I purchased a deadbolt lock to match existing hardware in my home. Cape Cod's price was one of the best. But, I had to return the item because it did not match in size or color. This is a big drawback in doing business with them...the colors are represented by "cartoon" color splashes, and are not accurate. I returned the item at my expense - both ways, and it's $12.50 each way, and they charged me a 25% re-stocking fee, pretty high considering what that really means. I then talked to the salesman, who seemd a little put out and rushed, and ordered the right size and color. He sent the exact same size lock as the one I returned, guess I was right in assuming he was not really paying attention to me. So, on the phone again, and while they waived the restocking fee, I was charged freight. They just make it too difficult and expensive to do bueiness with them. If you absolutely know exactly what you need and are confident you will not need to return then item, they are probably alright to order from, but I would steer more toward consumer friendly businesses. read more

I placed an online order with Cape Cod Brass back on June 20th for a Newport Brass kitchen faucet (aged brass finish). On 8/4 I phoned to check on the status of my order and no one returned my call. I phoned the following day and the salesman told me he would check on it and get back to me. I was informed that my order was lost, therefore after waiting 7 weeks, I still hadn't even begun the order process. After emailing and canceling the order, they told me that it wasn't lost and that it was a delay because Brasstech was having a quality control problem with the finish. This could be a cover up for losing their order. I am guessing that they never processed the order. Very frustrating so I will order my hardware elsewhere. read more

very terrible service, failed to keep us apprised of the defective part replacement shipment date after making commitments that were never met. my contractor and i were promised a ship date for a defective part, we relied on that date (and is the only item standing between a finished job, our contractor getting paid, and us putting the house on the market). when the package didn't come, i had to call again (because they will never return a call), and was suddenly informed that nothing would happen until next week. i should have ordered from someone else, who keeps me informed and updated. there was never an apology, despite me explaining the issue about the critical nature of this part for completing the job, and there was never an apology for the defective part nor an apology for failing to communicate about delayed shipment dates and failed commitments. read more

This small business sold me a defective product (a lighted doorbell). When I phoned and asked for a refund and a mailing label, I was told to hold; and after a whispered back and forth conversation, I was informed I had to pay to return the product, despite it not working. However, they stated, they would exchange it for an identical bell. The product was so cheaply made that I said no to their offer. They also refused to grant me credit towards a more expensive product. So I mailed the $25.60 bell back at a cost of $5.50; and when the credit was submitted to AX, Cape Cod Brass deducted a $6.40 "restocking fee". For--allow me to repeat--a defective item. (Could or would one restock a defective item?) Thankfully, AX granted me a credit for the fee, which by the way (at least in my State), since not stated at point of sale, was illegal to charge. And to confirm other's statements, it took at least 10 days to receive my order. read more

I am so happy I found Cape Cod Brass on the internet when i searched for New Port Brass faucets and Blanco sinks for our remodeling projects. Our local plumbing supplier, Crawford plumbing was not only almost double the price, their sales staff made numerous errors by ordering wrong faucet sizes, wrong sink finishes, wrong sink accessories. I was so frustrated I cancelled my order and went on-line. Thankfully I found Cape Cod Brass. Robert was knowledgeable and helpful in placing my order. Poor customer service. Returned an item and it took weeks to be credited to my account. Then they took a 25% restocking fee - on a $330 item that comes to $82.50. Where are they restocking it?!! Very poor customer service. read more

I bought a Baldwin lock from this company online because the price was very competitive. It took forever to come. When it arrived, the mortise lock was broken. The company shipped me a new one before I returned the defective one -- I was initially pleased, but surprised to learn the company still had my credit card on file. Also surprised that no invoice was emailed or mailed to me. Then it turned out I had actually ordered an incorrect part and needed to make an additional return. Again, the company charged me; again, no emailed or mailed invoice. Finally, I had all the correct parts and a working lock. I shipped back what I had that was broken or misordered. Then, over several weeks, I had to call and email repeatedly to get the company to process the return. Once the return was finally processed, I still had no invoice or receipt. Finally (after yet another email exchange), I received a return form that showed a $57 restocking fee -- which had not been mentioned at any point and still did not account for the discrepancy between my credit and what I had spent. Plus, half the time I try to email these folks, the emails bounce back because their system is down. Lesson learned: for a bit more money, order your hardware from a better outfit. read more

Purchased an item on the 27th of June. Item took two weeks to the day to arrive with their "flat rate shipping charge of $12.95". Did not receive a follow up email with tracking information. I had to call three separate times to ask the status of shipping, only to be placed on hold while they called the manufacturer of the item to ask when it will ship out. Maybe this "middle man" style of retailer works for some, but honestly, if they don't have the inventory themselves and need to have items sent from the factory.. they're just a wasted step in the process for a shopper like myself... When the item arrived I quickly realized I must have selected the wrong part number as it was 3/8" too small for my door. Call to return it, no huge hassle, but there begins another problem for me... The $12.95 shipping charge is non refundable, they do not provide a shipping label for returns and there is a 25% restocking fee on the item. So a $31.11 item (with shipping) less the $12.95 shipping, less the 25% ($13.77), less USPS shipping estimate of $5-$8... would yield me a return to pocket of $5.77-$8.77.... Not worth that headache in my opinion, I'll just end up saving it for maybe another project or donating it to a locksmith... No where on their page did I see it mentioned they are the "middle man" and have no actual inventory... or maybe this was a special order item and I missed that part... but their lack of communication and terrible shipping speed means I will not be conducting business with them in the future. I do not recommend purchasing from them due to the issues above.. there are so many more retailers online that ship faster, have better customer service and overall better policies. Do yourself a favor and shop around. read more
