Following my initial review, I took Tom up on an offer to have Prairie Path Pet Care pet sit for me when I went out of town recently for the holiday. The process was comprehensive and through: I filled out a multiple-page Google Doc (one for each pet), and then Tom came to my home. While he was there, most of the time was spent entering the information on the Google Doc into the Pet Check Technology database. I never met my pet sitter, Jennifer, but apparently Tom came with her on the first visit and got her acquainted with my pets (my cat and parrot) and the locations of their food. I received emails when Jennifer arrived and left for each visit. Each email detailed her notes, the duration of her visit, and she included pictures of my fur/feather babies. She followed my instructions on feeding, medications, made sure she gave my pets love and attention, and regularly cleaned the litter box. She even left me a note that she cleaned my parrot's cage -- which, at first, made me very nervous since her cage needs to be opened in order to do so (the grate prohibits the tray from sliding out), but her note mentioned that she had had a parrot as well, so it was familiar territory. The price was affordable -- actually, $2 cheaper per visit than another pet service I used -- and an additional $10 for visits on holidays. Credit card information is kept on file, and itemized statements come via email on Mondays. One thing I wasn't thrilled about was that I had no direct way to contact my pet sitter (she later provided her phone number in a message since she had a concern with my cat). Additionally, I felt that the time I spent with Tom was focused primarily on his transferring the information from the Google Doc into the Pet Check database. (I only needed to clarify 1 or 2 things.) IMO most could have been completed prior to his arrival. I was also a little disappointed that he didn't really interact with my pets at all; by contrast, the other pet sitting company I used REALLY took the time to engage with my pets and got to know them during the initial interview. And with them, I met both the owner and my pet sitter. Still, it was a good experience overall, and I would use Prairie Path Pet Care in the future: Jennifer was great! Thank you! The best part about my experience was the fact I was able to stay there and watch my dog be groomed. The place was FILTHY, the dremmel used on my dog's nails had hair all over it, the grooming loop had hair all over it. These should be cleaned and changed between pets. These were clearly well-used and rarely cleaned. The grooming table looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months, much less disinfected. Donna is a very nice lady, just the place is absolutely gross. As someone who has worked in grooming and pet care before, I'm never taking my pets there again, nor will I reccomend this to anyone. read more

I have two mini long haired dachshunds who are only a year and a half old. This was their first time being groomed. They are skittish of new people but Donna did her best to make them feel comfortable. She offered for me to stay but I wanted my dogs to trust her so I left and she texted me updates throughout the process. She made sure they were perfect and ready to come home at the time of pickup. Dogs needed a haircut badly, but couldn't get in with their usual groomer for over a month, so we took a chance here. Absolutely never again. Please do not waste your time or money with this business. They're both anxious dogs about grooming, but a family member stayed with them the entire time to hold them, and they'd been given medicine to help sedate them beforehand as well. Not that it mattered, when so little was done for their comfort. Any genuine, caring professional would take their time with particularly anxious animals, and do what they can to make them feel comfortable and less stressed about the situation they're in. You're a stranger, in a strange and stressful environment -- you should allow them to feel safe. Instead, both dogs were in and out in under an hour, meaning they were rushed, no time was taken for them to adjust, adding onto the stress they were already feeling. They were not given baths. Their nails were not trimmed. And their hair wasn't even fully cut. One still had most of the fur around her legs and paws, the other's head was left untouched, and they were patchy and uneven all over. Looking at the one straight-on, it looks like her whole face is crooked from how it was cut. I understand they were anxious, but maybe don't rush, and use more care and caution. They've never come out so absolutely terrible before. Some unevenness here and there, but still looking proper and healthy. Not absolutely mangled. On top of that, things like leaving their paws untrimmed is a hazard for them. It leads to splaying of the pads of their feet, and can make it difficult to walk on smooth-floors (hardwood, tile, etc.). Same with the nails -- I will have to bring them in somewhere else to have them safely trimmed, because it can be damaging if they aren't kept up with. I don't think they actually know how to care for or groom animals. They just gave someone a pair of clippers and let them go at it. Do not waste your money here. Do not support this business. Looking at other reviews, I'm thankful a family member was there the whole time, because it's likely they would've suffered far more abuse and distress had no one been watching. It's absolutely sick. Stop offering this service until you can do it safely, properly, and ethically, from someone trained and who actually cares about animals. read more

Geneva PPPC is Awesome! Moved here from out of state with 2 dogs who were accustomed to having us work from home. Since we now work out of home, a walker was a necessity. We have used PPPC for about 2 years. We've had a few different walkers but each has been great and our dogs love the daily visits, walk, pets and treats. It is the highlight of my work afternoon to see their pictures and get reports on the smorgasbord of sniffs they both enjoy on their walks. We've even used PPPC for some holiday time assistance and they were extremely accommodating. And our walkers do nice little extras too like bring in the Amazon delivery or roll the trash cans in on trash day. Jessie did such a careful and thorough intake, checking out the living/walking space and taking specific notes. My rescue pup was severely abused and neglected for several years, so he's extremely fearful and doesn't trust easily. From the first moment Brandon walked in, he was incredibly calm and patient in letting my dog approach first. By the end of that very first meet-and-greet with Brandon, they were both sitting calmly together on the couch (which speaks volumes!) -- and after every visit, Brandon leaves careful notes that document how they spent their time together. Prairie Path Pet Care was recommended to me through a local Facebook group, and I'm so grateful for that recommendation! We had previously used another service, who regularly sent different walkers (we had requested as much consistency as possible since our dog is fairly anxious around strangers) and even sent a walker to the wrong address, so they walked INTO our neighbor's unlocked house while they were home one day. Needless to say, we were a little nervous after our first experience. Prairie Path is AMAZING. They use an app to communicate with pet owners so that you can see exactly when they enter and leave your home, where they took your pet, post pictures, and include a note about how the visit went. Tom has been our walker, and he's always been excellent about communicating. If there are any issues or questions, he's contacted us immediately. He's super sweet to our dog, and I know she looks forward to seeing him every week. Prairie Path Pet Care has been great! I got my pup back in June and have been using their service since about August so just over 3 months now. At first we hired a person from our neighborhood which seemed like a good idea but you do have to factor in the fact that a neighborhood person is just one person. Prairie Path has back up walkers if something comes up and that is a huge advantage that I didn't even think about. At first I thought the daily e-mails were a little much but it is very comforting knowing exactly when your dog gets taken out. Tom is the manager I believe and he responds to my e-mails and calls right away every time. He is very professional and friendly.
