Game changers! This is the best way to describe the crew at South Austin Dog Center & Howl N' Woof. I cannot begin to find the words that truly describe the amazing trainers and staff. Payne gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot and has a huge smile on his face every time we arrive to pick him up. Our family fell into rescuing a pup who had been crated 24/7 by his previous owner. His energy level was unlike that of any dog I had met. He was frustrated and confused about how to react to new experiences and starting to act out. I spoke with at least 10 trainers in the area and had even discussed a board and train opportunity out of town. Luckily I was referred to SADC just days before scheduling that trip. We went in for a consultation with Erica & Lynette- I felt stressed and wound up when I arrived as we had not had a true puppy in years. The ladies had such an amazing energy as we began to talk I felt myself become more at peace. Payne loved them. We talked about my worries and their general assessment from watching him. We came up with a plan and booked his first evaluation day. This is hands down the best money we have ever spent. Today is his 5th day of school/training. He is overall a much happier dog. He is mentally stimulated as well as physically tired. Payne's demeanor has changed since he began classes. I am in love with how much happier and calmer he has been since starting classes. Payne is doing amazing without the use of a pinch collar, choke chain or shock collar which I was told would be a must for him by some of the other trainers we talked to. I am ecstatic we have found SADC!!! They are so much more than trainers to us, they are quickly becoming family They take adorable pictures while he is there for the day and text them to me. They dote on him as if he were their own pup. They communicate quickly and effectively when you have a question. Words don't do justice to how AMAZING this crew is. We have been taking our dog there for a little over a year now. Our dog is very high energy and therefore goes 3x a week. She loves it. Every doggy daycare day she waits by her leash for me and the kids to get ready so we can take her. We have also boarded her there as well. Amazing! I actually can't believe I am only writing this review now since we have used them multiple times and had an exceptional experience every time. The people here are great with our Harvey and he loves going here. Their prices are reasonable too and Harvey always comes home clean and happy. They have been super accommodating when we've had last minute requests to drop Harvey off. Last spring my husband had to go in the hospital unexpectedly, they let me drop Harvey off and took care of him "indefinitely" since I had no idea how long the stay would be. It was nearly a week and they never once called or emailed to ask when I would be back. They were truly happy to help during the situation. Been using them sporadically the past 2 years and very satisfied. At first, I was concerned about them being kenneled up for too long, but those worries were soon erased. We always take our dogs for a potty break after pick-up from any boarding place, just to be safe. After HnW, they NEVER go excessively, showing us they've had ample yard time. We've been taking our dog here since we got her as a puppy, pretty much the same time they opened. They've obviously grown due to their service and central location, however it was much better as a smaller business. We used to get text updates and pics of our girl running amok with her buddies or even see a video on their FB page, but we haven't the last several times seen any sign of her there. Amy and Codie are always awesome and by far our favorites, but the newer folks sometimes lack personalities and friendliness, and speed checking in/out. I have been with Howl N' Woof since my first husky was only 6 months old. I came from another doggie daycare because I was NOT happy with the care and attention they gave my little guy...and yes, my huskies are my Fur Babies! :-) In the other daycare, he was coming home with very bad habits, like peeing on the front door!!!! :-0 We brought him to Amy and Cody, signed him up for the daycare 3 times a week and had a play 'n train included. Within 2 weeks, Chase was now peeing on grass! WOOOHOOO!!!! I now have a second fur baby, Zoe, who has fallen in love with Howl N' Woof just as much as Chase. We still can't decide if Chase loves Howl N' Woof, or if he loves Amy! :-) We tease that Amy is Chase's girlfriend (move over Cody, you've got competition)! LOL I can't recommend them enough....as a matter of fact, I recommend them all the time, especially at Home Depot. For anyone who has Huskies, you know taking two of them in public is not always fun, but my kiddo's are so well behaved and loved, they love the trips to Home Depot. I never could do that without Amy and Cody's experience and loving care in teaching, socializing and playing with my kids! My dog is my world and it shows in how spoiled he is. Because of his age and energy level I like to take him to a day care a couple of times a week so that he can work some of it off and to be sure that he is socialized. When I realized that I had jury duty I had forgotten about I frantically searched for a place to take him because we had just left a different, larger chain day care because of issues with my dog's behavior (that didn't seem to happen outside of the daycare). A friend told me about Howl-N-Woof's sign so I called and emailed. I was so lucky that they could get him in for the next day! Tuck has been going for a month or two now and Amy and Cody have been absolutely AMAZING! He comes home wiped out (talking going to bed at 8pm and not moving until the morning) and he looks so happy when I pick him up. He also hasn't had any of the out-of-character problems that we were experiencing at the previous facility. We recently started doing training with them and even though we are only a couple of sessions in, I already see improvements in both of us. Come to find out, they train the owners too :) I would and have recommended them to everyone I know with a dog. I am more impressed everyday with how comfortable of an environment it is, while still remaining completely professional. Tucker will be learning and playing here for as long as possible! read more

This place is absolutely amazing!! The staff is incredibly friendly and they've all developed great relationships with my pups. The play area has pools, playhouses, and plenty of room for them to run around with their newly made BFFs. My dogs know when it's time to head to daycare and they go NUTS trying to get to the car- they practically drag my @$$ down the stairs. It's insane. I've almost died 3-4x. Well, or been severely injured. Lol. Oh! Best part? They post pictures mid-day on Facebook so you can see all of the fun your dogs are having. My dog, Lilly, is slightly dog-aggressive when we are out, but at Howl N Woof, she is totally laid back and able to play with dogs that the staff know she will get along with. They really know their stuff about dog behavior, which is fantastic. Other places refused to take Lilly, but Howl N Woof told me they are confident they can handle it! Lilly about rips off my arm when we pull in the parking lot. She always comes home happy and tired. The staff is so friendly and go the extra mile to make sure my fur baby is happy. I never feel anxious when I board Lilly here. I'm in Denver for an internship and I'm struggling to find a place that provides the same level of excellent care while I'm gone for a few days. I've tried two other dog day cares in town and Howl N' Woof is by far the best I've used for our dog Pearl. They have a really thoughtful approach to dog care and were very organized with our dog Pearl. On the first day they kept track of which dogs Pearl "clicked" with and made a note of dogs that were either uninteresting to Pearl or that Pearl showed apprehension to. From what I could tell, they kept the number of dogs to a reasonable level so it didn't seem like dogs crammed into a sardine can (contrary to other experiences we've had in town). My pooch came home super tired from playing and enjoying her day, whereas she's usually bouncing off the walls. Highly recommend. read more

We use Howl n Woof once a week for our two dogs and we've never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and its obvious they are all dog lovers. They treat every dog with respect and their prices are fair. They offer training courses, which we may sign up for one of these days. Our dogs have figured out what "daycare" means and they freak out in excitement whenever they hear the word. The best part is that our dogs are always happy and tired from all the exercise they get while we're at work. I highly recommend this place. Maybe one day, they'll get an indoor play area put together for the days that it rains. But I'm not going to let that hinder a perfect score. Howl n Woof is a great business. read more

Fantastic! Our year-old black lab has lots of energy and anxiety about being left alone during the day. Despite having a walk in the morning and a dog-walker visit in the afternoon, we still returned home every night to some form of home, furniture, or personal item destruction. Stressful for everyone. She now returns home from Howl 'N Woof happy and tired! Her anxiety level is much lower and she can't wait to get out of the car in the mornings to go and play with her friends! The folks who work there are professional, personal and fantastic with the dogs. Not to mention the constant pics and videos being posted to their Facebook page throughout the day just reaffirm how much our dog and the others love their time at Howl 'N Woof. We move out of the area next week and know we will be challenged to find anything close to the great environment provided by these folks. read more

My two dogs, Pedro and Cash, have been going here since I moved back to the area 3 years ago. Pedro is a "special" case--for teachers out there, he pretty much needs an IEP/BIP. He is so scared of people, but does okay with dogs. However, he shuts down if he is scared of someone. I have never ever ever ever (did I say ever?) had a more incredible place and group of staff work with Pedro. He loves it there. He loves everyone there. I'm not sure what they do to make this happen, but when he is at Howl n Woof, the world isn't quite as scary. My other goober is a normal dog and loves it there also. But the fact that they know Pedro's personality, show him that other humans can be kind, and helped him grow, is amazing to me. And the other dogs there are super also. They do a great job monitoring, have small dog groups, etc. I think there is a waitlist because it's such a super place, but well worth putting your name/dog's name on it. I don't trust anywhere else to watch my two for day care once a week--and CERTAINLY don't trust anywhere else to board them when I go away. It's that piece of mind knowing your dogs are safe, having fun, and being loved that makes it worthwhile. This is gonna be long, but please read through. As far as the facility it's self goes the yard outside is great. However, I do not agree with their crating practice at all! I have a 6 month old puppy that I have trained to be in a crate only when necessary. I work from home, as does my husband on occasion, and see no reason to put my dog in a crate when we are here. To even think about doing so is absurd to say the least! I am trying to train my dog so that they can go anywhere to any place and I not have to worry about them being crated up while we have to leave. I want them to be able to roam unattended and not have to worry about anything. I decided to put my puppy in doggie daycare so I wouldn't have to put her in a crate for long periods of time during the day. I don't find this to be fair to her, as I wouldn't want to be put in a confined place after having to sleep in it all night. Also, I wanted her to be able to get the exercise and socialization of being with other dogs. But I only take her once a week as I am able to take her to the dog park myself. I use this day to do meetings and appointments for work when I cannot be home the entire day. So with that being said I got a call from whom I believe to be the office manager on her fist day there saying that my puppy was whining the entire time she is in the crate. I understand if you have to crate a dog for a bit to manage the animals, but what I learned was something else. Keep reading. The next week I take my puppy and when I picked her up the guy said she whined......again. Now mind you he wasn't the friendliest at all and actually was a bit rude. When he came back with my puppy he said he was wrong that she only whined in the morning and was really good that afternoon. So week 3 (her third time there) I get a call in the mid afternoon from the same manager saying that my puppy was excessively whining in the cage and they couldn't get her to calm down. Due to this my puppy was getting kicked out of their daycare! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! Kicking out my 6 month old puppy for whining.....not aggressive, or harmful to others but for whining....... Now here's the part that really upset me. She said that my puppy was not allowed to come back unless I paid for private training lessons from the trainer there. OR if I put my puppy in the crate while I was at home for hours so she would get used to it and came back in a month to see her progress. She said that she was trying to give me suggestions on how to resolve the problem, but these were her only suggestions she seemed to have. If I didn't do one or the other my puppy was unwelcome. I asked her how long my puppy was being crated for in the 7 hour period that she was there. Her answer was not exact as she tip toed around the question multiple times. But my guess from what I was able to get out of her was about half the time that she was there. My PROBLEMS with this: 1) I already have my puppy in training. I DON'T need TWO trainers. Seemed like her suggestion was to shell out money to their trainer that I do not have. 2) I am NOT going to crate my dog while I am home! She goes in there when it is time for bed without me having to do anything. She doesn't whine and throw a fit when I put her in the crate when I have to leave the house for a few hours. If she did throw a fit TRUST me my neighbors would be happy to let me know. 3) To expect a puppy to be crated from 3 to 5 hours in a 7 hour period during the day after they have been in there at night for at least 7 hours is WAY to LONG!!!!! I took my puppy there to be out and about not crated half the time. I could have saved the money and left her at home in a crate. Well to say the least if you don't mind your doing being caged up half the day and then allowed to go out for half the day then this place is for you. My husband and I both agree that dogs were not meant to be caged up like Shamu at Sea World. They are meant to run around and play, especially puppies! Good luck to you and I find it strange that so many people are raving about this place and this policy. Maybe they just aren't aware of what is really going on. Last thing. My puppy has been going to Classy Diva Day Spa for months and they do not crate their dogs. Every time we went there she was super happy and was so tired from playing all day. Why am I not still going there any more you ask? Because their facility is meant for smaller dogs and unfortunately my puppy is now 45 pounds at 6 months. She out grew the place. When I picked up my puppy from Howl & Wolf she couldn't wait to leave and seemed to have more energy than when I left her there. I guess it was because she was stuck in a crate most of the day. I did give the place two stars because the woman tried to be as professional as possible and like I said the yard was nice and big. read more

I called to "inquire for discount packages" on their doggy daycare service. I was only looking to have our two dogs there for one Saturday afternoon while we hosted a party at our house. When asked if we've been to Howl n' Woof before I told them no and was told in return they could not help me. "They aren't taking new clients". I can understand being a small space and not having a lot of room for reoccurring dogs, but this was going to be one day- on the weekend no less. The guy on the phone (who was polite so I'll give them that) stumbled through telling me to maybe call back in a month or two and they might have an opening, oh and the discount package was "..umm I think 10 or 15% off the second dog...". Cool so you just lost potential revenue for not taking in a one time client and I for sure will never call back to "check for an opening". read more

I cannot say enough great things about Hoel N Woof dog day care and boarding. They really care about my dog. She can be shy but after the first day she wiggled happily when we got to Howl N Woof. They knew I was having a challenging time house training and were able to give me one small tip that gave us a breakthrough. Boarding includes day care and their rates are very reasonable. This is one of my favorite places to take my pup. He is big clumsy with lots of energy. Amy, Codie and the team did a great job with him. They are dog trainers and very knowledgeable on handling all types of dogs. The key for me was when I checked out the "nap room". I can tell from the dogs' reactions if this is a good place or not. The pups seemed happy and relaxed when I toured the facility. As of mine, they did a great job in managing him. I have been going here since they opened and I couldn't be happier. We have already boarded our dog more than 50 nights and she is always very excited to go. They have a nice fenced in area outside for them to play in and they take precautions during the hot summer. They really take the time to know your dog. My dog doesn't like to eat when she's not at home and they take extra measures to make sure she does. The people at the front desk are always really nice. Like another reviewer said, they post pictures up on facebook and its nice to see my dog having a good time. I could not be happier with this place. Absolutely the find of the year for me. I adopted a puppy that grew into an energetic doggie in no time. I realized that my fall schedule didn't leave him enough time to be really stimulated and to get proper care and exercise. So we started daycare here a few days a week and things have been dramatically different. He comes back exhausted and wakes up on his best behavior. Howl n Woof has been a great experience for us. As a new dog owner, I was really apprehensive about turning my puppy over to strangers. We have taken our dog there almost every Wednesday since August 2012 and have only extremely good things to say. Amy, Cody and Amanda have been fantastic buddies to Chico! I notice how enthused Chico is when I drop him off - he actually wants to go! And there is no residual bad behavior when he comes home - on the contrary, he is relaxed and very content! Their first priority is for the safety and care of our furry friends, but it is a special treat when they post videos of the doggies at play. I like seeing all the dogs at play, and it helps to allay any concerns. The yard is a pretty good size, enough space for each dog to run around and play. The Howl n Woof team are also good with the humans too! I ask a lot of questions and they have always been very patient and pleasant with responses. I call ahead to find out when they have the most "littles" coming to play and they make recommendations. I highly recommend this establishment! read more

We were referred to Howl N Woof by a good friend of ours and honestly we couldn't be happier! Our Siberian Husky makes weekly visits, he has so much energy we needed something to exhaust him! We absolutely love Howl N' Woof and "Auntie Amy" as we refer to Amy to our dog, Button! Button absolutely loves to go there and goes berserk with excitement when we pull in for boarding, just like we're going to the park or some other super fun activity. It's so great to know what great care Button will be under while we're away, and she usually seems to come back with better manners than when she left. We live in Central Austin and met Amy for training services and boarding before they had their facility, which is a pretty far drive for us. It's is about as far as we go for anything, but it's well worth the trip to know that Button is in such capable hands, and enjoying herself so much there. Two or three days a week is just what he needs. The staff are very attentive. They never leave the dogs alone. My almost 2 year old Aussie, Cooper, loves Howl N Woof. He's an active boy and needs some play time during the week while I am at work. I'd take him to Howl N Woof every day if i could. He knows exactly what it means when i tell him we're going to see Amy; he goes immediately to the front door and if I don't follow in short time, he'll come find me and herd me in the right direction. He can be a handful; he's stronger and sometimes smarter than I am and Amy always provides great advice on how to make our lives together a little easier. He's a very important and loved member of the family and I won't leave him with just anyone and I toured numerous dog daycare facilities here in Austin before deciding on Howl N Woof. He comes home happy and exhausted and, quite often, better behaved than when he left home and I never have a worry during the day about his safety or welfare. I know that Amy and staff give him just as much attention and love as he gets at home. I'm truly heartbroken that a move across town in a few weeks will make it impossible, logistically, for my best friend to continue daycare at Howl N Woof. I've been so pleased with his care there that I actually based my new house search on properties close to the facility so that he could continue to go but fate is taking us elsewhere and we're both going to miss Howl N Woof a lot.
