I am so glad I chose Campos Landscaping to overhaul our entire backyard. I didn't have many referrals to do full landscape transformation so I vetted a good amount of companies before choosing Campos Landscaping. Selecting a random, unfamiliar company without ever working with them or through referrals is really difficult and daunting considering how much money large projects will cost you. Meeting with Jose (the owner of the company) quickly alleviated all my concerns though. Campos Landscaping is everything you'd want when partnering on a large project like your backyard. Jose (the owner of the company) is: 1. Always on-time (including his crew) 2. Fantastic communication (phone or text--consistently clear and timely) 3. Extremely professional (i.e. the crew is easily identifiable in their branded Campos shirts, meticulous in their daily cleanup, and always courteous) 3. On-site for the jobs and available to answer all questions you have at any time 4. Addresses and remediates all issues immediately, ensuring the project progressed smoothly 5. Takes pride in his work and flexible when requiring adjustments during the project 6. Well-structured payment schedule based on the duration of the project 7. Provides a digital rendering of the proposed backyard transformation Before Jose and his crew started, our backyard was a complete mess. We had old cement walkways with drainage issues and pooling. Majority of the backyard was dirt/weeds with a couple of large trees in random places. Our cinder block walls weren't the prettiest to look at and our fencing complementing those walls weren't any nicer. For the estimate, Jose arrived on time and took the time to actually measure the yard and talk to me about what my plans were for the yard. He didn't rush the estimate either--he took the time to understand my vision for the space, offering valuable insights and suggestions that were eventually added into the final design. He provided the estimate/quote by end of day and hopped on calls for all questions I had. His responsiveness and ease of communication made me feel comfortable going with Campos Landscaping. During the entire process, Jose would let me know what to expect each week (i.e. demo, cement, fencing, drainage, sod) so I never had to ask him what's next. Any issues I had or noticed during the process was never a difficult discussion with Jose. He was always prompt to address my concerns and he took care of it quick. Mid-way through the project, we decided to add on to the project since we liked what Jose and his crew already did plus we really liked working with Jose. We revamped our front walkway (previously old red bricks), extended our driveway, and added an awesome 8 foot built-in BBQ grill. Now that the project has completed, I can enjoy our amazing backyard and just admire the beautiful work Jose and his crew have done. Also, with the massive amounts of rain we just received (February 4-6, 2024), I can attest that the drainage works extremely well with zero pooling in our backyard. Before, I'd be outside sweeping water away from the foundation and out to the street, but NO more of that nonsense! Don't hesitate reaching out to Campos Landscaping and having a chat with Jose. We selected Campos Landscaping after interviewing and getting quotes from at least 3 Landscape contractors. We found Campos/Jose through Yelp and picked them because of their great reviews, worksample photos on Yelp, competitive price, and eagerness to make it work from the start. We had a designer do a detailed sketch for the backyard and it was a fairly large project. We added on the work for the front yard although it was much simpler in terms of design. Overall it was about a 6-8 week job. Our backward is fairly large (~70 ft across) and 30 ft deep rectangular shape. They built a block wall for the property that was about 6ft high. For the backyard the design comprised of 3 main components - hard patio area, grass (marathon 3 sod) and several large vegetable growing areas. In addition there was a custom made water feature that Jose designed and built for us. We were very happy with the overall effect of the cascading water feature. He also provided trees, ground covers and several flowering plants that were of excellent quality. For certain walkways around the backyard as well as the side, Jose used medium sized polished river rocks. They did all the grading and drainage work as well as irrigation and all of it was high quality. Our property being in an old neighborhood of Rossmoor, Jose's crew had to do extra grinding of some old Ash tree stumps as well as taking out a lot of roots that came in the way. In the front it was primarily do leveling and grading of a very large yard along with irrigation system. Once leveled and graded nicely he seeded with Marathon 3 seeds which have germinated well and now we have nice green front lawn. Jose and his team were very easy to work with, always answering our queries along the process and addressing any question or concern we had about the work. I was very impressed to see Jose's team work even on most Saturday's to get the job done. Jose in particular loves his work and very proud of it, very knowledgeable about plants so always was a pleasure to discuss ideas about various aspect of the project. His crew was extremely careful about cleaning up each day and final clean up and hauling away all trash and unnecessary material and trash left after their work was completed. The project budget was what was decided from the beginning although we did end up adding a few items through change orders. Overall there were no unexpected costs and price we thought was reasonable given the quality and the value. We hired Campos Landscaping for our backyard remodel after going through a design process with a professional designer and getting competing quotes for the job. Jose was very helpful and responsive through the selection process and we chose to go with him mainly for the flexibility he showed during the selection process. Jose and his team did an amazing job. Couple of things we would suggest based on our experience. It was really worth spending the money and time with a designer. Estimates before that were way off from that based on the design. So we could compromise and shop around for some parts. When you do the design, either make sure it has the colors and materials exactly as you like OR be very clear with your contractor what parts of the design you expect to have color choices. This was one part we struggled a bit with with Jose. It was not a big issue, but did cause small delays as we had to stop work. Again, thanks to Jose for being flexible and accommodating with this. But would have preferred to have done this at the right time in the project rather than cause the delay. I really don't believe none of these other posts!! All I can say is that Jose is crook and a liar!! First, he quotes me on 10 24" box Italian Cypresses at $225 per tree, when I came home from work there were 10 15 gallon Italian Cypresses that run about 50 each. He thought i wouldn't know!! Next he tells me he installed a filter with the pump in the water feature. 3 weeks later my water feature is cloudy so I jumped inside, after two weeks of calls and emails to Jose and no response!!, Sure enough, NO FILTER! JOSE IS SIMPLY A LIAR!! Do not trust his work or what he tells you!! By the way his guarantee of his plants is a lie, I emailed that the he set the water timer higher after i told him the trees died from over watering!! Update: 4-09-18 I came home to find the lights to my exterior landscaping were not working upon further inspection I found that the work his electrician almost creating a hazardous fire issue!! I've emailed the problem immediately and their response was that they would come out a week later!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I will be reporting to the contracting board ASAP!! We went with Campos because Jose was the only one of the three guys I had out who had the knowledge and/or integrity to tell us that one of the areas we wanted to put grass in was too shady. The results wouldn't be good. We are very happy with our decision. Great communication, worked with our budget, love the results! Our "yard" was just dirt and old pavers. We removed some overgrown yuccas, put in a new plumeria to go with the one we have, put river rock on that shady patch and bordering the house.
