We had a decent sized order for carryout. When we got home, turns out part of our order was missing. It was storming and we had been out all day so I did not want to go back out. My family has eaten a lot of food from this place. We have eaten in and carried out. Yesterday we carried out and were so disappointed. Many of the items we ordered were foods on our "tried & true" list. The food was completely different from what we are used to eating from this place and NOT in a good way. Egg rolls are more densely compacted now, crab Rangoon was not crab but some pink purée of shrimp in a wonton wrapper. It was pretty bad. We ordered 3 main dishes as well and none of us desire the leftovers, I know restaurants are having a hard time right now, but so are their regular patrons. Canton Delight is cutting costs in the worst possible ways. I hope that they will be able to stay afloat long enough to revamp their menu and buffet as well as finding a much better Chef/Cook or two. If you're looking for a clutch mom and pop Chinese spot that always hits the spot than you've found it. It's small in size but the flavors have you keep coming for more. Been coming here for over 10 years and I can't get tired of it. From the fried chicken wings to the seasoned green beans to the beef and broccoli my plate is always filled up. They also have a good takeout deal where you grab a box and fill it up to the rim. As long as you can close it it's yours. Family owned business knows what they're doing to have you keep coming back. I tried another Buffett yesterday that was 10x the size and I would still choose canton over it. My only thing I would say is go in the afternoon, the waitress is a lot nicer and friendly. She always has a lollipop for my daughter. The evening waitress will make you feel uncomfortable as you're about to pay to make sure she has a tip. Went the other night, they are still doing carry out only. The food has gone way down hill! I was shocked, its still pretty much the same food choices on the buffet, but wow how disappointing everything I tried tasted. Dry, bland and far from fresh and this was at 5:30pm. I think they have new owners or at least a different cook. If you're ever looking for a quick fix for some Chinese food, this is a good place to go. Even though they're all you can eat selection is pretty limited, it's actually pretty good. I always look forward to the lo mein, egg rolls, and fried chicken wings. I've even come in on certain days to get take out because their prices are very reasonable. Seating is pretty limited, but we've never had a problem being seated. I've seen people order off of a menu before, too. However, most people come here for the buffet. read more

I have been here several times, but not to sit down and eat for the lunch buffet, but to grab a box and fill it up to take home. It is a small Chinese establishment at the end of the strip with Dunkin Donuts and Papa Johns at the other end. The food here is not plentiful in terms of choices, but the amount of food you can get for your money is astounding. I do recommend bringing cash as there is an extra ($.25) surcharge to use your credit card. For a box to fill up for lunch, it is $8. With that 8 dollars, you can fill up a regular plastic three portioned box with as much food as you want as long as it closes. This is a nice touch. You can play a bit of food Tetris while you are picking for your lunch/dinner. The thing is that this amount of food if you skip the carbohydrates, ends up being enough to feed two people or for yourself for 2-3 meals. Breaking that down, it ends up being 4 dollars per meal or less. As for the quality of the food, it is passable. It is by no means incredibly bad, but it is edible and at times delicious. The meat isn't the freshest or the highest quality, but it does the job of keeping you full. For the amount of food with the amount of money spent, this is actually a good value for your money. I can really see this place taking off if it was placed near a college campus. The value is just too good to ignore and is worth trying out if you ever feel like conserving money to try out a place nearby - if you are in the area. read more

I've been going to Canton Delight around once a month for well over 20 years. It's good food at a good value, generally, with the same faces behind the counter in and the kitchen since the beginning. Until tonight, Saturday, February 23. We placed an order over the phone for takeout, had a substitution and was told it would be $1.50 additional, no problem with that. We arrive to pick it up and there is a new guy at the register, a young man with a super-thin Mohawk hairstyle, we've never seen him before. As he rings us up, the bill was a dollar higher than quoted on the phone, and we pointed it out to him. He was kind of belligerent about it and admitted that he quoted us the wrong price, but frankly, that has never happened there before at this restaurant and it just smelled like he was trying to rip us off. So we said that we would pay the quoted price, and this guy went off the handle, YELLING at us as loud as he can, every person in the restaurant turned around, he was that loud. He refused to budge on the matter. Now, the problem is not with the money, mistakes happen and a polite apology on his part would have defused the situation and we would have gladly paid the difference. But the way he yelled at us, the way he belittled us, his attitude toward us (the customer is NOT always right with him, that's for sure), has turned us off. We have given this restaurant over $4,000 over the years, but after the way we were treated today, I think they have seen the last of me. Where do I even begin to start with this place. I've come here for years especially with my dad. We discovered it a long time ago. The staff have seen me grow up and often depending on who is there they will give me a discount. They have always been so kind. After I moved to VA I definitely don't get to come here often anymore but when I visit MD I always pick up a couple boxes. I try to support them as much as possible My favorite things are the seasoned green beans at the buffet portion, along with the egg rolls and last but not least the fried chicken. I had been coming here forever. The buffet still is the most affordable around Gaithersburg. I love their green beans, the best I ever had. It is sauteed with some kind of dried shallots which I can't find anywhere. Because I tried to imitated the flavor in my own cooking many times but failed to duplicate their flavor. The chicken wings is fantastic as well but I think they tweaked the flavor a little. Used to have a slight curry taste but I think they removed it from the breading. However its still very good wings. Those two items are what keeps me coming back. As for other items they were just average. read more

Sad to report back that it's gone downhill, the prices are up and the quality of food down. Had an incident where our soda was clearly expired from the taste to the date STAMPED ON the bottle, yet the older lady in the front refused to let us exchange it and denied that it was expired ! Yeah it's only a dollar but it's the principle, so we grab another soda, also bad. Got charged & paid for both anyway because the lady was so rude about it ! Lots of locals eating out on a budget. The chicken wings were just ok. I don't think they were really seasoned but you can add hot sauce/soy/sweetnsour separately if you want. Beef and broccoli meh. If you don't jump on it quick enough people eat all the beef and ur left with just veggies :-) Would I come back? This is a guilty pleasure of mine. I only come here on cheat days and make sure to steal all their broccoli to counteract all the sesame chicken I consume. I know it's just a cheap buffet, but it is clear that this chef understands flavors. All the food is Americanized, but I'd love to see what they can do with an authentic dish. This place is so popular that they refill items every 5-10 minutes and you can tell that they cook items to order. The food is hot, fresh, tasty, and plentiful. My favorites are their jumbo fried chicken wings, beef and brocolli, and string beans. Yes, it's Americanized Chinese so there's also General Tso's chicken, fried rice, kung pao chicken, and sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, soups, etc. If you know Chinese cooking, then you can taste the cooking wine in the chicken meat in the kung pao, the string beans are done correctly, tender yet snappy, with hints of fresh garlic. You can taste the pride and effort that the chef puts into the food. It's the best deal going. I've seen the small buffet table feed over 100 people an hour counting carry-out. It's funny watching people trying to close the lid after putting 5 lbs. of food in the carry-out containers. If you're looking for the best deal around and hot, fresh, all you can eat Chinese food, give it a try. The wings alone are worth the cost of the buffet IMHO. GET THEIR combo for Carry-out... a few years ago it was around $5 (but I think they raised it a bit). You'll get a generous portion with Fried rice and an egg roll (that I sub for soup instead). I heart their Triple Delight (Shrimp, Beef, Chicken, Pork with veggies in a brown sauce). I also LOVE their Fried Chicken (appetizer) it's the best Fried Chicken around town... really, try it. Their lo mein is also yummy, not the best but yummy. All Chinese restaurants that serve this type of menu are greasy b/c the way they make the "General Tso's" or "Sesame Chicken" or "Sweet and Sour Chicken" or "Lemon Chicken" is by deep frying it first and then adding the sauce. They also have a buffet, which I haven't tried, but it was small, and nothing spectacular. It wasn't busy when I went there, but it was a small little place. Being the fried chicken connoisseur I am, I'm always on the lookout for claims about delicious fried chicken. Finally gave in to the curiosity that developed from reading some of the other reviews. I'm about to put the hurting on some fried chicken, ear to ear. Pull up, walk in. Didn't have jumbo chicken wings, all I saw was drumsticks, what a bummer. So I get it to go. Pile on some Chinese food and drumsticks. Might as well check out all of the food since there were no wings. Average, nothing unforgettable. Definitely not the best fried chicken I've had in the area. I wouldn't rank it in the top five places for fried chicken in the area. I wish I could have found the same chicken the other reviewers were going on about, but it wasn't there. Maybe the great reviews about the fried chicken are from the weekday lunch buffet. Maybe it's different cooks on the weekend night shifts. Maybe the other reviewers just have never experienced good fried chicken yet.
