I have never met such a kind staff! We had to bring our elderly dog in for humane euthanasia because of quality of life issues. From the moment we met Justin at the front desk, we could see the kindness in his eyes as he let us know he would get us in a room right away even though we were early. The vet tech and doctor were equally as kind, explaining the process and giving us lots of choices. When I returned today for the ashes, again I met kind Justin at the front who left what he was doing to get the ashes for me. We are so grateful. Not a good first impression. Beware this clinic lacks empathy and compassion for their customers and only care about their monetary gains. I'm a new customer and I had to put down a $90 deposit (which is weird, but if you don't miss your appointment you get it back). Well I got into a car accident and was waiting for a tow truck, and while I'm trying to figure out who will pick up my daughter from daycare they call me to tell me I'm late. I had planned on calling them but my daughter and tow truck came first. I explained to the receptionist what happened and she told me I would need another deposit to reschedule. Meaning, I am out the first deposit. To me it feels like they are not in the business of their community as they cared more about their deposit than keeping a customer. The $90 was not that big of a deal, but the lack of compassion made me turned off from establishing care at this location. read more

Wow, from first greeting and emails setting up our first appointment to meeting the doctor staff and service was excellent! Our Pomeranian had been a client at another local vet since a puppy 4 years ago, then in December we were notified they would be closing. We began looking for a new local vet. Mountainside quickly replied to my inquiry, Isabelle was helpful and prompt in telling me next steps. I stopped by with a credit card to put on file and a deposit Julien helped me, he was bubbly, helpful, and detailed in sending me information. On our first visit, we saw Steve W, not the vet we had scheduled, but he came in, said that another dog was having a fear of males and asked if would it be okay to swap. Amazing staff. Able to see me same day for my pet. Got me everything needed and now my pet is doing great. They check on you day after via text just in case something is wrong too. It was busy and the receptionists still made sure everyone was checked in and good to go, all while cracking some jokes with us and others too. Vet herself explained everything so well. Okay so I brought my dog a long while ago to get her nails grinded down... they charged me $40, and the nails were just as sharp and long as when I brought them in. The only benefit at that time was that I was able to bring her in without much notice... now they require faxed in proof of vaccinations from my dog's current vet, proof of shots, etc to even express anal her glands. I'd rather drive the 25 minutes to her usual vet than pay an exorbitant amount for poor results. read more

This is by far the best animal clinic I have ever been to. Dr Haley and his staff are all so wonderful. After seeing them for several years I had the unfortunate decision to make when my dog developed cancer. He met with me many times before and gave me sound, professional and caring direction. Thank you to the team at Mountainside for seeing our dog today -- in what felt like an emergency (bee sting and reaction to sting). After administering Benadryl, I rushed to MS without an appointment and called them from outside. They understood the situation and saw our dog within 10 minutes. The Vet met with me within five minutes after her exam. I was so nervous since she is allergic to bee stings. Within minutes, I was told to not worry, she is OK and I could take her home or leave her to rest. I decided to leave her to rest for an hour or so. The team at MS is excellent. When our old vet was unable to fit our dog in for sick visits, we transferred care to Mountainside. Our old vet was less than 5 minutes away, and Mountainside is 18-30 minutes away depending on traffic. And still, I'd make the switch a thousand times over. The staff and vets at Mountainside are the best. They always fit us in when it's important and make my anxious pit mix (Cupcake Jake) feel loved and appreciated. Over the last year, they helped Jake vomit up a fuzzy rainbow candy-shaped toy that he swallowed whole and let marinate in his stomach for 1.5 weeks; they removed a large amorphous tumor from his chest; they got him on meds to treat his anxiety so he could sleep through the night; and they referred me to an excellent specialist when his tumor required advanced care. I never feel like they pressure me into unnecessary testing or treatments. I trust what they tell me. I could not ask for anything more from a vet clinic. read more

I moved from New Orleans to the Portland area. In my search for the best medical attention possible for my 11 year old French bulldog and my 7 year old rescue mixed breed I saw 3 different vets. Finding Dr. Steve Haley was a stroke of luck. Both of my dogs have issues. The FBD suffered from extreme allergies and has a hip issue. After 7 years of oral medication and monthly shots for his allergies Dr. Haley diagnosed him with a protein allergy. He has put him on a prescription food. A complete game changer for my pup. He also has taken him off the oral meds for hip pain that was causing my pup to be lethargic. My dog is living his best life now. I was extremely impressed with the attention Dr.Haley showed my dogs. He treated both dogs with kindness and respect. When he watched my Frenchie walk and took the time to ask the right questions about his health history I felt confident I had found our vet. In a review here I read one review that was complaining about cost. I agree that it's not cheap but in my life I have come to understand that you get what you pay for. Dr.Haley has an amazing staff, his office is clean, in a nice location and he offers the best medical service available. All of this cost money. I feel that what I pay is a fair price for the service I receive. I recommend Dr. Haley to anyone that wants excellent health care for their pet. read more

I am consistently impressed with the care my pup gets from Mountainside Veterinary. I've been taking my 3 year old dog there for about 1 1/2 years. From front office to vet techs to vets, they really listen. Staff are gentle, positive and caring. They are knowledgeable and patient, and they follow up by phone or email if there is an ongoing issue. The vets don't over treat, which I really appreciate...so many issues with dogs (as with humans) are hard to diagnose and it can take time. I'm glad they didn't throw antibiotics in "just in case" but reassured me that we had some time to find out exactly what the issue might be. I'm especially impressed by the way the front office staff do their jobs -- they are well trained and have access to the needed information on my dog. At our prior vet, I found the front office folks to be quite disconnected from the care of the patients, and also pressured and abrupt. RUN! Do not walk, but run away from this place to another vet--ANY VET--to get proper care for your beloved pet! Incompetence doesn't even begin to describe the vets here. I brought my Shihtzu in to be examined because her rear end was driving her crazy and she couldn't stop licking it. They expressed her anal glands, which they said were extremely full, and said she'd be fine. She continued to frantically lick her tear end all night and the next day. I called them to let them know that she was still very upset and they told me to give her some Benadryl. She continued to be bothered by her rear end, so instead of calling again, we stopped in, since they are nearby, and another vet examined her now RED and SWOLLEN anus and offered some 'ointment' to be applied externally. I asked if she needed antibiotics because this seemed to be an infection and I've had a Shihtzu before whose anal glands had become so impacted that they created an infection, and the vet said that despite the red swollen appearance that she didn't think my ShihTzu needed any antibiotics. So I took the ointment and began applying it immediately. It is now *4 days later,* and my ooor dog is lethargic and won't eat so I texted the vet again asking if I could come by and pick up some antibiotics and told them all this information and how she is becoming despondent. They wanted me to make ANOTHER appointment to bring her into see a THIRD vet, bc 'they were quite certain this was 'just an inflammatory reaction and that she didn't need antibiotics.' I mean *how sick does your poor pet have to be to deserve medication?! unbelievable. I told him if I was taking my dog to another vet for this issue it would most certainly not be them! I mean, does this look like an infected butthole to you? I took this photo two days ago and faxed it to the vet. read more

I was a first-time client, and from the moment I arrived, I knew this clinic was an incredible (and rare) find. We were immediately greeted by the reception staff with genuine warmth, compassion and respect. I felt valued as a client. They listened patiently when I spoke, and truly understood my needs. The clinic atmosphere was calm and tranquil, which put my anxious dog at ease. Dr. Haley provided exceptional care. He personally called me twice while my dog was there. He took the time to thoroughly look over previous vet and histopathology records before performing surgery, and shared his observations with me. This clinic is amazing in so many ways!! They were recommended to us by a previous vet when we moved--and thank goodness! We've had some unexpected challenges with our two dogs recently, and Mountainside has impressed us at every turn. They are on time, up front about costs, accommodating, and very professional. Getting to this clinic is a bit of a drive for us, but it is 100% worth it for the quality of care. Dr. Cheshier in particular has helped us navigate heartworm treatment for our dog Hubert. It's a complicated, lengthy process that requires challenging decisions, and she guided us through each step with expertise and honesty. Meanwhile, our 4-month puppy, Noodle, recently ate something that made her very sick, and we were able to drop her off immediately for care. Dr. Cheshier's clear communication and compassionate guidance turned a stressful situation into a manageable one. Same goes for the techs and all of the staff--it's clear they genuinely care about the animals they work with.
