This place was great when they had a few quirky items and vintage toys and did bike repairs on the side, but after a few bad experiences I will never go into this store again. This owner must be independently wealthy because he wouldn't sell me a new bike, even when I was standing there with cash ready to buy. The store is often closed during business hours with no explanation. When I told Alex Capitol Deals was my favorite local bike shop and I'd like to put one of their stickers on my car, he wouldn't give me one because, "I don't support driving cars." Whatever, buddy! I do not like to post a bad review about a locally owned business; just not my style... in fact I love to support locally owned businesses. They support our neighborhoods and put jobs into our community. So it pains me to write what I'm going to write. In fact, I thought I was doing a good thing by going here and donating a very nice bike to them that I could have sold for at least what this store was going to ask for it. (and probably got for the bike I gave them.) We donated my son's higher end Schwinn here and it was still an excellent condition. We then inquired about two used bikes. They were having a "sale" so we were really excited to find 2 used bikes....only to discover that the prices were extremely overpriced! I'm also very disappointed in how we were treated. There was one gentleman that was really great with us and spent time talking with us, but the owner and another person that worked there we're just uncaring and seemed a little callous/pompous/bike snobs when they spoke to us. One of the bikes was not labeled with a price so I asked them how much it was we waited for more than 20 minutes but no one was able to give us a price so we came back the next day and we were quoted $375. I Googled each bike and did some research to find that their price of the used bike,that had quite a few cosmetic flaws and actually needed a repair to the front brakes, was higher than the brand new bike online with shipping! It was as if this person just threw out a price and didn't care at all if it was accurate or not he just looked up and said a random price. He was just plain annoyed with us bothering him (same annoyed person from day before). So we left! I seriously cant believe it! I should have taken our bike back. Instead I took my business elsewhere. read more

He ran through some options and while I ended up buying what I came in to ask about, I felt much better about the purchase because of his time and attention. He also helped with assembly, and when I left my drivers license in the shop he went back after hours to get it for me. Capital Deals is a very well organized and maintained place. They'll search the entire store to help you find exactly what would suit you. Just was back last fall on a thing I didn't want to buy at CD but did -- not sure it was the right one. Kept my receipt (Carefully!). Had to bring it back and got the Third Degree again! Even With receipt. This guy, for a small businessman, just doesn't do much to win over people. Sells used kids bikes with tears in the seats (to me an automatic large mark-down) and still wants $45-50. And these are *not* Treks, or even dept. store Schwinns. Another good place to support (besides Bicycle Bills on Robert St.) -- Cycles for Change on University Ave. near Dale. Crazy cheap prices for used parts. Not so cheap for used bikes - but it's for a cause. Sunrise Cyclery in MPLS on Lake is also good for parts. Very Expensive for used bikes, though. read more

Great place to get a used bike. The prices are lower than other shops. It is nice to limit an bike investment for a child, which will out grow the frame in a year. We went back after our daughter out grew her bike (purchase from the shop). They even took her old bike as a trade in. They had a huge selection. read more

Worst customer service I think I'v ever experienced. Shady way of doing business. I called this place from my house and asked them if I could try out a bike rack on my car. It was overpriced used at 225 dollars with no key so they probably take stolen merchandise. Anyways was still cheaper than new at 315 and I was interested. Told them I lived an hour away and asked when they closed.. I had 2 hours before close so I asked to make sure that I could come down and try it out with my bike on it. "No problem" I was told. I took the wheels off my bike and squeezed it in the back of my car and headed down there. When I got there the guy I think I spoke with on the phone started getting it out of the shelf for me when what appeared to be his boss of some sort says he will handle this. Told me that it wont work for my car which is the most commonly shaped sedan available. I did the research myself and it is infact compatible with my extremly common car. Anyways he said he will sell it to me as is but will not let me try to put it on my car to see how it fits. I am still amazed while writing this at how shady this owner or whatever is. 225 dollar used bike rack and he wont let me try putting it on my car in front of his store and leave me id to see how it fits? I think there is something wrong with it. No one in their right mind would buy that without making sure its not broken in any way. He wouldnt even let me mess with it. Just got rude and said "I can sell it as is if you want it" I says "and you wont let me see if its gonna work?" "nope you can buy it as is if you want it. its not recomended for your vehicle so I cant let you try it. what do you want to do?" He didnt have the manual. Probably because its stolen. Thule bike racks come with a patented quick fit mechanism and book to look up your car to set the dial that has been tuned perfectly for your specific car. The sizing guide webpage on thule's website for this particular item is down. I did research on my own since I didnt believe my super common and extremely commonly shaped sedan would not be compatible. Bottom line. My car is compatible. Owner is shady and probably buys stolen goods and sells them as is without letting you see if its working or broken. My advice would be to go to one of the many other bike shops in the area that are more concerned with customer satisifaction than profit. Their website says they are in the process or switching over from a pawn shop to a bike shop. They obviously still have the pawn shop mentality and dont mind ripping anyone off like a lot of pawn shops. Go to a bike shop thats always been a bike shop and not a pawn shop if you wish not to get ripped off. I usually only write a review if Im super happy with a place, service or food to try to share with other people. This is my first 1 star review. Horrible customer service..... Got yelled at for testing out older bikes. He claimed I was fooling around for testing multiple bikes. However, I lead a small little biking club, and I was testing out the bikes for individuals in my group. On top of that, they were never at present while I was in the shop. This is my first ever review so bare with me as I don't really know where to being. Also it has taken a number of days and much thought to write this review. That being said I feel compelled to share my experiences. I have been around and riding bikes my whole life that being said though i am nowhere near an expert. My first experience at Capital Deals was very positive, fun, exciting, entertaining to say the least. Alex the owner was very upbeat, friendly, down to earth, and very helpful in helping me find what i thought i was looking for. The conversation quickly changed from bikes to my career as a directional driller since i had come straight from work and still in my work boots, high vis shirt and muddy jeans. Alex then shared a project he wanted done at his home near by. So we then put the bike buying on hold hopped into his school bus and took a look at the project he wanted me to complete at his home. Alex offered to give me the bike free of charge in exchange i do the project at his home. I shared with him that it was something he could easily do on his own, and advised him to save his money and do it himself. It would have been completely against my morals and ethics to do the job in exchange for the bike which i purchased at full price for 430 dollars. The job would have taken me at hour and a half at most and I new that wouldn't be right of me. But i told Alex i would provided the materials to him necessary to complete the job which i did free of cost. NOW the other half of the experience. I recently have been experience finincial difficulties that obvoiusly provide great stress as i am in between a career change. I contacted Alex and shared this with him in hopes he would buy the bike back from me that I purchased in Late June of 2019 so just barely over 3 months ago. I also shared that I had only road the bike 4 times total and it just wasn't what i thought it would be. He then put me on hold twice and showed no interest in making a deal or helping me out. I guess that business how silly of me and embarrassed I know am for thinking that there would be a better outcome. One filled with understanding and willing to help. Silly me I know no. I then decided to take it to another local bike show one of which i have done lots of business a,t since being a youngster whether many purchases or a trade. The gentleman basically told me that i bought junk and paid 200 more then I should have. He was very relutant to share these deals with me because i could obviously see in his face that he was embarrassed for me and felt bad for me for being so dumb. My GF was recently looking to purchase a bike and the original plan was to go to Capital Deals I'm happy that didn't happen now. read more

excellent service. got a deal on a tandem trail-a-bike. 300 used for a 500 new product. not cheap but when there are no other options (searched craigs list and elsewhere and no similar finds). Definitely saved some money on getting used. Also good selection of used kids and adult bikes and they have a bunch of new ones that are marked down to a reasonable price. To address Tom M's comment there are used bikes here that are not in the best of shape but you need to look over what you are going to buy. make sure the wheel is trued (mine wasn't but they did it in 5 minutes) and if the wear on a tire is medium i suspect that you are not going to get a new tire or a mark down on the product. they are only surviving on margins of moving used products as i bet they are not making that much on new bikes. thus they may not be the cheapest but still you will find things here that you may not see elsewhere. they are a small business and worth supporting but with some common sense and open eyes. read more

Great Service, Value, Equipment. A neighborhood shop that works with you. My wife and I were in St Paul to do the triathlon at the National Senior Olympics and we didn't want to ship our own bikes feeling that renting a bike in the Minneapolis area, the bike capital of the nation, would be much easier and reasonable than shipping our bikes from Arizona. We also wanted to use the bikes for the week we were there to explore the amazing bikes paths of the area and to avoid renting a car. I searched and searched and all were either so expensive for a good road bike or so far from the public transportation that we would need to rent a car just to pick up and return! Keiko (Owner with her husband) really went out of her way to work with us renting to us at a great price on 2 good new fiber bikes for the week. Rental is not their normal focus but, as mentioned, they go out of their way to work with the customer. She even contacted us during the week to make sure all o.k. We even introduced a local avid rider to the shop who was aware of the store but had never stopped in. He was very impressed with the amazing diversity of bikes and accessories. From comfort, casual bikes to folding "Bike Fridays" to pedal assist motors and higher end they pack a lot into their smallish location. And the mechanics are great...and they have the knowledge and passion. Thank you Capital Deals for making our Minnesota stay so terrific...and yes, they did work great for our triathlon! read more

This is a shop that would exemplify mayhem. It's nuts mixed with bolts, used junk mixed with bikes and accessories. We went in for a bike rack, to which they could not find the keys for. For just under $200, a buyer would think that not only would the keys come with the used locking bike rack, but there were would not be other missing parts as well. We asked for a discount, to which the man said, "How about $10?" That might cover the cost of ordering the keys. This place was a crap-filled zoo. There are plenty of bike co-ops. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more
