We have been clients of Canyon Pet Hospital for 7 years, we've taken our 3 dogs there without issue, until recently. Our dogs are all relatively healthy and we've not had many health concerns. Our oldest dog started acting out of character and Dr. Nye suggested anxiety was the cause. I hired a dog trainer to help us, she suggested it was a behavioral issue, I hired a behavioral specialist and she suggested it was a physical issue. So I've got three professionals, all telling me something different and I've got to get to the bottom of it. The behavioralist suggested a fully sedated exam. We went for the exam and I was presented the estimate which I approved. I specifically asked her "if there's something wrong with my dog, you're doing all the tests to find it?" She assured me everything on the estimate was everything and I budgeted for the high end of the estimate, because it's always the high end. Fast forward to the next day when the results didn't show anything, but now there another test that's $200 that will show anything additional. We're up to $1k at this point. Naturally this was on a Friday, Dr. Nye was off and was of no help. This is where it takes a turn for the worse: the office manager Christy was the one I had to talk to and she was completely condescending and showed a total lack of empathy. It boggles my mind that she is allowed to talk to clients. She is not a vet, she is not qualified to speak about testing. She told me "I've worked with specialists and that's not how it is." Christy is a liability to your business and we will not be coming back 100% because of her. I did not deserve to be talked down too, this situation was clearly beyond her scope of knowledge, and to have it happen during such an emotional time when I've been doing everything in my power for months to find out what was wrong with my dog. I made the difficult choice to put my dog down on Easter Sunday. Canyon Pet didn't even send a card. I want to thank Linda at the front desk for always being so great to us over the years and also Taylor who was nothing but kind and gentle with us the past few months. *I see that Christy is the one that replies to Yelp reviews, please do not have her reply to me. She's shown what kind of person she is, and I want no more interaction with her. read more

We moved to Oregon in 2021 and have been taking our little dog here since then. We just got back from a road trip and had put him in doggie daycare at least 1/2 dozen times. He has developed a terrible cough. We tried several over the weekend with no luck. I left a message for our vet Canyon Pet Hospital and Claire called us early Monday morning and said there were no openings and they couldn't fit him in. She also said "if you fell off a ladder and broke your leg would you expect your Dr. to fit you in?" She is very rude and we will not go back to them in the future! I called other vets trying to find help for our dog and they were very nice and couldn't believe she said that! I did find one and they are more compassionate. read more

I've brought our cats here for several years. I appreciate that they don't push me into doing more than I wish to for my three cats. I think cats (and people, for that matter) are better off with less aggressive treatment in many cases. For instance, they biopsied a bump on my cat's leg and I watched it for 2 weeks, then it went away. There was no need to send the sample for a $200 pathology analysis. I appreciate that I am always given options. And that Dr. Boothe always admires my beautiful kitties! : ) They also were compassionate and skilled in managing my cat's euthanasia a few years ago. Much better than our previous vet, who treated it like just another procedure. read more

We have gone to canyon pet hospital for years now. We see Dr. Baucum and he has been wonderful with all 4 of our dogs over the years. Our first dog was 14 and became very ill and it was time to say goodbye. All of the staff was very kind and respectful for the difficult visit. They gave us as much time as we wanted before needing to say goodbye. One of our female dogs has some hormone issues. When we first noticed a problem they were able to diagnose her quickly and gave us a supplement to help. This past year we got a puppy (our first puppy as all our other dogs were adults when we got them). They have been beyond amazing with him. During puppy's first visit they told us to come in whenever we wanted to get him weighed or just to saw hi to make the vet a positive experience. Puppy has also had two injuries in his short life, one where he cut his paw and another where a dog attacked him. Both times they handled him with care and were very reassuring. They even called a week after each of those appointments to check on how he was doing. The staff at the front are friendly and I love all the vet techs we've had. read more

To say I've been obsessed with my beloved dog is a severe understatement. When I first adopted Wes he was approximately 4 years old (previous owners weren't sure) and I was already kind of bummed I'd missed 4 years with him. To make up for it I was obsessed with giving him the best, healthiest life. I spent so much time researching his breed and dog health. I went to various vets listening intently as they assessed him. We learned how to communicate with each other, him asking to be let out or go on a walk, my asking him to come cuddle. I stopped or never returned to vets who tried to get me to give him too many irrelevant to his lifestyle vaccines (I'm pro vaccine but some just weren't for him), I fed him a healthy, carefully researched diet. I was careful with his dog food and if he was trying something new, I introduced it slowly, etc. All of this is to give a small taste. I unfortunately didn't find Canyon until the worst of times and I'm sad for not finding them sooner. They met me at my most vulnerable and scared. Every single interaction was kind, informative, sensitive, and compassionate. I emailed with someone for a few days prior to making the appointment I was terrified of making. I met with Dr. Boothe and much time was taken with me and my pup, discussing his health. Front check in/out was kind and gentle with me, the tech as well. I have never cried as much as I have these past few weeks leading up to our vet visits last week and through now. Everyone here was so kind and gentle with my fragile state. When my dog's pawprint was ready to be picked up, I saw the voicemail left and sobbed but even the message was full of kindness and well wishes. I stopped in to pick it up today, a week since saying goodbye to my best friend. I couldn't speak and thankfully didn't have to. I think I nodded and tried to say thank you. I need you all to know, thank you. An awful time in my life could have been made far worse if this place didn't exist. My brother and I (and our family) are grateful for everyone's time and gentle care. We have a giant Wes shaped hole in our hearts but I know he's running around free, reunited with his beloved sister and eating all the things. read more

However the front desk ladies are the worst - my wife was in the middle of asking them questions so we could consider scheduling another appointment for our dogs but the lady that she was talking to just walked away mid-conversation. You can just tell something is different here when you walk through the door. The last couple of vet's I have been to have been sort of dark and dreary, but this place is really bright and upbeat. I always felt like they cared about my pet, and they always told me ahead of time what they would be doing and what it would cost. They called during the day to check up on things and to go over results and to let me know all the options, I felt like I was in very good hands. And I will say, when out of nowhere the worst happened and I was really lost, I ended up calling them and they took care of everything for me. I don't really know what I would have done without them. When I have another pet I will definitely be using them again. read more

Of all the vets I've been to over the years and across the country, this is one of the better ones. The doctors are knowledgable and seem to really like the pets. The lack of up-selling is a breath of fresh air, although a little still goes on. I feel like all businesses do this in some way, it's how they make some money. So I don't mind a little as long as it's reasonable, which I feel like this is. I would definitely recommend if you're in the area and are tired of the box store vet offices. read more

do not go to this Vet! We have brought both our cat and dog here and have been disappointed in service, expense, and care. We recently brought our sick cat to them. They gave him fluids and antibiotics and did some testing and sent him home within an hour not even knowing what the problem was. Gave us some pills (more antibiotics for what we don't know), and telling us to bring him back in 2 weeks for follow up. In the next days we heard nothing from them and thought at one point he was dying. We tried to get the pills down but were having a lot of trouble (we've had a lot of pets and done this a lot but every animal is different!). I called and left a message as they're hours are short and the vets take a 12-2 lunch, asking if there was an alternative to the pills. About a day later got a message from the receptionist saying no, the doctor could give another shot but didn't want to - they could teach us how to "pill" a cat. Really? No call from the vet, no follow up - nothing. The receptionist both in person and on the phone is at the very least not helpful, and at her "finest" is rude. Both of us have experienced this. At the point of bringing him in the cat wasn't even eating, but the vet couldn't help trying to upsell us on their very expensive food. Really? At this point he wasn't even eating and you're trying to upsell us? It was a very expensive trip with no results, suggestions, follow up. We have had other vets that always call to see how things are going, but this is the first vet we have really felt there is no care at all for either pets or humans. short hours, long lunches and quick care. We have since brought him elsewhere where they are testing for Cancer and other things. It has been cheaper and the vet actually called us on a Sunday while the clinic was closed to follow up. that says care to me. We have also taken our dog here of which she is not a vet dog and is a challenge. They told us she was not welcome back unless she took drugs they sold us. Another red flag was when the Lady vet told my husband a couple years ago how we needed the best fleas medicine because of what a MILD winter we had. I have been here since 82 and never seen a winter as bad. It was the year it snowed from October - March. Schools were closed practically all year. We had snow and ice throughout. I don't know where she's from but here? That's a bad winter. Again selling, selling, selling. Their office call is one of the most expense and includes nothing especially for our dog of which they have trouble doing the basics but are sure to charge us. We just got a voicemail about shots due for our dog. They couldn't call us to see if our cat was ok as he might be dying, but have no problem calling for shots for yet another office call? The other red flag was with the shots. Our dog went in for something other than shots but was due but they didn't do the shots in the same visit - that requires another Office call right? Our new vet is like an old vet we had that retired years ago. You can feel the care factor right away. When the vet called yesterday (Sunday)we thanked him for calling on his day off. His response was, "well I can't control when pets are sick." Wow. Our cat might die and Dr Baucman could have cared less. We felt like we were on a desert island and his receptionist(nurse ratchitt), is no help either. We are sorry we wasted our time and hope it's not too late for our young boy. You just assume vets care - beware not all do - it's about the money. sad but true! read more

If you are a veterinary technician looking for work don't bother they don't want techs. They are looking for medical transcribers. Don't apply unless you know cornerstone software and can type 60+ wpm. Even then if your hospital doesn't use or didn't use same diets and medications as they do you are incompetent or your practice was beneath their standards. I didn't listen to the person who told me. Found out she was right. Dr. are fine hosp manager thinks she is Gods gift. read more

Called to ask some questions and was seriously disappointed in the customer service I received. It was like pulling teeth to find out the cost of my pets monthly medication. Finally she gave me a price per pill. (For the record it would save me roughly $15 a month). This place was recommended to me, but I'm still looking for a veterinarian. read more

About a week ago I brought my dog in for a check up with Doctor Baucum. He needed his shots, and also I needed consultation on a lump on his ear - which sadly turned out to be a mast tumor. :( Throughout the time needed between learning of his tumor, to getting the appropriate treatment, he gave me all the details via email, and even called me in between to give reassurance, which really helped give me some peace of mind. During that time he also went out of his way to consult a surgeon who has experience with mast tumors on the ear, and they gave some really valuable information which guided him to a safe and in-tact recovery! For a few days I was fretting over my pup losing his cute little ear, and so I am happy that we had found an alternative. In a few days I will be returning for him to remove his stitches, and I won't be dreading the return to the vet. :) Also I want to say, just in general, the staff here is SUPER nice. The receptionists are all smiles, and the vet staff are very friendly people who clearly love animals. They also go out of their way to really help you (and boy, do I need all the help I can get when it comes to vet care). Thank you so much! read more

I brought our maltese to Canyon Pet Hospital for over ten years. If your pet is healthy, for the most part, Canyon will be fine for annual check ups and minor health issues. However, if your pet develops something serious, I would recommend going to a newer, state-of-the-art facility like Cascade Vet. Referral Center in Tigard. Our beloved maltese developed a nasty cough pretty suddenly - and after multiple office visits, two X-rays, three doses of antibiotics, different/more heart meds, and over $1,500 in vet bills, our maltese never seemed to get better. At our last visit 1.5 wks ago, I was told to increase one medication until he improved. He never did. Turned out our maltese was misdiagnosed with a heart issue (common in small breeds of this age) but that was not what was causing the cough. And his prescribed heart meds never improved his cough. Sadly, last Tuesday, our little guy went into respiratory distress and nearly died on the way to the emergency vet hospital. Can you imagine how awful it was, driving as fast as I could at 5:00 am while my dog suffered and gasped and gasped for any air he could get? I felt totally helpless. The vet hospital was able to tell from X-ray that his bronchial tubes had collapsed due to inflammation and was put on emergency oxygen and steroids. He was NOT in heart failure. Unfortunately, it was too late for our little guy and we had to put him down as he was suffering and collapsed bronchi are not reparable. In retrospect, I wish I had obtained a second opinion from a different office. Perhaps we could have caught this before it progressed? Perhaps other offices have newer equipment or more-qualified radiologists? I always felt that the Canyon vet never seemed to act like the coughing was very serious - just assumed the most common cause, enlarged heart. We had to postpone our Thanksgiving to allow our family time to grieve...and the emptiness/guilt felt by everyone in our family is palpable because we did not know how sick he was. He still ate and drank like normal albeit with an awful cough. We did not get to see or say a decent goodbye until he was drugged up and spitting up pink, bloody fluid - I'm not sure if he even recognized us. And then my young-adult daughter had to "hold" him one last time after he had already been put to sleep. She needed to do this for her own closure and healing. Seeing my weeping daughter hold and cuddle our now dead and frozen boy will be an image forever seared in my mind. We truly feel blessed to have had our maltese share in our family for the past ten years. I know he had more years to share and we feel that those years were taken from us. It's been nearly three days now that our dog has passed and my eyes still are "leaking." I felt I had to share our experience as therapy for me as well as hopefully saving another family from the trauma we experienced. I am having a hard time forgiving myself for blindly following vet protocol when my intuition was screaming "something's not right!" Please do not make the same mistake. read more

Absolutely incredible staff from the moment you enter the facility to the time you leave. The vets are amazing, as goes for the support staff. Initially came upon Canyon Pet Hospital from a friend's recommendation because Petsmart would NOT board our elderly dog due to her age and preexisting heart condition (boo!). Ended up taking her here and boarding her over a couple of long weekends. If I wasn't already on a wellness plan with Petsmart, I would by all means take my next pet here. What a group of outstanding people! I've been bringing my pack of dogs here for years. With two seniors and a puppy, I've been in quite a lot this last year especially. I have never felt pressured to buy services or products, I can usually get an appointment same day and they answer every question I have fully. I never feel like they're rushing in and out of the exam and they truly care about their patients. All of my questions get answered fully whether I am there for an office visit or not. For example, when trying a new medication, I had some questions and I was able to email and get a thorough response from my vet the same day. They've had the same techs for several years which is a great sign. We see Dr. Bacaum and Dr. Boothe - they're both fantastic! I cannot say enough good things about them. read more

SCAMMERS!!!! They gave our dog fleas and then tried charging us exorbitant amounts for flea medicine. Meanwhile, my dog is still suffering because they can't figure out what's wrong. I just took my greyhound here today for the first time, and I am already hooked! Dr. Boothe is so knowledgeable about greyhounds (they really are that different) that it immediately put me at ease. Unlike many of the vets I've encountered, she was friendly, had a personality and didn't seem like she was trying to rush us out. She took the time to listen to us, and I felt like her recommendations were based on what was best for our hound, and not what was the most expensive options. I've been taking my pets (a Chihuahua, a Pom-chi, and two Maine Coons) to Canyon Pet for the better part of ten years now. All of the staff, from the front desk to the techs to the doctors, have always been nothing but friendly. And the medical care my pets have received has always been stellar. I typically see Dr. Baucum, who provides fantastic care for my pets. But all of the doctors here are really good, and genuinely seem to enjoy their work. They're also really good about follow-up. Anytime I bring in my pets for anything other than a check-up, the staff will call a few days later to see how they're doing. And when my beloved 18 year-old Maine Coon became very ill and had to be put down (I still miss him), Dr. Baucum was very compassionate about the whole thing. They even sent a nice card a few days later, which actually meant a lot to me. I have no reservations about recommending Canyon Pet for anyone looking for a vet in the Beaverton area. read more

Best vet visit I've ever had! I brought my dog in for the first time this past week...I've never been into a vet office where the staff are so friendly and helpful. In my experience, many vets try to sell you products and services you don't really need for super high prices, then make you feel like an abusive, terrible pet owner if you don't have the money or want to buy the 10 products they tell you you need to get rid of a little rash. Dr Bill Baucum (who I met with) was extremely honest and helpful with diagnosing my dog. He didn't try to sell me anything, in fact he told me to just go to the grocery store to pick up cheaper versions of products. He was super informative and helpful and not at all pushy or condescending. On top of that great customer service, he and the nurse were both amazing interacting with my dog. She tends to get a little timid and anxious while at the vet (like many dogs). Rather than putting her up on an examination table and putting her in an uncomfortable position, they sat down on the floor with her to do her examination. It really helped her to calm down and made the visit go a lot smoother. I am so glad I chose to try this hospital out, finding a good and trustworthy vet is not very easy, but these guys are the best. I highly recommend their services to any and all pet owners, you won't be disappointed. read more
