This restaurant is beautiful inside. From the moment you go inside, you feel like you're transported somewhere else in the world. As for our server, something seemed off. He rushed us to order, made us uncomfortable when we were deciding what to order, and asked us if we wanted the house made bread. I knew the bread was $5 but he made no mention of it. If I was coming to eat there and was asked if I wanted bread and didn't know there was a charge, I would be upset. It was kind of deceiving, and when the bill came out, shoved the handheld device to pay in my face and I couldn't go over the bill. He told me to put my phone here when paying and that was that. The bill was incorrect and I had to get a manager to fix it (the manger was very friendly and took care of everything). I also have an issue when a server asks us how the food is, right when the food gets put down on the table. We hadn't even had a chance to take a bite. Now, why I gave this place a five star. Like I said before, the ambiance was amazing, if we had a different server, I'm sure it would had been great! The food: it' was top notch. Some of the best food in Maryland. The ambiance and food was amazing. When you walk up, there is a very large patio. It looked lovely to sit at on a nice day. The house is also subdivided into smaller rooms, so there is no more than about 6 tables per section. It made it intimate and well curated. We went with friends and came prepared to eat. We ordered plenty of appetizers, our meals, and 2 desserts. My favorites were the burrata and arancini. My salad was basic, but trying a bite of my husband's steak was fantastic. Pretty much everything was a baseline of good enough to order again, but now that I've gone once the things I need again are pretty much all the appetizers and a steak. As for the desserts, they were just ok. I don't think I've ever had a dry olive oil cake, but this one was. The gelato on top made up for it because it was like an added sauce. Finally, our server was ok. He was great with our orders and refilling our drinks. I came here for a private party. Salt & Vine is located in the historic Olney House, which has many rooms and charm, making it the perfect venue to host an event. I'm not gonna lie, despite following the GPS, it was tricky for me to find where the restaurant was actually located. The GPS led me through the back way, so there were unmarked roads and no signage identifying Salt & Vine from the back. The easiest way to find the big white house of the restaurant is off of Olney Sandy Spring Road. There's a few parking spots available in the front and additional parking in the back. We had a private room upstairs, almost in a nook. The room was a little dingy and was a bit dated - the mirrors were tarnished and could've used some Windex - but the dining room table was set and it gave us the intimate ambiance that we were looking for. Service was excellent! Five stars for service! Ty was our primary server. He checked on us frequently to see if we needed anything, checked to see how the food was, and still gave us the space to enjoy our private lunch together. Any time a new guest arrived, Ty promptly greeted the newcomer and was ready to get them a drink. When the guest of honor arrived, he gave his congratulatory wishes and really set the tone for a wonderful luncheon at Salt & Vine. Service was super accommodating and pacing between the dishes was done really well. We never felt rushed and also never felt like we were sitting around wondering when the next dish would come. All the dishes served had the necessary serving utensils for family-style. Service was upscale in the sense that they changed out plates and silverware in between courses. Service was also super seamless - another staff member was there to assist to clear plates, bring out food and dishes, and do drink refills - and everyone did their job efficiently and effectively. Leftovers were also packed up by the staff and neatly packaged to take home. We had a family-style meal consisting of the arancini, grandma's meatballs, house salad, wood-oven roasted oysters, fusilli bolognese, artichoke and crab frittata, fresh berries and whipped cream, and cannolis. Each dish had beautiful presentation. The standout dish (and rightfully so) was the fusilli bolognese, which Ty said was by far the most popular dish on the menu. The fusilli bolognese was delicious! The fusilli bolognese was perfectly balanced between the meat, creamy tomato sauce, and cheese. I don't like pasta that's swimming in sauce or that has chunks of meat that's dry or rolls right out of the sauce - this fusilli bolognese does everything right and I'm here for it. The arancini was light and super cheesy on the inside. It's almost like a fried mozzarella ball. The meatball was served with a lovely dollop of herbed ricotta. Both the arancini and meatball were served in a tasty marina sauce and I would say they were good serving sizings for the starters. The house salad was fresh and nicely dressed, but pretty basic - some mixed greens, little tomatoes, pickled red onions, and croutons, plus a balsamic dressing. The artichoke and crab frittata was topped with mixed greens that almost felt like another salad. Everything was portioned out already, making it easy to serve and share the meal together. I do like a little more stuff in my frittata (peppers, onions, cheese, etc. aka the works), but I did appreciate that you can taste the crab and artichokes in the dish. For dessert, we had the fresh berries with whipped cream and a platter of cannolis. We loved the berries and whipped cream - so fresh and lightly sweet and airy. You get a two-for-one with the cannolis - you get chocolate chips on one side and pistachios on the other end - it's the best of both worlds! These were classic cannolis done really well. Late review ... came here a few of months ago with my husband and teen daughter. We sat outside, as the weather was still on the warmer side. The place looked cute outside. We had a few items; for apps, we split the carpaccio, which we liked. Our daughter had the Ceasar salad, she didn't love it because there was a huge anchovy in the middle (none of us had ever seen such a big anchovy in a Ceasar before). For entrees, I had the Iceland Cod with the faro and fennel salad (might have been a special husband got pasta and daughter had the 6 oz filet mignon. We wanted to get in one more restaurant week date night so we made reservations at Salt & Vine! The restaurant looks like a very large house and has multiple floors and dining rooms/areas. The restaurant was buzzing with conversation all around us. It was a little hard to hear each other, but we adjusted. Our waiter, P.R., made some good suggestions for appetizers. I had the Caviar Bites, my wife had the Whipped Ricotta. We also ordered drinks; I had a glass of Rosé, my wife had the Blueberry Smash. The appetizers tasted good, especially the caviar bites! They're a combination of potato rösti (it tasted like a really good French fry) with various caviar and a cheese sauce called Stracciatella drizzled on than. Yum!!!! We both ordered the Grilled NY Striploin which came with broccolini and pommes rösti (the French fry thing, lol). We both ordered medium but my wife's came out medium well. We didn't say anything about it since everything tasted great! Although she said my steak tasted better than hers since it was cooked as ordered. Finally got to experience Salt & Vine! I met up with a friend right next door and didn't realize how close this place was. Based on the pics I saw from outside, I thought it was on a hill in the middle of some big field somewhere in Olney, not right in the nearby parking lot XD. It has a stunning exterior with patio seating. It was a beautiful day, so my buddy and I kept debating between sitting inside and outside. Before deciding we did walk through, and I loved how beautiful the decor inside is. I didn't get to see upstairs, but I imagine it was even more delight. We eventually decided to sit outside, the weather was irresistible. When we sat down, we made an awesome discovery -- it was about to be happy hour! They have it 7 days a week at the bar or on the patio, so it turned out wonderfully. We still had about 20 minutes, so I got a bowl of gazpacho in the meantime. I hadn't had it in like 15 years and it tasted even better than I remembered! It's about as summer as you can get when it comes to soup. When happy hour time came, we got fritto misto, which is fried calamari, shrimp, scallops, and lemon slices all in one... very unique, and I was intrigued! There was definitely more shrimp than anything else though. We each had a FANTASTIC lamb chop... I have to bring my friend who loves lamb in the near future. And we each had a glass of wine and split the fusilli bolognese. That was an excellent pasta -- flavorful and all. Be aware parking is very limited and you may have to drive around for a little in order to find a space. Although pricey, we all very much enjoyed our dinner here. The crab linguine was delicious, as was the shrimp in butter sauce. The focaccia is also house made and we used it to dip in the shrimp butter sauce. The beef carpaccio was tasty and the brocollini was grilled to perfection. The drinks were all presented beautifully and you really can't go wrong with any of them! Revisited Salt and Vine for Mother's Day dinner this past Sunday. My family and I decided to dine a week after the actual day to avoid the crowds. I re-ordered their lemoncello spritz (still highly recommend if you want a summer drink), the beef carpaccio, meatballs and sausage pizza pie for an appetizer. My favorite was the meatball dish, very tender and flavored very well. I personally ordered their 6 oz blue tuna with a side of pea and black truffles risotto. I thoroughly enjoyed the dish and for some reason, they always nail the cook on the risotto every time. My sister and mom wanted a small dessert too that wasn't on their menu (an affogato). However we noticed that they had espresso and gelato on their menu as separate items. The staff were kind enough to essentially put both items together to create an affogato. Very delicious and highly recommend as well. Overall, another very exceptional experience. It is quite pricey but definitely a well worth dining experience every once in awhile. The bar area is beautiful with rich dark woods, mirrors, and comfortable cream couches. The management reigns supreme, Jason, one of the front of the house managers came by several times to check on us. I thought that was really nice. We started off our meal with fried artichokes and the burrata platter. Unfortunately, somebody in the prep department forgot to remove the chokes from the artichoke dish. That made it a little difficult to eat and enjoy. The burrata platter was by far our favorite antipasti. There was a large mound of fresh burrata, tasty warm pita bread, flavorful peppers, and a generous helping of prosciutto. This is the best appetizer! One of our diners got the pressed duck, which is cooked and then pressed with layers of potatoes, and peas. It looked outrageously good and we were both sorry that we didn't order this dish. Next time... One friend ordered the arugula, asparagus, radish, egg, and prosciutto salad dressed in a honey mustard vinaigrette. He added chicken to his salad. He really enjoyed his dish. I ordered the roasted beet salad with pistachio nuts, goat cheese, strawberries, lettuce and a cheese blend. It was dressed in a mustard, lemon vinaigrette. I added shrimp to my dish. I thought my salad was excellent. The shrimp and beets were cooked to phenomenally. I wish they would have added a few more shrimp to the dish. But, the 3 shrimp on the salad were large in size. For dessert, we had the tiramisu, which included coffee, soaked Ladyfingers, Kahlua coffee liquor, and cream. All three of us were blown away. Best tiramisu that we have ever had in our lives. Chef's kiss! Our friend had the toasted almond cake with marscyepone frosting. That was amazing too. The pastry chef is so talented. An incredible meal, but it is definitely pricey. Salt & Vine is large, yet cozy and intimate, with several rooms for dining. Service is prompt and attentive. On this first visit I had the Orecchiette Salsiccia and my guy had the rainbow trout. Apparently the wood fired oven they use is original to the house! The front area is a little strange because it leads straight into a staircase, but the rest of the restaurant is elegantly decorated. I loved the green and gold wallpaper in the downstairs dining room. I was a little disappointed in the variety of brunch offerings- most of the menu was not breakfast food. However, all of the food was really beautiful and tasted great, too! I got the beet salad, which I think was the best thing on the table. It was prepared well and had a great mix of flavors. The staff were quiet and discreet but very attentive. When I told my husband I was meeing an old friend at Salt & Vine, he expressed concern. He'd been there shortly after it opened and said it was "okay." I decided to go with it anyway based on reviews and the other area restaurants, although I admit I was a little nervous when my friend and I walked in. I'd made reservations for 11:30 AM, but our previous engagement went short and we arrived a good twenty minutes early. Despite that, we were seated without a issue in an attractive, comfortable dining area. Our personable server took our order promptly. The delicious food arrived in a reasonable length of time: warm, chewy focaccia and tangy, fresh beet salad. The portions were large enough that we didn't order any more food, and ended up taking focaccia home. In addition to the server checking in on us multiple times, a manager stopped by our table to make sure everything was good. It wasn't just good; it was great! Our server did a really good job just knowing the menu, the go to orders and asking all the right questions. Quick and efficient. Was not too busy so she was on top of service. Oddly enough, the salad and pasta was the highlight of my meal. I typically don't eat Cantaloupe but that was an EXCELLENT salad. Ribeye was not bad, but nothing special.. could benefit from a nice char but it lacked that crust. Not sure of the seasoning but it was drizzled with olive oil and the beef was paper thin. Done to perfection. Brussel sprouts were delicious, topped with pine nuts so crunchy texture. When I tasted their pasta, it was overhyped by our server. It was good but not great you know. Really disappointed with our experience at Salt & Vine. We went in expecting something special given the high ratings, but it absolutely did not deliver -- especially for the price point. The truffle manicotti had virtually no truffle flavor whatsoever. If you're going to charge premium prices and advertise truffle, it should actually taste like truffle. It just tasted like basic cheese pasta. The salmon was overly greasy and heavy, and surprisingly didn't even come with rice -- which felt odd for the style of dish. Instead, the "potatoes" were essentially thick, frozen-style fries. For a place charging upscale prices, that felt incredibly lazy. Speaking of pricing, the sides are outrageously expensive for what you get. Everything felt nickel-and-dimed. Overall, this felt like paying fine-dining prices for very average (and at times below-average) food. Definitely not worth the hype. read more

Such a cute restaurant! My girl friends and I came for bottomless brunch. I ordered the prosciutto sandwich which was pretty good and very filling. We also split a margherita pizza (SO GOOD). The staff were very quick to refill our drinks so we never had an empty glass which was nice. read more

I went here with my wife for a Valentine's weekend dinner. The food was yummy and the drinks were tasty. We had such amazing service. Our waitress was very attentive. The manager, Jason was very welcoming and made sure that we enjoyed our food and experience. This was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had. I will definitely be returning.
