My friend and I got here on a Saturday noon after a brunch that literally left a bad taste in our mouths! They make your coffee first and serve it to you before you pay, that's very sweet! I got the egg nog latte but I needed some extra sugar and my friend got a white Christmas latte. We both enjoyed our coffee. Canaltown is a nice place selling well-chosen quality coffee without the Pittsford mall vibes of Finger Lakes Coffee's store (no disrespect). Their unassuming storefront belies a homey and clean interior featuring numerous styles of Finger Lakes Coffee and other varieties. The service I received was very pleasant and hospitable. For $2.25, I had a Cuban coffee (espresso poured over raw sugar), which was delicious, and was able to get a free sample of a Honduran coffee and also get refills of Canaltown's Chocolate Raspberry Creme and Rochester's Choice Blend coffees. Talk about a great deal, if you ask me. The coffee was tasty, not overly strong (ahem, Red Fern) and balanced. I'd put the nearby Joe Bean a bit ahead taste-wise, but their prices are crazy in comparison, and Canaltown's aesthetic/seating experience is much more relaxed, comforting and less high-key hipster (again no disrespect). Sitting at a table enjoying our coffee was a pleasant experience, and it felt like a great place to hang out on a rainy day, read/write, meet friends, bring your kids, or grab a cup on the way to work. There were more older folks in attendance than I'm used to seeing at Starbucks or for Wegmans coffee. I'd thoroughly recommend this spot. read more

Great coffee here and the shop is very cute and has indoor seating. They have a variety of regular coffee beans as well as a variety of flavored coffees. I've been a few times to get beans ground for my Keurig. Their coffee is delicious. It's my go-to for fresh ground coffee now. read more

If you like medium roast coffee, they have the best coffee in town. Their Costa Rican regular and decaf are excellent. I also like their hazelnut flavored coffee; the flavor isn't overpowering. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, so I don't have a very advanced palate in that realm. I like sweet drinks, and every sweet drink I've had here has been good. That's about all the advice I have there. The thing I love most here tho are the pastries! There's always a large selection of freshly made baked goods. I've had chocolate cake, carrot cake, a really amazing pecan pie. The muffins are large, but also try the breads (my favorite is the blueberry lemon) which are moist and satisfying without being too sweet. Canaltown in Rochester has good coffee roasted right on the premises, all the fancy espresso/chai/flavored/iced things you could want and an assortment of local baked goods. As a kid, my brother and I would try to finish one of their truly enormous Oreo muffins, but, blessedly, their muffins now approach normalcy in both flavor and size. The only problem with this place (aside from the lousy decor and bad location, that is...), is that they over-roast their coffee, which makes it all taste bitter. Went here for the first time to have a latte as I am considering having them cater coffee for my wedding. The girl who was working was very kind and helpful. I had the salted caramel chiller which was very good! It pretty rich and had a great blend of the coffee and caramel flavor. I cant wait to go back and try more stuff out! Canaltown has some really great coffee which keeps us coming back but even better than their coffee is their staff. My husband and I have been getting our coffee here for years and have always had great experiences. This past July 4th while making a coffee run before my annual camping trip, I had the misfortune of popping a tire when driving into the plaza parking lot. If you're familiar with the plaza they're located in, you can probably understand how it could've happened. I spent 30-45 minutes trying to resolve the situation and once help arrived, I ran inside to grab some coffee. Unfortunately, I was too late. Because of the July 4th holiday, they had holiday hours and were just wrapping up for the day. Fortunately for me, the employee saw and heard my tire pop earlier and could see I was in desperate need for a win. She was able to help me out and she saved the day! I am currently a grad student and this is one of my favorite places to study during the long semesters. This place is small but very comfortable and the music is usually pretty quiet with fast WiFI making it a good study spot. Staff is very friendly and after awhile they get to know you pretty well.
