I haven't written a Yelp review in months, but my experience yesterday was so disappointing that I felt compelled to dust off my account. I stopped by this well-established "bakery" chain for a quick bite. I chose the Pinecrest location because I always thought it was the nicer one. Other locations, particularly Doral, leave a lot to be desired in terms of ambiance. That's not to say this location is anything extraordinary, but at least it feels like a place you'd actually want to sit down and visit. It's been a long time since I last came here. I can't remember if they always stayed open until 9 PM on regular days, but I distinctly remember that on weekends at least, they used to close around 6 PM, and that by 5:30 PM the kitchen was often already shutting down. Because I generally wake up around 2 or 3 PM on weekends, this place became impractical for me long ago. I eventually found far better options closer to home that stay open later and offer a much broader selection of bakery/pastry items, all-day breakfast, while also offering sandwiches, entrées, desserts, and just about everything else. Still, after years of rotating through the same places, my friend and I decided to venture out, especially since I had woken up "early" by my standards. We arrived around 5 PM and I was absolutely floored by the menu prices. Wagyu or not, a smash cheeseburger for $25? A seafood fettuccine for $36? At a 3.6-star corner bakery? Dishes that cost around $18 a few years ago, such as the Black Forest ham and cheese scramble with coffee and orange juice, are now effectively $24 once you add the $2 extra charge for the coffee and small orange juice that used to be included. That's a staggering 33% increase from what was already an expensive meal three years ago. And that percentage doesn't tell the whole story, because even back then their prices were already 30% to 50% higher than many of their competitors. And let's be honest: the supposedly superior ingredients didn't exactly create some unforgettable culinary experience. You'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between their Black Forest ham and the regular ham served elsewhere. Back to yesterday's visit. I had already driven there and didn't feel like searching for another place. Plus, my usual order at bakeries is a ham and cheese croissant, and that happened to be one of the few things on their menu that hadn't reached absurd pricing territory. At around $8, it's arguably one of their better deals, especially considering that a croissant filled with Nutella or some other typical filling costs roughly the same. Granted, it's not even a traditional ham and cheese croissant like the ones found in 99% of bakeries. It's a smaller version with the ham and cheese baked inside, almost like a pastelito. So when you factor this in, it's equally overpriced. Naturally, destiny enjoys playing jokes on me. The waitress informed me that they had already run out of croissants... at 5 PM... in a bakery supposedly known for its croissants. She then explained that they had shifted "more toward their bistro concept." I couldn't help but wonder: what bistro? Adding a few wildly overpriced restaurant dishes to your menu doesn't magically transform a bakery into a bistro. It simply gives the impression that you've drifted away from your original identity. And that's unfortunate because, as a French bakery, the selection here is already surprisingly limited. Compare them to competitors like Bonjour French Bakery and the difference becomes obvious. They simply can't compete. La Boulangerie mostly offers a handful of pastries and some jarred desserts and calls it a day. As for the coffee, both Bonjour French Bakery and Crema Gourmet Espresso Bar completely outclass them. Their coffee is richer, smoother, more flavorful, their prices are more reasonable, and their menus offer a broad selection, from all day breakfast to sandwiches, entrées, as well as pastas. Which brings me to the giant sign in the middle of the restaurant that proudly says "BAKERY" and to the word "BOULANGERIE" itself, the French term for a bakery specializing in bread and baked goods. Those words have never felt more irrelevant. There's a reason this place sits at a 3.6-star average rating as of this review. Had I seen that beforehand, I never would have driven this far based solely on memories from two years ago. I have a simple rule when it comes to restaurants: I don't go anywhere with less than four stars on Yelp. This visit was a good reminder of why. read more

Came here on a weekday for brunch and really loved the selection! I came here with a friend visiting from out of town and met I had to take her to a Miami staple! Although it's not the original location, this location offers plenty of parking and indoor and outdoor seating! You can either order at the counter or have a staff member take your order at the table. The food was really good, I got a bagel with lox and a coffee. Portions are great and coffee is good. Today I had the opportunity to stop by the Boulangerie to enjoy their delicious empanadas. As always, the place is spotless, full of life, and offers wonderful service, you're greeted with a smile the moment you walk in. Everything is fresh and made in-house, which truly makes a difference. My personal favorite is the beef empanada, but I've also come here for breakfast on other occasions, and it's absolutely delicious. Pricing has gotten outrageous here and service is still bad. $25 for eggs Benedict is robbery especially considering the bad service. They also no longer include coffee. The restaurant has potential, but my experience didn't quite live up to the expectations. The food was decent, but I found it a bit overpriced... $18 for a croissant felt a little excessive. I also ordered a latte with oat milk but was served one with whole milk instead. The latte itself was too heavy on the milk, so the coffee flavor was hard to enjoy. Got lunch with some friends, around 1pm, it was pretty busy and loud. The place inside very cute I must say, they did pay attention to all details inside. We ordered an onion soup which was delicious, but a bit overpriced for the portion. Also ordered a Nicoise Salad and a sandwich/salad plate. The Nicoise Salad was definitely turn down, it did not have haricot verts nor hard boiled eggs. Which are pretty essential for a Nicoise Salad. But oh well. I have tried better. When placing the order for the sandwich and salad, we requested HALF sandwich and no onions, even though the waitress did acknowledge those requests, the plate came with the full sandwich and onions..... This place is more hype. Plus the service was terrible. I understand the place was full, but our waitress took our order, delivered it and came back until we asked for the check. I've been here twice now so a proper review can be written factoring for consistency. If you're looking for a fancier type breakfast then your average diner or cuban bakery then this is your place. Just don't expect it to be cheap & don't expect a lot of space to eat as the tables are small & relatively close to each other. You'll have your pick from pastries, pancakes, croissants, & many other freshly baked items. Want to eat 15 servings worth of Nutella? They can help make it happen with a pastry or an espresso dripping from the sides of the cup. Presentation is pretty well done on most dishes & the flavor profiles are all there. I would like to see the bathrooms get a bit more attention. The door handles were in bad shape & just didn't meet expectations to match the rest of the restaurant's ambiance. The food & drinks overall are good & the service from staff is relatively quick. Expect a minimum of 20-30 mins wait for a table for 2 during peak breakfast or brunch hours. When you walk in, there is no one there to greet you, seat you, or let you know you can choose where to sit. It's uncomfortable. Our server could not speak English, brought my husband a soda but I had to ask a second time just for water, after a long wait to see the server again. My husband's lasagna was delicious, but even though he asked multiple times for butter for the bread, the server couldn't seem to bring it to the table. I ordered a salad with beets and goat cheese, usually a favorite dish of mine, and it was just awful. They tried very hard to make it unusual, and they succeeded in the most unfortunate way. It was alarming to look at, and harder to eat. I left most of it on the plate. We had to go to the pastry counter to get our check so we could pay and leave. They were too busy, and didn't have sufficient staff to take care of all the tables. We also bought some apple croissants to take home, and they were disappointing. I was thrown off by black olives (I always want kalamata) but it was still good. My bf had the huevos rancheros and he liked it. He would have liked the onions and peppers to be chopped down more but it's their style. Regular baguette option - I didn't know there were other options but the baguette was good. Arrived on a Sunday for lunch and didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant is pretty large and even with most tables being occupied we were seated immediately. We started off with empanadas and coffee. The coffee lacked espresso. The empanada was nothing special and I was shocked that it was almost $7. I could have gone to a local bakery and gotten the same thing half price. I ordered the croque madame. It was pretty average. Honestly, I could have made this at home and it would have been the same. The eggs that came on top were over cooked and the two tomatoes slices really did nothing for the dish. All in all for the price of the food here and the quality, I would never come back. I guess this restaurant is visually appealing for Instagram pictures and that's why people keep coming back but it's ridiculously expensive for what is served. I always enjoy ordering food from or eating at La Boulangerie in Pinecrest. The quiches are really good - both the spinach and mushroom. They come with a side salad, as well. The nutella croissant is delicious and full of a lot of nutella (get extra napkins)! The orange juice is also really fresh. I need to try other food, but I always end up going back to the quiche! The menu has a lot of options for everyone, and the desserts and empanadas look great!
