Service: 5 Facility: 5, Products: TBD…read more Our group of 5 came to try out making pottery during the Valentine's Day promotion, which is now sold out. Rakhi and her staff, including Maya and Karis, were fantastic. Our ability to follow directions and create the initial form varied among our group, and some had to restart from the beginning more than once. Maya was very patient with us and adjusted how much she assisted by each person's ability. Knowing we were first timers, the staff were very encouraging and helpful as we selected our shapes and attempted to create them. They also helped us personalize each piece with additional designs, and we're very excited to see how everything turns out. There are two parts to this class, creating a piece for baking and in a few weeks we'll return to paint and glaze the pieces so they're food safe. I think we're going to take a longer course the next time!

I attended a Valentine's Day event last month with The ATX Dog Mom Social Club at The Spinning…read moreWheel. There was confusion over pricing and timing. The event post noted one price and when we got to the event, we were told it would cost extra to glaze the bowl which was a necessary step make the clay piece food-safe. We were making dog bowls so of course we wanted them to be food-safe but it was a bummer that we would have to pay an additional fee on top of what we had already paid. I was charged more than others in my group! We were instructed to make our bowls outside on the picnic tables which weren't flat surfaces. The event poster also stated that we could shape our clay by hand or use the spinning wheel. The spinning wheels weren't even offered to us. Overall, I attended this event to make new friends and create something nice for my dog. I accomplished both so that was a win! While I most likely won't come back, this business is a fun concept that is great for groups of young children and I even saw a mother bring in her young daughter with her to glaze pottery together which was so sweet but the pricing and timing to pick up your artwork could be clearer. Also parking is very limited so park next door at the gymnasium.

I had a great experience today at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA. I was a member about 10 years ago…read moreafter having significant surgery but once I went back to work, I gave it up. Today, at the reception desk, there was a woman by the name of Amy, she was delightful, and although I had a boatload of paperwork to do, she was very helpful and answered all my questions. She then walked me over and showed me how to sign in electronically with my new membership card, (which I was so grateful as now I will know how to do it without addl. assistance) and not worry about checking in! I then took a walk-through the facility paying special attention to the pool areas. Amy had advised me that there was Silver Sneaker Exercise Class at multiple times two days a week, but there was an extra fee attached to it. Once all my paperwork was completed I went walking down the halls to check out everything that was in progress. The pool area is very nice. Very clean with lots of options , there are lanes open in the big pool for lap swimmers. There are classes that happen in the big pool and lessons. I decided it was worth the $40 a month to take the silver sneaker therapy pool class. As It will help me develop a routine. On my way out. I saw a display of T-shirts in various colors and sizes that all had the YMCA logo. I decided it would be nice to have one so I found my size and took it back to the desk where Amy checked me out. She also helped me complete the forms necessary to take the class and made sure they had room as there are a maximum of 10 people , ensuring that you have a good experience. I'm very excited to start tomorrow. I told Amy she really is an exceptional representative of the Twin Lakes YMCA as her customer service is exquisite!!! More to come......

We attended my grandson's 2-hour birthday party on a recent Sunday at the Anderson Mill IdeaLab…read moreKids location. I think it was one of the best children's parties I've ever seen. There were 3 planned, hands-on activities for the children (this group included mostly children 8-9 years old), and there was also some "free time" in a large open room, so the kids got some movement. That same room was used to test out the childrens' completed take-home projects. Each of the planned activities was set up in a room with tables and chairs, with one person overseeing each table. For two of the activities, the children took home what they made. There's a party room in the back of the space with a long table, plus space to set up a cake and other snack items. In addition to birthday parties, IdeaLab also offers after-school care and summer day camps, set up by age group. We signed my grandson up for a week of summer camp. There's a wide variety of camp choices, but we expect many will fill up quickly. IdeaLab Kids seems to be a great option for children to have STEM fun in a hands-on environment.

My son has been attending summer camps at idea lab since he was 5 (now turning 10) and he LOVES it…read morethere! He has tried several others and Idea Lab is the ONLY one he has consistently wanted to return to each summer. It's a relatively small group of kids which he likes and he has freedom to be creative and exposure to so many new things and also has made some good friends there. He played chess for the first time there and came home and beat me! I've also found it to be the most flexible and most convenient camp in our area which is honestly why we chose it in the first place. We can drop off as early as 7:30 and pick up at 6 which is so helpful for working parents. They also serve snacks and a catered lunch so we can order ahead and don't have to worry about bringing lunch. Adam the owner is super communicative and accessible if we have any questions or need any help at any time (just a phone call or email away).

I wish I had read the previous review before signing my son up for this camp…read more My son attended the first two days of this camp and is not returning. The description of the camp says the kids will learn to create mods for Minecraft. That is not accurate. It also says that they will build a small computer. Also not accurate. The class instructor told us there were too many kids in the class to be doing that. We did learn that they watched a movie each day that had nothing to do with Minecraft. That is only the start. We paid for the camp through Living Social. My wife called them to ask for a refund for the remaining days of camp and they said the owner needed to approve the refund. She finaly got in touch with the owner who was very busy taking her child to the train station. After several rebuttals for why we wanted the refund, she finally agreed to refund us for the remaining days of camp......until Living Social contacted her and she told them NOT to issue a refund to us. Luckily, Living Social did refund our money. When the owner was told about what the instructor said about not building the computers, she was disappointed that the instructor even told us that. I would thing twice about ever signing up for this camp unless you need an over-priced babysitter who appears to be a dishonest person.

This will be a long review so for those not wanting to read my novel here is a quick summary: your…read morechild will have an okay time but as a parent your blood will boil if you spend any money on this camp. What's wrong with this fabulous sounding camp? 1. My son was in the Kano Minecraft camp. The description says it will teach children to learn to program. My son did the first two days. He had fun! On day three he finished all his 'tasks' early. So he played Sim City for two hours. On day four he played Sim City for the entire time after lunch(class is 9-4). Why? Because Suezean was teaching a film class and she needed it quiet for filming so my son's teacher couldn't teach the class! When I complained to the director/owner, Suezean, she first told me there was no Sim City. So we went to speak to my son's teacher. Yep. Sim City. Then she told the teacher he misunderstood. He could have kept teaching, just quietly. She also told me that the two hours my son played on Wednesday was acceptable. *schools take breaks too, you know? You can't expect kids to code all day*. What?!? I do expect breaks, but not TWO HOURS STRAIGHT to play video games!!!!! And she wasn't even aware of it! And when I made her aware she had excuses, not apologies! She actually told me she doesn't know what my son's class is doing, what time they eat lunch, how long their breaks are or what games they are playing. She is too busy teaching her own filming class. 2. The owner will send you multiple emails all with different start and end times for camp. When I told her how frustrating it was to keep changing my schedule she blew me off. She told me that I and one other parent had different times because we signed up early. So I should have disregaureded the emails. I told her it would have been nice if I and the one other parent knew that since I have other children to take places too. She told me she has 5 kids that she gets out of the house on time. Plus she is running this camp without being paid herself, to give back to the community. Basically telling me to stop complaining. Um, no. I've spent tons of money on this camp. Get your act together and tell me the times. 9-4. 9-5. Drop off 8-5. Then 8-5:30. Then 8:30-5:30. Pick a durn time! Again no apology. Just an I can do it so why can't you? 3. Suezean wanted me to switch camps because of low turnout for the first date I picked. She never sent a confirmation email to give me something in writing stating I was now in a different week. I had to request it. 4. The owner did offer me a discount for switching camps. She waited too long to credit PayPal so she said she would mail it. Instead she handed me a check the first day of camp, because she was too busy to get stamps. I went to deposit it on Thursday and she had written two different amounts on the check. The handwritten amount did not match the numerical amount. The difference is only 50 cents but by now it's the principle. She shouldn't charge anyone any money for this camp so that's 50 cents too much she is pocketing. However I don't go to her because she is obviously clueless and disorganized. So, if you want to pay someone hundreds of dollars to sit in a room with your child while they play a simulation game this is the camp for you! However, if you would rather send your child to a camp where the owner/director knows what's going on in the classrooms and there is a true STEM focus please do not sign up for this camp. I promise you, your child will learn nothing and you will regret giving this camp your business.
