Food was varied, fresh and excellent. Plenty of good options besides seafood. The main dining room felt intimate, but was a little loud for my taste. Service was very attentive and informative, and food recommendations were spot on. The special salad of spinach, goat cheese, strawberries and tomatoes was divine - one of the best starter salads ever! Bone-in pork chop with asparagus and roasted potatoes was fantastic, as was the duck w risotto. Salmon was excellent. But the culinary "coup de grâce" was the sorbet!! Truly one of the best desserts ever!! Served with fresh berries and a large cookie. Overall, a great dining experience, albeit a bit on the expensive side. I went to dinner with a group of eight people about 3 weeks ago, and truth be told, I don't quite remember the exact dish I ordered and ate, BUT I do have a photo. I also remember that, even though the waitress said it was her favorite as soon as I took a bite I could tell it was a dish I did not care for. I ate a few bites and left the rest. It was some kind of steak with a special preparation. I've looked at the restaurant menu but do not see it listed. It was a special for that evening. The restaurant had a nice Cape Cod feel to it, and it was crowded. There was a large party sitting near by and the acoustics being what they are, it was a little noisy but they left after a bit. The lighting was dim, but it was a pleasant evening and the service was great. They had a nice selection of wines. My friend had the Eggplant Vindaloo, which I had considered ordering and it was a huge serving. She took it back and ate it for several days. Another friend ordered and ate appetizers and loved the Maine Mussels Dijonnaise. I guess it was just my luck of the draw. I should have gone with my first idea and ordered the Eggplant. Also ordered mussel appetizer which was excellent ... my problem was the cod special included some sauce and a lot of Brussels sprouts. These are awful and asked the server to sub the Brussels. She replied absolutely no substitutions are allowed . Service here was pretty good and consistent throughout the visit. I ordered the duck-fat infused burger, which was massive and absolutely delicious. It came with a generous amount of fries, making it a very filling meal. The burger was rich, juicy, and memorable. Had a really nice night at Mooncussers. The vibe is very lively, partly due to the way sound resonates in an historic building (fabulous wide plank floors and low ceilings). We shared a mixed green salad which was good. She had the salmon with udon noodles and absolutely loved it. I had the butter chicken and it was good but could have used some fresh herbs or scallions. I stayed here on Labor Day weekend and had dinner here Saturday night. The dinner and dessert were delicious. The wait staff were friendly, courteous and accommodating. The couple that runs this establishment are so nice! I ordered the Steak Frites with truffle fries and it was absolutely cooked to perfection and delicious. For dessert I shared the tres leches and it was amazing. The place was fully booked and it even had a private room where they hosting a wedding party dinner. There are two bars and both sides of the entry way have an ample amount of tables to dine. Reservations are highly recommended during the summer. read more

Pretty good dinner! Mooncussers Tavern is basically a house so there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Korean Short Rib Tacos which were absolutely delicious!! I highly recommend this appetizer/getting it as a main course if you're not super hungry. My friends got the elote risotto (good but not super flavorful), truffle fries (great flavor, slightly soggy), beef carpaccio (could have been more seasoned), and two salads (both great!). Also, the burgers here look and smell amazing! The service was okay but slightly inconsistent (we didn't get a bread basket that other tables did, and a few of our glasses were dirty). Stopped in here for dinner and found the place to be charming and the wait staff friendly and attentive. Unfortunately that is where the good experience stopped. The food was awful. I had the eggplant, it wasn't seasoned at all. Not sure what the sauce was, but no flavor at all. My wife had the mussels and we shared the brussels sprouts. The mussels broth was good but the mussels were tiny. 1l3 the size you would expect. The crispy brussel sprouts were mushy. The waitress got then to take the brussel spouts of the bill. Really disappointing! Good news is we had plenty of room for ice-cream after because neither one of us enjoyed the fare. read more

We had an amazing experience at Mooncussers! We came in at 5:15 with no reservation and they squeezed us in (4 and a baby). I have an extensive list of allergies (soy, dairy, nuts, shellfish, berries) and I actually got to eat something other than a salad with no dressing! I had the steak frites and it was fantastic and tailored to fit my allergy needs. Others in our group had the duck, salmon, and tuna and they were all amazing! Server was very good but food not so much. My husband and I shared an excellent Caesar salad and then had sole meunière and steak frites. Sole tasted fishy, "pan-fried" gnocchi were not pan-fried (and didn't even taste cooked). Steak frites had cold fries and steak was only mediocre. The desserts (we were still hungry, having only picked at our entrees) were delicious - crème brûlée and challah bread pudding. All told, it was a huge disappointment from our last meal here, which was excellent. We won't be back anytime soon, if ever. read more

We dined at Mooncussers Tavern Wednesday night and had an amazing meal. We had a few tapas dishes including the tuna tartare, truffle parm fries, pocketbook lobster rolls and our favorite Gambas Al Ajillo! Everything was really good but the sauce with the Gambas Al Ajillo was just plate licking delicious! We asked for more bread so we could get every drop. The lobster rolls were warm and tender and my husband said if he had a restaurant he would serve tuna tartare just like Mooncussers! He said it was the perfect ratio of wontons to tuna. We also had the simple greens and Caesar salads, both satisfying. Service was friendly and efficient and the dining room is very comfortable and inviting. It was a bit noisy but not too bad. The only disappointment was the cocktail. We had their lemonade cocktail (I forget the exact name) which had gin, house made lemonade, mint and seltzer. I didn't taste any lemonade, mint or seltzer. It tasted like a glass of gin. Not balanced at all. I should have sent it back but we were really enjoying the food and didn't want to make a fuss. Nice find for New Year's Eve while visiting the cape. Our waitress was fantastic- attentive & personable. The owner or manager came around to ask how we were doing which was a nice touch. We started with the street tacos - they were just ok but totally understand that tacos are not the house speciality by any means. They certainly looked gorgeous though! (Picture attached) Our mains were the streak frites, walnut /cranberry salad with steak, and salmon. All delicious! Ambiance was perfection- very cozy- linens- dimly lit- candles burning on the tables. Bathroom was tiny and there was only one bathroom as you'd find in a house (as far as I'm aware) which meant there was a wait. As other reviewers mentioned there is very limited parking. After our meal we were in our truck and putting our directions into our GPS - we were in our truck for maybe 2-3 minutes when the manager came up to our truck and asked us to move. He wasn't rude but it did make for an awkward ending as we had to move out of our spot before finishing adding the address into our GPS. read more

I have a couple of tiers of restaurants that I frequent and though I put this in my second tier that is not a negative just a byproduct of the overall value proposition. Cozy interior. Mixed culinary and service experience. I had the duck breast and it was cooked perfectly, but the Rotkohl (German red cabbage) was cold. My husband had the salmon, but the salmon was a very small portion and over cooked. He asked for the fattoush on the side but it didn't arrive. Our friend's steak came with a sauce, and salad on the side. They served her salad bowl on the same plate as the steak, with the bowl placed on top of several napkins, so the napkins were soaking in the sauce (we pointed this out to the server, but he just shrugged and walked away). I was never asked if I'd like a second cocktail. Overall, not bad, but not great. read more

Pleasant environment and enjoyed a bit of nice conversation with bartender and two other patrons. Cool country tavern vibe. The tuna avocado small plate was way too small. The pork bellies on wraps a little better as you were given two. But I felt overall the price was too high for the portions given. I have had small plates/appetizers at nearby quality restaurants that were delicious and a better value. Dinner menu prices looked steep too. I did enjoy the food flavors. I also thought the drink menu was decent. If money was no object, I would be likely to return often. Will return but I have some other Cape institutions with lower price points that will get my more frequent business. Perhaps when I win the lottery that will change. read more

This place is quintessential cape/ New England restaurant. Had the lobster mac n cheese and the garlic shrimp and it was delicious. The staff was good and attentive even though they were fairly busy. We came for dinner on New Year's Eve and everything was absolutely fabulous. The creative appetizer of a deconstructed blini (sp?) and lox was discussed over multiple courses after we finished. Our server was so attentive and offered drinks when we had exactly three sips remaining so the refills were perfectly timed. We split a few desserts but the chocolate bread pudding was the star. Ambiance was the ideal location to welcome 2024, with the caveat of one table nearby that was trying to cause a scene and fight with themselves and the staff about the menu but once they departed we were able to enjoy our meal in peace. Food descriptions are exquisite - taste / execution was 1/10. Very disappointing and will recommend against visiting. Drinks awful - they'd obviously run out of mint and lime so missing from drinks or replaced with lemon. Good appetizers - sea salt fries and salad Mains very average - the Seared Local Scallop with Summer Vegetable Risotto had virtually no vegetables. Included small dices of carrot that were hard and freezer burned. The Vietnamese Caramelized Beef Short Rib had no flavor - described as cooking with "Nuoc Mau Sauce | Star Anise | Ginger | Coco Rico" - none of these flavors were discernible Dessert - disappointing - Warm Molten Lava Chocolate Cake was solid all the way through. Tried this place for the first time. It was a busy Thursday night (before Memorial Day). The young waiter was moving quickly through tables. He got us in and out quickly without rushing us. The food was so good! I heard it was a place known for burgers. Well my husband got the plain Jane burger and loved it! I got the Merguez Spiced Wild Atlantic Salmon with veggies and fingerling sweet potatoes. There was a sweet drizzle and sauce that was absolutely delicious! I loved that it was just a casual place like being in someone's home. Will definitely be back when we can sit outside. read more

One of the worst experiences I have had on the Cape. While the waitress was wonderful, the willingness of the management to take responsibility for their mistakes was inexcusable. Firstly, the Old Fashion was watered down, barely muddled and poorly constructed. The burger, while tasty, was overcooked to medium well- well and I requested medium rare and my wife's duck was poorly rendered. I had only taken two bites of my burger and shared the duck with my wife. To end it, we tried the bread pudding which the kitchen said that it had peanuts. I took two bites and my mouth immediately became raw as I am allergic to walnuts, which there were plenty of. When the bill came, they removed the dessert but would not remove the poorly cooked burger...really? I guess liability out ways proper cooking technique and basic courtesies. I felt I paid way to much money to leave hungry. I would not recommend this place and would actively avoid it. read more

Quite possibly the best meal I have had at a restaurant on the cape. I had never even heard of Mooncusser until we stumbled across it tonight, and I am so happy we did. For a Wednesday night, the parking lot was packed but we were Sat immediately with four people. The building looks like a remodeled old cape cod style house and the inside decor is homey, cozy and welcoming. It feels as though you are dining at a friends house. We tried a few cocktails off the martini list. The French martini was strong but slightly sweet and garnished with the juiciest, sweetest oranges I have ever had. The Brazilian chocolate martini was similar to a dessert martini but we loved the sweetness. The pear martini was also good but the first two were superior. Our server Tara knew the menu inside and out and gave amazing suggestions throughout the meal. She was far from overbearing but was always there when we needed her. She made our meal even more wonderful than it would have been without her. She was the perfect addition to a lovely night and we would certainly request her when we return. I suggest you do the same. From the tapas menu we tried the pork belly, steak and eggs and the beef carpaccio. The beef carpaccio preparation was refreshing and light served on a lovely french baguette with fresh shaved Parmesan and greens. My favorite of the 3 was the steak and eggs; tender steak cooked perfectly medium rare with a sunny side up egg and flavorful jasmine rice and a tasty sauce. It would even be great as a smaller sized entree. The pork belly was uniquely prepared but we noticed the slab of pork belly itself overpowered the other portions of compliments and we wished we had a little more egg and french toast. The seafood parpardelle entree was the winner piled high with perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp, scallops, and lobster for only $32. The light butter sauce was the perfect compliment. If you are hungry, try the wild boar shank which was extremely tender and served with the most amazing buttermilk mashed potatoes to ever grace the earth. The tuna and avocado burger was also quite good. I love trying interested combos and this didn't disappoint. The tuna was fresh and the avocado was ripened perfectly. Burger was cooker perfectly in duck fat which made it so much more flavorful than the average burger. Desserts....we tried one of each offering; a vanilla bean creme Brulee and chocolate caramel bread pudding. They were both beyond amazing and maybe even the best part of the meal if that's even possible to decipher. We loved the hint of lavender infused into the brulee and the amazing bread pudding texture hidden in the flavor of an amazing chocolate cake. All in all, I'm sure you can tell that our bill was quite hefty, but the meal was so satisfying and impressive that it was completely worth it. We will be back. read more

Wonderful Food and Atmosphere. The owners Patrick and Anaïs were extremely friendly and sweet. The wife is from the south of France, and the food is very authentic and reminiscent of my time in Toulouse. The food is fresh, and there is an excellent wine selection. We started with the calamari battonets, the tuna avocado tempura, a house salad and the Drambuie Mussels. Best calamari I have ever had with a light asian style sauce. The house salad was a big hit- beautiful plating and yummy dressing! We then ordered the steak frites (with an authentic sauce similar to Toulouse's Entrecôte) and delicious duck fat frites. The day boat scallops on risotto, the salmon with spaghetti squash, the California tuna avo burger and the shrimp, lobster and scallop pappardelle We ended the night with the chocolate bread pudding (Fantastic!) Everything was delicious, the hits of the night were the salmon with risotto, the seafood pappardelle and the steak frites. This review is for the inn; we didn't have the opportunity to visit the restaurant due to COVID-19 restrictions. Overall, it's a super cute tavern/inn, with a classic Cape feel. It's a neat (very) old building with plenty of modern touches. The manager (?) we interacted with, Annie, was gracious and friendly. When you arrive, go in the center door, and a small flight of stairs takes you up to the rooms above the restaurant. Room 1 was spacious, with a comfortable king bed and a little seating area. It perfectly fit what we were looking for -- lowkey but nice. Reasonable rates, a local business, and plenty of old Cape charm? We'll be back -- maybe even again this summer! Our first evening in Cape Cod and we decided on this lovely restaurant. At first, I wasn't too impressed with our server. He didn't seem like he was all that interested in his job. I asked him about the salmon dishes and he said that he couldn't tell me since he doesn't like salmon. That was it, no other information. Just stood there looking at me. So I had to ask him if it sold well and then he said yes, it was very popular. I went ahead and ordered the salmon special since I was in the mood for it. Hubby ordered the cod fish sandwich. After I ordered the special, I called the server back to ask if there was any meat in the special and he said no. He asked if we wanted bread and we said yes. He later came back and said that one of the side dishes that came with the special was cooked in chicken stock and he could arrange for veggies instead. That was very perceptive of him. Our meals arrived and they were both excellent! My salmon was cooked to perfection, had crabmeat and a wonderful topping. It came with roasted sweet potato slices and the parsnips were great. I asked him about the bread and he said it was served with duck fat butter and he didn't think I'd want that. I told him I wanted the bread anyway, just no butter. Again, he got that I am a pescatarian but really, he should have asked me. I'm glad I insisted because the bread was to die for! Home made, I could tell by the slicing, and the server verified it. YUM! A gentleman that appeared to be the owner or manager was making the rounds inquiring about everyone's dinner. That was a nice touch.
