    Our 9 seat Cessna.

This is the second time I've flown Cape Air to Vieques from the San Juan International Airport (SJU). The first was in 2005 - yes, that's 10 years ago! The advantage to using Cape Air, as opposed to Vieques Air Link (VAL), who have been servicing Vieques forever, is that you fly in and out of the International Airport, and thus, don't have to get from SJU to Isla Grande, which VAL uses. It's not that far between Isla Grande and SJU, but it is a schlep with luggage and takes time and a cab ride to Isla Grande, and there can be a bit of traffic depending on day of the week and time of day. So, if you aren't into schlepping between airports, book Cape Air. It will cost more, but hey, it's not that much more and if you can't afford it, why are you flying to Vieques to begin with? Take the ferry for $2 and get a dose of culture immersion real fast. Cape Air flys Cessna planes, I think they seat 8 or 9. It's tight in there and sort of warm and stuffy even with the AC blowing right in your face. They tell you where to sit based on weight distribution - your weight relative to everyone else's. They check your luggage and they check your carry on stuff too, once you bring carry-on to the airplane. They will shove it in the wings. Watch them do it. It's funny. Don't bring fancy luggage. Don't bring fancy anything. You're going to a laid back island. Oh, if you are afraid of planes that shake in the air and react to wind currents and look like they are going to crash as they are approaching the runway, stay off these flights. I've never heard of any crashes. One recommendation: if you are flying into SJU, give yourself enough time between planned arrival of your inbound flight and the departing flight from SJU on Cape Air. Don't cut it close! First, you need to get from one terminal to where Cape Air is located, after getting luggage. And if your inbound is late, as mine was 3.5 hours late, you could miss your flight into Vieques and another will not have seats.

I have flown 20+ airlines ranging from international carriers to small local regional puddle…read morejumpers. Seaborne is hands down the worst airline I have ever flown. I was supposed to fly Dominica to San Juan. Flight was delayed delayed delayed. Power down. Angry representative demanded our passports and started loading our luggage when suddenly the flight was cancelled due to 'weather'. As someone who flies regularly I saw flights were actively arriving and departing in both Dominica and San Juan and surrounding islands. No idea why seaborne cancelled. Secondly the agent started yelling OVER the announcement (???) that seaborne will not be providing any taxi, accommodation etc and then ripped tiny pieces of paper with seabornes corporate number, grabbed her purse and ran out the airport never to be seen again. Well calling Seaborne was another disaster. I guess they use headsets since they seem to be scratching their ass and head the same time. Eventually after explaining over and over what happened they told me they could get me a flight in three days and no help with a place or anywhere to stay. No thanks. I got a flight out of Dominica that same day and was home in the US the day after (a day and half before seaborne wanted to get me home). Save your sanity - fly a major carrier with more flights or LIAT even. If you must fly them allocate an extra day or two for potential error. Lesson learned.

Note: this is the same review I wrote for Seaborne on their Yelp page for St. Croix, which at time…read moreof writing had about 20 reviews (http://www.yelp.com/biz/seaborne-airlines-christiansted?hrid=KYmQDfGEr7zMeSbdDVslJw) If you're ever thought of flying on Seaborne Airlines (a regional airline in the Caribbean), consider the following, which was the case for me on January 2016 when I had a connecting from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to San Juan, Puerto Rico: 1) They cancelled my flight, leaving my stranded in Santo Domingo for 24 hours, and that providing accommodations took 3 hours 2) They put me up in a hotel that had a live cockroach in the bathroom (the Be Live Hamaca Resort in Boca Chica, in case you're wondering) 3) The next day, I was mysteriously absent from their reservation system, even though agents had verbally confirmed I'd be on the next flight (the same happened to nine other passengers on the flight). After much maneuvering, they finally were able to add me to the flight 4) Due to weight constraints, none of our bags were onboard, meaning I arrived in San Juan without my checked baggage (note: when flying, ALWAYS make sure you keep your most important valuables including medications with you or in your carry on, NOT in your checked baggage!) 5) It took them 4 days to delivery my bag. Customer service has been unresponsive, to say the least (there have been times where I call their lost baggage hotline, only to hear a busy dial tone) 6) An airline agent promised me he'd send a written confirmation detailing the nature of my bag delay so I'd have a record, but failed to abide to his promise I guess it's time to file a formal complaint.

It felt very disorganized, & the lines were extremely long which made everything feel slow & a bit stressful. I also needed an accommodation & ended up waiting quite a while b4 getting assistance. Part of the delay came from not being told at the check-in counter that I needed to show my boarding pass @ the accommodation station. I was told someone would be w/ me shortly & to sit by the accommodation area, so I waited (but it ended up taking longer than expected). Eventually, I realized what was going on & went up to the accommodation station myself. When I got there, the employee acted as if I was supposed to already know I needed to present my boarding pass, which added to the frustration in the moment. The long waits & lack of clear instructions made things more difficult than it needed to be. However, when I got to the JetBlue gate the employees there were way nicer & helpful. They seemed to have it together. So it's a mixed experience.

I didn't notice any staff members in the area, but once we found the correct baggage carousel, our luggage started arriving fairly quickly and we were able to collect our suitcases without much delay. After exiting the terminal, we requested an Uber, and our driver arrived within just a few minutes. We were picked up right outside the terminal and didn't need to walk to specific ride-share areas.
