I usually lift or do yoga and had tried pilates twice before and had been unimpressed. That was before I had a one-on-one session with Linda at Urban. She is a fantastic coach. She clearly has a deep understanding of the discipline and is an excellent motivator. The session was perfectly tailored to my goals -- strenuous and focused on core strength and mobility. Now I get why people swear by pilates. Highly recommend trying this place out.

My partner and I discovered Lift when we were coming out of 18 months of Covid restrictions and…read moreneeding a way to get back to healthy habits, exercise, and stress reduction. I found the studio online and of all the studios I looked at, it had the most variety of classes at times that worked for us (after regular working hours and on weekends). We signed up for the initial $20 unlimited 2 weeks pass and crammed in as many classes as we could over that time. Every class we took and every instructor we worked with was fantastic. I did 2 of the video classes as well. Everyone was kind and welcoming. And we loved that every single class and instructor reinforced that everyone's yoga practice is individual and we should feel free to modify as needed and ask for help when needed. We have since purchased multiple of the 30 class packs but I think we'll switch to the monthly rate as soon as we've used all of our classes. We look forward to the 2-3 classes a week we attend; they've become so much a part of our weekly routine that everything feels "off" if we miss one! The fact that Lift has now added a John's Creek location is even better for us, since we split time between my home in Alpharetta and my partner's house in John's Creek - so wherever we are, we can find a class time and location that works. Final note: I can only assume the handful of people giving 1-star reviews and complaining about the studio being "activist" and "political" are anti-maker folks who bristled at being asked to wear a mask and social distance inside the studio. We gladly wore our masks for the first several months we attended and continue to distance while inside the studio when requested. Yoga is not a-political. The very essence of yoga requires truth, justice, peace, and learning - and yes, activism. Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't understand yoga.

Joel's teaching style is patient and kind. The classes are so small it feels more like physical therapy or personal training rather than group fitness. My aerial class had 3 other students and my mat Pilates class had 2 other students. I would be a regular if I lived in the area!

They put me through the paces three times a week in a trio setting. The instructors work with students of many levels at once, so each participant gets a workout on their own level. My husband trains with me two times a week. Any infirmities we are blessed with are always taken into consideration with special modifications, so don't worry about aches and pains. The atmosphere is pleasant and encouraging at all times, with a variety of apparatus to make the workout interesting. The result is improved strength, endurance, and flexibility.

I've been working with Diannah for over a year now. Had done Pilates before. This time I chose…read moreDiannah's Pilates after fracturing my neck and wrist while mountain biking. I just felt like she knew more about my core than a regular physical therapist, and I was right! She was able to start me at the most basic level, that I never thought I would have to begin at, and it was perfect. She has such a knowledge of how the body moves, and needs to move, and so many ways to modify any movement or exercise. She's really good at meeting you at your level, and knowing when to push you just a little bit more to get beyond it. I have come so far in my recovery! I am now able to do almost everything I used to do, which was a lot. I can now do physical work, backpack, bicycle, run, motorcycle, play disc golf again, etc. Everyone else I know who has had these type of injuries has needed at least 2-3 years to get back to what they felt was normal. And I didn't have to go through any painful, dry needling or any other of that intense therapy. With just one session a week, the only additional work I've done is to engage my core when I'm being active, lots of self massage in the beginning and stretching now with essential oils. Also, full disclosure, I've had occasional Reiki and monthly Network chiropractic. I am by no means an ideal client, nor am I obsessed with Pilates. Kinda wish I was, 'cause I'd be that much stronger, but I'm actually pretty lazy and just busy with everything else in my life! I can see that as strong as I've become, there is still plenty of room for even more improvement, and Diannah has a lot more to offer me. I totally credit Diannah's Pilates work with a huge part of my recovering my life again! She's also a great conversationalist, which after more than a year of regular sessions, makes her still really nice to still be around!

This has been resolved with Diannah's recommendations for changes in my posture and giving me exercises to do during the work day along with Pilates. She is very knowledgeable about body mechanics and has been able to work with me and my limitations and I'm confident she can do the same with you. Body Flo also has the aerial silks that are a lot of fun and give a great workout! I highly recommend Diannah and Body Flo Studio! Its great for your body, relaxing, and fun!!!
