Stayed here overnight and was satisfied. Check in and check out was easy. Rooms were clean. Toiletries were from Dove and mounted on the walls. Each unit includes a small kitchenette with a sink, dishes, a full sized refrigerator, stovetop with two burners and a microwave. Beds were comfortable. Rooms had good lighting. Free Costa coffee was available 24/7 from a machine that freshly grounds it on demand. It is located in a small marketplace near the entrance where other snacks and drinks are sold. No complimentary breakfast here (as it is at all Candlewood hotels), but that is fine since the price was less expensive than similar hotels in the area that did offer breakfast. There is a fitness center here as well but I didn't get a chance to check it out. I'd stay here again if nearby. read more

I know we're in the middle of a pandemic, but come on, at least greet your guests. At that, most hotels have a minimum of two personnel at the front desk. Yet, I was calm and patient as I waited for the clerk to return to the counter for my check-in. The room was clean, and dishes provided during my stay for the week. However, I noticed that the bed was a standard and not the queen that I had booked for my visit. Still, I wasn't overly concerned, but it might be an issue for a couple that specifically requests a queen-size bed. I even looked at my confirmation email, and it read, QN, which is a queen. FYI, a Queen is larger than a Standard. Oh yeah, no shower gel either. See photo. Luckily, I brought soap with me. Nevertheless, housekeepers shouldn't be overlooking the obvious. Hard to overlook an empty bottle. Next, I was informed that Candlewood Suites doesn't offer breakfast, which is fine since the room had a stovetop. Also, I thought I saw a sign that read, NO PETS. Well, I stayed on the second floor, and some lady across from me had one Weimaraner and a spotted German Shorthaired Pointer. Definitely, not small or medium size dogs, and I guess she snuck them into the hotel, which probably isn't difficult since they only have one person on staff at the front desk. Since I am deaf, I only noticed them because they were jumping on her as soon as she opened the door to her room. I cannot tell you if they barked all night or not. Sorry, I didn't get a photo of the dogs, but most hotels will place anyone with a dog on the first floor. Finally, as I loaded up my vehicle at 3 AM, there was no clerk in view. I made three trips to the room to make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind. On a side note, Harris Teeter grocery is right around the corner from this hotel, which was a nice plus, and there is a Panda Express directly in front of the hotel in the parking lot. read more

IT'S A NO FOR ME! We stayed here rather than near downtown New Bern to save a little money. But yuck. Lobby isn't bad. Though we found no one at the desk 3 times in 3 days. They were off for smoke breaks so we had to search for them. But the room was the real reason for only 2 stars. It was dingy and old and dated and basically kinda gross. Poorly maintained. After we were there 2 days, we requested room be made up. We were told they only serviced rooms once per week. Again, kinda gross. Though you could request fresh towels. read more

We stayed there during Hurricane Dorian. Clean rooms, great little kitchenette. The staff were AMAZING, from the desk agents right up to the GM. They were gracious, CARING, and made everyone staying there feel right at home. They know the meaning of Excellent Customer Service. I cannot thank them enough for helping make a terrifying ordeal of the Hurricane less stressful. They even allowed our 2 cats due to the circumstances. We've stayed in Candlewood Suites in other states a couple of times. BUT.....from now on...it is the Suites for us, no matter where we travel. Thank you all so much. You are ALL wonderful. I enjoyed my stay here. The beds were comfortable with two types of firmness. The room was clean and it had a lot of great kitchen amenities. The location is very easy to find and around a lot of things if you are here for work. This is not a destination stay hotel. Another perk is free laundry services. Do not stay here if you expect customer service. I made a reservation for business for the same day but had to unexpectedly change plans so I cancelled the reservation 2 hours later. I was charged the full price even though the cancellation was well before check in time. I was told you have to cancel within 24 hours but explain to me how I can cancel 24hrs before my stay when it's the same day reservation. I've had to do this type of cancellation many times and I have never been charged. This particular hotel and manager seems to have a poor idea of how to keep a customer. I explained the situation completely and she called me rude and said the customer always blames the hotel. I never used foul language or called a name. Yet I'm the rude one. This is an IHG hotel and I am a member with many nights per year but I'll recommend to everyone and my company to never stay at this hotel. Extremely poor service. read more

Came here as part of a group. 2/3 rooms have weird odors. Was suppose to have 4 rooms but day of check-in (after taking the credit card info) room was not available. Would not recommend. The New Year lands me in my hometown in response to a family emergency. I have always stayed at The Candlewood Hotel over the years when I visit. This trip was a little different however I chose the Candlewood because a) it's pet friendly b) it is centrally located between my family's home, the hospital, and retail/food environments. c) The size of the rooms are comfortable and each room has a kitchenette. I don't know if I would say the that the price is cost-effective but it is competitive to other hotels in the area. Initially I met Sherry, at the front desk she was professional, welcoming and friendly. Due to the nature of my visit I extended my reservation on the next day. Sheila, was working at the front desk when I explained to her my need to keep the same room while extending my stay. Honestly, I didn't think that Sheila would be as friendly but I was wowed by her compassion and sympathetic side. When I returned back to the hotel my arms were full with a little human, bags, and food. I was trying to figure out how to get the hotel key out of my purse to open the door with everything in my hands. Out of nowhere Jonathan - who I assumed is like a supervisor or maintenance guy, came up And stuck a key inside the door to Open it and help me inside with my bags. It is small gestures like this that makes me miss living in New Bern, North Carolina. The Southern hospitality and customer service is unmatched. My stay has been very emotional everyone has been nice and accommodating. If I have to return for family reasons or just vacationing- I definitely will be staying at the candle wood suites. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here for tha two nites I waz here. Customer service is on point! All tha staff from late night to daytime is caring and attentive and they truly care that ur happy. They offer a free cookie upon check in and they have a pretty decent dvd collection for your viwing pleasure. And by tha way, there is no porn ... Tha rooms are mini suites with a fully stocked kitchin. Just bring ur food n drinks. Many residents are long term and I luv the interaction between them n staff. Relating to Covid precautions...the staff needs to be wearing masks appropriately...the housekeeper was the only person I saw who consistently wore her's correctly. Even the manager was walking around the lobby area and check-in desk with it under his chin. This hotel is sorely in need of an upgrade...in our suite we had the following... Just an ok hotel. Hotel looks like it needs an update. Door look in room broke but hotel was quick to fix it. TV doesn't have a guide so you have to flip though every channel to see what's on. No onscreen guide in 2021? Hotel snack bar is way over priced so bring you own snacks and drinks. They charge $1.00 for canned soda. Hotel business center has two computers but only one is working. Stayed at this dump recently for two nights Unfortunately it was all available in a emergency situation. My husband on vacation had emergency surgery while there and I flew to new bern to be there . Upon checking in I called immediately to front desk about the condition of bathroom the floor was disgusting dead flies and pure dirt caked in the corners of floors they did offer to come and tend to it but my husband just being released he did not want people coming in I figured they could come in the morning I put a 2nd call to front seat because the shape of the wash cloths as soon as water hit the rag it turned black disgusting dirt they definitely needed to be thrown in trashed and replaced. They brought different linens but had same issues I went and purchased our own towels . At 8 am we went down for coffee and while at 8 am someone went into our room mind you all our jewelry and my purse wide open on table And removed a bag of trash only . Not even touching the floors I went down and spoke to the owner who is a complete rude waste of space . He argued and was disrespectful in every way Not taking any responsibility for the conditions in his hotel . He said to me obviously you are looking for a discount. Which was not the case by any means I just want a clean room for the cost of it it should be clean . Unfortunately there where no other places to go and I had no choice but to suck it up at the time Honestly the guests made it nice . But as far as management they was horrible Coming from the west coast I was expecting more manners and better hospitality. On the second night of our stay my husband was bitten by a spider on his head and his arm We seen the spider in the bed and killed it within a hour these bites blistered up and itched horribly. Not sure what kind it was but even a week later he still has sores that at not healing well from these bites . What a horrible experience at this dump Beware I didn't even bring this up to the owner because he was so ignorant and I would had most likely went to jail at that point. read more

Where to start? 1. We booked a reservation here because we were moving to the area and needed a place to stay until the movers arrived with our furniture - with my cat. Upon check-in, we discovered that they are not pet friendly, just dog friendly, even though their website clearly says they allow "pets". After a phone call to the manager they decided to make an exception. Since they had already run our card we decided to stay, but that turned out to be a bad decision. 2. We woke up in the middle of the night to someone opening our door. What?!? Oh yes. They assigned our room to another person, and gave him keys. Luckily we had the room locked down so he could only open the door a few inches, but he scared us and I'm certain our reaction scared him. Seriously? Is it really too hard to figure out which rooms are currently in use? They even had to call us to ask who we were - they had no idea! 3. The next day we discovered that they deactivated our keys after the previous night's fiasco. We had to go down to the front desk to get our keys reactivated. A heads up would have been nice. 4. General complaints - no outlets by the beds for cell phone charging. This is dumb and is a basic in every hotel. Also, most extended stay hotels come by every day to refresh your towels and drop off dishwashers tabs, etc. We were told if we needed towels to bring them down to the front desk and they would exchange. In all, don't pick this place. Go to Marriott (they allow pets and are amazing) or really anywhere else. read more

While the exterior is in good shape and the parking is plentiful, there are some major issues here. The staff is very friendly with that country style hospitality and very receptive to requests or concerns. I stayed for 2 nights and found that it was very difficult to sleep anytime outside the hours of midnight to 6am. After that, the blackout curtains blocked plenty of light where they covered, but they weren't large enough to cover the entire window casing, making them a bit pointless. If you are not on the top floor you will hear every movement from the room above you. The constant creaking and stepping noises can make it difficult to sleep as well. The cleaners are in the halls all day pounding away at the walls in the other rooms as well as your door with the vacuum. The rooms themselves were well appointed with most anything you would need to be comfortable. The point of a hotel however is to give you a place to get quiet rest and shelter. This place offers the shelter but there isn't very good opportunity to get uninterrupted rest. So based on this, 1 star for good staff, 1 star for good amenities...and that's all I got. read more

The Candlewood Inn & Suites continues to disappoint. This was our 4th stay at this location in the past year as it is the only IHG option close to family. Our biggest issue was the toilet not flushing (this was also an issue on a previous stay there). We asked if we could use an empty room to allow getting ready in the morning. This was not allowed with the excuse that they were fully booked. One walk around the practicality empty parking lot and checking windows revealed this was a lie. We had no alternative but to use the lobby bathroom where housekeeping even keyed in on my husband despite him yelling that the facility was occupied when they knocked. This happened twice during our stay with no sympathy or apology from staff. Besides the recurring toilet issues, we noted the other things during our stay: torn up upholstery on the desk chair, the recliner cushions coming apart at the seams and the arm is falling off, grout in shower stained, grime under microwave vent (which apparently doesn't get cleaned), dirt and dust on hair dryer (which also doesn't seem to get cleaned), racks in the refrigerator not clean, bath towels with holes. This property consistently shows a pattern of disrepair and is a blemish on the IHG brand. Furthermore, the hotel decor is extremely dated and needs updating...the carpet, walls, furniture, cabinets, etc. all need a new look. Most importantly the bathroom needs attention...from working toilets the a walk-in shower because stepping in an out of the slick tub is precarious. read more

The hotel itself was fine - staff were pleasant, the beds were fine, bathrooms fine, etc, but I'm going to knock a star for whatever they did to our room before we checked in. We think someone cooked something (maybe they made shrimp stock in the room with extra garlic) and then housekeeping tried to cover it up with an insanely cloying kind of...cinnamon peppermint air freshener that hung in the air to the point that we could actually taste it when we walked in to the room. By leaving the window open all day long, we were able to get it to clear out (thankfully, we were checking in somewhat early and thus had time to let it air out) but it would not have been possible to sleep in there, I don't think. Zero stars. Made reservations on first week of June 2018, cancelled after 24 hrs so they charged me for one nite. The remainder of the charges left pending on my account for the rest of the week has not yet been refunded back to my account. They were rude when I asked about it and said it takes up to 20 days for the funds to go back into my account. Say what????? Then said that's the way it works. But, they took the charges for the one day charge out of my account that very same day of. This motel is right beside a major Hwy and is noisy. A lot of contractors stay there for long term stays.
