Came for lunch. Service was friendly and fast, it was really slow for a friday (customer wise), I was surprised. Lunch menu isn't that big but I was torn between a burger and the fried green tomato blt. I love fried green tomatoes and bacon! House made bacon too!! This used to be Finn and Porter, expensive seafood and steak restaurant that was beautifully designed but the food was meh. Lunch arrived quick and the give these house made BBQ chips that are really really good. I could just sit at the bar, drink beer and eat bowls of them. Excellent spice and texture. My sandwich was ok (thats why not 5 stars). It was tasty, but the bread was way too grainy. A nice artisan white based bread would have been perfect. The fried green tomatoes on the sandwich were ice cold and totally lost me. I've had many a FGT BLT and they have always been warm or hot and its so darn good. The house bacon was dry and small, but a little tasty and the pulled turkey was very fresh, soft and chilled well. My wife enjoyed her grilled chicken sandwich and her side salad had a nice light lemony dressing. Nothing amazing to bring us back for now, except those chips! It's a restaurant located in the Hilton, you pay for 12.00 parking for 10 hours down the street, however, there's not much in that area besides food. The server gave one cocktail menu for the two of us which was really annoying. I ordered the cappuccino which came back 99.999999% cold milk, I sent it back and got a whiskey and Coke. The chicken fried waffles were good, but nothing that is a stand out from the others I've had. We sat at a table for 2 with green chairs. The problem was the table bottom won't let you get close to the table and you have to sit with your feet apart, I was wearing a dress so had to sit like Kate Middleton, super uncomfortable. Very sad to give a poor rating. I'm sure it was a one off case but just for feedback. It was a really poor experience, very expensive. Christmas dinner $64 per person, while that was understandable for a nice experience, it's way too much for a subpar dinner. Many of the chaffing dishes were empty, many over cooked. The desserts were almost gone. We arrived one hour before they closed so I'm sure some of this was due to their closing time being near. Overall it was very disappointing. Nice server and we definitely liked the roast beef. That was nice. read more

Finally, a five star restaurant in Austin!! I ordered the bread and honey butter, shrimp and grits and the Austin Ice drink for dessert. Everything was great. I went after work and there was no one there. I hear they get busy later. But it was amazing! Best bread and butter I think I've ever had. Food is ok. Service is horrible. We came in for a busy lunch (ran down from our conference at the Hilton) and the server was not good. I think her name was Kelsey. She didn't tell me that a soup would be extra on my order which I didn't find out until I got the bill which wasn't itemized so we had to ask. The soup typically has pancetta on it and she said it would be vegetarian if I didn't get it with pancetta so I did. I took a few spoon fulls and then found a piece of pancetta/bacon in it. When we told her she said I promise there's no bacon in it. I showed it to her and all she could say was that I told them not to. I'll get you a new one. The new one came and it was fine. No real apology. In the end, I am sorry it was unexpectedly busy but I expect more from a Hilton, especially such a nice one. I haven't ever not left a tip, this was my first time. read more

I came by here recently for lunch after hearing about ya'll from a friend. The food was great, but i don't sit down to write yelp reviews about good food. Samantha was my waitress when i came by and I just wanted to let ya'll know how great she was. it was recommended that i get the salmon (which was perfectly cooked) and gave me a few other suggestions in case i wanted to come back for dinner. She went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable while i was there and was able to make the morning not seem so bad. She even let me know about some concerts going on in the area after i mentioned a band i just went to see. We went here for New Year's Eve, and I had high hopes because the menu sounded so delicious! The ambience was on key as well as the location downtown. The food presentation was beautiful, but unfortunately the taste wasn't so great. I got the "Bird" pizza, which my waiter told me was the best of all their pizzas. It tasted like a weird kind of BBQ pizza, and they burnt the crust, so it was pretty dry. My boyfriend got the Shrimp and Grits, which ended up tasting eh. There are some good ideas going on here, I just think they need to amp up the flavors. However, if you want to just come here for drinks and don't mind handing over a little extra, their drinks are great! I got their version of a Moscow mule and loved it. They also have pretty cool and experimental drink specials their bar tenders create each week, which I really liked. Overall, I liked the place, but not sure if I'd come back. read more

This spot was really cute and would be a great spot for just some drinks. I was with a big group and they were able to accommodate for a Sunday brunch. I got the Texas Hash and it was not very good. The meat was over cooked and most pieces were half fat pieces. The coffee was pretty solid but I also grabbed mimosas. The orange juice had pulp in it which I didn't know. That was not pleasant. The service was pretty slow and there restaurant was half empty. Also three things to note. You can't get alcohol or chicken and waffles before 11. The breakfast buffet also wraps up around 11am. I tried my friends bacon and that was amazing. My friend did love the chicken and waffles. read more

Went into C+B after several recommendations from friends and family and I'm VERY happy I did. The food we ordered was all recommended by our waitress and was far beyond amazing. On top of excellent food and service, the bartender and hostess were incredibly friendly and helpful, as well. We were served delicious, affordable drinks, recommended fun things to do around town, and were simply surrounded by genuinely kind people who work in a cool atmosphere with quality food and drinks. I was staying at the Hilton and went here a couple of times. I guess I expected more for a place in the Hilton. The service was good but the food was a little disappointing. I had the burger and it was just sort of average and was very messy to eat. As I recall it was served with chips which left a lot to be desired. On another occasion I had the cream cheese brownie. It sounded really good but after getting it, the flavor was just a little disappointing. It comes with a scoop of ice cream and letting the ice cream melt into the brownie did help. The breakfast thought was really really good. Get the buffet. The food on the buffet is actually pretty good and there is a made to order omelette station. I would return for the breakfast but probably pass on it for dinner. read more

Great atmosphere, sat me right away. I ordered the Texas Brisket Hash for breakfast and it was just a hodgepodge of tuff meat, over cooked potatoes, and two bland and still wet poached eggs. Waiter was nice enough to fix it for me but you may want to think twice about that breakfast dish. Better off getting the buffet. I got excited when I read the menu thinking I would get a few slices of moist brisket that I could break the eggs over and let the brisket soak up the yolk. Well my family and I were excited to go here, and I really wanted to like the place - it's a very nicely appointed space in the Hilton Hotel, and the menu pairings appeared interesting. For those that don't want to read further - we waited 1.25 hours for our main course to arrive. If I have piqued your interest ... read on!! We went for the Prix Fixe Christmas dinner menu where you could choose between 3 or 4 courses. Reservations were required. We were seated promptly and courteously. We got our drinks (well mostly - I had ordered a cocktail from the bar that never arrived) and asked questions about the menu options, we had one vegetarian with us, which is curious in a place such as Austin that nothing vegan was offered on the Prix Fixe menu. The waiter assured us that a vegetarian selection would be provided, along with a brief description. We made our selections and I thought we were off to a great start... This is where the debacle started. Or what will now be referred to by my family is "The Year without a Santa Dinner" (giving a salute to those familiar with the Rankin/Bass Christmas specials). We received the first 2 courses, as anticipated (a couple of us had the Matzo Biscuit, and couple of us had the Deviled Eggs, while these items were interesting and tasty they were not exceptional). Now Folks this is where we thought we had slipped into a space time continuum, the minutes ticked by, (1 little, 2 little 3 little reindeer......) 30, 40, 60 minutes - with no one ever coming to the table to check on us, or give us a status of where Course #3 was? Our server came over and remarked "Gee I feel like it's taking a really long time for your entrees"... (but did nothing to inquire of the status). Finally I flagged what seemed to be a manager down and informed her we had waited over an hour between courses. (keep in mind the place was not full either) Interestingly enough I had been observing the line up in the kitchen - this is where it seems the chef was taken off the line and put into one of the service prep lines and the managers took over the final prep stations?? (Whatt???) - regardless after we had already lost the desire to go on our entrees showed up as follows: 1.) Vegetarian pasta dish - warm and tasty 2.) Turkey dinner - tepid, and uninteresting, unappealing and less than appetizing 3.) Pork - palatable but had diminutive sides 4.) Rib-eye that I had ordered medium well - that was tough, tasteless and very disappointing -- although there was no way to recover from waiting greater than 1.25 hours. The only redeeming quality was that we were given a 25% discount on all our meals which I felt was the bare minimum given our interminable wait. I wont be back here. read more

My husband and I went here for our Christmas dinner and their fixed price menu. The conversation with our waitress went as such. Me: "I'd like the soup, the ribeye and the dessert please". Server: "we are out of the soup. And the short ribeye" Me: "any other soup i could have?" Server "no". I just wish she had been a little more solution oriented. Maybe a different salad since clearly I did not want the one present it as my sole option. Maybe a suggestion on something close to the steak. Maybe the suggestion that I should do an entire menu instead of the fixed-price courses. But instead she just stared emptily into space. The food itself would have wanted four stars. It was definitely above average. It would also be nice if somewhere on their website or in their voicemail it indicated they were in the Hilton. There could have been many expletives saved in us driving around the block repeatedly. Current scaffolding and construction block the view of the restaurant from the street level. This place has horrible service, after I ordered my drink it took over 10 minutes for bartender to take my order on a Sunday. It wasn't packed. After placing my order of and app and a pizza 35 minutes went by and still no food. At minute 37 they delivered both and since I am eating alone one was going to get cold. Another minute goes by and I have yet to even take a bit of either a manager comes up to me and asked if I wanted to to box any of the food. So No I haven't even taken a bit and told her why does it take over 35 minutes to serve and app and a pizza at same time. No reason was given just sorry. Didn't eat a thing. If place wasn't in Hotel I wouldn't have even tried it. Go to Moonshine down the street way better food and completely better service. read more

I came in to Cannon + Belle over the Christmas break as I had heard the food was exceptional and many places around town were closed. Having been a chef for the past 15 years - I strive to locate the best of the best whether it be big name places or small hole in the wall spots. Christmas Eve the space was busy but there was room to join at the bar and have a meal. I was greeted by the bartender Andy who offered me a water upon my arrival and a beautiful tanned leather menu. When I asked if the kitchen had all items available - I was surprised that they were running with a full menu. Andy gave me a variety of options - asking if I preferred chicken, beef, seafood and so on. With his help, I was able to select a perfectly season half a chicken breast with the seasonal vegetable which happened to be broccolini with a side of risotto. We also started with an appetizer of oven pretzels with several dipping sides. From the food to the amazing drinks (I had a lemon vodka Moscow mule).... andy was amazing. Everything was amazing. I highly recommend this spot for a romantic date or a foodie and I cannot wait to go back. Be sure to ask for Andy to take care of you! read more

Super impressed with cannon + belle. I have to say that the entire redesign of the Hilton downtown gets 5 stars. It is a completely renovated space and this restaurant fits in perfect. The prices are actually pretty decent given that it is a downtown hotel restaurant and the food really makes it worth it. The star of the show was the crusted snapper but honestly everything we tried was great. Make sure to stop by and try it out. read more

Previously I had always gone to the liberty tavern while in Austin but now that the hilton has remodeled the cannon and belle is my new spot. Mary is one of the bartenders and she is awesome, Josh is another awesome bartender and both of them make fantastic drinks. I didn't realize they have a whole craft cocktail bar where they can mix up some real wild drinks, I'll have to check that out next time I'm in town. I don't understand the great reviews. Went for brunch on Sunday and found the entire experience underwhelming. Plus, I felt like we were fooled the whole time with what we were expecting to receive, and what actually came out of the kitchen. Examples: Avocado toast- we literally laughed when it came out. It was dry bread with tomato slices and a REALLY thin layer of avocado spread across the bread. Basically it was tomato toast they charged us $9 for. Also felt like this with the huevos rancheros. It really wasn't mexican style - they give you pita bread to dip in the skillet, which consisted of what tasted like tomato sauce. Pretty bland. Only good thing was the apple pie pancakes. Service was quite slow and the food was nothing to write home about. There are certainly better brunch places in Austin! read more
