The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The ambience is fair for example, the carpett is probably 20 years old. Midway through my mail a fly crawled out of my spinach. I alerted the bus boy who handled it professionally. The waitress came over and apologized. She spoke with the manager and got the meal comped. However, the manager; she never came over to speak with us, even though she had been speaking with the table next to us 10 minutes earlier. As we left, I noticed all the windows were open in the area of the kitchen. That's where the flies came from. I wonder how many flies landed on other people's meals?. Would I go back there? My family has made the Cape Sea Grille our go-to for a special dinner for years. The ambiance is perfect--elegant, relaxing and beautiful. The service is always great--servers are helpful and attentive, but never intrusive. The food is always delicious. We've tried the specials, and found them creative and delicious, always perfectly prepared but have a hard time passing up on some of the regular offerings, specifically the orange and soy roasted chicken and seafood pasta. When we arrived, I politely told the hostess it was my mother's birthday and asked her to inform our server. Her response was unnecessarily rude--telling me it was "already in the reservation." I didn't make the reservation, so how was I supposed to know it had been noted? Regardless, I was trying to make sure a basic birthday acknowledgment didn't get missed. And yet, it still did. We ordered three desserts, and not one came with a candle, a greeting, or even a word of recognition. I followed up with the hostess again and told her that nothing had been done. She said she'd let the manager know. I walked back to my table--and that was the end of it. No one came over. No apology. Nothing. I wasn't asking for anything free. But a birthday candle? We had a solid meal at the Cape Sea Grille last night. Lots of super fresh veggies, delicious cocktails and decadent desserts. The service was warm, welcoming and efficient. The dining area is also warm, welcoming and cozy. Set in an older home this restaurant is a pleasant place to dine set off Main Street on a side street a short walk away to ocean views. We started with a cocktail. The French smelled as good as it tasted. We followed our cocktail with the warm roasted vegetable salad followed by the Short Rib special. My only criticism of the short rib dish was the addition of the chimichurri sauce on top. It added nothing to the dish and in my opinion was not necessary. Dessert was the pecan tart with ice cream! Perfect shortbread crust and crunchy, gooey pecan filling. A really solid meal in a beautiful, quaint setting. Next trip to Harwich make a reservation and see for yourself. read more

I wanted to love Cape Sea!! I appreciated the ambiance and our service was great! The host was wonderful and the restaurant was clean and had a nice energy. We sat outside in the tent which was okay at best. They could do more to make this feel less like a parking lot tent. We started with drinks and ordered the homemade Country Pork Pate. It was fine but not great. Next we had Caesar Salad with anchovies and a lobster bisque. Salad was nice and I liked the crispy polenta crouton and bisque was not good. Entrees we had the Cod with beurre blanc, orange and soy chicken and one of the specials. Even a week later...still disappointed that this wasn't what I hoped it would be. I see it on all of the top restaurant lists. I may try again but there are so many great restaurants so we will see. read more

Three of us went for dinner after a nice night at the Christmas stroll.The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food is outstanding. Unfortunately we were seated near a loud obnoxious group and it was difficult to hear one another.We asked the waitress if she could request that they turn the volume down but the large party refused. Alternative seating was offered as we were paying our bill (?) One of the men from the other party stood and became insulting and confrontational as we left. We had a lovely family dinner thanks to Cape Sea Grille and their staff. Initially they couldn't accommodate our party of eight, but they kept our contact information in case of a cancellation. Sure enough they called back us letting us know they had a cancellation and could fit us in. We are inside which was comfortable and tables were well spaced. We were seated near a charming fireplace with candles and yhe artwork and photographs were fabulous (and for sale). The food was delicious! The bread was fresh and rustic without being too crusty/hard. If you get the Caesar salad, ask for extra croutons. These are not the hard, dry bread kind. I don't know what they're made of but they were incredible. Our table ordered a variety of entrees: fish tacos, surf and turf, lamb special, duck, seared scallops and striped bass special. Everything was fresh and interesting. The staff was very attentive. Our waiter was very insightful when ordering and understanding with any special requests. Other staff was at the ready to deliver plates, clear plates, replace bread basket, etc. It was really a team effort. My one negative comment - there's no kid's menu. They have a mac and cheese side that was delicious, but it was too fancy (read:different) for our four year old. Thankfully our tween likes fish tacos (on starter menu, can be made as an entree). We were very, very impressed with this restaurant, recommended to us by a local. In Harwichport, it's very difficult to find fine dining ... it's even harder to find a spot (even in season) which stays open past 8 p.m. We were in need of a new spot after eating three nights at Brax Landing and wow ... the Sea Grille didn't disappoint! First off, yes ... the pandemic threw quite a curveball at restaurants. We came twice in a week here and both times were seated 20-30 minutes after our reservation time but we watched the servers clean each table and chairs with spray bottles and we asked to sit outdoors. We were very confident that this place was taking covid seriously. So while dinner each night took around 2.5 hours+ due to lag times between service, we understood and the tradeoff of safety was worth it to us. The first night was a disaster menu-wise. Our reservation was at 8:30 p.m. on a weeknight and they were out of the special salad, dessert, an entree and had to substitute the preparation sauce on another. I had the lobster, which was done very well. Poached, flambed in cognac, removed from the shell and served lazy style in the shell along with potatoes, asparagus and small pieces of linguista. Not the most filling dish ... could have used a side but every bit as good as my favorite version at The Lobster Pot. My date raved about her cod loin in a curry broth. She got it again the second night too it was so good. Another in our party ordered the grilled romaine salad with added shrimp and to say it was amazing was an understatement. Dinner had taken so long to serve they asked us it we would mind not ordering dessert which was a bummer. The second night, our reservation was at 8 p.m. on a weekend and again, we were seated 30-35 minutes past our reservation time. They were not out of anything on the menu this time. Our waitress seemed to be having a bad day and was a bit grouchy compared to our first waitress (German or Russian lady) who was great. We ordered the potato cake as an appetizer, which was basically mashed potatoes fried crisp on one side. It was small and though it tasted good, for the $9 price, we expected a sharable side. I had the black bass special, which was really amazing ... served with a sweet thai risotto with what tasted like coconut milk. The fish was cooked perfect ... normally I don't eat the skin but this was cooked so well, I did. The skirt steak came with lots of unique sides and was raved about. I will say that the dishes here are very creative and incorporate lots of different tastes and techniques and flavors. If you aren't an adventurous eater, you might be in trouble, like the "Karen" who recently reviewed and complained they didn't have a kids menu, or patience for her self-admitted badly behaved kids. Nuff said. We were able to get dessert this time. The blueberry cobbler was amazing. Everyone thought so. The cookies and whipped cream was meh ... we wouldn't order it again. Wine list was quite a high mark up but well selected. (We bought a bottle at Luke's for less than the price of one glass at the restaurant.) The beer list was respectable. Overall, the prices were a bit shocking. I will agree with the other reviewer who stated that the prices were on par with Manhattan. However, you get a lot of bang for your buck from a portion, quality and taste standpoint. While there were some timing hiccups, we would consider this one of the best restaurants on Cape Cod hands down. Pro tip ... ask for a lawn table outside. The other section under the tent is less romantic/intimate though also outdoors. read more

The ambiance is top notch. There's something nostalgic about it. It is elegance without pretension. The service excellent. Many servers milling about to be sure everything is satisfactory. The food, from my perspective, was not as great as I'd hoped. I mean, the poached eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon and spinach on top of brioche was delicious, but the potato pancakes were less than ideal. All of the ones at my table and at other tables were burnt looking --not at all appealing -- and the grated potatoes just fell apart. They needed to be golden and held together. Alas, that was not the case. The fruit was very good, though. We declined dessert. I definitely want to return for dinner because the entree choices looked wonderful. We visited this restaurant last summer for a nice dinner. We enjoyed cape sea grille and we are so exited to come back! My daughter has an allergy and they were very accommodating. Our server brought her some gluten free breadsticks to enjoy instead of the bread and she even recommended some allergy friendly restaurants nearby that we could try. The views from the windows were beautiful, and the indoor area was very comfortable. Overall Cape Sea Grille turned out to be one of my family favorite restaurants! Hostess greeted us with a very stern "you're early, we will have to seat you closer to your reservation time" (MANY empty tables, including the one we sat at -- we arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation). The staff seemed overwhelmed, even when we arrived but we let it go. We sat down and our drink order was pretty quick. Waitress took our appetizer and meal orders and then we waited... and waited... and waited... our appetizers came to the table - about 40 minutes after we ordered. Then we waited for dinner, that never came. 1 hour and 40 minutes after we sat down and we still didn't see our dinner. We finally got up from our table and asked where dinner was. This appeared to annoy our server, as she quickly came to the table to ask us if we were displeased that our dinner was late. We definitely told her we were displeased. We were then told that our dinner order wasn't timed properly. HUH?!? Then, even when our meal still wasn't on the table, we were offered a third round of free drinks. Seriously, make us drunk cause we are not happy. What a terrible approach. Our meal never came to the table and we ended up just asking for the check and leaving the restaurant. I think it was the owner, finally came out to see what was wrong and started to profusely apologize. I was thoroughly embarrassed and just wanted to leave the restaurant. She sent my husband home with part of our meal. I won't be eating it. What a terrible experience. I sit home, hungry... truly surprised that this establishment is loved by so many. What a special meal for a special occasion! My brothers and I brought our Mom here to celebrate her 85th birthday, and we are so glad we did. Food and service were impeccable. Our waiter, Juan, was outstanding and incredibly patient with our many questions about the menu. Drinks and apps were prompt, with time to peruse the extensive menu. So much to choose from on the menu and great specials! Mom had the lobster and loved it (as did one of my brothers) two of us enjoyed an amazing Striped Bass special and my wife loved the Soy Honey glazed roasted half chicken. I am writing this review to try to help the owners regain the energy that made this a top 5 restaurant on the Cape. I have owned property on the Cape for almost 25 years and the Sea Grille was always a benchmark for restaurants on the Cape. I recently visited the Sea Grille on a Friday night at 7:30 on a beautiful mild night in what is considered the off season. I was sat right on time which was not difficult to achieve as the restaurant was 50% empty. As usual the restaurant was spotless, well decked out and very clean. The staff was excellent, prompt, courteous and very friendly. My issue is the over complicated menu not with respect to too much variety more so trying to do way too much with every entree. It is difficult to even understand what the chef is trying to accomplish with the medley of ingredients designed to accent the main course. Examples would be purées, roasted vegetables, fennel, caramelized everything I could go on. The benchmark on the Cape and a direct competitor to Sea Grille is the Ocean House, a restaurant that knows who it is and has never lost its recipe. The Ocean House is packed every night it and for good reason. They understand their patrons and they know who they are also. I may be wrong but I cannot imagine that Sea Grille business is on an upward trend but if last night was an example it was empty by 8:30. In closing, the Sea Grille is real close to being great but the food accents should not overshadow the main course and they certainly do. You have all the pieces, great environment, great service, nice location and the talent to be great again. I hope you read this and take note. read more

The venue was charming, in an old Cape Cod house, they were clever in how they organized the table seating so you aren't on top of each other. We weren't sure about our wine choice and the waitress checked with her manager to confirm her understanding, it was a great Napa Valley Cab Franc. We shared a very ample sized Caesar salad with polenta croutons that were very tasty, the salad itself was excellent. Then came the entrees which rated up there with one of our all time favorites. A lobster, shrimp, and scallop pappardelle pasta with a sauce that was not creamy more of a broth with a hint of cream and a little bit of a kick to it. We then followed up with a peach cobbler and ice cream with caramel that was a great finishing touch. We have been coming here for many years with each Cape visit.... often several times. I can honestly say I don't understand the negative reviews. In my experience Cape Sea is always consistently great and has never disappointed. I'm equally ahgast at the review posted recently by Karen M. Apparently she was miffed because the usual Pan Seared Whole Lobster dish has been modified to a 1/2 lobster with other seafood in place of the other half of the lobster for near the same price point it originally was... $49. She complains further that it would cost $69 if she ordered the original whole lobster dish. I am writing this to say that obviously this woman has no idea just how inflated food cost is now. Lobster especially is sky-high, as is almost all food cost for that matter. Gasoline is through the roof if you haven't noticed my dear...and boats that haul in fish run on gasoine (and they are nowhere near as fuel efficient as a car). So it shouldnt be hard to comprehend that of course a restaurant needs to increase prices. How can someone not get that? Frankly, it frustrates me that someone would post a negative review (that will hurt a small family owned business) over price...after a world wide pandemic?? Come on. Restaurants profit margin is very small in a good economy...now it is even harder. I wish people would consider walking in the shoes of another before being so ready to attack. Just saying. For the price and supposed upscale service it as very disappointing, especially for an anniversary celebration. I get it's high season but simply don't take more reservations than you can handle.
