Found this place through a friend. Dropped by last night close to 6pm to grab a cake. My friend said they had a cake that had a flaky pastry layer, so I had to read some reviews to find it was the Napoleon cake (though I think I kept calling it Neopolitan). I was happy to find they had one ready to go. :) The gal who helped me was very friendly and helpful! The one thing that was odd (maybe I haven't bought cakes enough in my lifetime to know this could be normal) was they charged for a cake knife. I'm assuming it was plastic, however, was told they do not provide. They also charge for candles ($1.50/box, they also sell numbered candles which I'm unsure the pricing of), which may not be as unusual as the cake knife situation. I know I've gotten free candles from asian bakeries, so maybe this was something I shouldn't have assumed could be a complimentary add on. What they do not sell, are matches. So make sure you have a lighter or something to light up because you won't be able to purchase anything to get the candles flaming here. :) Now that I know, and upon eating the cake to know the level of deliciousness it offers, I will be better prepared with the necessities next time if I need to run out to grab a cake to meet up friends immediately. PS The cake had a very moist, smooth spongey cake center and thin layer of light flakey pastry with custard. I usually scrape off the frosting, but I actually liked it SO much! I heard this the owners of this bakery also owns or bakes for Bakers & Baristas, this now all makes sense given my love for the cakes there. I also don't scrape off their frosting. Lol. So glad I found this place, I need to figure out who in my life has a birthday next or a celebration so that I'll have an excuse to purchase a cake from here. :) ...or I did also hear they sell slices, so I may pop in on a random sweet craving day for myself. haha. I have mixed feelings about this bakery. I called on Friday to put an order for Wednesday. I ordered an 8" choco flan with happy birthday on the top. Joe took my order, and everything went so smoothly. I need another cake--a simple cake with a hiking theme, preferably a tres leches. So on Sunday, I called and called since morning, and nobody answered. I decided to drive 40 minutes to their store and arrived at 4:45 pm. I read other reviews that stated how horrible they were during the closing time and was disappointed that the reviews appeared to be true. Here's what happened, I stepped in and was greeted by two ladies. The lady behind the counter asked me what I needed, and I said I wanted to order a cake. She said we are close, come back tomorrow. It was 4:45 pm, and their office hours were 5 pm. She said we need 30 mins for a cake consultation. I said I needed a simple cake, maybe a hiking theme. I showed her pictures from their Instagram, and she said, "NO, we don't do that here" to every photo I offered. "Fondant cake, no. We do buttercream". I showed buttercream decor, a simple ombre cake, and she said, "no, we don't do that." So I asked, what can you make? She answered nothing, and we are close. Oh, you can't imagine how pissed I was at that moment. But I stayed calm and said I had an order for Wednesday and asked if she could check that order. I am trying to put an order for a tres leches cake for Wednesday. She wrote the order down. Then I wondered if I could come tomorrow to order the custom cake, can I cancel the tres leches? She said no. (So many noes at this time). She said she wouldn't input my tres leches order and call tomorrow to order if I can't make it. It was fair enough, so I paid for the choco flan. The next day, on Monday, I can't make it to the store. So I called them. I ordered a tres leches, and the lady was so lovely. She asked if I wanted cream or fruits in the middle, what kind of decorations I wished to with the cake..ballon or rose or fruits. Keep in mind, the lady who was about to take my tres leches order yesterday didn't offer any options. To cut the story short, the cake came out beautiful. An ombre blue, like what I wanted. It tasted delicious too. It has a light flavor and is so juicy. You can eat more and more. The choco flan was good, too. In conclusion, the food was good, but I gave two stars for lousy customer service--such a traumatic rejection. read more

Such a great neighborhood bakery that makes cakes, cookies, cupcakes and special novelties. I've been coming here for maybe 5 years or so and they're quality has always been consistent with good pricing. My favorite cake is the chocolate ganache cake- it appears like it would be too sweet and overbearing .. but it's just so fantastic, light, moist, creamy and chocolatey. Heads up, on weekends I've experienced lines especially of it's a holiday weekend, however the staff tries to keep it moving. Delicious cakes but not so good on the customer service side. Twice they messed up on my cake. First time they lost my cake and had to make me another one. Second time they put peaches instead of bananas in the middle. Called to complain and they said because it was a phone order there was nothing they can do. Cake came out perfect. I ordered Friday and picked up Saturday. For gender reveal cakes you can't get quotes over the phone unfortunately. So I did have to go into the bakery to get quotes and choose an option for gender cake. Service was fast and easy. We called the right before closing on a Saturday the 17th to ask for a last minute 2 tier cake for my birthday on Sunday the 18th, after another baker canceled my cake at the last minute. My sister and I knew the chances of getting a custom cake this late where slim but she reached out to Candlelight anyway. They initially said that the cake I wanted may could not be done in less than 24 hours, but their customer service was above and beyond! Our family has come here for any cakes we have needed for over 20yrs. I'm almost 33 and I can remember going into this bakery as a child and looking at all the pastries, cookies, cakes, etc. (It used to be a couple doors down and not nearly as upgraded as it is now). Through the years we've recommended Candlelight Bakery to everyone we know whenever anything about cake comes up. It is the lightest and fluffiest cake, and I absolutely love the whipped cream frosting. It's not too sweet AT ALL. My favorite filling is the whipped cream with strawberries. I also love the cakes they have premade with the fruit on top and sliced almonds on the side. I love that I'm able to go to Candlelight now as an adult for any time my husband, myself, or our kids need a cake. I've never left a review here before (I'm not a big review person), but the last cake we got, for a 2nd bday we had at our house recently, absolutely blew me away! It was SO beautiful, they did an incredible job!!! It looked so much better than the photo we gave them for reference, and really dressed up the whole party. Great cake and service. Made a pretty complicated cake with 24 hours notice. Not bad for a busy bakery, especially when most others wanted at least 48 hour notice. Seemed a bit expensive, but never ordered a cake like this before Cake -- 5 stars. Tasted great. Vanilla cake with horchata cream on the bottom and red velvet with strawberry filling on top. They actually mixed it up, but came out pretty tasty anyway. Red velvet was the stand out. Could not really taste the horchata, but strawberry was delicious. Service - 4 stars. Other than the slight mix up on fillings, having the cake ready in less than a day was pretty awesome. The My Little Pony decorations had to be added after because the bakery said it might tip over during transport. Made sense, but felt kinda weird, along with the mix up of fillings, which is why only 4 out of 5 stars. Why pay $30 for the decorations at the bakery when we have to add them ourselves? Fair or not? Not sure. Could have bought toys at Target for $10. Price - 3 stars. Cake was $145 and toys we added were $30 more for a total of $175. Is that a reasonable price? Back again - as I promised myself years ago, candlelight was my wedding cake. I ordered two half sheet Napoleon cakes for 100 people and they were a BIG HIT. My family was so worried since neither my family or my husband's were big dessert people and they were scared we'd have a lot left over (when I say worried, it was a huge understatement - my mom was frantic) However, the cake was a huge hit - every piece was gone and many people were sad they couldn't get seconds. What a wonderful bakery. I was looking for a bakery that sells cakes that are not over sweetened like the kinds you would get at Costco or Walmart or many other American bakeries. I usually go to an asian bakery to find such cakes. But when I found this place on yelp, I decided to give it a try. I got the 8" vanilla cake and it was Divine. The cake was light and fluffy. I usually order my cakes from this bakery every time I throw birthday parties or gatherings. I never really had any complaints until today. RATING 1/10 * MOLD ON CAKE Yesterday I threw my son his 1st birthday & ordered a 1/2 sheet vanilla cake with strawberries and creme. I paid roughly around $75. My pick up time for the cake was at 11:00AM and I didn't get to the bakery until 11:30am. Everything went smoothly, I was in and out of the bakery. I arrived at the park for my son birthday party at 12:00pm and blew out the cake at 3:00 PM. When I had a slice of a cake the outer cream wasn't as bad but when I took a few bites, I notice it didn't taste "fresh" as usual. I tried not to let it bother me and I just brushed it off. Everyone at the party had a slice and mostly everyone took a slice home as well. Later on that evening my niece called me and told me that the cake had MOLD on it & for me not to eat it. I was also getting multiple texts and calls from other family members and friends that they seen mold on it and the cake didn't have any flavor! I was so EMBARRASSED because I giving out MOLDY cake to babies, kids, pregnant women's and etc, also I was so AFRAID that people were going to get SICK from the cake! I had to call 50+ people warning them not to eat the cake due to MOLD. This is so UPSETTING! I don't understand how the MOLD can grow so quickly on the cake when it was 66 degrees outside with slight of cloud and the cake was covered in a sheltered space and wasn't opened until we blew out the cake. I'm assuming that they baked this cake 2-3 days in advance because mold can grow significantly within 24 to 48 hours. It's so funny because when I called before preordering the cake the lady that took my order specifically said they bake their cakes the night before sometimes 1-2 days in advanced. I will not be ordering any bakery from this location anymore and I will continue to spread this story to my friends, family and my social media about the MOLD on the cake. This place has been our to go for bday cakes. But I just don't understand how an 8in chocolate ganache has been extremely overpriced. $44!!!! You must be on some good s**t.
