and a few other breeds. Insurance reasons I was told. I find this unlikely since other facilities take dogs based upon temperament, not breed. And many of those well-mannered, sweet pups have pit bull in their blood. Not to mention Doberman, German Shepherd, Rottweiler or Mastiff. Oh my, The horror! From reading many of the other reviews on Camp Ruff It, ownership rather than the staff is the issue most often it seems. I 100% agree. To claim to love and care about dogs but to have such narrow-minded, ignorant policies is shameful. Clearly it's not about the dogs. Sue and Ted, open your eyes, educate yourselves and conduct your business properly to serve those whom you claim to care so much about. Shame on you. Camp Ruff It - I'm not allowed at Camp Ruff It :( - Pet Boarding Near Me - Carol Stream, Illinois

Simply put...never again. I brought my 13 month old puppy here as a back-up to his regular day care. His regular day care requires a reservation and I was happy that Camp Ruff It didn't require one in advance. Things come up, so it was nice to have the option of dropping my puppy off to play instead of leaving him locked up in his crate. My dog is very friendly and loves all dogs and humans. He really just wants to be friends with everyone. He is also very active and can run around for hours. My guy has always loved day care. He whines in excitement because he can't wait to get out of the car when we pull up. He has always come home happy and tired. We have never had any issues. When I brought my dog for his trial, he was excited as always. Obviously, he was in a new place so he spent some time sniffing the lobby out. I let the person at the front know that he is very active and suggested that he go in an active group. I watched the monitor in the lobby and noticed most dogs in the "play area" laying around. That was the play area they put my dog in for his first day. I know for certain because I watched him enter the play area on the monitor. I watched for about 10 minutes and my dog ran around with his tail wagging saying "hello" to all the other dogs inside the play area. I left feeling like this was going to be a good thing. When I picked up my dog, I was told by the same person at the front that my dog is extremely anxious and kept trying to break out of the play area. I was also told "Your dog doesn't know when to stop. He had to be taken out of the play area to rest." Basically, my dog was being nosy and actively running around. Admittedly, that is my interpretation of how he acted, but knowing my boy, that's what he was doing. The worker did admit my dog was taken out of the normal play area so I did wonder how long he was in an enclosure alone. I was never offered any further explanation about his behavior or advice on how to improve the situation, but according to the person at the front desk he was allowed to come back. Quite frankly, the person was dismissive. At that point I should've known, but thought maybe I was misunderstanding the situation. Another red flag should have been the fact my boy was acting a little sad when arriving home. He didn't even want to eat his dinner. Food is literally his favorite thing in the whole world. I an unexpected situation with my daughter and my family needed to be gone from home more than a few hours so I dropped my guy off late morning. No one welcomed us or even acted excited to see my dog. I almost had to argue with the person at the front desk over payment. I was willing to pay for the full day but the person at the desk was arguing with me over the hours I would have to leave my dog. Apparently it was some major inconvenience to leave him there for more than 4 hours when I dropped him off at 11am. Honestly, I should have taken him with me and left but I didn't want him staying at home alone. At pick up, I was told again my dog is extremely anxious. No further explanation or offer on ways to help him. I also saw my dog was not in the play area when I picked him up. He was clearly put in a different area. Camp Ruff It claims some dogs are separated from the play area to have an easy transition out, but this Camp Ruff It place had no idea when I was coming to pick him up. I actually believe I spent $30 for my guy to sit alone in a cage. After giving me his leash, the employee disappeared into the back again before I could ask any questions. Camp Ruff It claims to know dogs and cater to all but apparently cannot offer any advice on how to help my "anxious" guy. He came home in a sad mood again which made me worried. I was distressed after this last pick up I called my normal doggy daycare practically in tears. His regular teacher was appalled by the assessment and agreed my guy has never been anything but "happy go lucky." They know he is active and they have put him in a group of dogs that all get along and run around all crazy together. Even after the reassurance, I dropped him off at his normal doggy daycare later in the week to play, still a little worried that maybe something was wrong with my guy. He took off running toward his teacher and was so excited his whole backside was shaking because his tail was wagging so fast. I honestly believe Camp Ruff It does not know how to handle any dogs at all, especially active breeds. Judging by the activity of the dogs I saw on the monitor in the lobby, I think owners should save their money and keep the dogs at home. They're laying around on the floor napping and not socializing. The whole point of doggy daycare is for the pups to play and have fun. My dog can lay around at home for free. And if you think maybe this place would be good so your doggo can at least go outside to the bathroom...he/she won't. One of the workers admitted the dogs just go on the floor in the play area. read more

I would never go here again. I purchased a package deal and after two visits they said my dog was no longer welcome. They would not give a reason why. Seriously. I tried talking to Susan the owner and she refused to take my calls. I have a yorkie and she is very well behaved. To make matters worse they wouldn't refund the money of the package which was quite expensive. I also noticed that the female manager treats the young kids that work there very poorly which made me dislike the place even more. The reason I picked this place is because it is very close to work and convenient for me to drop off my dog. I WOULD NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. We are first-time dog owners. This place has been amazing for us. We bring our dog from time to time for a full day visit, and we've also boarded her for a couple week-long stretches. She gets excited every time we pull in the lot and we know that she is treated incredibly well. This past summer, right around the 4th of July, we had a family member suffer a medical emergency and was hospitalized for an extended period. As much as we wanted to help watch their dog, we just couldn't accommodate him at our house. Camp Ruff It worked with us to get him boarded for almost ten days even though we had no reservation. They treated him so well and we are grateful to all of the staff there for helping us when we needed it. We can't imagine sending our dog to any other place. read more

We love Camp Ruff It and take our dog there often so she can run out some extra energy!! My dog knows the words "puppy camp" and she is always super excited when I tell her where we are going. We also use them for boarding. I interviewed a lot of stinky dog kennels before I decided on them. They were the only place in the area that I felt comfortable leaving my pup. She gets to run and play all day and at night has a puppy slumber party and can sleep on a bed or couch. Awesome place and I would highly recommend them!! read more

Please pay attention to the negative reviews. This place is suspect. I took my dog here for day care. They told me when I came to pick him up that he had shown aggression to another dog. We have had our sweet boy for 4 years, during which time he has gone to several dog parks as well as two other doggie daycares. He has always been a very sweet, gentle and easy going dog. I love this place! I have taken my goldendoodle here twice and I plan on doing it again soon. I liked that when I went for a tour just to check it out they let me go back and see where the dogs play ect. The women was very knowledgeable and I know this may sound silly but she knew all of the dogs names that where, I don't know, I guess it put me at ease that she treated them like family. When Bailey comes home she is so tired I know she had a fun time plus they always give us a picture of her playing ect when we pick her up. I recommend Camp Ruff It to anyone! read more

Don't go to this place. The owners are so shady. I have a Labrador that I've taken there for years but the place is going down hill. I prepaid for the package because that's how I've always done it. Anyways one day Lexi came home WITH A GIANT GASH ON HER NOSE. I called them immediately and a manager Darlene, who was incredibly rude, told me the owner would call me back. Well two days later I still hadn't heard from them so I called again. I finally got to talk to Ted who seemed nice initially but let me tell you he's a peach. He said that I was making all this stuff up and there was no way he would let a dog get hurt. Well I took a bunch of pictures of Lexi's nose and told them that she came back like this. He claimed that the dog must have been hurt elsewhere and I was a slimball trying to "extort" him. OH BY THE WAY, I asked to see the cameras from that day Lexi got hurt, since there are cameras everywhere and he told me that they don't record so there's nothing to see. SERIOUSLY. My dog is okay, I took her to the vet and got it all squared away. All I wanted from the lovely Ted was to get my unused days refunded. He told me no and that I needed to leave or he would call the cops. He is a thief and I can't believe he would do this to a customer who has been going there for years. Don't go here. The owner Ted called me and went on and on how he refused to pay for my vet visit (which I NEVER asked him to) and how I was just trying to get my dogs vet visit paid for...seriously?! We have a three year old lab with boundless energy. Day camp during the work week has been a must for her, especially during winter. We also board her between maybe 4-6 times a year for short periods of time. Although we've lived in Wheaton for a couple of years now we were still taking her to Naperville for boarding and day camp...that is until we discovered Camp Ruff It. We were happy with our old place but Camp Ruff It far exceeded our expectations in many many ways. Here's why we love it so much: 1. Initial screening: All dogs have to go through an intake process to make sure they play well with others. When we picked Daisy up after her initial session we received a detailed evaluation that was thoroughly filled out which gave me confidence that they really are evaluating new dogs to make sure it's a good fit. 2. Kennel free boarding: I love love love knowing that Daisy is not in a small kennel overnight when we do have to be away. They have a huge room with coaches, cots and beds so that the dogs can be as comfy as they would be at home. They have an overnight attendant each time to make sure every dog is safe, etc. 3. Staff is unbelievable and clearly care about the dogs in their care. 4. They are very very good about ensuring the dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations and shots. 5. They offer the option to pre-pay for sessions by purchasing a pass. Makes drop off and pick up so much faster for us! 6. They have never turned us away, even when we decide Daisy needs a day there last minute. Our previous place had a much smaller capacity so we ran into this problem a lot. 7. Great hours for drop off and pick up! 8. They very kindly are willing to bring Daisy outside for me when my baby is with me in the car. It's pretty tough carrying him while trying to handle a very excited pup and I appreciate this so very much! I honesty can't say a single negative thin about my experience there! Camp Ruff It is the best. We have been taking our dog Indy here for nearly two years for both daycare and boarding and have never had a negative experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and we know they absolutely love Indy. I always feel safe and confident dropping Indy off for daycare or boarding knowing that he's in great hands - what a great feeling! They are totally cage/crate free, which is perfect for Indy, and even though they take care of a lot of dogs they do an excellent job monitoring their behavior. At other kennels, Indy has come home with cuts or bite marks from aggressive dogs but NEVER at Camp Ruff It. Their prices are competitive and fair for the area and buying passes gets you a discount. If we can find a daycare place for our new baby due in February that makes us feel as comfortable as Camp Ruff It does for our dog, we'll be in heaven. Thank you so much, Camp Ruff It! read more

We have now used Camp Ruff It three times while on vacation. This last one was form nine nights. We were a little concerned about the length of time. That ended when we arrived. The young lady that greeted us said, "I remember Charlie." Our dog took off running from me right to her. I picked our dog up today and all was good. He is sleeping right now and I think that comes from playing with all the other dogs. I would recommend Camp Ruff It to anyone who does not want their pet stuck in a kennel. My review is based only on the screening process, as we were told that our dog could not be boarded there because he plays too rough. We have a 10 1/2 month old Beagle mix. I will be the first to admit he is HYPER and he LOVES other dogs. So while I was a little surprised about him playing too rough, I guess I can see that. I would just like to have seen him in action to see what "too rough" was, as he was in a "time out" when I came to pick him up. The place looked clean, the guy that we met first seemed really nice and knowledgeable and was trained by the same woman who did our puppy training (who I LOVED), so I felt more comfortable. I thought this would be a great place for our little guy so that he wouldn't miss us terribly when we went on trips. We were asked to bring proof of vaccinations, which makes sense, but we didn't get those back. I assumed they would make a copy and give them back to us the same way that everyone else who has asked us for records has done, so now we have to make a trip and get them back. Fine, my fault for not asking at the time, but I just assumed it was standard practice. The girl who was there when I picked our dog up was NOT as nice as the guy who we dropped him off with. When I came to get him, the first words out of her mouth were a very judgmental "Did you know he's a poop-eater?" First, this is a common issue in dogs, don't make it out like my dog is some one-of-a-kind disgusting criminal. Second, yes, we did very much know, that's why we were very specific in TELLING YOU that when we dropped him off. We were assured it's a common problem and that they board other dogs with the same issue and they look out for it. The woman went and got our dog and gave him back to me and seemed to be ready to go back on her way. I asked her how the test went, what the decision was and she said he could do day-care, but not boarding because he plays too rough. I'm not sure the difference between the two if playing is the issue (night is the only difference and wouldn't the dogs play more during the day than at night?), but she was so short with every question I had, I just took my baby and got the heck out of there. Fast forward several hours to the next day, our dog has really bad diarrhea. We had to take him to the vet and found out he had a parasite called Giardia. Very specifically, this affects mostly puppies from eating poop of other infected animals. I will be fair, I can't fault CRI if another family had a sick dog and didn't know it, or didn't disclose it, or the dog didn't show symptoms, but our dog has eaten his fair share of his own poop, goose poop, dog poop, and never gotten a parasite. For my own peace of mind, I'm chalking this up to luck of the draw, as I would like to hope that they don't board sick dogs regularly. I'm just very disappointed as I had very high hopes for this place and thought a kennel free-boarding place would be WONDERFUL for our energetic little pup, but it turns out that it wasn't a fit and I'm a little relieved that we can't leave him there for longer than 4 hours... read more

The place is selective of what dogs they accept to keep them safe and free or being a liability. My dog is huge and was jumping their fences, so he failed the evaluation and therefore couldn't attend. Nonetheless, they were honest and professional about what happened and kept him safe until I could pick him up. The guy was compassionate and regretful, even though he didn't have to be because he no longer could earn my business. I had a tour and it's clean and cameras show all areas from the lobby. It's cage free and boarded dogs lounge freely on couches, staff spend the night on beds and the dogs can relax together as a pack with human companionship instead of the stresses of a kennel. Shame our dog was too active and jumping their fences, but I still had a good impression of the place overall--- and that is a compliment because I am picky. read more

We've tried this place with mixed results. I love the idea of it --- cage-free boarding & someone playing with & attending to our dog 24/7 when we can't have them with us. A litle disappointed to find that our dog was segregated from the others having a "nap" when we arrived to pick her up instead of finding her bouncing around, interacting with the other dogs.
