We had a great 1-night stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton in New Bern. Our room was comfortable with a great view; the staff was friendly and accommodating; the overall location of this hotel is superb! Our room overlooked the waterfront and all the local restaurants and shops were easily walkable right out of the hotel front door. There is also a great walking path along the waterfront from the back of the hotel. The breakfast buffet in the morning had a great selection of hot as well as continental buffet. Overall, if we were in New Bern again we would easily stay at this hotel. read more

This was our second stay here. The location is perfect. Beautiful views of the water and walking distance to the cute little downtown area. The hotel smells a bit musty, which could be mold. Given the location and several stone over the years, I'm not surprised. Parking is free and plentiful. read more

Had a great experience at the doubletree in newburn. The lady at the front desk, Karen was extremely nice and always very helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel! It is super easy to get to and has plenty of parking. Two pluses from the get go. Not only is it easy to find but it is very walkable. The check in process was very easy and pleasant. Warm cookies upon arrival! What a nice gesture! Our room itself had a wonderful view of the marina and river. As amother guest state the bed is incredibly comfy! Cannot stress how important this is! The room was spacious for two and had a nice workstation/coffee area. We visited the hotel bar which exceeded my expectations. We only had a few cocktails but it had an impressive selection for a hotel. The breakfast was about what you would expect but honestly all we needed. I really look forward to visiting again next time to New Bern **One single recommendation which is not a deal breaker is the lighting in the bathroom. It is blinding. I'm sure some folks appreciate this but a nice in between light would be pleasant. read more

This is the worst Doubletree hotel I've stayed at since I've been a diamond member with Hilton. I came in on a Sunday to stay through Friday and as a diamond member based on the thousands of dollars we spent at the hotel we're offered $15 per day to apply for food in the beverage or pantry. However, this location does not honor the $15 towards the pantry only at the bar and the restaurant which coincidentally the morning breakfast buffet is $15. The first room they tried to put me in had broken items, the second had brown streaks in the bed sheets and the last one had a defective shower head and toilet. Each time I flushed the toilet I was very concerned it was going to over flow, regardless if it was #1 or #2. The decor was horrible;, wallpaper falling off, tub not draining while taking a shower smells like an old mildew locker room, the luggage trolley not fitting through the door, and then the crappy reception. The first night there was nothing to apply the $15 toward, even the desserts were limited to one $9 slice of old cake. The front staff kept saying it's not our fault but I've stayed in several other locations where they would make some kid of accommodations. They kept asking if I wanted a walnut chocolate chip cookie and I told them I had allergies and would like the other one and of course they were out. I wasn't offered an alternative nor was I offered water during check in. I often don't check the ratings of the Hilton hotels but I will from now on. Hateful place and for a property that asks for over $260 per night I would have expected a lot more from Hilton. I will not return to this property in the future. read more

October 2022: We were celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary and decided to splurge on a nice hotel in New Bern. We were very disappointed, as the hotel is old and run down. The toilet seat was stained; the bathroom counters had paint or something that couldn't be wiped away. The hook at the back of the door was missing and so was the door stopper. We expected a beautiful, clean room for the price that we paid. Also, there was no microwave oven in the room (room 406). Breakfast was a disaster. No coffee (machine broken), so they had to buy a bunch from dunkin donuts. About 9am, we had to wait for food to be replenished, such as the fruit, bread, and English muffins (breakfast is served until 11am). In fact, my husband had to ask if they would be replenishing the English muffins. Why did he have to ask? The staff just stood around instead of taking the initiative to replenish everything. The toaster was old and it took forever to toast the muffins. This meant having to wait a while and the muffins didn't even brown properly. Megan, who worked the front desk, was extremely friendly and helped us choose places to eat for lunch and our anniversary dinner. The few nice things about this hotel is that all rooms face the river; free parking; and just a couple blocks from the heart of the town. Overall, we didn't get our monies worth. read more

The bed is incredibly comfy! But first let's start by saying...the ladies at the front desk are awesomely friendly! We checked in Uber early, they were accommodating and gave us a lay of the land so to speak. They were full of tips and great places to eat. They provided fresh choc chip walnut cookies and a smile. The hotel sits on the marina. We have a great view! There's a bar downstairs but we never visited it. The hotel is clean and older. So the bathroom is super tiny. The room is well appointed and maintained. Larger TV than one would expect. Theres a desk area if you must work. There's also a deck area on the marina side. We'd stay again for sure! read more

The hotel staff was most pleasant while I was checking in. I went out to eat in town and enjoyed some local food. I came back to the bar at the hotel and ordered a drink. Didn't really feel welcomed. The staff never came back to check to see if I was good. Guessing it was because I was alone at the bar. Wasn't impressed with the service. Good: beds very comfortable, room very clean. Bad: Customer service was beyond terrible. Booked 2 nights last weekend (2/16-2/18/24). Room 502 - no batteries in tv remote - very minor - they ran 2 up in 10 minutes. Toilet not attached well - made banging sound every time I sat or got up (and I'm not overweight) - a problem at night for sure. But Sat. was a disaster. Returned at 3:30 p.m. after leaving at 9:00a.m. for a day out. Hubby waited downstairs in the car as I ran up to use the toilet before we went out for a little more. Couldn't get in the room. Maid was next door and tried her key to no avail either. She informed me that the batteries were probably low, asked if anyone was in there (told her no), and assured us it'd be fixed by the time we returned. She then let me use the toilet in the room she was cleaning. We returned at 4:20 p.m. to guess what? Still locked out of our room. I asked front desk, she found maintenance while I waited there and maintenance told me that he couldn't do anything b/c they didn't know if anyone was in the room. I told them that I'd told the maid there wasn't. Then front desk woman tried to make it our fault ("sometimes if the door's slammed, the sensor reads that the bolt lock is on..."). We didn't slam the door. I asked if we could get another room, only to be told curtly, "Hotel's booked solid tonight." Followed maintenance up to room and yep - he had to replace all the batteries in the door lock. I showed him the noisy toilet and he confirmed that it "wasn't right" either (we made a video w/audio to show how bad it was). I went back to font desk and woman then said we could move rooms, but needed to tell me TWICE that now room 502 would have to be cleaned. WE were really inconveniencing THEM. She did give us another room - 532 - about as far as you can possibly get from room 502. Would have been nice for someone to ask if they could help us move all of our stuff. But no... Front desk woman assured us she'd inform the manager of the problems we had and repeatedly apologized for the terrible miscommunication. This is not an inexpensive hotel, and being locked out of our room that they didn't fix was unacceptable. read more

Stayed here for a couple nights in June. Positives - Staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was well appointed, very clean and comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds we've slept in at a hotel. Negatives - and there were only 2, the fridge in the room was very loud and vibrated against the stand it was in. We had to stuff towels around it to quiet it. The cleaning staff when cleaning rooms nearby were pretty loud, yelling back and forth , doors slamming loudly. Both not huge deals but should be rectified. All in all a solid choice, in a great location. read more

Do not recommend this hotel at all. Other than the staff there was nothing good about it. Our deadbolt on our door didn't work. No refrigerator or microwave. Free breakfast was by far subpar. If you wanted ice you had to go down to the front desk and get a ziplock bag of pre bagged ice. We where sitting out on the patio at night and cockroaches were everywhere. One even crawled up our Friends leg. Than we went back up to our room and there was some in the hallway and one on our patio. Way over priced for what you are getting. Super location! Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the harbor and matins. Easy walk to Tryon Palace and in the way walking on Saturday we stopped at a really awesome Farmers Market! Back to the hotel .... Everyone was super nice! There is a restaurant but the choices were minimal. We thought it kinda funny - we are in NC and the restaurant does not offer iced tea :) I would say again if visiting New Bern. read more

This may seem long-winded but I wanted to make sure this is known. We checked in on 9/1/2018 and it was smoking hot outside. Our original room was to be in the Inn Building. There was a problem with our AC and the room would not cool any better than 77 degrees. We're fairly young and active so this was not adequate for us. The added humidity of the shower made it miserable in the room. Long story short, we were put in another room and given an upgrade in the process to the 5th floor in the main building with a balcony overlooking the water. Despite the hassle and inconvenience, the staff here hit a grand slam in making things right. Our upgraded room was clean and comfy and the bed slept very well. We were also given a nice voucher for free dinner at Christoph's. The staff was kind and courteous all around. What could have been an uncomfortable stay turned out to be a real pleasure. We're not overly demanding people and we understand things happen. We appreciate the folks who made sure our stay was good. read more

I stopped by for a quick bite to eat. I sat in the dining room. I enjoyed the artichoke dip with chips. I'm a fan. Ordered a glass of wine Tonya, my server, suggested a bottle as I was staying for a meal as well. She let me know I could take it with me if I didn't finish it (who knew)? Great up sell. I do like my wine. I enjoyed the view and my blackened Mahi (and wine). I enjoyed Tonya's professional approach. She was very attentive without being bothersome. I travel a lot, and dine alone often. I got a little work done while enjoying a nice meal. I stayed a little longer than usual. Keep up the great work. Our recent stay at the Doubletree in New Bern was pretty good. Best part was the staff was awesome, professional and friendly. We had a balcony overlooking the River. No chairs are provided for the balcony but the staff accommodated when we inquired. The slider door was Very difficult to open even after maintenance was performed. Bathroom was very tiny, otherwise the room was fine. A large hole in the ceiling at elevators on 5th floor needs fixing. Patio area by marina also very nice and relaxing. I can't say why some people had a problem with this place. I found the staff very friendly and the rooms clean. I don't know about the other rooms but I had a balcony room on the fifth floor overlooking the river. We had a refrigerator and microwave. I enjoyed my stay and everything is within walking distance. After being on the road for a bit, I decided to book a room as close to the airport that would usher me home the next day, while still enjoying New Bern's riverfront for an evening. Apparently this hotel has two buildings -- one new, very Southern plantation style, and the other a takeover of lawd knows what; perhaps a retirement home? (The ambulance parked out front when I arrived certainly didn't help to eliminate this thought.) Granted, the interior has been upgraded to decent hotel standards, so you forget the exterior's appearance fairly quickly. I purposely booked a riverfront balcony room, all of which are located on the 5th floor, to aid in my serious need to unwind. My check-in process was super quick once the front desk was able to focus on me. (An obviously difficult patron on the phone; not their fault.) The room smelled clean, and had been adequately dusted and stocked. Being the water lover I am, I beelined it to the balcony. Unfortunately, the balcony door was exceedingly difficult to open. (I may be tiny, but I am mighty, and that door was no joke, my Yeeps.) After enjoying the beautiful harbor views for a few moments, I went back to scope out the rest the room had to offer, and snap some photos for dear Yelp. The bathroom was clean and very well upgraded, but TINY. Even for me! I decided to unpack a few items to prep for my departure scheduled for the following AM. As I tossed my bag onto the foot of the bed, something "bit" me near my ankle! It was an unprotected piece of the bed frame. Thankfully, I still had my heavy duty boots on, or that would have left a serious mark! Upon further investigation, there were two areas of the frame exposed as such. I walked to the other side of the mattress to shove it further over this mean metal craziness in hopes my lower shin wouldn't meet this frame again. After perusing downtown New Bern for a bit, I headed back to the hotel bar to grab a brew for the room. They were featuring a DJ this particular Friday night, and this little bar was a-hoppin'. I ventured back some time later to order one last beer before calling it a night. The super sweet bartender saved me from a crazy couple that had set their sights on me for a hopeful ménage à trois. Fortunately, I was able to escape to my room, alone and unscathed. Would I stay here again? Maybe. For the price, it wasn't worth it...but considering the lack of waterfront hotels in this small town, I may not have a choice. read more

So this hotel is in such a great location and we had the perfect view of the river, pool, and deck where the tiki bar is. Nothing beats that. But I notice some little things that could be improved. To start - the rooms are nice, but could be updated. Our room was small. We stayed in the older section of the hotel, so I'm not sure how the rooms are in the newer part are at the time of this review. There was no microwave in the room. The fridge was tiny and froze everything I put in it. The ac/heat unit was super loud and needs to be updated. The beds were comfy but the pillows were lumpy and hard. I couldn't find any vending machines, but there was a very small selection of snacks and drinks by the front desk. If you want snacks then bring your own. As far as I could tell the ice machine must've not been working because there was a freezer in the snack area that had bags of ice. (I could be wrong about the ice machines, but there definitely was a freezer with bags of ice for guests). The shower/tub was small. The bathroom was small. There wasn't a large counter area to put makeup on and the one floor length mirror in the room was in the entry area that had very low, dim lighting. The room was very clean though. The bathroom was especially clean. There was a large desk and office chair. Plenty of good lighting in the room except for the entry area. Overall I'm willing to overlook the small things because the room had such an amazing view, the hotel offered a pool, nice fitness area, on site restaurant, on site nice bar/lounge area, and the deck area often has live music. And there was a free continental breakfast which I didn't even know about until after we checked in, so that was a nice plus. The breakfast featured the usual items: coffee, juice, milk, cereal, toast, eggs, sausage, and an assortment of muffins and danishes. This review is based on one of the older rooms in the main section of the hotel. Many years ago I stayed in the newer section and if remember correctly, that room was much more modern and updated. So the only thing I suggest is to bring your own snacks and your own pillow ... and be prepared for a noisy ac unit. read more

REVIEW UPDATE: So earlier I'd written a somewhat scathing review of my experience thus far at Hilton New Bern (our hot water wasn't working and I had to request that we be moved to another part of the hotel where the hot water was indeed working). However, I'd like to recant my earlier statement that the hotel doesn't care about its guests: they have gone above and beyond to make sure that the remainder of my stay is comfortable and on par with the reputation of the Hilton franchise. They sent a complimentary plate of meats, cheese, veggies, and 2 yummy lagers (one of which I am enjoying now - ha), in an effort to set everything right. Just don't do it. This place is beat up, tired and is doing the Hilton brand a huge injustice. I booked the DoubleTree thinking it'd be the best hotel in the area, but nope. The Marriott I stayed in a few months ago was 10x better. First off let me just say this has nothing to do with the front desk, they're awesome and just working with what they have. This is just a case of pathetic franchise management. We got here and our room (and lobby/halls) was disgusting. Seriously someone needs to quality assure their cleaning team. Wiping down molding, doors, shower heads, goes a looooong way. The hall floors were covered with cookie crumbs and dirt. The room was so bad and reeked of some unknown smell, that we asked for another room. I'm 40 years old and have stayed in 2-5 star places and that was maybe the second time I've ever asked for another room. When we got to the other room, you could tell it was an upgrade, but it was still gross AF (as proof by my pics). Chips in the bathtub, headboard falling apart, scuffs on the wall, etc. This is not what I'd expect of a Hilton, but hey, maybe Hiltons are just going down hill (sorry Paris). Don't stay here. Go to the courtyard Marriott instead. read more

I'm not really sure what to think of this place. It seems to have a lot of potential, but is falling short. The location is right on the water which is pretty neat. They also offer a mangers reception on Tuesday nights for invited members. My issue with this place was the cleanliness of my room. As soon as I walked into the bedroom it looked like a bobcat used it as a scratching post. Then after it got done with the headboard, it moved to the carpet. When I took a shower I noticed how dirty it looked. It's like they did a renovation on the hotel and stopped when they reached the shower. All of the staff were very nice and helpful. read more

This has to be one of the worst Hilton stays I have experienced. It has a super small TV two full beds that are old and squeak, head boards on both beds seem like they have been over used. Elevator seems like it is on its last leg. The hotel room door does not close unless you slam it shut. The staff was very nice and friendly no complaints there. read more

This is the first Hilton hotel that has disappointed me and I have stayed at many. I had booked for 5 nights and I checked out after one night, in order to change hotel. This is a business trip and they have lost my future bookings until they have taken care of their issues. The hotel needs a lot of TLC. It is poorly maintained. My guest room lacked fridge, curtains and the sink was cracked. The room was overall dirty and worn. The king bed was the softest I have experienced. Outside in the parking lot I find that two light post are out so 50% of the parking lot is pitch black. This is a safety concern for sure. Some of the staff wear hoodies which is not a professional attire for a Hilton hotel. The breakfast buffet also need a lot of improvement. read more

I won't stay here again. The newly renovated hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. But when you stay in a Hilton, you expect to be able to watch network television, CBS, NBC, ABC. This hotel's contract with their cable provider doesn't include those channels! Additionally, the housing for the airconditioner/heater rattled annoyingly. This is an OK hotel with a great staff and a pretty good breakfast. The room is left something to be desired in terms of upkeep and decor. Lots of maintenance issues a statically as well as functionally in the hotel. Water pressure was kind of low things like that. It was pretty expensive in the area for what there was to offer as well. The doc view was pretty cool. Not so much worth it though. I guess if you had a boat on the water or have time to take advantage of charter. read more

I loved it here! Our room was in the Inn Building which was great! You get really large rooms in that building and a great view of the river. The Inn building is a nice southern classic style will fountains and columns. The rooms exit to an open atrium. The grounds are nicely kept and are directly connected to the marina. The Inn building is closest to the Craven County Convention center which was extremely convenient for me. I litterally walked 1 minute to an event at the Convention Center next door. BEWARE THE TINY CAMERAS!!!!! On 9/25, I stayed in room 355 which is overlooking the water in the historic buiding 2 of the Doubletree. I had tossed my suitcase on the desk, which is front of the TV (which I never turn on when I travel) and I had just pulled out some things to change into when I noticed this tiny device glued to the front of the TV with a cord that wrapped around to the back side of it. I took a closer look at it and realized with horror that it was a camera! I have heard of this happening and I travel 2-4 nights a week and have never personally experienced it until now. I am an Airline Pilot. I spend most of my life in hotels, so I am very much in tune with what I expect from a hotel. This hotel, like most Doubletrees I have stayed at fail to deliver. We arrive after a 12 hour stressful day (only to call the hotel to request a ride.......even though they know our flight schedule, and choose to wait until we call......most hotels are there waiting) and even though we have a pre-arranged contract, our keys are not ready. Half the time we do not even get a cookie (the literal moniker of the this hotel). They put us in a seperate building far away from the main hotel with substandard air conditioning. I have lived in New Bern for over 14 years. It is 95 and humid all summer long. Every time we stay here, the room is 85 degrees plus when we arrive, and will NOT cool down. There is a mechanical problem with the air conditioning in the easternmost building of this hotel that they refuse to admit, and/or fix! Room 263 is particularly bad. Every time I bring up the problem, it is met with the usual Doubletree logic......far too many managers and figure heads apologizing, and pretending to fix the problem, and very little resolution to the actual problem. Btw, only half the light fixtures in the room actually worked, which falls in line with my poor experience with Doubletree hotels........lots of flashy "storefront", but all the utilities, and fixtures are of poor quality, and their maintenance is horrible! Summary: Great Location but a very run down hotel with generally incompetent guest service.. We would not return On a recent family vacation to the North Carolina Atlantic Coast, New Bern was our last stop before undertaking a 2 day road trip back to Kansas City. I had for the past 10-years been a Hilton Honors Diamond level guest so I have seen many of Hilton's properties around the world. I have learned that Doubletree can be hit or miss. It seems that when a Hilton hotel goes out of style, they change the name to Doubletree and renovate. In the case of the hotel in New Bern, they must have skipped the renovation. They certainly don't staff with Hilton quality people. On this trip, I had chosen to cash in some of the 400,000 HHonors points that I had accumulated during my years of being a road warrior. Beach and waterfront hotels tend to be expensive. In this case, I intended to use a combination of points and cash. We checked in late on a Friday afternoon. The staff was friendly. There was a huge parking lot in front of the hotel that made for convenient movement of our suitcases. The first problem occurred when we learned that one of the two elevators was out of service. We waited 10 minutes in lineup to finally get our luggage cart and bodies onto the remaining elevator. We entered the room and discovered problem 2: The room was in terrible shape. Paint was peeling from the walls and the ceiling had big cracks in it, The bathtub was peeling, The faucets were loose. There was dark mold around the tub. There were also chunks of plaster missing and the emergency exit sign was detached from the door. Not a good first impression. Then we ran into problem 3: There were three of us: my wife and I and our 10-year old daughter. We usually book a room with 2 queen size beds or a suite. The room had double beds and little space for a roll away. Somehow I missed that detail when I made the reservation. I called the front desk to see about a room change but they told me that the hotel was fully booked. I was told they could roll in a bed but I had to sign a waiver because the extra bed violated the fire code. I agreed. Housekeeping came in with a bed and we moved the main beds together to make room. Next we opened the cabinet which normally contains a fridge to move some of our cold drinks from the cooler. There was no fridge. Doubletree hotels generally have fridges. The space was empty. We thought about staying in the hotel for dinner and enjoying the harbor view. But the restaurant was offering a buffet that night. It smelled wonderful but upon closer inspection looked like industrial feed. We decided to go out. We departed for dinner and upon returning, we were once again expecting to wait for the elevator. But problem 4 prevented that because now BOTH elevators were out of service. Somebody would be called in the morning. So up 3 flights of stairs we trudged. What else could go wrong here? The beds could go wrong. Both beds were worn out with big sags in the mattress. laying on one of them you needed to use a pillow to prevent rolling out onto the floor. When morning came, both my wife and I had painful backs. That would be a good start for a 1200 mile road trip. Then there were more plumbing/bathroom problems. The toilet ran all night but we simply closed the door to douse the noise. In the morning, the shower wouldn't engage. We had to hold the shower valve in order for the shower to work. And that gross tub wouldn't drain. Yuck. ! The blow dryer looked like it had been dragged behind a car. It was scratched up full of hair that burned when it heated and just gross to use. The hinges on the door, valve on the toilet and other metal trim was rusted. And get this: housekeeping places the "clean" drinking glasses lip down directly on the dirty sink top. No napkin or coaster under it. The sink picks up all the airborne e-coli that flies out of the toilet when it flushes. I'd hate to see the flouroscan on that sink and the glass! That beautiful scene on the river was hard to take in because the window hadn't been washed in eons. I had had enough. Upon checkout I asked for the general manager. That person was off on the weekend. I asked for the duty manager. That person didn't come in until 9 AM. So the poor woman at the desk got my rant. She zeroed out my bill and we checked out. This was not the kind of experience that I expect from a HIlton property. It was certainly not the kind of room that I expected after having spent over 500 nights in Hilton hotels. When looking for a baggage cart on Saturday morning, I noticed that the floor above us were for HHonors guests. I wonder if they are any better maintained. Funny, we couldn't find the baggage carts - but there was a bell boy on hand... We carried our own bags and made several trips. Bottom line. The good: - Staff is friendly, service is prompt and competent, very pleasant, professional people - The location is excellent, a short walk to the main drag and restaurants - The mattress was very comfortable - Ample parking The Bad - I like rooms with windows that allow fresh air to enter, rather than these sealed cells - The water pressure makes the shower almost unusable - Cracked basin, noticeably old and worn fittings - Cracked floor tiles in the elevator and elsewhere, just signs everywhere of age - The elevator is ancient, one almost wants to offer verbal encouragement ("Come on, you can do it!") - Temperamental door locks, never once opened the first time, eventually failed utterly - No microwave oven in room - AC is loud. LOUD! In general this is an old, run down hotel perhaps 10 years overdue for comprehensive refurbishment. It's not the dirt of poor maintenance, it's the dirt of just being too old. Providing a warm cookie at check-in is no compensation for a place that's falling apart (I pity the maintenance people), nor are superficial enhancements like a curved shower rail fitted over an ancient bath. Apart from the employees who are noticeably excellent, this hotel is a poor refection on the Hilton brand and I can't imagine I'd stay here again. read more

At first glance it looks nice on the outside and the interior lobby and rooms are nice but customer service isn't as nice as other locations. The real surprise is when we were sitting in the conference room next to Christophe restaurant me and my colleagues were under siege from roaches, one big enough to cover a half dollar. I am shocked that with my Hilton Honors at a discounted rate of $225 per night I had to stay in a discusting room. The bathroom tub had been resurfaced years ago and was pealing and yellow. The caulking around the tub was yellowish brown...just sucking. The carpet was torn, the bed looked ok but was broken down. If I could give a negative score I would. I would never recommend this place or stay here again. I am surprised that Hilton would attach their name to the place. Keep driving and find another hotel, don't stay here. read more
