Spokane has a habit of having very bland Chinese food. That is not the case for Canaan Buffet. First off, the owner and her family always make you feel welcome. The dining room is always clean, the service always fast, and the food is always tasty. I personally love their sushi bar the most. How can you beat the price for all you can eat sushi? And its well made and always a great variety of sushi being prepared fresh and right in front of you. I have never had terrible sushi from them. I have always found the rice to be the perfect texture. There have been some days where there hasn't been a lot of sushi, but it is one person trying to pump out as much sushi as they can when the restaurant can be packed. Decent Asian buffet, typical choices, but plentiful, the buffet is kept clean and well stocked with fresh food. Do not expect anything amazing but it is the best Asian buffet in the area and worth going to if you are hungry and looking for americanized Asian food, this is a definite improvement on the old Granny's buffet that used to be in this spot. read more

We eat there frequently and enjoy everything about the place. The food is great and always fresh. The music is unobtrusive, mellow and adds greatly to the feel of the place. The employees are always helpful and friendly. We use their discount punch card where after so many purchased meals you get one free. They are a far travel for us to get to them (an hour one way), but the trip is worth it. I do have one problem with the place: When I eat there I eat too much. I tend to go back for seconds of the stuffed crab shells and the crab salad. My wife loves the Mongolian Grill and the Sushi Bar (she LOVES the Sushi) (I cannot rate the mongolian grill and sushi because I have been too caught up with my favorite foods and the other offerings so have not given the sushi and grill a try). We love the peanut chicken, the jalapeno chicken, the hot and sour soup and the fruit is always fresh (today my wife went for seconds of the fresh delicious grapes). read more

Their food is not kept at 140 degrees as mandated by the safety code for safe keeping of hot foods. The sushi is terrible, rice is too hard or too wet,fish has no taste,they do not know how to make sushi. The ice cream is filthy and kept at a too high temp and it hard as a rock. Lots of hands touch the scoopers, lot of germs on them and on the ice cream. The food is not hot !!!! some of the foods are old leftovers. the little cake squares they have, a whole tray of them was so old the pieces were falling apart and separating from the tops which were so hard you could not even put a fork into it. Probably two weeks old at least. Canaan buffet is also so dark in there,all the better to hide things. read more

I am from Seattle and I must say I was very impressed with what they do. I have been in so many buffet restaurants across the country and Canaan Buffet is one of the best. O, this is not just my opinion, I brought my parents (who live here locally) and six other guys...and the consensus was the same, they are very very good. I will definitely recommend the place. We always enjoy visiting this buffet when we are on the North side of Spokane. It is clean and the service staff is kind. We enjoy the uplifting Christian music and knowing that we are supporting ministry even while we are being spoiled with great food. The sushi used to be so-so but the last couple of visits we were impressed. The buffet is large and the salad bar fresh and well stocked with REAL greens. The main food items are fresh and tasty and we always walk away feeling like we've had a real treat. Try the pork dumplings, bok choy, and fried rice! This buffet is now one of my favorite restaurants in town. It has some of the best sushi I have ever had in Spokane. I often go there just for the sushi and sesame balls (and maybe some desserts...) Each item in the buffet is a quality item, not your usual so-so buffet food, except for their canned puddings . My husband said that the sea bass is excellent and the best fish in town - worth the price of the buffet, just for that one item. (That is how I feel about the sushi, too.) My girlfriend hates sushi, all seafood, and even Chinese food, but she found enough food in the buffet line to satisfy her and she said the food was very good and she will return. Four of us went to an expensive buffet dinner at a local casino for Thanksgiving, and we ALL agreed that we wished we had gone to the Canaan Buffet, instead. We paid more than twice the price, and received half the quality and variety offered at the Canaan. The restaurant, itself, is beautifully decorated with what looks like expensive carvings and a really cool chandelier centered over the buffet. They obviously take pride in their work and it shows in the quality of their food and service. Their noodle station had oodles of fresh vegetables to choose from to have cooked for you with noodles while you wait. There was a large variety of entrees and sides on their buffet. Overall the food was very good, tasty, and abundance of choices. The down side was the dishes were not clearly labeled as to what was on the Buffett and the ice tea I ordered and was charged for was very weak and barely colored water. WOW! What a fantastic buffet!! My husband and I went on Saturday at lunch time, and we loved Canaan Buffet! It was 100x better than Hong Kong Buffet in the Valley. The food was all hot and delicious, and such a great variety!! They even had sushi and a Mongolian grill! We also loved the atmosphere with the koi pond at the entry, the 3-D paper/cork booth divider scenery, and the table top print of an ancient Chinese town. This place is not as good as the reviews say. My family and I came here and the whole place was packed with people and they only had 1 guy bussing the tables, and getting drinks for people. The food was luke warm (if you're lucky) customer service was TERRIBLE. There was a dead fish in their pond. The price is way too expensive for the quality of food that you recieve. Would've been cheaper and better to go to Panda Express which is in the same vicinity as this place. Since there was only 1 server most people got up and fixed their own beverages from the soda machine. Very poor quality of food. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. My favorite Chinese buffet has closed so we thought we would give this one a try. Nothing bad, just nothing outstanding, except for the service. Our server cleared the table quickly each time anyone had an empty plate, she kept our water and beverage glasses full. Best service I have had at a buffet!
