As a restaurant at the Welk Resort, I would have expected something higher end. The price was very affordable, but it showed in the quality. There were only two high chairs in the entire restaurant, and both were broken. I was unable to buckle my squirmy 1 year old in, and thus had to have one hand on him at all times so he wouldn't wiggle right out. I ordered a make-your-own-omelette, and picked sausage, cheddar, and Swiss cheese. There was absolutely no cheddar in it at all, and the Swiss cheese was a slice of Swiss on the top of the omelette, and it wasn't even melted. This place is located on the welks resort property in San Diego. The dining area is nice, it wasn't very noisy, but then again it was about an hour before closing when we arrived. The seats are fabric, not good they stain easily and it shows. The service was good, our server did not rush us and was very nice. We had the canyon grill combo, which consisted of 2 coconut shrimps, 3 spring rolls, n 3 chicken wings. The coconut shrimp was excellent as well as the spring rolls the chicken was plain. Sorry no pic. We ordered 3 plates of food for dinner along with a salad and order of onion rings...everything was good event the burger patty had no salt or pepper to taste. I'm sorry for the bad reviews. We had dinner here tonight and everything was excellent. The food was stellar. Well seasoned, properly cooked, so flavorful. Our server, Sarah, was friendly and attentive. We were not rushed, nor were we neglected. We were going to find a restaurant in town for tomorrow, but decided we'd rather eat at Canyon Grille again! I am very fussy when it comes to restaurants and this one did not disappoint. One of the best meals that I've had recently. My husband practically licked his plate clean . I wish I had taken a picture of the beautiful presentation. I had the fillet, it was tender and delicious. The seasonal vegetables were so well cooked and so flavorful that they were a pleasure to eat. My only complaint is they up charge you two dollars for a baked potato. When you're paying $38 for a steak the potato should be included. We will definitely make this our restaurant of choice whenever we stay at Welk San Diego. read more

This place was delicious. As it should be. Its the only real restaurant in the entire Welk Resort.I expected to have to wait a while because of that but we got a drink at the bar and were seated before we finished our drinks. The hostess was busy (I assume) when we walked in so we talked to this older woman who was not polite or welcoming in the least bit. She was actually quite short with us when we asked to be sat outside. I don't remember her name but we saw here again the next morning at the resort's timeshare sales area. She was the worst part about the restaurant. The food, as I said, was very good. We ordered the Macadamia Crusted Chicken. Holy Macadamia Gods! It was so damn good! It came with this fruit chutney that I wish I had right now. It was very very good. I recommend it highly. I really enjoyed our server she was attentive and friendly. The patio was covered and it was the perfect temperature out there. This restaurant was not cheap. It doesn't have to be when its the only one on the resort property. read more

For a resorts restaurant, especially Welk Resort, I expected a lot more than this. I was excited to come here for a buffet style lunch and a show, however that excitement soon died off. Getting to the restaurant there is a huge line. Lets be honest, mostly older folks come watch these shows like "Hello Dolly". So there is a huge line with older people and they are all in the sun. I was too and man I felt like I was being turned into crispy bacon (yum). The line is narrow and crowded with walkers. Getting into the restaurant was a disaster! The management was so frantic they didn't know what in the world to do with so many people. I shouldn't say "they", it was one guy specifically. He was standing right in the entrance shouting orders, blocking the entry, finally I said excuse me. He told me I had to wait, really dude? My group is already inside. So ok he said sorry. They have a terrible use of space inside. It was awful to see them trying to cram so many people inside. They were trying to fill every single chair when they had a dining room attached that they weren't using. I wish I woulf have taken a picture of how close together the tables were and how crowded it was. The pathway to the buffet was so narrow, it was honestly a mission trying to get food. The bathrooms! They have one urinal and one toilet for a buffet! How can that be possible, its a buffet, people need to go now more than ever! Oh wait but they have 3 sinks. 1 urinal, 1 toilet, but 3 sinks. Doesnt add up. Of course they had a line going out the door to the mens bathroom. The food was mediocre, I wont even go into detail. My roast beef was rare. I mean it was cold and tough. read more

Came here for lunch. They offer typical unhealthy American food, not really what's expected at most resorts that are this nice. Resorts these days always offer plant based options as well for the growing population of vegan and vegetarian customers. They had nothing that was vegan, so we improvised. If I could give this place a negative rating I would. My husband got the grilled fish tacos, I got the prime rib and salad . I shouldn't be able to look at the floor and tell what everyone who previously was there were eating. The whole resturants floor looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in months.Bottom line don't eat here. Management clean your restaurant every hour pay attention to the floor and seats, give the blond waitress a promotion, hunt the young male kid down with the tattoo and fire him. for your chief revamp the menu and don't buy food from smart and final think fresh non freezer burned food. I had my first full breakfast at the Canyon Grille on a Saturday morning and ordered the California Eggs Benedict with a side of bacon and a cup of coffee. The plating looked very appetizing and more importantly, the food was tasty! I usually cannot eat more than one egg, but the eggs benedict were cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of avocado and cheese - I couldn't help myself. The newly renovated restaurant and the pleasing decor in the dining area must have put me in the right mood to clean off my plate. My wife and I came here for the weekend for her birthday and had fantastic food and drinks on Friday night. Stacey was awesome! We came back Saturday and they were slammed and had a rough go at it. I made one comment and the executive chef Daniel showed his true colors that he cares more about this place and his craft and made sure we had an awesome experience. Not only did he just take care of us, he made us the best food we have ever had. And it just totally flipped the script and we will be back again and again. I am only giving this a star because I have to. The experience was horrendous for three large reasons, those being the cleanliness, service, and lack of competent leadership. The cleanliness of the restaurant was poor and neglected. All of the water glasses were dirty and smudged. It looked like they have used the same dirty dish rag since the restaurant was first opened. The salt and pepper shakers were covered in smudges and hadn't looked like they had been cleaned in years. The waiters, waitresses, bus boys, and hostesses took no notice or cared about these blaring issues. The service was flat out awful. We were seated and it took close to 10 min before our order was even asked for. We had to ask to be served. Keep in mind our dirty water glasses weren't even filled yet. When they eventually were filled, the waitress took no notice to the filthy glasses, nor did they notice our disgust over her filling them in the state they were in. There were no salt or pepper shakers on the table. We had to ask for it. Once we got our dirty salt and pepper shakers, they were almost empty. The most apparent issue with the restaurant was the lack of competent leadership. The manager looked like she had been around since prohibition. That is no knock on older people in food service. There have been many older servers and managers who were rock stars at their jobs. This manager was no rock star. Her idea of management was sitting by the counter looking clueless. Her entire staff was walking around like chickens with their heads cut off, which several customers took notice of. The whole situation came to a head when one lady had the cajonas to walk into the kitchen to get her food. The manager eventually came over to address this issue. The customer and the manager made a huge scene in the middle of the restaurant that was embarrassing and uncomfortable. I have had poor service before, but this one took the cake, which we also weren't offered. It was dirty, Uninviting, and a disgrace to an otherwise beautiful resort. It was clear the main issue was a lack of competent leadership. Which transferred down into a lazy, apathetic, and downright rude staff. Save yourself the trouble and order Pizza Hut the next time you visit. read more

My family went here for the Sunday brunch. Initially I found the lunch fork first by accident. The salmon was delicious very moist with good flavor. Adding the crab meat to my salad was also very good. The breakfast only consisted of an omelet bar, cheese eggs, waffles, and bacon and sausage. The only was very good and so was the sausage. The food here is pretty sub par. My family and I stayed at the resort for my mom's birthday. The first day we were pretty tired so we decided not to cook or drive out of the resort. We found the Canyon Grille a very convenient location. The entrance of the restaurant is pretty confusing. there's 2 doors. the one on the left is for if you don't have a reservation. The one of the right is for reservations only. Once our family arrived, we were promptly seated at their outdoor patio area. The ambiance isn't amazing but it's clean enough and comfortable enough. For dinner, they offer buffet or you can just order off the menu. We took a look at the buffet... it's pretty sad. Like Sizzlers sad. So we all opted to order off the menu. My sister and I were really excited that their menu features Surf and Turf with spotted Santa Barbara Prawns. My mom ordered the scampi pasta and my brother ordered the prime rib. SURF AND TURF w/ Spotted Santa Barbara Prawns: THESE WERE NOT SB SPOTTED PRAWNS. do not be tricked!! I was pretty disappointed. How can you advertise spotted prawns when you didn't use them?! rude!!!! The steak was OKAY. I could've just cooked it at home. The meat quality wasn't anything amazing. NO FLAVOR. Shrimp Scampi Pasta: this was HORRIBLE. The noodles were soggy and sitting in a bed of oil. The shrimp was tasteless. My poor mom only had 2 bites of her dinner. Of course we all shared what we ordered with her since her plate sucked. Prime Rib: this was pretty average. they're lucky Prime Rib comes with Au Jus. The Au Jus was the savior of this dish. I ended up dipping my NY strip steak in it since my steak had no flavor. cliffnotes advise: if you're looking for a quick meal and you don't care about taste; Canyon Grille may be an okay choice. The waiter had told me the plate only came with two shrimp and for $24, I thought they'd at least be good sized shrimp but no. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was more on the medium side. I wanted to send it back but it seemed like it'd be a hassle because the waiter also messed up the other dishes we ordered. So we sat down, and I heard the table next to to us complaining about how long it was taking for their food (they ordered 40mins ago), and then the table across the aisle from us was complaining that she was still waiting for a refill on coffee and her husband was still waiting for his first coffee. While the grounds and villas are gorgeous, something seriously needs to be done about first of all, the carpets, second, if members are complaining about the service over and over, why not address the issue and add more staff. There are a lot of tables for one person to tend to. We certainly pay enough to cover that. So by just the disgusting carpets, I would not eat here. We ate here three times this past weekend and sampled their burgers, caesar salad, omelettes (perfect like I've never had), french toast, pancakes, bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast. The menu was Americana, and the food was well prepared. We weren't sure going in, but came back twice! I think a lot of old people must come here, because the food is prepared to exacting specs, from the generous bacon to the medium sized pancakes (unless you get them at the buffet) to the moderate amount of dressing on the salads. Even the omelette was perfectly balanced, which i've NEVER had. Don't expect to be surprised by your order, and expect to enjoy your meal, so long as you remember that you're ordering Americana, and not American Fusion. read more
