Smoked Wings (Grumpy Legba Dry Rub)

Ordered Smoked Wings and Mac N Cheese for take out. The wings were nice size had a great smoke to them with their Grumpy Legba seasoning for a dry rub had great steakhouse flavor. Mac N Cheese had a good cheesy blend to it and a pretty good portion for the price. It's Family owned, down home kitchen vibe, that has a passion for Cajun/Creole and soul food fusion. They're looking at getting their liquor license, making seasonal changes with the menu, and doing some Brunch Service. This place will grow if you give them a chance. Give your taste buds a reward, and tell them JD Minneapolis sent you.

I checked out Burnt Chicken and this spot was an ultimate vibe. From the moment you walk in, it feels like a true Black-owned spot with great energy and flavor all around. I tried three items including the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, which had a fire rub and a tasty sauce on the side. The mac and cheese was nice and creamy, and the banana foster made for the perfect dessert to finish off the night. There's street parking available, and the prices are pretty good, not too expensive at all. The service was dope and the employees were super nice, which made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu.

My wife and I had been hearing a lot about this St Paul hidden gem, so we finally decided to check it out for ourselves. When we walked in, it wasn't too busy, which I actually liked. A young man greeted us right away and gave us the option of a booth or a table, we went with a booth. He came back shortly after to take our drink order. I asked about the hibiscus lemonade, and when he said it was really good, I gave it a try. My wife got a Diet Coke. For food, we shared the Cajun mac and cheese, she ordered the voodoo smash burger, and I went with the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It took a little while for the food to come out, and there was a small mix-up with the order, however they fixed it quickly and made things right. The food was excellent, seasoned perfectly and full of flavor. My chicken sandwich had the perfect amount of spice, and my wife really liked her burger. She's already talking about wanting to come back and try more things off the menu. The place itself has a cozy, slightly old-school vibe that we both liked. Everything looked clean, and the young man who helped us was polite, attentive and helpful. Even with the little hiccup, they handled it well, and that goes a long way with me. Overall, it was a great experience, and we'll definitely return.

Highly underrated spot of the East side! Friendly people who care about bringing good food and experiences to the community and I'm happy to keep supporting them. I was so happy to see this place open and everyone I recommend it to loves it. Unfortunately the only parking is street parking which can be hard on Payne but it's well worth it.

@burntchkn_ was lights out! This was my fist time checking them out at their new location since opening up on Payne Ave on the East Side in St Paul. Previously, owner and cook, Bernard Collins had Burnt Chicken as a pop up operation, then he was in First Draft in Minneapolis. Now, Burnt Chicken has been operating in their own restaurant for the past year in the former Ward 6/East Side Bar. I tried three of their sandwiches and all three were insanely good: - Fried Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich: Fried Chicken Thigh, Hot Oil, Hot Seasoning, Country Slaw, House Pickles, Come Back Sauce. (The heat was a very subtle heat. You can totally do it. Great spice flavor but not "make you sweat" hot) - Bourbon Chicken Sandwich: Fried Chicken Thigh, Bourbon Glaze, Pineapple Slaw, Come Back Sauce - Voodoo Smashed Burger: 2 All Beef Patties Smashed, Voodoo Pepper Sauce, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Provolone Cheese, and Come Back Sauce. The Voodoo Peppers Sauce was out of this world! They're close on getting their liquor license, but it's worth it to head in and try their menu! Other items include: Poboy's (shrimp and catfish), jambalaya fried rice, Cajun Mac n cheese, and Salad! DELISH!!

Heard about this place and finally got to visit. There was street parking and it was kind of hard to find because theres no sign, but I'm sure they will fix that. Ordered 2 orders of wings, mac n cheese, and jambalaya rice. Everything was good flavor wise, the rice was a little undercooked in spots but the flavor was there. The bar isn't set up yet so for drinks I got a bottle of water and a can of coke. Staff was very friendly and even the cook spoke with us. From what I know, this is newly opened, so this review was primarily about the food since they still need to get the bar up and running. Hopefully they spruce up the place to add some of their personal branding. Wouldn't mind going back in the future to try the sandwiches.

This place was so fun! I want to start off by saying the chicken was wonderfully juicy and crispy. If that is what you are looking for I cannot recommend it enough. I wasn't too impressed by the fries, and the sauce/toppings on the sandwich weren't quite as good as the chicken itself. I would say it's priced fairly I got a full stomach (and I can eat a lot) for under 20 dollars which for this quality of food is solid. It was cozy and the service was good as well. No complaints there!

First off I want to say I love the chef and whomever came up with this restaurant. MF G status with the catfish. This might be better than the catfish in Kansas City OMFG!! Take it back.. IT IS BETTER!!! It's crispy juicy flavored perfectly. I could easily eat eight of these in one sitting. The chicken was seasoned like they do with their wings at Chinese restaurant spots. It's flaky juicy crispy. I don't know why there wasn't a line out of the door. I also got the Cajun dry rub wings. You know how there's a drink called sex on the beach? These are sex on the wings. This is a full f**king foodgasm and honestly it's even amazing without the the ranch. There's no way I could've sat and ate cause I would've been dancing and singing love songs!! I just took a bite from the bourbon chicken sandwich!! This place is unreal!! The burger is HANDS DOWN the best chicken sandwich in ALL of the twin cities. Nobody is Minneapolis could handle a candle to this sandwich! The seasoned fries go perfectly too. You don't need to add anything to this masterpiece. This was my first time here but definitely not the last. I might want to move into the neighborhood lol. I would totally be a regular! They would know me by name lol. And I don't want just what I just had I want to try everything on the menu. Not one thing I ordered was originally. Rich juicy flavor town. If you haven't been here yet you're a criminal for not coming here. Saint Paul we have a super underrated gem. This place is the definition of LOVE. I LOVE YOU BURNT CHICKEN I have no shame in my game I'm about to go in a food coma, so thank you again. See you soon

I met up with my cousin at this new restaurant and food is delicious. We ordered the bourbon chicken sandwich and Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Both patties were fried to perfection, big slices, crispy and juicy. Our server was very attentive and checked in on us often. The dry rub wings were also delicious, has a kick to it also. Restaurant is actually big, lots of tables to accommodate groups and seating at the bar also available.

    Amanda N.

Had a wonderful time at Burnt Chicken! We tried the fried chicken sandwich and Cajun fries, the Mac and cheese, and the shrimp po boy. Absolutely delicious! The food was flavorful, well seasoned, and crispy. The po boy had a generous amount of shrimp. Great service and enjoyed the ambiance.

This place just opened and is working out some start up growing pains. They don't appear to have their liquor license. The menu only had food options. They looked like they had ice teas or lemonades on the bar, but our server only offered us waters. The place is super cute with a fair amount of small to medium party tables. They do have a parking lot in the back. The chicken was crispy and the burger was juicy. Fries are ala carte. We did wait about 45 minutes to get food when we were one of only a few tables in the ordering phase.

    Spicey Chicken Sandwhich
    Luke G.

Honestly, it is the best spicey chicken sandwich I've ever had. It was perfection. Perfect amount of spice, the pickles, the coleslaw, on a toasted bun. The food took a long time to come out, and the staff could have been happier and more helpful. The staff was grumpy, but the chef was happy and having a great time... often welcoming people coming in and saying bye as they leave (all from behind the stove).

We love this restaurant and Chef. We have been following him for some time and are thrilled he has his own place now. Food is made with quality ingredients and portion sizes are great for the price.

We also shared combo 1 and added 1lb of snow crab (two clusters). The House Cajun sauce was good, but heavy on garlic/"jarlic" and could have been saucier. Next time I'd ask for/order a side of extra sauce for dipping. The dish could have used more than 2 (halves) or corn on the cob. Everything in the boil tasted good! Some other highlights: 1) there's a shared parking lot to the side of the building as well as metered parking in the front. It was busy when I went, so I parked around the corner- for free. 2) I wasn't a fan of the ordering process. Before I get into why, I'd recommend browsing the menu ahead of time to determine what you want. That said, we had a reservation (on Valentine's Day) and the place was understandably busy. There wasn't a hostess station so we headed to the register to check-in. That's where we learned that before being seated, we'd have to first order (and pay). With how extensive the menu was, and crowded the immediate area was- the process felt a bit chaotic and overwhelming. 3) The space is cute. A good amount of tables, and simple but cute decor. After being seated, staff stopped by at different points with bibs, gloves, and disposable plates/utensils. 4) Food took a long time to come out, but I won't ding them because again... it was busy. However, having to remind and re-remind staff of missing items (rice, garlic bread) did leave an unfavorable impression. My hope is things are more buttoned-up on an average day. That said, while I'm giving grace for the cons I still rate it as okay. I'd be down for giving it another shot during a non-peak period to see if the experience is better or the same.
