We had an outstanding dining experience at Canoe in Greenwich. Every dish we tried was excellent from start to finish. The calamari was perfectly fried. Light, crispy, and not greasy at all. The fried peppers added a wonderful kick that complemented it beautifully. The wild cod was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was absolutely outstanding. We also enjoyed the day boat sea scallops, which were imported from Japan and incredibly fresh and delicious. The risotto that accompanied them was exceptionally well balanced. The skirt steak and fries were fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, while the fries were crisp and satisfying. We also loved the Taiwanese tea it was milky and aromatic. To finish we had the pistachio cheesecake and the chocolate mousse. Both desserts were beautifully executed and not overly sweet, which we really appreciated. The cream was especially light and fluffy. Honestly, everything we had was excellent. The quality of the ingredients, the cooking, and the attention to balance and flavor were impressive throughout the meal. The servers were very polite and attentive. Canoe is definitely a restaurant we'll be returning to and highly recommend to anyone dining in Greenwich. read more

The ambiance was absolutely wonderful as we got to seat outside on a most comfortable, charming and relaxing balcony where the service was absolutely outstanding. The waiter patiently assisted us in making what was the most perfect and most delicious menu and wine selection and in fact gave us a wine sampling before we actually ordered. We were never rushed. Prices were fair. Portions were plentiful and both our selections, which was sea bass for me and mahi tuna for my husband were prepared mouth watering deliciously. Nice looking little restaurant near the train station with plenty of parking on a weekend. The crab cakes were very good. The fish special was beautifully prepared. The service was attentive. We all enjoyed our food. The reason for 4 stars: they use mostly farmed fish in the seafood dishes including swai in the fish and chips and tilapia in the tacos. I live walking distance from this place and go by it every day. After my two friends and I voted, we decided to grab a drink before we returned home. Canoe is small with about 10 tables and a very long bar that seats many. Very stylish decor, and warm atmosphere, but the biggest hit besides my burger was Natasha. I don't remember the last time I felt so welcome. She is so gentle in her voice and extremely polite. She made sure that my friends and I had a great time. We had a few appetizers, the calamari was great. My burger was delicious. My husband joined us later and tried a lobster roll. He said the flavor was great, but at the price point it was very small. I am definitely returning on some Thursdays when Natasha is at the bar for happy hour. What a great find today for lunch. I rarely have off on a Monday and so few restaurants are open it was nice to find a place not far from home. Weather was hot and humid so looking for outdoor dining was not a factor but a lobster roll was. My search for "lobster rolls" in Greenwich yielded Canoe. Reviews looked good, a quick call to confirm they were open and off we went. They are located in a small group of stores with a very large parking lot. Aside from a few tables out front they have a nice patio on the side of the restaurant which was hidden from the entrance view and the table we sat at inside. Too bad it wasn't a cooler day as it would have been lovely to sit outside under the pergola. Next time. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by Louis who was our waiter and bartender. We sat at the one high top tucked in the corner with the window behind us. It was a good place to be to video where I didn't feel the "oh soo" watchful eyes of those dining that don't partake in food blogging. There is a large bar with 14 chairs and about 11 or 12 tables in this cozy well light and nicely decorated restaurant. From the special lunch menu, we order lobster shooters. A tempura piece of lobster submerged in an Asian motif shot glass filled with lobster bisque and a drop of chili oil. That lobster bisque was velvety smooth and I image if heaven had a taste this would be it...superb. Louis instructed us to eat the lobster then slowly as it was warm drink the soup. WOW just outstanding. All other lobster bisques will be compared to this one going forward. In addition to the shooters we also ordered from the regular lunch menu the Copps Island Oysters on the half shell. A very nice thick horseradish'y cocktail sauce accompanied the oysters. Large meaty oysters nicely shucked with a slight briny yet smooth taste. Just how we like them. For entrees I ordered the lobster roll with a mixed green salad instead of fries. My husband had the Peking duck taco's after Louis confirmed it was a good choice. He told us it was one of their best sellers. I'll get back to the lobster roll because I have to rave about the Peking duck. I don't eat duck, well almost never but something told me I'd like this. Two come to an order although Louis said we can add a third. We added the third which I split with my husband. Crispy slices of duck with thin strips of scallions and hoisin sauce served in a soft flour tortilla with a spicy enhanced Gochujang sauce on the side. Talk about delicious. The duck was flavorful without the extra side sauce but I'm EXTRA so why not try it. I couldn't help myself it was so damn good I added it in my lobster roll. At first when my plate was brought to me I was a little surprised as the lobster was served in a regular size hot dog bun. Nothing special about the bun and on the small side as lobster roll buns go. BUT it was packed with plenty of juicy lobster chunks so in the end that is what counts. The side greens were lightly dressed in a house vinaigrette which I enjoyed. A Bloody Mary for him and a coconut mojito for me keep us hydrated during the meal. Both were good and Louis did not skimp on the alcohol. I'd rather have been at the beach any chance I get in the summer. Since the day wasn't a beach day my other enjoyment is dining out. Calamari was delicious and so was the Alfredo. However, the duck tacos were atrocious. Some of the worst tacos I've had, just way too sweet. Even with lime, salt and hot sauce they were awful. Do NOT GET THE DUCK TACOS! The service was nice, a friendly waiter and quick food. The ambiance was pretty bad, scaffolding all around the restaurant and the front entrance almost completely hidden. We had a really good experience here. It wasn't busy (Saturday 1pm). The kids had fish and chips and chicken strips and fries... no complaints there. My wife had the pancakes and eggs off the brunch which was good and I had the seafood risotto which was also really good. The mimosa was good and the "ring of fire"- Bloody Mary was great; it was definitely spicy and a good start for a lunch/brunch. Came here for brunch on Sunday and was easily able to make a reservation for 3 1.5 hours before eating. We sat inside - cute ambiance and good temperature. There is an outdoor space as well which looked like it could handle 15-20 people. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict which was great. Eggs were cooked well. It's fine. Went there for lunch and had a few things including the foie gras and peking duck tacos. Foie gras was mostly flavorless and the tacos were just ok. We went out for New Year's Day lunch, and didn't want a run-of-the-mill joint, and saw this place. My wife chose the lobster roll at the advice of a patron going out, and I tried the house hamburger. The lobster roll was among the best she'd ever had (a CT girl, and knew her lobster rolls), and the burger was delicious, perfectly cooked and served with the best French fries we've tasted for a long time. We were able to make a reservation for 2 at the bar on Saturday night after coming back from the city. When we walked in we were greeted by the manager who brought us to our seats, and the bartender Louis took care of us for the evening. Really wonderful service!! The food was DELICIOUS! Loved the innovative twists on each dish. The lobster shooters were like a lobster bisque served in sake cups, but the lobster was tempura style which was a nice touch. All the dishes were well made, nicely presented, and fairly priced. Not pictured: tuna tartar Good ambiance, even at the bar. It's a pretty small restaurant (less than 20 tables) which lends itself to be a bit more intimate. When we ordered desert my partner asked Louis if he could put a candle in the cheesecake and he brought it out with a candle and Happy Birthday written on the plate. He also took a picture of us together! Overall great service, great food, and great vibe. Canoe makes for a nice night out - we will definitely be returning! This spot is off the "beaten path" of the "Greenwich area". But people know about it. It was a hot spot! It's in a little strip mall type of spot. With plenty of street parking. They had outdoor dining as well. A nice bar area. We were immediately seated for our reservation. The service was excellent! Food even better!! Tried this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night. For appetizers we had crispy tuna rice and lobster shooters. Both were delicious. For mains, we had crispy duck-- delicious; yellow fin tuna-- tasty but could have used a side of rice; seafood risotto-- good not great. Service was a bit chaotic and the food took a while and the noise level was high. That being said, the staff and owners were very nice and friendly. Snagged a Saturday evening reservation and Canoe did not disappoint. I can't get the lobster shooters appetizer off my mind- flavorful and just fun. We enjoyed the grilled octopus, squid ink pasta (w lobster and truffle champagne butter), Chilean sea bass, and bourbon street cocktail. For dessert, the heavenly monkey bread is a must-try and the carrot cake wasn't Lloyd's, but very good. Its worth mentioning that they offer small and large options for the entrees; wish more places did that. Hard to find many reviews yet, but those I saw complained about the volume. It IS loud during prime times, but I actually was into the energetic vibe & ambiance, and we carried on conversation with no issues. It's both good for a family (hello kids menu & sanitizer on each table) & a date night. Service took a little long, but it was packed & prime time, and we were checked on often. Much better than expected! Very neighborhood-y spot where they seemed to know everyone. Peking Duck tacos were very good. Salmon tacos had very generous portions of salmon, but I didn't love them. Good, but not amazing. It's great that you can get smaller portions so you can try more things. The small seafood risotto and squid ink pasta were also really good. Nice pieces of seafood and the truffle was just right. The pistachio cheesecake was okay, but not really a cheesecake. Desserts on other tables definitely looked better. We came here for brunch on a rainy Sunday afternoon as a party of 4. We had a reservation because we heard they get pretty busy but it was pretty empty inside. They have both inside and outside dining but we of course chose to sit inside. Including us there were 3 groups there while we were ordering and the service was SO slow. It took over 30 minutes for our food to come out which was super frustrating given that the other 2 groups were already served. We ordered the goat cheese wontons (delicious), crispy chicken wrap (not very crispy but overall it was fine) and a side of truffle fries (really good!), Peking duck tacos (so good and crispy) with a side of Mac n cheese (pretty good), salmon tacos (I heard good things), and kitchen sink omelette (looked burnt to me but I also heard good things). The salmon tacos were supposed to come with a side of fries or salad and didn't come out with one. So we asked and the guy was a little frustrating about it. Perfect place to have brunch on a rainy afternoon. The atmosphere is lighthearted, no noise at all and welcoming from the moment you walk in and greeted by the hostess.  We opted not to do the covered outdoor patio pergola although it looked, welcoming and cozy it was a bit chilly for a September fall afternoon.  Many restaurants have come and gone at this location, but perhaps it's because of the spicy fish tacos. Word on the street it is one of the best for fish tacos and  I'm a taco snob. I try them at every restaurant they offer that I can find.  What's also a gem is the parking lot-which is huge compared to the average around town. I have had many a frightful moments trying to navigate my way out of a crowded restaurant lot without swerving too close to someone's bumper and spilling my yummy take home goodie bag. A few friends and I sat at the bar which was fun and the boys at a cozy table nearby and I couldn't wait to try something new.                                        My husband was feeling daring and ordered the Peking duck after Louis our waiter said he tried it too. He told us it was one of their most popular dishes.  I always like to ask the waitstaff if they've eaten at the establishment they work at because who better to recommend than the people serving you and spending a few moments to get to know you?  The food came out hot and mouth watering! I loved the spicy fish tacos and hands down have to say they are the best I've eaten. Not sure what their secret sauce is but will have to ask my neighbor if she can wiggle the recipe from the owner, just for fun! It had a hint or cilantro possibly I'm guessing lemongrass. I tried a piece of my husband's duck and it was crispy on the outside and cooked to perfection. I've never had duck before, and this was delightful.   I would definitely order it for myself next time.  I asked the waiter what kind of sauce it was and he said it was called Gochujang. It is a Korean condiment, a thick paste made from dried red Chilli flakes. It has such a beautiful bold red color. I read that it gets its sweetness from its fermentation process which actually takes place over several years. Again, where can I buy a bottle of this to go, please? For all lovers of spices, next to the Caribbean Jerk seasoning this was one of those knock your socks off kind of spice. Not too hot that you can't enjoy the dish, but enough of a perfect mix of the salty and sweet to make you fall in love. YUM. The boys were stuffed and watching a football game, so the rest of us ordered coconut mojito for fun. The glasses were brought out chilled and made to perfection. I've been eating here fairly regularly for months. Tonight I met my future daughter-in-law to talk about wedding plans. We were having a perfectly nice dinner until Rose our waitress (and she told us the manager ) told us that the table was booked for 7:30....Sorry? Not even an apology....She claimed that since I had arrived 10 minutes early that that is when the Open Table "clock" starts ticking and you have a table for 1 hr. 25 min??? Why wouldn't I sit at the table to wait.? And since our reservation was at 6:30 there is no way Open Table would have booked it for 7:30. It made no sense. This is my all time favorite Restaurant in Greenwich. No let me rephrase that. My favorite Restaurant in Ct. we always sit at the Bar. The Bartender is always sweet and very helpful.
