Even with the 2.5 star rating, my coworkers and I decided to try out Canz when we got off. I've been to the one out in Astoria and had no idea there was one in Westbury. The $25 fishbowl was enough to get me in the door at least! We were seated immediately on a Saturday evening. We were a party of 4 that soon turned into a party of 7 and they didn't mind at all. It's definitely a sports bar. They had at least a half dozen televisions with a different sports game on each. We came mostly for drinks, so only about two plates hit the table: Chicken quesadillas and a pulled pork sandwich. The quesadillas were average. I added jalapenos for an extra kick. The sour cream must have came right out of the freezer. Dipping was impossible so I had to manually spread it out. I didn't try it, but the crew seemed to enjoy the pulled pork sandwich. We all got fishbowls (14 shots of alcohol apparently) for the most part. I, personally, got The Hulk. It tasted like juice, but if there's anything I learned from college, it's that those drinks are the deadliest. We also tried the Canz Bomber. For those that never had a Bomb before, it's just a shot dropped into a glass then chugged. This Canz Bomber came in a neat contraption that held four glasses and four shot glasses above each. Press the button on top, the shots drop, and you and your friends scramble to down each one respectively. This experience alone gained them 1 star! However, the service is seriously lacking. Our waitress was super nice and attentive while we were still a party of 4. As the night went on and others joined, she eventually stopped coming to the table altogether. There was even one guy at the table who wanted food and ended up snacking on the pulled pork sandwich because the wait was not worth it. We even got a couple of drinks at the bar because of that. All in all, Canz serves its purpose. I would definitely come back for a fishbowl or quick after-work drink, but it does not make my list of destination spots when planning out an evening. read more

The downside is the service I ate my whole meal with an empty glass in front of me and no one ever asked if I wanted a drink. When you walk in you need earplugs. The music was BLASTING. If there's one thing I cant stand its shouting across the table because my friend and I could't hear each other. Our waitress was nice but looked 16; I could help but ask how old she was and she replied she was 20. Is that legal to have an underage waitress serve beer? I had a veggie burger. The burger was really good but it didnt come with coleslaw, a pickle and avocado ranch dressing like it stated on the menu. I loved canz but unfortunately my last two visits the food has been horrible. This is the first time we did take out and we ordered loaded tater tots they had a very small amount of cheese on them and nothing else no bacon no ranch. The burgers were ordered medium rare and they came well done the bacon was burnt and the chicken melt we ordered was so over cooked that you could not bite through it. This place was a lot smaller than expected and overall a great disappointment. I went there with a party of nine for a birthday. The bartender had an attitude problem. Our waitress was "extremely" slow with our drink orders and the place was not that crowded. We consistently had to wait for a drink and/or just to have the waitress come to our table to take a new drink order. It seemed she was hanging out with her friends and the bouncer most of the evening and it was a bother for her to pay attention to the patrons. The only reason I gave it a star is because the food was OK. Go to Hooters, you will have a better time. After a couple of rounds the waitress offered a free round, but was pushing for shots. We ordered a round of shots, which had very little alcohol in them. When the bill came there was a $60 charge for 9 shots and then a deduction for the $60. I could count on one hand how many times I've been to canz and it's always packed. I mean how could it not be with good selection of drinks and food. Combine that with great service and you have a new go to spot. The bartender Gina usually serves us and she's always fast and efficient even when it's hectic in there (especially during karaoke night) haha. I'm afraid the "Two Stars" has everything to do with the service, and nothing at all to do with the food. When I first heard of Canz, I thought it was an interesting concept... but if you're going to mimic a major, well-known chain (Hooters), you have to be AT LEAST as good (and preferably BETTER) than the chain you're emulating. In this case, when walking into Canz for the first time, the only clue you have that you're NOT in a Hooters is the uniforms the girls wear (and even that isn't a dead giveaway if Hooters is having one of their "Theme Nights"). The menu is much more extensive, however, so it looked promising. Our server was very nice, very friendly, and very attentive, always checking up on us to see if we had everything we needed. I decided to do a direct comparison to Hooters by ordering their Buffalo-style chicken wings. Just like Hooters, there is an extra charge for bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks. My dining companion ordered the "Grilled BBQ Sirloin Burger" (ordered "medium"). The wings arrived smothered in sauce (not a good sign; I prefer my wings tossed and drained) with a little tiny cup of bleu cheese dressing and a few celery sticks. My first bite into a wing was a major disappointment. The sauce was spicy, but it had an overpowering SOUR taste. I have no idea what they used in the sauce but it was terrible. The wings themselves were large and meaty, but I just couldn't get past the taste. My friend's burger was cooked "well done" (NOT "medium") and he complained how dry the patty was. He also complained about his French Fries being overdone. The dessert menu looked impressive, but our first impressions on the overall quality of the food left us both deciding to just go home and have ice cream there. Canz is brand new... and if they survive the next few years MAYBE I'll go back to see if they've improved, but in the meantime the owner was nice enough to open his restaurants near a Hooters restaurant, so I think you're better off going to the original and giving Canz a pass (for now). read more

1) They don't have ribs, which is the whole reason why I picked this place to begin with. I don't know if I hallucinated when I looked at their online menu prior to visiting this place but I could have sworn they were on the menu. 2)The food was blah: The chicken wings tasted like they were freezer burned, the cheeseburger sliders had barely any taste and the buns were too big for the meat (I hate that). 3)I felt like the waitress didn't want to be there, and apparently she didn't want me to be there either because she brought the check when I was still eating my dinner. She also could have upped the bill by asking if I wanted dessert or more drinks but apparently it wasn't on her agenda. I also had a $25 gift certificate and instead of taking the $25 off the bill, she took 25% off which ended up being around $10. After pointing it out to her she didn't even say anything she just took my bill back with a huff and walked away to change it. (I'm pretty sure she was hoping I wouldn't notice, but luckily I know how to read and do math). 4)The music they had was good (I love alternative rock) but it wasn't filtered and at least two songs blasted cuss words, while little kids and their families ate their food. Conclusion: You are much better off going to Miller's, Chili's, Friday's, Applebee's (ok maybe not Applebees). You will get better food and better service and they will probably get your bill right. On the upside they do have a decent beer selection (They have Oskar Blues Ten Fidy) so maybe getting a drink there during a game would be worth a shot if you are desperate. read more

Absolutely terrible service. The waitresses are confused if you order more than one drink, and need to write them all down just to remember. Our waitress forgot to order our TWO appetizers and still couldn't remember them when she came back to ask us again. She not once came to check on how we were doing or asked if everything was okay. I had to remind her that I would like a water, which she then neglected to give to me anyway. I asked another waitress which also ignored my request. The waitresses were rude and exhibited a total disregard for their clients. When I decided I was not going to give her a tip, she showed me a sign with MANDATED an 18% tip, probably because they were giving beyond sub par service and not getting any tips. NEVER going back. Absolutely horrendous. The only good thing that came out of that experience is that she forgot to charge us for a beer- again evidencing her awful memory. UPDATE: it was a group of 3, so not sure why gratuity was included. When we questioned her she pointed to a sign that said 18% tip is automatic with no limitations as to party size, so I'm not sure if your staff is aware of those restrictions. read more

We told her we would take care of her, give a great tip, but that we just didn't have an easy way to split up the bill. The place has that "hot chicks serving you" theme going on, so if you're a loner that needs to talk to a girl or to check out some nice "canz", then this is your place. You're suppose to "agitate" the beer by rolling the can, the waitress just opened it. After I told her the proper way to serve it, she came with another can but shook this one. Obviously it sprayed everywhere. Not too bright. She also seemed to struggle when taking our order and obviously was not familiar with their menu. When we finally got our food after waiting 40 minutes it was terrible. Half our order came at once and then the rest 20 minutes later. The fried mac and cheese was just macaroni in dough that you dip in gravy?! Disgusting. The bok choy burger was actually very good and cooked exactly how I ordered it. My boyfriend got a fried chicken sandwich which he enjoyed. Their fried oreos for dessert was so good. The atmosphere was very cheesy, you feel like you're sitting in an old garage. I typically come here on a weekly basis, during evening hours. Understandable, during covid, there will be changes to protocol and procedure. Today, Presidents' Day, at approximately 5pm, I was advised that a credit card deposit was needed to order, at our table of two. The waitress only came back to tell us this, after placing our order. She was clearly directed to come back and do so. It's noted on their menu that this deposit is at the discretion of the Canz girl. Either way, I advised I hadn't brought a credit card, and was told to leave a deposit of $100. I can tell by the managers demeanor who came over and requested it, that she expected me to contest this. I didn't. I passed a $100 bill at the request of a Manager, "Ms. Nique". She was not only rude, but once I stated that this all boils down to service, she said to go somewhere else if that's how I feel. She continued to go on, saying that all of 2021 this has been standard. I know this not to be true at certain times, as mentioned, I frequent this bar. Now this is despite the fact I passed her $100 which I thought was absurd, but still did. I didn't contest it, but instead asked to just place my order. She was upset and although had my deposit in hand, continued to try and argue with me. Ultimately, I did as she requested and went elsewhere. Long story short, my female friend and are are of African American descent. I enjoy Canz and the staff, however this manager is not what or who I am a custom too at this establishment. She definitely does not meet the friendly and nice standard that I am acustom to. This was quite embarrassing. Once again, I understand things change, however policy's should be set as a clear standard. Beyond this, I feel as though she used her "discretion" in a bias manner. Completely Dissatisfied. I feel like I can't even give a proper review because there was nothing for me to review. I was not served at all. From the start, the wait to be seated was long; we were standing at the greeting bench and there was no one there to greet us. We finally get approached to be seated to look over the menu - we were seated on the above level, and there's a good amount of people in place. 10, 15, 20, 25 minutes pass by and we have not been acknowledged at all at this point; the hostess that seated us even passed us TWICE ! She passed us to serve another table a pitcher on demand, and we're just sitting there with nothing. Not even water. There was no point of staying so we just walked out. As we walked out, the hostess even saw us and didn't even mention anything about not being attended to - it was ridiculous. This is my first time/impression of this place and it'll be my last. Canz have a good happy hour. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. My favorite is between the shrimp nachos or the disco fries. I went this Saturday with my sister for happy hour and the waitress Stephanie. She was amazing, attentive, and made us feel welcomed from the start.
