If I could give more than five stars I would. I fell in love with this place. The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly! We tried two different pizzas, spaghetti with meatballs, meatballs and mashed potatoes, lasagna and the tiramisu. THE TIRAMISU IS A MUST TRY! It was so yummy I had to order one to go for a midnight snack! I recommend trying the Brunello di Montalcino wine. This place was so good that we had to come back a second night for dinner. They are open late and if you don't mind walking it's beautiful to go at night. It's located next to the Piazza Novona which has beautiful fountains like the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi. To be fair, the food wasn't bad but we simply didn't like it. Why? Felt like they adjusted the cooking for tourists who like big portions and drowned the pasta in sauce and cheese. At Cantina e Cucina, you'll get the entire Roman experience as this is a welcoming restaurant that has the atmosphere of being invited to a dinner party at a friend's home. It's festive and intimate with several people dining at peak hours. But that is the sign of a good restaurant. For big portions and tasty Italian food at very reasonable prices this may be the place for you. Let's start with the food and it is delicious. The best part is that they provide you with such hearty portions that you really feel like you're their guest and they just wanted to feed you right. For starters we tried their famous and recommended Crispy Roman Artichoke (5 euros) as well as the French Fries cheesy and peppery (6.5 euros). Then we added the Loren salad (8.50 euros). The Crispy Roman Artichoke was my favorite and it was not oily but still had the robust flavor of artichoke with a crisp outer part. For main courses, we had the Amatriciana pasta as well as the Funghi pizza (both 9 euros). The Amatriciana was very flavorful with pieces of bacon and fresh tomato sauce shining throughout. The Funghi pizza was big enough for two and was cheesy and delicious. Even though we ordered a lot and were completely stuffed, the food all tasted amazing and that says a lot when the food still tastes good and you're completely full. For beverages, we tried their Italian sodas, the Spuma cola and it was like a more bitter version of Coca Cola. At first it was odd but it eventually grew on me and worked well with the dishes. Finally we ended our meal with their highly recommended tiramisu. It was light, not too sweet, and a very satisfying way to end our meal. I also have to commend our server Monica as she was incredible throughout and was completely attentive and kind. Also, Giuseppe was a fantastic host and always made sure we had what we needed. Cute atmosphere and air conditioned! We didn't make reservations, waited about 10 minutes. We had the bruschetta which was good and calamari. Calamari is just normal so I wouldn't bother, I really just wanted to get calamari in Italy that's why I got it. We got the amatriciana pasta which was very very good, and a pizza w sausage olives and something started w B, it was good nothing amazing, by their pizzas do look good. Tiramisu was good but not the best one I've had. I'm going to give them 5 stars because if ur coming just for food ur going to be satisfied. I'm about to explode I ate so much. Arrived about 7pm and a small line was forming (which got a lot longer quickly). Almost as soon as we got in line, the delightful "Daniela" came bubbling up to all of us in line, welcoming us and pouring us small glasses of Prosecco. Once we were seated, "Roxane" greeted us, got our drinks and later returned quickly to take our order. She popped back a time or two to check on us. When in Rome, you simply have to make it to this place! My fiancé & I were fortune enough to stay around the corner from this restaurant. Upon our arrival to Rome and after leaving our bag behind, we decided to find a place to eat closed by. We used Yelp to guide us as we do in US. We found this place and decided to try it out. The "Carbonara", "Amatriciana" & "Cacio e Pepe" were all to die for. We also had their Tiramisu and a 2012 Banfi Chianti Classico were all excellent and well-priced. We ended up eating at Cantina e Cucina at least 4 times in the 5 days we were in Rome. To conclude we had out last "Lunch" in Rome at this restaurant because it was conveniently located around the corner from apartment in Rome, the food was always excellent as well as the service. It comes out piping hot and it's so good. Spaghetti with meatball-homemade pasta cooked el dente, it was perfect. My son really liked the meatball. We ordered this both meals, that's how good the pasta was. The spinach ravioli was just ok. It was homemade too, but it wasn't anything special. We also ordered the grilled veggies and it was good. Service and atmosphere were amazing. We were greeted with shots of champagne as we awaited our table. Not too long, just 3 minutes. Our waitress was sweet and enthusiastic. In fact, it truly is a pub-typesetting with a mix of traditional Roman meals made in a bar food manner. It's a pleasant departure from the pizzeria scene or the traditional trattoria. The location, just far enough off the tourist trap zone of the Piazza Navona, makes it an easy place to find and a refreshing escape from the status quo. The meal was fantastic, best described as simple comfort food executed perfectly. We loved the prosciutto and burrata appetizer as well as the homemade pasta with meatballs and pasta carbonara. The staff at Cantina Cucina delighted us with their hilarity. During the 20 minute wait for a table, Jimmy poured bottomless cups of champagne, told jokes, and got a guest to do the limbo.
