However, I was a bit disappointed but not too much as prices were decent depending on what you get. We got the chicken laksa, Nasi goreng, Mongolian chicken, and kuih lapis. Chicken laksa is the ideal order as the soup is decent and the pricing is fair. It is not the best as the soup didn't carry much flavor and the noodles were a bit on the softer side. It was filling however. Nasi goreng is solid. The vegetables felt frozen reheated and wilted, but at least the cucumbers were fresh. The amount of shrimp, squid, and fish cakes was dismal. Flavor profile is good. The Mongolian chicken is okay. It's not fried as the batter is quite soft. It is saucy which my friends were craving. I enjoyed the flavor profile of this one though. The dessert is good. Kuih Lapis is a colorful dessert so it appealed to me in both taste and presentation. One red flag I noticed is that I heard beep after beep of microwave sounds. It's as if all the dishes they prepared well in advance and just reheat for us, plus they walled off the kitchen and the back completely, giving the impression that they want to hide something. Most renowned places won't hide the back like that, as you can at least take a peek of what's cooking behind the scenes in most places. Service is good as they refill complimentary tea throughout our dining experience. Pay at the front for the bill.

Perfect French toast and not too sweet. Also had the avocado eggs benedict which was a decent portion size and came with potatoes. We were informed we could sit anywhere outside. By the pleasant server. We were given the menu and perused what we wanted. I ordered grandma's clam chowder which comes served in a sour dough bun hollowed out. I also ordered waffles with fried chicken. Wifey got the sweet and salty which was French toast with soft poached egg/hollandaise. The waffle I ordered also came with a soft poached egg/hollandaise. For beverages I got a regular coffee and wifey got a lavender latte. The plating was absolutely beautiful for the dishes. My first bite of the waffles and chicken was delightful. The chicken was moist and seasoned well and the waffle was nice and soft. There also was a salad on top which was dressed in a sweet dressing. That was standard as greens go. The clam chowder had a decent amount of large clams in it, the texture and creaminess was good. I did feel the base or soup stock used was a tad light for my liking as I wasn't catching the essence of clam chowder flavor. Other wise it was ok. But filling it you intend to eat the whole bun which I did cuz I love sourdough bread. Wife's french toast was lovely, I had a small taste and to me it was good. Nothing mind blowing but decently good. The hollandaise used to be tasted buttery and legit. The meal on a whole was very good and we love the patio seating. Would definitely come back again.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

Unfortunately it wasn't executed well. Pork was under marinated, there was no tamarind taste, nor a hint of chili on it. What could have been a very tasty Thai dish turned out to be mediocre and disappointing. Presentation was nice and appealing though. Server is very nice and friendly. Ambiance is appealing. Nice to be on a sunny morning. Glass panels lets in bright sunshine making it a perfect brunch spot.

It helped that the staff was very cheerful and earnest and apologetic when cutlery was forgotten. Pretty good service over all. I saw there were more lunch special options which were not on their website menu. This was pasted on the walls. I decided to get the grilled saba set as this was not a common bento set in many places. Unfortunately the saba did not seem very fresh. I could smell the fishiness once it arrived. The flesh was not tender but a bit rubbery, and it was not crisp enough. Quite a disappointment. The rest of the dishes were fine. The gyozas were very nicely done with a crispy outside and juicy filling. It was not oily too. The salad was very fresh with a light dressing. Maybe the sushi and sashimi would have been a better option. I will still come here to try other stuff in future.

It was easy to find, as there were already a few people waiting to place their order. It also helped that the delicious smell travelled like the wind around that area! Before we got there, we decided on which pizza to order to save time. When it was our turn, we were greeted by a young friendly lady at the cashier. We ordered the Water pizza ($37- which has shrimp, real crabmeat and basil pesto). Then she let us know that it will take 15-20 minutes to make it, so we can either relax in the dine-in area (located beside it) or walk around and come back then. We thought it would be a great idea to relax in the dine-in area, but as soon as we entered, it was too hot. There were not any windows that one could open nor any fans available to make the area feel cooler, so we left and walked around. When the time was up, I went to pick up the order and my friend looked for a bench where we could sit and eat. Finally, we sat down and ate a few slices- both of us agreed that it was delicious. The sauce and the toppings were fresh and generous, so we agreed that the high price point was fair. The only part which we didn't like was how thin the base was- it could not hold the sauce and the toppings very well, so we had to hold each slice well (otherwise, we lose everything on the slice). For the next few days, each of us ate them for our lunch and they were still delicious. If you are visiting Steveston, drop by and try their pizza!
