April was able to squeeze my little Yorkie in today for a bath/brush/hair cut and did an amazing job. She asked what I wanted and made sure to do just that. She also made sure I was happy with the cut before leaving. This was my first time bringing my yorkie here and we will definitely be back each month. I took my 2 year old 10lb Klee Kai for a, groom, nails, anal glands "the works" and I said that the dog can be very dramatic and vocal (howls like a wolf, it's a miniature Siberian husky) I knew going in the chances of everything going perfect was close to zero but what is an owner to do right? the staff stayed in phone contact with me letting me know what had been done and that they could not get him out of the drying kennel wIthout our help. I looked at my husband sadly and told him they tried the best they could but that a haircut was probably not happening. We drive to the place promptly and we can hear him from outside barking. embarrassed, we walk in, the dog sees us and immediately starts to calm down. we are at this point feeling defeated and ready to take him home... then the groomer says "he's calmed down I can give it a try if you guys want, if a new York groomer can't do it no one can" I said of course and twenty minutes later the dog looks amazing! I Was holding him while the groomer did his magic. No words or stars on this site can truly display the gratitude this family has for this establishment and one thing is undeniable. they truly love their job because no one else would have given our anxiety prone puppy a second chance. he looks amazing for fathers day, THANK YOU ! ! *there were two guys that helped us, no female in sight read more

great place! my mom has taken all of our dogs here and now i bring mine! he is a handful, he's extremely hyper so I'm grateful they're able to cut his hair. they always take him in early around 8 so he's finished around 11am or noon. everyone says he looks great after a haircut, he smells amazing and the little ribbon they tie around him after is a great touch. read more

I would have given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for my recent visit. I've taken my dog here before and everything was perfect so I decided to take him there again. But this time, there's a new lady employee. First, she forgot to pluck my dog's ear. Second, the clippings were uneven. And most importantly, she knicked my dog TWICE while grooming him. I took my dog here and won't be back. Which is unfortunate because they were so nice and my dog looked wonderful after his cut. But the day I took him home I noticed his anus was very red and swollen, and he was very irritated with it. Within a couple days he had a very swollen anal gland, something he's never had a problem with. Unfortunately his gland turned into an abscess and burst, costing me $600 of vet bills for them to sedate him and lance it, antibiotics, pain medications, follow ups, ect. And then it took 2 months for it to finally heal. 2 months of my dog miserable and the vet said it was because they were too rough with his glands and probably tried to force it to express. After this happened, I happened to be talking to other people at dog parks only to find that several other people had to stop taking their dogs their because they were too rough on the dogs and caused injury. Now all I can think of is the lady groomer's long nails and and how rough she must have been with my dogs anal glands. Don't go here if you love your dog and want a gentle groomer. read more

I never thought to review the Canine Image guys, until recently. We've been taking our dog there for 7 years. She always comes home clean and she stays cleaner than when we wash her ourselves. They do the nails, anal gland, ears, wash and dry. They've never raised their price on me. They groom my cat too. He is a long haired fat boy, and they help keep his underside and backside clean, which he is grateful for. My mother and father in-law bring their Shih-tzu for a groom when they are visiting from Michigan. A hidden gem, these two guys. I would recommend them to any one. read more

This is the best groomer in San Diego. I have taken my dogs here over the past 20 some years. I have had dogs with good personalities and one very difficult. They did them all with gentleness and patience. They are the best. My dogs balk at the vets but never here, they jump out of car and head right in, they even go into the crate while they wait. They do great cuts and have great prices - 5 dollars for nail trims! Our cocker gets a military cut and looks adorable when she leaves and our Doberman lets them do his nails. I'm a bit of a last minute Lucy and usually call the same day and they almost always squeeze us in. Best of all the guys are hilarious! These guys and gal are the best. They are so friendly and the Hunter my Golden Retriever comes out very clean and smells great. They really love dogs here and it shows. The price is good and very reasonable for all the work they do. They do the nails, pads, trim the hair, his anal glands get cleaned out, wash a dry his coat and then brush him a few times on top of that. It's nice to not get killed with itemized charges and Steve seems to say hell do whatever needs to be done for the dog to be kept nice, clean and maintained. I highly recommend Canine Image. I have been bringing my dogs to these guys for over 18 years. They are awesome and know their craft. They have been through one death with me of one of my dogs and I think they cried as much as I did! They are now helping me get through another very senior dog and have helped with his care and comfort in this latter part of my dog's life. I can't properly articulate how great the staff at Canine Image is. They are so adorable and go above and beyond the call of duty. They took our two crazy dogs off our hands so we could move into a new house with only one days notice. The puppies came back looking adorable, as always, and they even cleaned out our grumpy deaf old man's ears which is quite the feat (he gets snippy when it comes to his ears and the last groomer we took him to claimed it impossible.) Last visit I was much more pleased than this visit. Her tail wasn't cut, she is extremely patchy and it's not as short as I wanted. I'm not sure if I had the same person both times, but after this visit I unfortunately don't know if I will be returning. I am actually going through myself and cutting all of the long pieces that were left behind. I don't like to be the one to complain and the people are so extremely friendly and caring at this grooming salon, but I'm just not happy with the finished product. :( read more

I took my dog there once a number of years ago, for convenience. The owners were unfriendly on the phone and when I arrived with my dog. They grabbed her from me, put her on a stainless steel table, and asked me to leave. I was nervous to leave, as I could tell she was scared, and they weren't doing anything to comfort her. My gut told me to take her with me. When they called me to pick her up, they said she was bad. I don't recall the specifics. She may have tried to bite them, and if so, I don't blame her. She's 11 yrs. old now, never had an issue with a groomer or vet before or since. They shaved very close to one of her eyes. The reason I'm posting this review years later is that a former neighbor of mine posted on FB how the groomers didn't want to take her dogs because they were "bad", but agreed to make the appointment. I realized right away it must be the same place. I hope she didn't take them. After reading some other Yelp reviews, and also being told by my neighbor she was also "asked" to leave when dropping her dogs (for me, it was more like being shamed and commanded to leave, they said "She'll be better when you leave, you're making it worse" - uh, yeah, because my dog is terrified of the way you're handling her...). I was nervous the whole time she wss there and couldn't wait to pick her up. Fortunately it was only a couple of hours, since she was "bad". They just wanted their money. I felt uncomfortable and humiliated even. I have no idea how anyone can call this place "friendly". Maybe if your dogs have been going there forever and they like you & your dogs. Though my neighbor said she has been going there a long time, and they still complained about her dogs & she said her dogs seem nervous to go there now. I'm very alarmed by the reviews I'm reading, not just about the rudeness of the owner, but the rushing owners out, doors aren't open during the day, phone isn't answered, similar experiences to mine, and one recently saw a dog being slapped during it's bath (see 03.17.19). This place needs to be investigated for animal cruelty. And shut down. read more
