Following my initial review, I took Tom up on an offer to have Prairie Path Pet Care pet sit for me when I went out of town recently for the holiday. The process was comprehensive and through: I filled out a multiple-page Google Doc (one for each pet), and then Tom came to my home. While he was there, most of the time was spent entering the information on the Google Doc into the Pet Check Technology database. I never met my pet sitter, Jennifer, but apparently Tom came with her on the first visit and got her acquainted with my pets (my cat and parrot) and the locations of their food. I received emails when Jennifer arrived and left for each visit. Each email detailed her notes, the duration of her visit, and she included pictures of my fur/feather babies. She followed my instructions on feeding, medications, made sure she gave my pets love and attention, and regularly cleaned the litter box. She even left me a note that she cleaned my parrot's cage -- which, at first, made me very nervous since her cage needs to be opened in order to do so (the grate prohibits the tray from sliding out), but her note mentioned that she had had a parrot as well, so it was familiar territory. The price was affordable -- actually, $2 cheaper per visit than another pet service I used -- and an additional $10 for visits on holidays. Credit card information is kept on file, and itemized statements come via email on Mondays. One thing I wasn't thrilled about was that I had no direct way to contact my pet sitter (she later provided her phone number in a message since she had a concern with my cat). Additionally, I felt that the time I spent with Tom was focused primarily on his transferring the information from the Google Doc into the Pet Check database. (I only needed to clarify 1 or 2 things.) IMO most could have been completed prior to his arrival. I was also a little disappointed that he didn't really interact with my pets at all; by contrast, the other pet sitting company I used REALLY took the time to engage with my pets and got to know them during the initial interview. And with them, I met both the owner and my pet sitter. Still, it was a good experience overall, and I would use Prairie Path Pet Care in the future: Jennifer was great! Thank you! Update: Tom called to follow up on my trip and the pet sitting service. That was very thoughtful and appreciated!

Donna is amazing. She made me feel so comfortable from the moment we spoke on the phone to the moment I left with my fresh pups. I have two mini long haired dachshunds who are only a year and a half old. This was their first time being groomed. They are skittish of new people but Donna did her best to make them feel comfortable. She offered for me to stay but I wanted my dogs to trust her so I left and she texted me updates throughout the process. She made sure they were perfect and ready to come home at the time of pickup. I drove 30 minutes just to see her based on reviews and our phone conversation beforehand. I'll be using her from now on! So happy!

Dogs needed a haircut badly, but couldn't get in with their usual groomer for over a month, so we took a chance here. Absolutely never again. Please do not waste your time or money with this business. They're both anxious dogs about grooming, but a family member stayed with them the entire time to hold them, and they'd been given medicine to help sedate them beforehand as well. Not that it mattered, when so little was done for their comfort. Any genuine, caring professional would take their time with particularly anxious animals, and do what they can to make them feel comfortable and less stressed about the situation they're in. You're a stranger, in a strange and stressful environment -- you should allow them to feel safe. Instead, both dogs were in and out in under an hour, meaning they were rushed, no time was taken for them to adjust, adding onto the stress they were already feeling. They were not given baths. Their nails were not trimmed. And their hair wasn't even fully cut. One still had most of the fur around her legs and paws, the other's head was left untouched, and they were patchy and uneven all over. Looking at the one straight-on, it looks like her whole face is crooked from how it was cut. I understand they were anxious, but maybe don't rush, and use more care and caution. They've never come out so absolutely terrible before. Some unevenness here and there, but still looking proper and healthy. Not absolutely mangled. On top of that, things like leaving their paws untrimmed is a hazard for them. It leads to splaying of the pads of their feet, and can make it difficult to walk on smooth-floors (hardwood, tile, etc.). Same with the nails -- I will have to bring them in somewhere else to have them safely trimmed, because it can be damaging if they aren't kept up with. I don't think they actually know how to care for or groom animals. They just gave someone a pair of clippers and let them go at it. Do not waste your money here. Do not support this business. Looking at other reviews, I'm thankful a family member was there the whole time, because it's likely they would've suffered far more abuse and distress had no one been watching. It's absolutely sick. Stop offering this service until you can do it safely, properly, and ethically, from someone trained and who actually cares about animals.

The convenient Wheaton location of the facility is great for daycare and they also allow for half-day daycare too. Very flexible scheduling. When I pick my dog up, I can tell that she's received personalized attention from the staff and that she has been well cared for. Often she's been able to work one-on-one with a staff member for nearly all of her half-day session. We also attend the group classes which are incredibly unique and let my dog build up practice interacting with other dogs in a way that reinforce new, good behaviors. My neighbors are thrilled with the progress almost as much as I am - my dog no longer automatically barks at everyone outside now and is able to make new friends. The in home training we did originally was incredibly valuable to get us started on the right foot. We need to do that again very soon! Is it the least expensive daycare and/or training in the area? No. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. When I leave my dog in the care of The Canine's Voice I know that she's going to be safe, loved, and will learn a few things while she's there. The classes are incredibly valuable too. The results speak for themselves.

But Robin made friends with him and he even let her pet him which is rare. If my cat trusts someone, I trust them too. He has great instincts. Every day Robin would send me a picture of my cat and tell me how he is doing. When we were back from vacation, I found a log that Robin left me with all the details of what was done and how my cat behaved. This was a great experience and I really appreciate the fact that I could just relax and not be worried about my precious little furry friend.

I have used this pet sitting service for at least 10 years. At first, they were excellent. However,…read morein recent years, the quality of the sitters has gone downhill, Robin is not available in emergencies, and she's hands off, in terms of communication with clients, and helping her staff. Even though she lives one town over from us, she does not help sitters, when my dog is injured or monitor what the sitters do or don't do. First, there was one sitter who decided to turn on all of our decorative under & over cabinet kitchen lights (hot lights that were not to code, and we did not leave them on or use them) while we were out of the country --costing us $1500 in changing out the lighting since Robin's response was she could not go over to turn off the lighting but she'd have another sitter do it the next day. I truly worried my house would be set on fire. Kitchen deco lights were turned off and same sitter put on the decorative over the fp hot lighting instead as a "pretty night light." I had to ask once again, stop using lighting that is not left on, not labelled to turn on, and not in our notes to use. The sitter lacked practical knowledge of light bulbs. Then, another 7 one-week situations, where we left town, and no one communicated that our two dogs were jumping the 2 foot gate and going upstairs daily and using the upstairs puppy pads multiple times a day. Instead sitters kept that info largely to themselves (maybe mentioned 2x in notes) and one dog started getting lame, with a limp, which incurred over $2000 of vet visits, chiropractic, and laser treatments on his back legs after the trips. I kept thinking why is Sammy fine while we're here, and yet, gets hurt, every time we hire Robin's sitters? I asked Robin, don't your sitters think they should convey this info to me, or tell you, or confer with each other re why there are all these visits upstairs every day by the dogs (to a litter box, so there would be proof and they were cleaning upstairs), which mean a pet is jumping over a 2 foot gate, multiple times a day and how that may contribute to the limp my dog has? I have in the notes to sitters that the dogs should stay downstairs and there are multiple house signs saying that. Robin's response-- you need to find a different way to gate off the dogs, and test it out yourself. My sitters are not responsible for your gate arrangement for your dogs. I'm sorry but my dogs do different things when I'm home or even at work than what they do with us gone for a week. They've never tried to go upstairs when gated off, with us in town. It's just practical for the sitters to question how they're getting upstairs, and move the gate, if it's not effective or remove it all together to prevent further injury to the dogs. The last issue was this past month, my co2/fire alarm upstairs (a Kidde 10 year battery, expiration of 2029) went off, and was broken by a sitter because "she did not want the alarm to frighten the dogs." No one contacted the fire dept. or me or my husband (we were out of the country). I was texted the event 3 hrs after it occurred like it was nothing in particular by Robin, because the sitter "does not text" and Robin was too busy to answer the sitter's call. When I called Robin and insisted someone come back immediately, and gave them a list to check, the gas stove was found left on. Maybe not the source of the alarm, but still--it shows no one checked the safety of the house. Also, Robin showed zero concern and was not willing to call the fire dept for a check on our home, when I called her. She said that the sitter's husband is a fireman and he told his wife that alarms go bad all the time. She had no sense of urgency re my home and dog's safety. Well, my husband is a surgical nurse, so that's a nonsensical response. Once again, Robin cannot show up, and she does not train her sitters. When I returned, in complete frustration, i brought up the history of her inability to step in when something is a home fire risk or a dog injury risk and assess the situation in a mature manner to oversee her sitters . Her response was essentially that I ask for too much and too much specific communication. So, I asked for my multiple sets of keys returned. I don't trust this agency anymore with the care and safety of my home or pets. The very most important things are not handled well, which are the health & safety of the pets, and safety of the home. My advice is to find someone who both gets 100% of your money and sits your pets. Having a "hands off" agency owner who does not do her job is just a waste of your money.
