We had a party of 3 and decided Mexican sounded good. The waitress was just ok. We started with chips and salsa. The baskets of chips seemed on the small side, we asked her to refill it 3x I think, and we didn't feel like we were eating a ton of chips. We then asked for queso. It was just, so so. Not much flavor, kind of watery, and a big chunk of something gooey in the middle, not sure what that was about. It didn't look very appetizing. I ordered a soft shelled beef taco. I think it was called the Americana. It was not awful, but not great either. It really had NO flavor at all. It was the thinnest flour tortilla I've ever seen. The tortilla was soggy when she sat the plate in front of me. Again, not real appetizing, and if the stars were based on presentation, it'd be negative. I did add salsa to the taco, which didn't add much flavor either. I don't know why I thought I'd be given more than just a taco on a small plate, but I thought it'd come with rice and beans, but I also didn't ask that question. Another person in our party ordered a soft beef taco with lettuce and cheese. The taco was very watery/ oily and not much flavor at all, the tortilla was also soggy. Came in for a quick lunch while visiting my nephew. The place is a hoot! The decor, I learned, is very locally based and features colors of the local two high schools - evidently this place is situated right between two of them. The lunch specials were moderately priced and super tasty. Wayne had the ground beef burrito, not too big, and covered in queso. I enjoyed the chicken burrito bowl which turned out to be large enough for lunch the next day! It was quite good with black beans and rice, lettuce, grilled chicken, guacamole and pico. First I'm so happy there is a local restaurant close to my house for those days like today when you just don't feel like cooking OR taking a drive to pick up food. My husband drove over there to place the order as the website's online service uses Door Dash which is more expensive. However if you live locally delivery is free. Ordering was quick and we received everything we ordered. I had the street tacos basket with black beans and rice. I had carnitas, Al Pastor,and Carne asada taco. Out of the three the Al Pastor was the best as the carnitas was fatty and zero flavor. The carne asada was a bit dry. My order didn't come with lime wedges which I feel like would have been a help. I didn't finish my black beans as they were too salty. My husband had the Al Pastor burrito that came with fries. My daughter ordered the Cantina chicken quesadilla. My husband requested to have the guacamole removed as he is allergic to avocados,which was done. DELICIOUS!! New to Florida from the land of fantastic Mexican food (California)- this has been the best Mexican food (that I've found). First off- what a vibe this place is. Love the decor with the local high school team flair depicted on the walls feeling very Dia de los Muertos and I'm here for it. Our server was Jessica and she was awesome. Not pictured was my chicken soft taco WHICH had shredded chicken and it was chefs kiss. The rice and beans were good. The fajitas were skirt steak instead of asada which I'm a huge fan of (ya, ya, ya- what Californian doesn't like asada?! I don't- keep that gristle LOL) Ceviche was good with big chunks of shrimp and avocado and the right amount of acidity. Oooh! Ooooh! Service was really bad. Came at 5:45 pm at on Taco Tuesday, got sat immediately but server didn't arrive until 20 minutes later. The place wasn't empty but it certainly wasnt busy by any means. We watched multiple servers walk back and forth in front of our table without acknowledging us (we sat outside) and over half the tables were empty or already had their food. Another server finally came over with chips and salsa, didn't introduce herself or anything but took our drinks order before our actual server came. Neither introduced themselves or said anything besides asking what we wanted. Drinks came with no rim, wasn't asked if we wanted one at all - and drinks werent flavorful and watered down. Server checked on us only once in between when we placed our food order and the rest of our time there, next time she came by she just dropped the checks off without asking if we wanted anything else. When she picked the check didn't acknowledge us at all. However, the tacos were good and the hostesses were super sweet and accommodating, acknowledged everyone that came up to them and interacted with everyone! The bussers were clearly working very hard and were super quick. San Jose location is wayyy better and way more attentive! I wish I could separately review the take out service & the dine-in. The dine-in is always good. They're on point. The food is tasty. Service is good & nice. Music is cool too. For their takeout service, they always forget something from our order. Happened again tonight. Large order of 4 entrees. The fajitas were missing although the sides for the fajita (rice, beans & salad) were in the bag. I'm told to wait for 5mins because they needed to make it.... It's fine. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant to come to. You cannot beat the prices, service, quality and quantity anywhere else. We have found that it's cheaper for two people to eat here than at Chipotle. I have tried the west coast burrito, tacos, and tamales here, and I have no complaints! The chicken is juicy and seasoned well, the cheese is cheesy, and the salads are fresh. My husband always orders the chicken fajitas that come with a side salad, rice, and beans. I'll have to go back and try again. I did go on opening night which was Taco Tuesday. It was surprised empty on opening night. We sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and quick to assist us. I tried a number of margaritas. They were pretty good. The reason for my lower rating is the food seemed rather bland. I do want to go back and try again - hopefully I can find something I enjoy off the menu because this location is basically walkable to my home. I am very thankful to have a bar close by! We have always loved visiting the other cantina Louis locations and are so happy to have one just down the street now! The decor of this new location is so fun and beautiful! We went for opening night and expected things to be a little disorganized but we were pleasantly surprised! Service was great! Food came out quick and was delicious! I tried a new menu item, street corn shrimp tacos and oh my goodness they were AMAZING! Tacos are only $2.99 on tuesdays..... even the fancy ones. All specialty drinks are $5.99 on Taco Tuesdays. We first ate at the their location in St Augustine and loved it so we were excited to see one cone here to Fruit Cove. This one here at Fruit Cove must have not had the newness worn off yet. Normally we love CL, but this experience wasn't great. Sat at the bar at 8pm, got our drinks and chips and placed our dinner order. About 30 min went by and still no food. It wasn't very busy, but it is a new restaurant so maybe the food takes longer while they work out the kinks...however another 30 min goes by and it's now 9pm. Our drinks sat empty and we couldn't find our bartender anywhere. We were able to flag down another bartender for another round of drinks but again, the food never came. At 9:30 they started shutting down the bar, cleaning up, mopping etc so we left hungry and had to drive somewhere else to eat dinner. Not a great 1st impression of this place. read more
