What shocked me about this place was the bagels. They had this cinnamon honey bagel spread which was OUT OF THE WORLD. Our server helped us picking up the spread and very grateful for that. Cute little coffee shop in a quaint college campus. read more

We were in the area for the weekend and got coffee at Canopy and the Roots before heading out. The space is very whimsical and fun. There is plenty of seating inside as well as outside on a small patio. I ordered an Americano and it was good. The location is a great spot on downtown Dahlonega. If we had more time, I would have loved to try their yoga or comedy club. read more

Coffee Shop No. 474 Canopy + the Roots Coffee Dalhonega, GA March 10, 2025 Canopy + the Roots Coffee gave me the impression that community is their focus. It looks like a typical coffee shop with bright natural light, plants in the window (which I think were fake), and fantastic coffee. When you start to explore a bit you learn the shop has so much more to offer like yoga classes, live music, comedy shows, and merchandise from local artists. The barista was sweet too. University of North Georgia is right around the corner so I imagine Canopy + Roots Coffee is a second home to many of them. The cortado was placed in ceramic cup with no handles; kinda like a bowl. It cradled perfectly in my hand. It was served a little on the cool side, but it was my favorite cortado in Dahlonega. Enjoying life one cortado at a time! read more

Although the place was closed when I came to get a coffee and do some homework and I'm not sure if this was the owner or manager or an employee. But they let me sit on their patio and use their wifi while I did my homework. She even went as far to bring cushions, chairs and an umbrella to protect us from the sun. The kindness really touched my heart and although I didn't get to try their coffee, their hospitality towards us was 100/10. So really recommend just to feel the kindness they have!!! read more

I rescued a Saint Bernard 3 months ago, and to celebrate 3 months and how well he's been doing in training, I decided to take him waterfall chasing in north Ga. (I didn't want to hit any trails with him until he'd been able to fully decompress and listened to me relatively consistently). On our way home, I wanted to try a new coffee shop. Canopy is super cute and-most importantly-dog friendly! I could take my Saint inside as I ordered a honey lavender iced latte and a fresh baked muffin. Service was incredibly friendly and patient. There's parallel parking on the street, and it's right off the square so lots to do in walking distance. Great little place that I hope to visit again next time I'm in the area. read more

Delicious coffee, relaxing ambience and great service! We tried different types of coffee and teas in this amazing spot and everyone loved it. I wanted to like it, the place was cute. The coffee was just awful, we ended up dumping it and finding another coffee shop. I'm the baked goods aren't great either, like they are leftovers from the day prior. I should have trusted my gut that this isn't all tradition coffee shop so they aren't into perfecting the craft, it is more of an offering for those there for the music or yoga. Sorry read more

I never leave reviews but this place was just unfortunate cause it has such potential. It's like they are not equipped to make someone a coffee and were super confused the whole time. I waited 10 minutes with no one in front of me. Get a proper person who is experienced in coffee and this place will do amazing. read more

We love local coffee shops. Canopy was a nice welcome to our last day in North Georgia. It was 35 degrees out so a hot cup of coffee was perfect. This place is amazing! The atmosphere is so relaxing and the details are incredible!!! I love how the down stairs is the Roots and the main floor is the canopy! There are lots of syrup flavors and plenty to choice from. The little items you can buy next to the coffee bar are so cute but are a bit pricey. My latte was delicious and the espresso was not bitter, rather smooth. The ratio of milk and syrup was perfect. Not too sweet and not too much milk. The only critique is the staff comes off as snobby and like there is a huge rush to order. Not sure if that was their intention. The young lady that crafted our coffee orders was so kind and professional. The espresso that I had was great and the Peanut Butter and Chocolate latte that my wife ordered was perfect! They had an impromptu comedy show going on downstairs that sounded like a riot and had we had more time we would have stayed. Tried this place again today and the same result with terrible coffee and "baristas" who don't know how to make a Cortado property. These are collage kids making the coffee and they just don't know what they are doing. Such a bummer for a cool spot and location. If you don't understand how to properly make coffee then go here because you won't know the difference. read more

We came through Dahlonega this past weekend and planned to head to Jethro's for a cup of coffee but they were closed so we happened upon Canopy. The ambiance and service was pretty good. They have a nice front porch to sit on! My wife ordered a seasonal cinnamon chai which was delicious. I order a vanilla latte and could not finish it. The espresso was pulled extremely quick and tasted completely burnt and several weeks old. Sadly, this is not the place for a proper cup of coffee. The drip is probably just fine. Also, it was incredibly off-putting to be asked by the cashier "what kind of tip would you like to leave? You don't have to leave one." I'm used to the machine asking for a tip everywhere but to be asked by the cashier did not feel hospitable or welcoming. Not a big fan of everywhere asking for tips anyways but this felt unusually unwelcomed. read more

Coffee is great! For sure! Service is undependeble (no one was at the counter for like more than 5 minutes and a patron had to go find the girl from downstairs, I read other complaints about similar things) but she was very cordial. Give it a try! It's so worth the try. 5 stars if they get a little more serious about service but not a visit killer. I will come back for more :) read more

Came on a Sunday morning only to find a sorry were closed sign at 11 am. Said they'd be back at 2 pm...so we left to go about our day. Came back around 3 pm and the barista seemed overwhelmed and confused. There was only one other party in the cafe. She really couldn't answer our questions as to why they only serve their lattes with oat milk. We waited about 10 mins for two lattes. Mediocre at best. The ambience was nice I suppose...update: my husband couldn't finish his coffee he dumped it out. read more

Found this charming, adorable coffee shop on a weekend road trip through Dahlonega and stopped in for an afternoon pick-me-up. The salted caramel latte is seriously one of the best coffee drinks I have had in my life thus far. I am also obsessed with the aesthetic inside. I wish this place were closer to where I live because I would absolutely love to study here. We stopped into Canopy and Roots over the weekend while passing through town. First glance - this place is adorable! The outdoor seating is awesome and indoor decor is really something special with lots of hanging plants. The atmosphere really does match the name of the business. My oat milk lavender latte was very satisfying and reasonably priced. My boyfriend enjoyed his drip coffee. The coffee menu isn't too big, which can be both a good or bad thing. The baked goods come from a local business called Homespun baking Company. This business also has live music events and yoga. I cant wait to come back for a yoga class sometime. read more

Okay, so this is by far my favorite coffee place on the square. I have been going here since my freshman year of college when I moved up here. The atmosphere is so fun, and the coffee is amazing. The workers are also very kind. But, I give this place a 3 star because of the management. Given how much I love this place, I tried to apply for a job. The manager emailed me back multiple times talking about job opportunities and then all of a sudden just ghosted me out of no where and has not replied to any of the emails I have sent in the past week and a half. Now, I understand not wanting to hire someone, but I feel like a place with good management would voice that to you rather than ghosting you on the spot. Like i mentioned, it's an amazing place to get coffee, but I wouldn't waste your time trying to get a job there if you're looking for one because the management does not seem that great from my experience. This is seriously the best coffee house in the best small town in Northern Georgia. No joke. We had the opportunity to meet the owner's husband who was so helpful to us - being our first time in town. The coffee is the best we've had in Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Hiwassee, McCaysville etc. The service was awesome - the atmosphere was amazing. What they have with The Roots in the basement as a social hangout and place for bands and performers is the perfect knockout for this college town. You should definitely stop here. Okay, so this place has a great aesthetic and the music was nice. However, the lattes were $5.40 for an 8oz. We weren't offered any other size options and the coffee didn't taste very good. We got the wrong order and when we tried to correct it we were met with hostility. The people behind the counter seemed annoyed and weren't very helpful. It has a lot of potential, but it's just not there yet. read more

It's cool if you're a member and get all the perks ($30/month) but they don't offer a ton of drink options. The membership will definitely pay itself off if you go enough and they have cool things like yoga classes to check out. read more

Cute, quaint coffee/tea shop. Indoor/outdoor seating. They have (not sure if it's a special or all the time) an Orange Chocolate latte that was delicious. On any of the baked goods that they sell, the ingredients are on the bottom, in case you have allergies, it's nice to know what they have in each one. Recommended! read more

The girls behind the counter are super sweet. The environment is lovely. The coffee is mediocre at best. They're using a tiny espresso machine that looks like it's meant for your kitchen, not a cafe. They only offer oat milk in their lattes unless you want to buy a milk carton. I was confused by this - couldn't find any signage explaining it. They said it's their "preference." Their half and half is in the little packets only - no heavy cream available. Also, you can only get 8oz coffees. I think this place has a lot of potential, but right now they are under-delivering. read more

As a student at the University in Dahlonega, it's a treat to go to the square and get a snack or a coffee from somewhere local. However, Canopy is not one of the coffee shops I would recommend. First and foremost, their customer service could use some help. The first time I went, I ordered some Buffalo Dip. When I saw it was refrigerated, I asked "oh, could y'all please heat it up for me?" The employee's response was "We have a microwave over there." Their tone was rude and disrespectful. Secondly, the menu is overpriced. $8 for a small serving of Buffalo dip? No thanks! And lastly, as a student, I want to be able to sit down and do some school work. At Canopy, you have to pay for Wi-Fi, and I'm just not looking to pay any more than I am for a college education. read more

Coffee, tea, baked goods & snacks with GF & Vegan options. We hire only smiling faces with character & integrity and we look for the same in our vendors...from our imported Costa Rican coffee deliciousness (Café Britt) to locally-sourced gluten-free & vegan baked goods (HomeSpun & Daily Bread) + Mountain Fresh ice cream & milk we serve our community through supporting our community. We also serve up Praise nights on Tuesdays + live performances throughout the week & open mic (check our website calendar for shows)!

History

Established in 2020.

We opened 2/4/20, exactly six weeks before COVID-19 shut down our economy. The opening was tremendous with much support from the Dahlonega community & visitors. Our shop was a lifetime in the making, ever since our inspired owners returned from living in Costa Rica in 2003, yet was executed in only four months of intense creativity & blessed construction hands. We envisioned a place where community is celebrated and a spirit of joy & graciousness resides. We envisioned planting a seed and witnessing growth (hence, Canopy + the Roots). To accomplish this we enlisted the support of: Prayer (for vision & guidance) + 3rd Element Studio (for interior design) + LYTLEfoto (for branding/graphic design) + our loca Vendors. We say, “there’s good ideas and there are God-ideas”, Canopy+the Roots is both! We are excited to welcome you into our shop for hangin’ in our Social House, stretchin’ in our heated Yoga room, or chillin’ in our 100 person underground-speakeasy Listening Room!

I found it to be relaxing and helped with some of my sciatica pain. My husband had the same treatment and liked it as well but didn't find it as relaxing as myself. Next I did the Shirodhara. The location can be a bit confusing to find if you are unfamiliar with the area, as its located in the back of the Tannery Row building (but the GPS brings you to the front). I signed up for the introductory Private Pilates Package which allows me 5 Private Pilates sessions for $200. I have never taken a Pilates class in my life, so I was a bit nervous and intimidated. My instructor, Josee, was very warm, welcoming and explained everything we were doing in detail. The studio itself is really nice as well. When we got to the launch site, the attendee THREW a strap at my head when I asked for a joining strap for my husband and i's tube. It actually hit me in the face and he laughed and apologized. We got on the water and things were great. So once you're out of the company's care, you're fine.
