So, the wife and I just purchased a gently used 2019 5th wheel here at Gander RV 2 weeks ago. Our trade in had some unknown to us issues and the deal was looking shaky, but the manager decided it made sense to treat the customer right and resume the deal on the original figures. The F&I team was fantastic to work with and I would like to give a shout out to Sherry Archie for working this deal remotely and to Scott Bryner for being so cool and entertaining us while all went to heck. We arrived at the dealer at 10 am and did not leave until 1630. I know, that seems a bit much but anything that could go wrong, did and usually does for us. You can buy from here but whatever you do, do NOT bring your unit here for service, or warranty claims. I'm in a warranty battle right now solely due to the incompetence of the staff. They failed to prepare the claims. They refuse to advocate for the customer to Keystone for any of the claims, and they failed to test two major items that were malfunctioning and told me that they're fine. ALSO, the service was 5 days longer than quoted over the phone, I had to call to get them to finish the job, and when I picked up my unit, they tried to squeeze in a misc ~$400 of fees and altered rates. I had to argue for over an hour to get them to fix the price and remove the unquoted "shop fees". This is quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I was optimistic. I was really hopefully that I wouldn't have the stereotypical experience that everyone on the internet claims to have with any Camping World/Gander service shop. But here I am. They certainly live up to their reputation. read more

WOW is all I really need to say. If you are looking for even the least bit of customer service, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this Gander RV. Worst service I have ever received from any establishment.... reasoning, here ya go. 1. Dropped my RV off for service (oil change, check-up, small repairs, and then an electrical part that needed to be replaced. Dropped off on Oct 2, 2021. Two weeks later, no call to let us know the status, so I called them. Oil Change was done, but electrical part had not received authorization yet from the insurance company. Our service rep input the email and phone number incorrectly into the system. Two weeks go by, still nothing. Then I get a phone call, not from a manager but a poor receptionist that had to inform me that my RV had been broken into and that I was responsible for replacing the part that was stolen. Not only did they not call us right away, the manager told me that it had happened between Oct 14-18 but we didn't get the call until Oct 21, just ridiculous. The Catalytic Converter had been stolen and now was going to cost $3700.00 to fix. 2. Gander did nothing to accommodate us at all, offered no assistance other than working with our insurance company to collect their money to replace what they neglected to protect. Had to call the manager ourselves and talk to him, never once did a manager call us and apologize, we had to reach out to them. Went to pick up our RV, do you think a manager came to speak to us.... NOPE. By the way, the electrical portion is still not fixed. They would "call" us when the part came and and we would go back and have it fixed. 3. Called today because it has now been two months since our initial drop off and still no part, or call. I told them to cancel my service, I would never, ever, return there. Christopher was our sales guy and I'm not sure he told us one true statement. We were shopping for a 5th wheel as you may know they usually have a huge decal on the front of it. This one was faded and ripping so we asked if he could remove it and he agreed if we bought the camper. We agreed. ( we live 2+ hours away) this would take hours to remove so we said we would come back another day when they have finished. Christopher tells us the day it will be complete and ready for us to pick up. We show up to the decal still on it! After getting the runaway we found out the truth. Christopher asked for the "Sticker" to be removed which was confused as the orange used sticker instead of the decal. They asked if we could wait around for 4-5 hours while they remove it. With a 1 year old that was not an option for us. We asked if they could take $500 off (because we already priced removal cost with a local company) they would not take anything off or help in anyway. We leave with the agreement that when they remove the decal they will deliver the camper to our home. An hour later Christopher calls and says he was removing the decal but its peeling off the paint so he stopped immediately to call us. He told us it would cost an additional $3500 to have it removed and repainted! We pushed because he guaranteed us that he would remove it himself if he had to make us happy. We again offered to take it as it was with a $500 reduction because we knew we could have it removed professionally. They declined again. Wanting the camper because other than the sticker its perfect for us. We said bring the camper to us and we will take care of the sticker. We get a call again that the sticker is removed and some paint is missing! I asked how they are going to make it right and they basically said take it or leave. Not one apology from anyone! -also Christopher told us the monitor for the back cameras were in the camper, it isn't so that was an additionally $700 we had to pay to get the monitor. read more

Consigned our trailer for 60 days here- after all, we did buy it from them 2 years ago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Communication at this place is 0 and callbacks are non-existent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After no action at the ridiculous price they had on it (corporate sets the selling price)- they want to sell their stuff- not yours- we went to pick it up. Ready to go out front- all locked up- and no keys- anywhere on the premises. They have lost every key for everything including the hitch lock and ball lock- on one very large key fob. They have no system for accountability of keys for how many trailers on this lot! A few master keys left us able to hook up and drive home. At this point I'll bet they never showed this unit to anyone, however, there are some greasy handprints all over the inside. Hello~ The term "Happy Camper" is certainly not applying to me. On August 5 I called your Thornburg VA location to check about getting a repair, Shannon informed me that the 1st available appointment was for August 14 at 9am, I explained that my fiancé was the only one that could take it there so I would have to check with him as it is a work day and he would have to take time off, he leaves fir work at 3am and does not return home until 5pm, we live 30 miles as the crow flies, approximately an hour drive if the traffic is good. I called back and confirmed that if the appointment was still available, I would take it, she suggested that if I could get the Travel Trailer there by 4pm, on that day (Saturday) they could hold it there until the scheduled repair. I also requested the free roof inspection that Camping World offered me when I made the purchase of the Travel Trailer, I was told to make sure all stowaways and doors were to be unlocked, which is unsettling but I was assured the Travel Trailer would be stored behind a high, electric fence. We all agreed to the above. The Travel Trailer was checked in sometime around 12 noon on the 5th, It was explained to me a diagnostic would have to be done at the charge of $97 and if that and any repairs needed could be done before the 14th, they hoped to fit us in, we agreed to that offer. About 1 hour later I received a text from Shanon explaining an error in the price she quoted me for the diagnostic, I was a bit miffed, but it is what is and I agreed to the newly quoted diagnostic price. I sent Shannon back a text with the claim number from my insurance company, which she responded to. Monday the 14th comes and I hear nothing. I placed a call at 4:10, 4:31 (3x), 4:32 (2x), 4:33, and finally 6:38. The multiply calls were because I kept getting hung up on, one I cancelled because it did not go through. The last call I was informed that the shop was closed but someone would contact me the next day. I received no call. On the 15th I called at 10:21am asking what was going on with my Travel Trailer, I was told that computers were down and nothing was known, not even if the diagnostic was done, but it would be checked on and I would receive a call. No one called me back. Today, August 16, I made an attempted call at 10:29 and was hung up on, I called back at 10:30 and requested the service manager, I was told she was not available. I gave a quick rundown of what I have explained here and was told the service manager would call me back, I still have received no word. I now realized I was NEVER given any contract, papers or work order stating that my Travel Trailer was dropped off for repairs, NOTHING...this is unsettling as I realize someone can come in and possibly remove my Travel Trailer, pretending they are the owner. All the above is unacceptable. I worked CS for years and would never have given this service, or rather lack there of, to anyone out of the respect I had for them, my organization and myself. I will be writing a scathing review on social media and all internet platforms regarding the Thornburg Camping World location. Just don't! I mean if you like throwing money don't the toilet then this is the place. Bought a camper from them 2 years ago and it was nothing but BS after we signed on the dotted line. It also didn't help that out sales person wasn't the most knowledgeable when we asked questions. She often had to refer to her coworkers for the answer or just didn't know. Looking back we got hoodwinked and in reality are paying DOUBLE for a camper that was 4 years old at the time. They sell you all these warranties that are not needed. We were first time buyers and I think they saw us coming and got us because we had never owned an RV before. Also, they were supposed to run through all the ins and outs of the camper when we went to have it delivered. It's was more like oh here it is and good luck. Not to mention when they delivered the camper to our campground where we store it...it had a flat tire. We went back to the dealership just to be told well we don't know when we can fix it and gave us the run around. At the time they were more interested in making the days sales then helping us. Now jump to a few weeks ago we thought of maybe trading in our current camper and upgrading. We went back to give them a second chance. Uh..yeah nope. The sale woman was WONDERFUL...but after looking at their prices and then at places online and at other RV sale places and even at RV shows it was again going to be a complete rip off buying from them. You can get SO much more for your money elsewhere. All I can say is hind sight is 20/20. I just wouldn't want anyone else who is first time buyer to have to go through the same mess we went through. Update: 29 June 22 The service rep called and said I had an outstanding bill for work they didn't complete that the manager agreed to cover due to the lack of craftsmanship and quality control. Keep in mind I picked up my camper in Feb. Once again lack of follow through and communication. Even corporate couldn't call or email me back after I responded to there reply to my original post. Original February post: Purchased a new camper from Gander, now Camping World of Thornburg October 2, 2021. Extremely quick to take my money but ZERO customer service thereafter. When I picked up my new Keystone Bullet travel trailer 3 days later it had all the compartments open while it was raining for my initial inspection/pickup. Not awesome, spent the first 20 minutes having them dry the composite wood to prevent water damage. Apparently no forethought to close all the open compartments during the downpour. During the walkthrough, I noticed the kitchen counter had significant water indicating a window leak. I was told that the window was not properly closed, no issue. Fast forward 30 days and I have a list of warranty items to fix prior to winterizing to include 2 leaking windows, water damage due to the previously pointed out leaking window on the kitchen cabinets, a faulty plug, and a loose exterior back outer wall! I get an appointment to drop off at their service Nov 15. I called weekly for updates. The first month they were waiting on their own internal warranty submission. At a month and a half they finally submit only 3 of 5 items to keystone for warranty approval without explanation on the other 2 remaining. I continue to call weekly for another month with no change requesting return calls from a manager. Nothing. At two month I continue to pester them to submit the other two items for warranty repair. No action. Just prior to 3 months, I finally tell them "they win, I will pay out of pocket for the remaining two items just to get this complete." They finally attempt to fix the items, of the five, 2 require them to now order parts (previous part ordered was incorrect, but only noticed after taking apart my cabinet and having the part for 3 weeks). I picked up my trailer on the day agreed, now 10 Feb 22 just shy of three months and my 30 day old trailer looks used. Reference the attached pictures for the five items they attempted to fix in 3 month. Keep in mind the camper was just over 30 days old when dropped of for warranty work. 1. Leaky kitchen window. Now the window has a 1/4 inch of silicone and Butyl tape oozing out of the outside clearly indicating a poor attempt at sealing it. On the inside multiple screws and now loose and protruding from the bezel and screw heads were broken off with no attempt to repair. 2. Kitchen counter. The kitchen counter was disassembled only to realize the incorrect part was ordered three weeks prior. Upon picking up the vehicle on the specified day I now have a disassembled kitchen cabinet. 3. Kitchen plug. Repaired with no issues. 4. Bunk window. I informed the technical advisor of the leak at which point they indicated they cannot duplicate. They recommended I conduct a vacuum test of the window using my own money to indicate if there was a leak ($300). I finally offered to pay since they said there was no other way to fix the window. The test indicated there indeed was a leak at which point after three months they said they would now have to submit for warranty. Summation, they have had my camper for three months and have yet to submit this for warranty. 5. Back exterior camper wall. This item was never submitted for warranty in an order to get this complete required me paying out of pocket which I opted to do to get these items moving. After picking up the trailer and driving home, the wall came loose again in the repair they attempted looks worse than before. When I picked up my travel trailer and pointed out all of the discrepancies to include a dented refrigerator I asked to speak with the manager. After waiting for the manager he reviewed my file and took a look at my camper. According to the manager all the repairs were conducted according to industry standard and pass quality control checks. I am continuing to wait for parts to fix my disassembled cabinets and leaking window however I am not comfortable with the level of work provided at this facility. Have the manager indicated that he was not happy with the level of work instead of trying to tell me that I was wrong and this is the industry standard I may consider returning my camper. My recommendation is to avoid the Thornburg camper world service department completely. I'll work at tempted on my 30 day old camper has now resulted in worse workmanship and quality than the original issue. read more

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I can't stress that enough. Here's why: 1. Salesman Don was friendly and responsive before the sale. Hasn't returned an email or phone call after the sale. 2. Dealer sold me a Fastway E2 hitch with trunnion bars that are underweight for the tongue weight of the trailer (per customer service at Fastway). I had to purchase heavier bars on my own. 3. Made us pay $500 inspection fee to "make sure everything is right". Inspection missed that the camper awning had a broken arm that cost $500 to repair. Also had a key that didn't work. Have been waiting a year for a replacement. Gave up on them and bought a digital keypad. 4. Dented my the tailgate of my truck and then told me tough, our worker said he didn't do it. Manager would not come out of her office to talk to me. They just kept saying "our guy says he didn't do it". You could clearly see where the trunnion bar dented my vehicle. It matched perfectly. Update: they did repair/repaint my tailgate. It was an okay job. Do not give them your keys and leave the vehicle unattended. Those were my facts, here is my opinion. When talking with fellow campers about this place (and I talk to alot of them), I have yet to meet anyone that has had a positive experience with this place. That should speak volumes. read more

Honestly the repair service is the worst I have ever had. Itss been a 6 month process to get some trim repaired on warranty work. They constantly give me time frames it will be completed in, that never get reached. I was told to bring my RV in because parts where there for repair. 5 weeks later, "Parts were still on order." We drop it off again because it wasn't finished and it was never touched because "Parts were still waiting to come in". They piece it together. Tell us everything is in and its a 2 day fix. Service Dept.- Great job on repairs! Fair, honest and skilled workers with a wonderful sense of attention to detail. I had an electric awning and rear quarter panel replaced, wheel bearings packed and winterization conducted. I was in the unique position of not needing them to be in a hurry. They did not have an issue with that nor charged me storage fees. The repairs were awesome. I expected a similar quality awning as the manufacturers OEM equipment. Nope! I was upgraded to an awesome awning! When I picked up my travel trailer, the service dept. personnel gave me a walk through of the repairs. He also walked me around the trailer and informed me of all of the points I need to be concerned of and described to me all of the caulking needing replaced. He didn't try to sell me or pressure me. He merely educated me in what needed to be done to prevent impending water damage if not addressed. read more

Stay away from camping world for any repairs. This is the most incompetent service center and service advisors I have ever worked with. First off, I take my trailer to get a diagnostic test done on water leaking into the unit and I ask for a state inspection to be completed as well. They call me later in the day to tell me that they will have to run a diagnostic because the lights won't turn on for inspection even though we just dropped it off and they worked fine. Then they call me back to tell me that it was their mistake and they forgot to turn on a switch. And these are the people that are supposed to fix my camper. As far as the water leaks, I was told that the roof had visible cracks to some of the seals and this needed to be fixed. I had asked about any guarantee on the service if it continued to leak and he said there was none. It was also not communicated that there is an option to pressurize the unit and soak it looking for leaks for a fee of $250 to ensure the leaks are found. This would have been useful seeing as how they just guessed these areas were where the water was leaking. To top it all off the communication was terrible. I was never called to be informed about the camper being fixed, how much I was charged, etc. and after repeat phone calls over 6 with voicemails left every time I finally got a call saying it was ready for pick up without any details. I called on the day of pick up and the operator informs me the service center is open until 6, but in fact on Saturdays they close at 1pm. So luckily I got there by 1254 and no one seemed to care that we were told the wrong information. On the day of pick up the person helping us (who was technically my service advisor) was new and had to get the more "senior" advisor involved as I told them what a frustrating situation this was. I asked who I should speak with and this was never answered. At the end of the day my camper cost 1800 dollars for resealing certain areas of the roof and a state inspection without any guarantees this was the entire leak issue. What a joke. The parts were merely $100 and the remainder of my bill was all labor at a rate of $145/hour. I will never be dealing with camping world again and I advise you not to make the same mistake. read more

I can say with certainty that we are finally done with Camping World. We have had our camper for 5 years now, and we will not be buying our next camper from them. Their service department is absolutely the worst! Since last year or the year before, you can no longer drop off a camper overnight to have an inspection done the next morning. When you work 50 miles away and need to be at your place of employment prior to the service dept opening, this is our only option. I picked up my RV at the Thornburg VA Camping World on 06-14-2022, more than 4 months after my drop off. To my surprise, I had to pay close to $4000 to retrieve my vehicle which was in dichotomy with Virginia State law stating an estimate of charges should be provided to customers and agreed to prior to work being done. Camping Word did not comply. I was blindsided regarding the final costs of repairs for which I did not receive a written or verbal estimate. Also, to my surprise when I picked up my vehicle, my brakes were not working properly, the brake pedal was going to the floor as if the brakes were not properly bled, and my power steering was almost completely gone. Camping World did not care about my safety prior to my driving off of its lot, knowing that I had to drive more than 50 miles to get home . My vehicle is now, not drivable, which means that it has to be serviced at another location, in spite of the $3900 plus paid to Camping World. I do not recommend this company, Camping World. Its customer service is at the bottom of the rating scale and based upon my experience, the technicians are incompetent. I'd be curious to know if they are even certified. I'd prefer a junk yard mechanic to Camping world's mechanics. Thus far, in spite of my complaints, it has fail to offer a remedy, which includes making my vehicle safe to drive. read more

My husband insisted on giving Camping World a second chance, it was a complete loss of time, energy... Nice people work there if it's not for the visitor front desk mandatory enrollment signing sheet. Very good marketing technics to put people at ease and asleep. Don't take your RV here for service even if it is warranty work. I waited a month and a half for an appointment to drop it off. Once I dropped it off I called weekly to find if there was any progress on the 6 or so warranty items. Week two-no one had even looked at the issues. Week three- escalated the work to a manger to be sure they got to it the next week. Week four- one item was fixed the rest of the items were waiting Thor (manufacturer) approval. Week five- spoke to Thor and they had no record of warranty request from camping world. Called Camping world and could not get through to the service department. Left message. Called back the next day after not receiving a callback and was asked to leave another message. I asked to speak to a manger who tried to blame Thor but assured me after another week we would have the work completed. A week later I picked the unit up and found almost nothing completed. The only explanation given was that they were waiting on Thor. In addition to the work not being completed some of the problems were now worse because they had done "troubleshooting". I suppose it would have been a good idea to read some of these reviews before purchasing our first RV. There's some things that you should know, that most first time buyers wouldn't. This may not be specific to this location but non the less, be aware of a few things. We assumed this was much like buying a car. First of all, they are a little pushy at this location, not so much at the Manassas location, especially when it came down to financing. Second, we purchased the RV because of a pretty significant discount they had applied. What was interesting is when we contacted our back and the got the suggested value, it was what we were paying for it anyways so no real discount. Otherwise we were happy with the actual RV and the cost value. Definitely a great starter RV. I will tell you that they will talk a big game about the rates they can get you to finance through them. They tried to pull the number game where they showed me this really low payment but don't tell you how any years its for. Kinda shading practices you see outside military bases and such. Of course I asked for all that info and then used the trusty app on my phone to show how their calculations were off a bit on the monthly payment for the rate they listed. I suppose they expect people to be so excited about an RV that they done look closer. I knew our credit union could beat it and they did, by a good deal. If you purchase the RV without financing it through them, they will treat it as a cash sell and not record the bank as a lien holder. That will bite you later as it is with me right now. I now have to go to the DMV and pay whatever fees are required to record the bank as the lien holder. Apparently I'm being told that some states will also charge the sales tax again. Lets hope that's not the case here. Be aware of this so you can head that off before you hand the check over. That's very important because the moment you hand that check over they no longer are willing to do much of anything for you. They will hold doors for you and answer all questions until that time. They did not leave my RV in a state to be moved after they hooked it up to my truck and told me it was good to go. Luckily I did a walk around and placed drain caps back on and secured everything. They also didn't mention that the 30 Amp cable that was connected was mine and not theirs so it got left. I'd probably list this as a two but the title thing has really irked me a bit. I wouldn't buy anything from here unless maybe your paying cash and have been through the process before. In Summary, we are happy with the RV and the cost value of it. We do not feel comfortable having business dealings with this particular dealership moving forward. read more

Absolutely dreadful service. We made 2 appointments for service. told them what we wanted fixed and they took 2 weeks to tell us what we needed fixed and did absolutely no service whatsoever. This is the second time we have taken it. Our first time taking it there they never fixed anything either and we spent 6 hours waiting for service after they told us it is ready. My experience since day 1 has been a complete confusion. None of the employees seem to have a clue what's going on. We are active campers who like using our RV often but I never thought I'd say I would actually regret trading in my 2018 TT for a 2021 TT. The new one was much more expensive, but has had issues since day 1 (exterior and interior doors not latching or closing properly, recliner not staying closed just to name a couple). Salesman said those are all cosmetic and can be fixed. We took delivery of our new camper and things weren't fixed. Then, we dropped it back off 2 more times for repairs that never got done. One employee would say it was done and ready to pick up when another says the ticket is still open and not fixed. We are picking it back up again tonight because we have to go camping and I was just told they haven't touched it because they are waiting for approvals from the manufacturer warranty to start the repair work. I'm now almost 4 months in to ownership and these things are still not fixed! I want my old camper and money back this point or another new one without these issues. I never had this issue with the Camping world in PA where I got my 2018 Prowler. So far, the Gander RV in Thornburg, VA has been messy and disorganized to say the least. I am not a happy customer and usually don't complain much at all but I'm ready to take further action. This is ridiculous. Always a buyers beware type of situation but when you purposefully use used higher priced reputable dealer who treats you this way i am upset their answer was they don't own them! They are just selling these for the manufacturer so it doesn't and shouldn't effect the Gander RV name or reputation. Mind blown because they can't seem to repair these issues for me. What a complete waste of money and poor customer service with no compensation and no accountability. read more

CAMPING WORLD - WORST BUSINESS EVER - DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THESE PEOPLE. Brought camper in for service. Had specific requests to be fixed. Two weeks went by with no word. Called to check on the repairs and was told it could take the technician 10-14 days to even look at it.... ok well? While on the phone they proceeded to upsell more crap that it didn't need. I told the sales person when I needed it to be done - had a trip coming up, they said it would be finished by then. 35 days later I call to pick up the camper - I was handed a bill for "services and labor" over 1400$. Waited another 40 minutes to have them bring the camper out - which looked as if it sat in a field untouched. No one came out to explain any work that was done - no one came out to go over the major repairs I needed. I asked to speak with the manager - conveniently after an hour more of waiting he was not in on this day. Before driving to the other sales building 100yds away, the nice sales girl came out to tell me they "still need to empty my tanks" ...... seriously? 35 days and this was one of the major repairs I needed. My tanks were no emptying. I told them something was not working. Drove it over to the other building where we waited 45 more minutes and no one came out to do the tanks. Went back and asked for the manager again (a different one that was actually there came out) wasn't his department but he was trying to help. He had one of his guys work on the tanks and agreed that the work was not done. We asked him to check the tires bc we believed nothing was done to this camper since leaving it with them. He checked the pressure - 48psi - wtf - they are supposed to be 65! Left that day called cc company and refused to pay the bill. Took it on vacation the next day - got down to where we were going and the fresh water tank fell out of the bottom - FULL - as I said the major reason we went there was to check that the tanks were working properly and the tires were checked. Neither of those were done - and there was no one to come tell me what actually was done - my panel inside the camper still didn't work. My gas switch to auto still didn't work. Yet these people have the balls to keep treating people like this. What kind of business is this? They should have no stars. Shitty company. All about the dollar. read more
