We left our dog with them for a 1 week in June. He is reactive so he had a thunder jacket on. We can only assume they left it on him the whole week. In June. In 90 degree weather. When we picked him up and removed the thunder jacket in the car, we saw this rash. Brought him in and Bruce kind of just blew it off as a heat rash and put Neosporin on it. A week later it was worse and our dog was throwing up, brought our dog to Urgent care and they took a sample of the bumps. Sent it to the lab. And came back positive for staff infection and e-coli. Will never ever bring our dog or future dogs here again, and will never recommend Canine College again. read more

Beware!! From 6/17-6/25/2021, I boarded my 1 year old Golden Retriever for her first time for a week at Canine College and Bow Wow Resort in Holbrook. I have known the owners and have been training my dogs there for 30+ years. I trusted them to take care of my dog while I was away. I payed extra for daily playtime and walks for a total of $480.00. Upon picking her up to come home, my happy beautiful Shelby was lethargic and had trouble walking. The kennel worker handed her leash to me and said nothing. When my dog turned around, I saw that ALL OF THE FEATHERING ON HER TAIL AND LEGS WAS GONE, right down to her skin!! Her feathering was 16 inches long on her tail and hind quarters. I couldn't believe my eyes! I was livid, thinking that they cut her hair off! When I asked the kennel worker who cut my dog's hair, she nonchalantly said, "No one cut her hair, she chewed it off. Some dogs just have a nervous tick." No one said a word to inform me of this before they brought Shelby out to me. No one addressed the problem. I got no notification that there was an issue. For her to chew that much of her hair off, it had to have taken several days. Where she was supposed to have had playtime and private leash walks every day, this should have been addressed immediately upon first sight of the problem. They could have easily put a cone on her to prevent the behavior. When she got home, she was lethargic and could barely walk! Looking at her feet, they were red, raw, and oozy. She had fly bites in both ears, and her neck and face were covered with cuts and scabs. When I got her home, I called the vet immediately. After a $400.00 vet bill, she was diagnosed with 4 infected pawpads and neglect, with the treatment of a steroid shot, cleansing pads, and 2 rounds of antibiotics. As soon as I got her home from Canine College, I called there to speak with the owners about the terrible condition Shelby had come home in. I asked for a return call as soon aspossible. Four days later, I got a return call. The owners knew nothing of what happened to my dog during her stay with them. I did not get a single apology from anyone at Canine College for the mistreatment of my beautiful Golden Retriever. This whole thing could have been very easily avoided if my dog was checked on and cared for properly. A cone would have avoided further chewing. If I was notified, I would have had someone remove her from the neglect and abuse she endured while in the care of Canine College and Bow Wow Resort. read more

We first left our dog there last year for two weeks for the resident training while we were on vacation and were amazed at what a great place it was and how well they did training her. We loved the fact that she got to play with other dogs all day and learned her new behaviors with so many distrations. We have since left her an addition two times while we were away and are scheduled for a third! read more

If I could give this place negative 100 stars I would. First the place is dirty and the staff is rude and disorganized. My dog was so dehydrated when I picked him up and his genital area was swollen. He was acting like a dog that had endured a lot of trauma. God knows what they did to him in this place. NEVER going there again. This place should be closed down. read more

Note: I have a B.S. in Veterinary Technology and understand concepts such as animal behavior, different training methods, and behavior modification techniques - I needed help putting this information into action from a professional, hence why I brought my dog here in the first place. Extremely disappointed with the experience here with my newly rescued dog. When I dropped him off for the 2 week residency training program I explained that I was looking for training with modern, humane techniques and was assured that those were the methods used here. I started to doubt my decision to leave my dog here when I made calls to see how he was doing - the staff gave short, although polite, replies without any details regarding his training progress. When I came back 1 week later for a training session/update, my dog was brought into the training room with a pinch collar on - something I never agreed to and specifically said I did not want used on him. The trainer became defensive, claimed that I never made this request, and that I did not know what I was talking about. I mentioned that I wanted to use a front-clip harness to discourage pulling on the leash for now and he went on to criticize me, claiming that harnesses are "no good" and that I don't have the ability to control my dog with a harness or even martingale (from here on out he became increasingly condescending, constantly claiming that he knew what he was doing and that I have the wrong mindset for what dog training is, etc.) Disappointed but hoping for some kind of positive outcome, we continued with the "lesson" and I asked him about any progress regarding meeting other dogs politely (my dog barks at others but is not aggressive). The trainer decided to bring in a few dogs and show me how to "control" mine around others by harshly pulling on the leash for a "correction" and then loosening the leash - again, not the method I was looking to use. Later on he brought in his own dog and had her meet mine (she was off-leash while he had mine on a leash). When things started to escalate he stated that he "won't be mad if he bit her" but soon after looped the leash in his hand and threatened to "hit your dog if he bites mine." What Kind of trainer threatens to hit a dog in any way, shape or form?? Extremely angered, I decided to take my dog home. Another thing - I noticed when I first saw him that he looked a little thin but assumed that he was simply running around and exercising on their multiple acres of land. I dropped him off with 6 bags of food - one bag only had enough for about 3 days. AFTER 1 WEEK, ONLY 1 BAG OF FOOD WAS USED. I gave them feeding instructions including how much/often he ate but I'm assuming they had no record of that as well. I also requested they bathe him and remove any ticks on him as he just got new flea/tick preventative and it didn't quite kick in yet before I brought him in - he smelled ok, but I brought him home with 2 ticks! Great! I'm not here to attack the training methods he uses - many people use pinch collars but that's just not the method I want to use to train my dog. I respect these training methods but as a business, they should have respected my decisions and requests as a dog owner. My dog came home without learning anything (as I suspected). I would discourage any and all from bringing their dogs here, and will look for another trainer elsewhere. *I also would not be surprised if this trainer tries to retaliate to this review in any way! read more

Canine College is absolutely the BEST! My 4year old dog initially attended the 2 week resident training program as a crash course refresher. The improvements made in this 2week period were amazing. In addition the wonderful trainers helped teach me how to be more effective with my dog on a day to day basis. After seeing what a difference this program made i decided to continue her training at Canine College, and now go back every couple weeks. I am beyond impressed with Canine College and the variety of training packages and services they offer. I highly recommend educating your dog and yourself here. read more

We've been taking our zuchon here for grooming since he was a few months old. He is now about a year and a half. We trust canine college to groom his half shihtzu half bichon frise locks. The staff are super friendly and always do a great job. We drop off our little guy and when we pick him up, he is happy, clean, handsomely trimmed, and smells nice and fresh too! I love when they put a bandana on him but it doesn't always happen every time. The land is a sight to see too. We love seeing the goats and donkeys on our way to the office. read more

I would never board my dogs there again. I just picked up my two golden retrievers after the long weekend. This was the first time using them. I usually use Elja Kennel in Marshfield and the Inn at Old Derby in Hingham which are very good but were booked up for the weekend. So I tried Canine College/Bow Wow Kennel. I tried them because I had a good experience with Bruce in private training. I thought perhaps his boarding facility would be good as well. I was very wrong. After picking them up this morning, I had to bring one of them to the vet right after. His paws and the webbing in his feet were cut up and infected. His eyes were nearly swollen shut. Vet said he had an infection and is on antibiotics now. The gravel used is large and sharp in the pen areas and likely the culprit for the paw infection. Other kennels use gravel as well, but smaller round ones. In addition, when I asked the attendant how my dogs did, she was rude to me and abrupt. Gave me no info as to how they did other than their paws were sore....... I spent a little over $300 to board them for four days and $250 at the vet. I would not recommend this kennel. I dropped off my healthy dogs and picked up injured ones. read more

I used to love this place. I have been taking my Zuchon there for daycare and boarding for over a year and things were going well. Then at the beginning of this year, they started hiring college kids who basically have no training and don't care for your pets... I recently boarded my dog there for a week and when I got back, he was vomiting a couple times a day and was having diarrhea with blood coming out as well. When I picked up my dog, no one mentioned anything to me about this. They said he was FINE when he was there. Oh really? The dog just committed out of the blue? I took him to the vet immediately and was told it most likely started before that day. If you want your dog be alive don't go there. read more

If you love your dog and care about him/her, do NOT take her/him to Canine College. The dogs are kept in a small fanced place in a cold room. The space is 1 meter by 1 meter with at least 5 dogs inside sharing it. They are not able to move at all but just turning around. They are not given the chance to get their energy out being closed there for the whole day like prisoners. The staff is very rude and bad with communicating with the customers. We had no idea how our dog was doing there throughout the day. When we asked few times we never received answer besides "We take them out to pee". When I asked if they spend the day just locked like that, the staff confirmed. I was shocked!!! Speechless left the "dog day care". Please think about your furry best friend before considering taking it there. read more

This place came highly recommended to me so I decided to try it. I brought my dog to get shaved, washed, nails cut, teeth brushed. They did such an awesome job with Artie. He looked so handsome and smelled really good. Artie even loved it there. Then I boarded him there for two days and they were so good to him. Artie had a blast with the staff and other dogs. I really like how well canine college accommodates Artie's needs ... Even if I call that day. Artie hates leaving this place but i keep telling him that he will be back for his weekly baths. Falsely claimed Scooby bit one of them.. then it turned into a bruise not a bite and then when the rescue came to pick him up it was claimed to be a bit again and he was so vicious he should be euthanized. But we had a real trainer evaluate him and she found he was very sweet and loved people. He passed his eval with flying colors other than lacking social skills with other dogs. They also said he could not leave without being muzzled but then were too scared to put one on him. No problem - he was busy finding his friends and greeting and kissing him. But Amanda jerked him so hard on the leash he was gagging and struggling to breathe and Erica shoved him forcefully into the truck. I hear Amanda and Erica call themselves trainers? They have no business even getting near a dog. No dog should be treated like Scooby was yesterday and I wonder how badly they treated him during his stay. And how many dogs have they lied about and claimed are aggressive and should be euthanized? How many dogs have they have killed? read more

The staff at Canine College love dogs and made me feel at ease leaving my dog with them for several business trips. After a while he would get excited when we would pull up the drive way to get dropped off. They also helped me with his behavioral issues and overall made life less stressful and made it so I could enjoy my dog! They also took great care of my cat and gave her such loving attention as well. I will always board my pets here for vacations and business trips going forward. read more

I boarded our dog there once, never again. The staff was very rude and inattentive. There were too few staff members around for the number of dogs being boarded. I only saw one staff member around when I dropped my dog off and one when I picked her up. The biggest issue I had with this place is when my dog got home she vomited up her food for a few days and panicked whenever we drove her in the general direction of the boarding facility. When I picked her up the rather unfriendly staffer who was working at the time did not alert me that our dog had been sick or had any issues during her 5 days of boarding. I'm guessing she either didn't know or didn't care. This was not the first time my dog has been boarded and she has never come home sick or frightened of a boarding facility before. Fortunately, my dog came home without any scratches or problems other than the vomiting. She did have a lot of energy when she came home, more than she typically has after being boarded. I'm guessing either the playtime was shorter than they told me or they didn't take her on the walks that I paid for. I strongly recommend you use a different boarding facility. The grounds are very nice and the kennels were clean, however, based on my experience this is just not a good place to board your pet. read more

Honestly wanted to give this location a good review but after an incident and no call back from the owners I am beyond disappointed. My dog was injured during the 2 hour evaluation he had to see if he was a good fit for daycare almost a month ago. Now in the 2 hours he was there to see his interaction with the other dogs you would think they were watching him. When I went to pick him up his nose was bleeding. I asked how he was injured. They told me that they didn't know but they thought it might have been on the fence. After a couple hours my dogs nose started swelling and the vet suggested I brought him in. She told me she thought it was a puncture from another dogs tooth and he ended up on antibiotics and antihistamines for 7 days. When I called to inform the owner of what the vet said and tell them how much it costs the girl on the phone told me they would call me back and most likely cover the cost of the vet bill. Almost a month later and several failed attempts to get in touch with the owner I am stuck with this vet bill I had to settle due to their negligence. Someone should have been watching my dog and this whole issue should have been avoided. Not sure why they would have me bring him there for a 2 hour evaluation to just lock him in a kennel with other dogs and not watch him. read more

Bruce, the owner, gave me some amazing basics to handle him while leash walking him around other dogs, and Amanda helped me fine tune my handling skills while around other dogs - in just two private lessons. My dog was playing with a few of their resident dogs at the end of the 2nd session - something I would have never imagined possible. EVER. If you are working with a difficult dog, take them here. They help train you to train your dog in a caring and positive way. Plus, they always have farm fresh eggs, chickens, turkeys, hens, ducks and goats for sale. We boarded our sweet pittie for five days, while we were on vacation. We called everyday to check up on him, sent a nice care bag with toys, extra food and treats. The day we picked him up, he was limping and could barely walk. According to the care giver the rocks and pebbles irritated his front paws. I washed him as soon as we got home because he was very dirty. His paws were red and he refused to walk, in order to go outside and relieve himself. He was shaking almost like the experience was traumatic for him. $200.00 later, a sick dog and they were unable to locate his dog bed and blanket for three days. To add insult to injury, we paid them extra to walk our dog everyday. How was he walked, when his paws were in excruciating pain? I called twice to voice my concern and no one has gotten back to me. They will NEVER ever see my dog again or get my business. read more

We took our Great Dane puppy here for obedience training. It was a 5 week group training program at night and I cannot express how grateful we are. We liked it so much that we continued on from Kindergarten to Elementary 1 and 2. I was amazed at how well he responded to us. He completed tasks like jumping over poles and staying at attention even when we left the room. He clearly respects us now and listens to us which allows for a much better relationship. My dog he is 1 year old pit bull has been there for one week now - behavior training - he has sometimes very selective hearing ;( In one week my baby can walk next to me without trying to take his collar off by walking backwards also he will stay for over 30 seconds which he has never done before. He is still a happy boy wagging his tail.... His behavior went from a naughty not listening boy to a well behaved young man. Bruce spend one hour with us showing what my baby has learnt and most of the commands are in German. ( I started it that way and Bruce helped him stay that way ) I am curious what else he will learn when I pick him up in one week. I compare it with boot camp for misbehaved teenagers.......so far so good my baby is on the right way to become a good role model for any pit bull. Will write another review after I pick him up. I had high hopes for my dog when attending their 2 week resident training. We got a call 10 days after we left him there and we were told he had bloody diarrhea and they were taking him to the vet, we agreed, When we went to pick him up 4 days later he was emaciated. He had lost a total of 12 lbs. You could see his ribs and spine. Their response to us was don't freak out but he lost a little weight. I was in tears, he is only 9 months old and was in terrible physical condition. The woman behind the desk said he lost the weight because of all his activity. Also they had no information as to why he had diarrhea or what the result of the fecal exam was. This was total BS, there is no reason for such a dramatic weight loss in a growing puppy. Why did they not increase his food (which we took to them with plenty left over) He was completely lethargic for 2 days. We took our dog to our vet 3 day after we picked him up, who was appalled by his condition. he had gained nearly 6 lbs and we only fed him his normal amount of food. Our dog seemed traumatized by whatever they did to him there. And to add insult to injury, he is no better trained than he was when we took him there. We definitely did not get what we paid for. We got back a dog that was no longer his happy self and still not trained. We will be taking him elsewhere for training. read more

My mom was bringing her dog here for a few weeks, mostly without issue. When she went to pick him up yesterday she noticed that he had been bathed, which they had NEVER done before. She asked the girl, Amanda, why she had bathed him to which she vaguely replied that she "was bored". When my mom got him home she noticed he had several large puncture wounds around his neck and he was bleeding, bleeding enough to drip onto the floor. She called the Canine College to find out what happened, after several unsuccessful attempts to get anyone on the phone, to which the girl said nothing happened. Understandably, dogs will get into a scuffle, the problem is that she denied having any knowledge about what happened, yet she bathed him...? If he was bleeding enough to drip onto the floor, you'd think she'd have noticed? Advertised as SUPERVISED doggie daycare, that's debatable. They wouldn't say which dog got into the fight with our dog, so he needed to be put on antibiotics and get a new rabies shot. read more

I used to take my dog here quite a while ago for training. He was a large dog and my husband was afraid of him. I wanted a professional to show my husband how to act around the dog and how to get comfortable with him. The trainer was very aggressive with the poor dog. The worst part was when he, the trainer, tried shoving him bodily into a small cage. The dog was amazing, did not bite him, only tried to take the leash from his hand with his teeth. The trainer never got him into the cage. I was impressed with how nonviolent my dog was in the end. If someone tried to do to me what the trainer was trying to do to the dog, I would have bitten his hand off, no joke. Doing what he did to another human would have been considered straight up assault. I don't think the trainers here have any formal training other than just being around dogs and knowing how to bully them. They don't teach, they just intimidate and force. I don't know, it's just not what I was expecting. It made me extremely depressed and my husband even more scared of dogs. I ended up having to give my poor baby away because after seeing the physical fight between the dog and trainer my husband's fear became straight terror. That's all, the end of the story. I think there are better places out there for you and your dog. Good luck. read more

This was not a good experience at all. We've been through training with another puppy many years ago at a different location and had an excellent experience. We brought our two, 5.5 month old puppies here for basic obedience training. We walked the puppies in a circle for just about all of the sessions. The trainer rarely explained why we were doing certain activities and commands, which IMHO is a cornerstone of effective training. She was rough with our dogs and there was very little positive reinforcement. We're now taking basic obedience again at the MSPCA and couldn't be happier with the training. Don't waste your money or time at CC. read more

Snoop is my first dog I have ever had and they always give good tips and advice on questions I may have. We have brought our dog here for several months. At first we were happy with the fun environment, then did puppy classes. Robyn, the part owner and trainer, has some inconsistencies with her approach and her training. Everything is "give them high quality treats" in every instance. When we kept our dog there for day care, we were pushed occasionally to continue "training classes". Our dog came home a few times with puncture wounds, unexplained and not reported by the staff. When we pointed this out, we got an apology, but no explanation. Then, we were told shortly after, our dog "bite another dog". Yet, all the times we were told this, our dog had open cuts and lesions that he did not have when we dropped him off. The final straw came when Robyn told us "he bit another dog again today". When I tried to discuss this, and explained that our dog was timid around other dogs and I was worried to hear this, Robyn interrupted me, and raised her voice at me stating, "You said this before, he is a total bully, he is not timid and he jumped on the other dog!" I removed myself and my dog immediately and shut the door in her face. I will never again recommend this place and I am saddened that I left my dog with an abusive lunatic for so long. read more

We were looking for a dog training program that wasn't too strict or too relaxed- somewhere in between. This place balances "positive training" with discipline and our trainer has a great understanding of animal behavior and psyche. She has an effect on dogs that demonstrates her knowledge. We started bringing our 7 month old cardigan welsh corgi to class only three weeks ago (out of five) and have seen major improvement. He used to tug on the leash and bark insanely at other dogs. In just these three weeks he has (almost) completely stopped. The program trains the dog but it also trains the owner. I have learned how to communicate with my dog by developing a number of basic, yet consistent and clear commands that he now understands well. I hope to continue with training. They also offer agility training, boarding, day care and more. Great place tucked in the back woods with great people! read more
