By far my favorite building downtown! Every time I walk through this building I am so happy. It is clean, bright and refined. The floral bouquets on the skyway level are grand and the blown glass on display in enclosed glass cabinets are beautiful. Although I am not a fan of Peace coffee since their coffee is too strong for my personal taste, I do enjoy lounging in the Capella tower common area right across from Peace on the street level. The seating area is open to the public, warm, inviting and super comfortable. People utilize the various seating areas for casual coffee gatherings, study sessions, business meetings etc. Whether it is during the winter months when the fire place is going or during the winter months when the waterfall is cascading down in the center of the circular seats, the Capella Tower seating area is quite welcoming for any work/study related occasion.

I like the stores and good eats in this neighbourhood. I've always felt comfortable visiting universities and checking out campuses. It's no different here. I had a friend who got his master and doctorate degrees from this university, so I got to hear about his experiences when we both lived in Minnesota. I am a hockey fan. The UMN has a decent hockey program, both men's and women's. You often see local talent make it to the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Frost rosters, respectively. Alex Goligoski, who recently retired from the NHL, played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers at UMN before he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He won the Stanley Cup with this team, but spent his last three years with the Wild as a defenseman. During his 1,000th NHL game, he scored the game-winning goal, which was quite the storybook ending. As of late, Brock Faber is a solid defenseman on the Wild. He is starting his second full season with the team and was captain of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He is young, but exceptionally skilled and mature beyond his years. Taylor Heise, who is a forward for the PWHL's Minnesota Frost, played for the Minnesota women's hockey team. The Frost won the Walter Cup and she won the Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP award. If I were looking into academics, UMN has both computer science and mathematics departments that would have appealed to me. It is similar to York University in that you can choose to do either a Bachelor of Arts or Science in either field. Only a Master of Science is available in both. You can also study towards a PhD in either domain. UMN has a Bachelor of Science in Technical Writing and Communication. Many universities start off offering Technical Writing degrees as an Arts degree. I like the shift with universities going with a Bachelor of Science. Technical writers are needed more than ever to explain technical, complex details as clearly and concisely in engineering, medical, and more. It's makes more sense that it's a Science degree. This university does not offer graduate degrees in Technical Writing. It's one reason why I didn't do my Master's here. I don't have any inclination to get a doctorate. If UMN offered one in my chosen field, I'd consider it if the price is affordable and I could do it remotely. It was nice being back in the area. (394)

For an adult learner, they offer the "Augsburg for Adults" or AFA program. This program recognizes the needs of a busy adult with a full time job and a family and still allows you to complete a traditional 4 year bachelor's degree, at a real accredited college. Signing up as an adult, you are allowed to transfer in a lot of the credits you may have done at a prior college. If you started but never finished, or did a 2 year at a community college, or even a little bit of trade school (or for-profit schooling) you will have some of your credits transfer. Classes are offered every other weekend, in 4 hour long sessions. So the classroom time equals out to be the exact same as a regular daytime student in a traditional program.... you are just condensing it into bigger blocks, so you don't have to show up as often. Having class only twice a month works well for me as an adult. The cost is reasonable for a private college - though much higher than a community college. A traditional 4 credit class at Augsburg in the AFA program is around $1,700. They work with your employer if you have tuition reimbursement available. Also, this isn't really well known, but there is a regional student loan program out of North Dakota called the DEAL loan. This is probably one of the best private loans available out there. Luckily Minnesota students are eligible (only3 or 4 states are eligible). Look into that and into federal stafford loans if you need some financing. The instructors have generally been top notch professors, although I have had a couple stinkers. One was a tenured professor who was absolutely full of himself, and one was a grad student who was trying to make some money as a part time instructor. Both were terrible. Otherwise though I've been very pleased with the teaching talent at Augsburg. If you're an adult learner, I find that the AFA program is a really good fit and there is a lot of support for adult learners. The staff in this program are very supportive in making you feel like you get the whole college experience yet also have your unique needs as an adult student taken care of. It's been a great experience for me. I've got less than a year left to graduation with two degrees!

Working on the front lines showed me how every registration, every workflow, and every administrative decision directly shaped a patient's experience. That understanding stayed with me, guiding each step of my career and ultimately inspiring me to pursue advanced education so I could influence healthcare at a deeper, more systemic level. I chose Walden University because of a simple but powerful moment: my friend Bronte looked at me one day and said, "Let's be doctors." She was already enrolled at Walden and encouraged me to join her. What began as a conversation between friends became a turning point in my life. Walden offered the flexibility, academic rigor, and supportive environment I needed to grow -- and it became the place where I discovered my voice as a healthcare leader. One of the most defining experiences of my doctoral journey was working with my capstone mentor, Dr. Miriam Ross. She didn't just guide my dissertation -- she transformed the way I think, write, and lead. Dr. Ross pushed me to write from the heart, to connect policy with humanity, and to trust my own perspective as both a practitioner and a scholar. She brought out the author in me, helping me turn my lived experiences into meaningful research. Under her mentorship, my dissertation became more than an academic requirement; it became a reflection of my commitment to improving emergency department wait times and patient access. Earning my doctorate has reshaped the way I serve patients and lead teams. It made me more policy focused, more intentional, and more strategic. I now approach workflows not just as tasks to complete, but as opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and patient experience. Whether I'm implementing new processes, training staff, or redesigning operational systems, I'm guided by the belief that thoughtful policy and strong leadership can change outcomes for entire communities. To anyone who is on the fence about pursuing their degree, I would say this: your future patients, colleagues, and community are waiting for the version of you that steps forward, not the version that hesitates. Growth requires courage, but the impact you can make -- on people, on systems, on healthcare as a whole -- is worth every challenge along the way.
