The boyfriend was craving dumplings so we stopped by Hmart after visiting my new baby nephew. Caobao is a part of Hmart's food court. There seems to be only one employee working so it takes awhile to get your food. We ordered the Hong Kong cha siu (bbq pork buns) and 2 combos - the Texas trio which comes with brisket, pork, and chicken teriyaki baos and the Guabao (opted for the soft shell crab & pork belly guabaos with fries). I was a little disappointed with the fries - they looked promising but it tasted like frozen fries. The biggest problem I had with the food was that when we received our tray of food, the food already wasn't hot. I was expecting them to be piping hot when you bit into them. It sort of felt like things were pre made and reheated. The buns had decent flavor to them but they just didn't taste like they were freshly made. My least favorite bun was the pork belly - I didn't feel like there was enough hoisin sauce on it and it was really dry. I had to get a cup of water to wash down each bite. I was pretty let down by this place and for the price we paid, we should have left feeling more satisfied and full.

I had no idea h-mart has a food court which is where this establishment is located. Decent amount of seating with picnic tables and high top seating. Service was very friendly at Caobao. Stopped in based on reviews and I really wanted to like these. The bulgogi has good flavor but the beef was rather stringy/tough. I do wish there was more protein in the guabao. As for the Texas trio - not sure if the bbq flavors just don't mesh with Asian cusi but I couldn't even finish those bao. Firstly there's no indication of which is which so I had no idea what I was biting and it turned into a game trying to figure out the flavor profiles.

    Juicy pork bao

They were out at the Asian night market. We stuck with the basic pork bao - well actually they call it a "juicy" pork bao. They put some sauce all over the bao that I thought kinda ruined the bao. Maybe that's why it's juicy. But I wish they put that on the side instead. Taste was basic. And at $5 a bao I'm not sure I'd get another one.

This is the definition of a hidden gem. If you don't go inside H Mart you would never know it was there. Located in a true food court. We got so much food for a very fair price! We tried 8 different buns. They were all sooooo yummy. Food came out very fast.

I ordered the two bao with fries combo. You are able to choose two baos from the basic list. The spicy brisket bao was really flavorful and the pork one was good but nothing fancy. I would order the spicy brisket one again for sure. Only downside was the amount of fries was really small and could be a little bigger (it was like kid sized).

6.5.22 Tried the hot steam buns today. These are our favorite here. The boas are made when you order them. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I love this place for their milk cow soft serve. It is some of the best ice cream I have ever had--super milky and delicious--huge portions. And I'm not even an ice cream fan. The baos are honestly not good at all though and are overpriced and rather dry. Just get the ice cream!!

The fluffiest and most delicious buns around. So good, they would make Sir-Mix-Alot himself, smile. Caobao, is a bao lovers dream, and some of the best baos I've had in the city. I think they are far beyond any competition. These fluffy buns are the best, and look like they came straight out of a Pixar movie. This family business, is located inside of the H-Mart of Katy, in a food hall named, "Market Eatery". There are various options of little restaurants inside this grocery store, but Caobao has a place in my heart, and it keeps me coming back for more. The staff working the shop is always nice, and there are options on the menu of baozis, guabaos, and other snacks. The baozis baos are the steamy bun goodness that always call my name. I've tried many of them, and they are all fantastic. Spicy Brisket, Chicken Teriyaki, BBQ Chicken, and Peperoni Pizza are all delicious. My favorites are the Spicy Brisket and the Chicken Teriyaki. They have a sauce on top and are filled with a good amount of meat. The Peperoni Pizza bao is done a little more crispy than the Spicy Brisket, which is a bit more fluffy. Regardless, they are all delicious, well priced, and just fluffy goodness. There is plenty of seating in this 'Market Eatery'. Many times I'll just wait a few minutes for the baos to be prepared and i'll eat them there. You can also take them to go. Its always a 'Baotastic time' and you'll definitely want to know all a'bao' it.

We had ordered from another food court counter and I added the spicy brisket bao just to try it. It was pretty good and different, but more than I'd like to pay when I'm used to the price of tasty baos in Houston's Chinatown.

Caobao is all go-to all time favorite bao place. Each order is steamed/cooked to perfection. The staff is also very helpful with recommendations and quick with orders. I highly recommend the chicken teriyaki bao and the brisket bao! Caobao is located inside of Hmart in their food court. It's a very casual dine-in if you are wanting to go with a group of friends or grab a quick little meal on your lunch break. 10/10!

Tried their food stand during lunar new year at The Post. Super fluffy buns and really tasty. Can't wait to check out the actual restaurant to try the rest of their buns!

I haven't been to this spot in years. I forgot how good this place was!…read more Music is always popping here. I came in on a Friday night, and they had a live DJ playing. The music is a mix of EDM, Hip-hop, Rap, and R&B. They have tables and bar top seating. If you have a bigger group, I'm sure you can find a table depending on the time you arrive. There is a lot of seating. To start off, I ordered the Matcha Martini. It was STRONG omg, definitely a sipper, but it was so good. It was creamy and had a good matcha flavor. I love how they added matcha powder on top. For drinks, I also tried their espresso martini and Bubbly Pineapple. The espressos here are good, no complaints. The Bubbly Pineapple is so cute; it comes out with a bubble of smoke you can pop. The drink is very refreshing; it really tastes like pineapple. FYI, the drink has little black seeds, so if you don't like textures in your drink, maybe this one isn't for you. Also the drink came with a little frozen pineapple you can add to your drink once you pop the bubble As an appetizer, I got a dozen raw oysters and decided to add the $5 tobiko (fish eggs). Let me say, they were not stingy with the Tobiko, there was so much on my Oysters, I mean a lot! The oysters were good, and so was the tobiko, but I feel that with so much tobiko, it kind of took away from the oysters. Still good though, especially for $21 for the dozen with the tobiko! It was very filling I'm not gonna lie, I got pretty full with the oysters, but I still had to eat my entree As an entree, I ordered the Short Ribs, which came with rice and a side salad. I didn't think I was going to eat much of my entree since the oysters had filled me up, but I ate the short ribs down to the bone! Every single one of those ribs I devoured, no meat was left on my plate. I didn't have space to eat, but my stomach made space for this. 10/10 would recommend the short ribs, especially with the delicious sauce it came with. I think it's like a fish sauce 10/10 for food and drinks. Bonus: the staff here is really friendly. I really enjoyed my time here. I need to come more often for sure, this is definitely a Katy gem

We came for lunch around 12 noon on a Saturday, I was expecting a packed house but it was dead. I started off with a Thai green tea. The drink had good tea flavor & it was refreshing with the right amount of sweetness. Then came the appetizers which I order their egg rolls and flight skewers. The egg rolls came out piping hot but very uninspiring. They didn't provide really any veggies for the egg rolls and the sauce was beyond simple. I'll say that it was my least favorite dish. Then I got to try their Skewers which was quite delicious. The chicken was seasoned nicely, I just wanted more char on it. The shrimp was a little overcooked and was the least flavored. The pork was packed with flavor and very lemongrass forward. My favorite was their beef, such high quality meat that is tendered and melt in your mouth. Felt like I was eating a filet mignon on a stick. For our mains I got the banh canh cua & my friend got their pho. The broth was delicious and had a strong crab flavor. They were also not stingy on the meats either. The noodles could've been more firm. My friend pho was fine, the broth needed more oomph. But the brisket and filet mignon was beyond tender. I'm grateful that they use high quality meat to make up for that broth. I mean it wasn't terrible just not that good. Overall, I'll definitely come back again. This is a good spot to dine for lunch or dinner.
