My wife's birthday fell on Easter Sunday this year, and we decided to have Easter Brunch at Capers with some friends. We called earlier in the week but were told that reservations were not being accepted for Easter. Made sure we arrived before noon to avoid the crowd coming straight from church. Got there about 11:30 and the wait was expected to be 30-40 minutes. The women enjoyed mimosas at the bar while we were waiting. A little after noon, we checked back with the hostess, only to find out that they had given our table for seven to another party (not sure why the woman would tell us that and have no explanation at all) and we needed to wait another 90 minutes. While we were grousing about the wait, they came up with a table at 12:20 - looks like we were all bxtching for nothing. Got seated, ordered appetizers and drinks, and everything was looking up. Then, the waiter came for the entree orders, and it went downhill. He was obviously busy and stressed, and it showed in his comments. Not helpful at all, and got testy with some of the folks in our party. It was bad enough that even the easy-going amongst us noticed. One friend asked him how it was going, and he made it plain that he's not used to working this hard. Really? Who would say that to a tip-paying customer? Our food came out promptly enough, and it was good for the most part. Don't order the shrimp bisque, but everything else was fine. Overall , everyone liked their meal, but I was taken aback when my check for four for brunch totaled triple digits. I suspect that they provide much better service during normal times, but the prices are too high for what you get. read more

I have to agree with the more recent reviews... this place is great. I am not sure what it was like in 2009, when the bad reviews were posted, but this place is excellent now (2011-2012). Quite possibly the best filet in all of Little Rock. Very tender, juicy, tasty, and cooked perfectly. Don't forget about half-off bottles of wine M-Th. The service is excellent, and complements the great atmosphere. The bar is a bit small, but I can't imagine going to this place and not sitting at the table ordering a large meal. There are better places to go if all you want is a bar. Definitely as good as it gets in Little Rock! read more

A favorite hotspot for lunch, if you're in West Little Rock. Though you wouldn't expect it, Capers has the best burger in town...the Blue Cheese Burger. So fantastic. I'd also recommend the Guacamole Burger. Most lunch dishes are under $10. read more

Good, solid menu--as in lots of fat, meat, cheese. Kind of old school Little Rock/southern cuisine. Hard to eat healthy or light--and salads are no longer acceptable as the only healthy choice. Totally tasty, but wish that there were options that didn't clog my carotid artery. read more

Went to Capers for a birthday lunch with friends. Three of us ordered the guacamole burger and were told it came (at no extra charge) with choice of fries, onion rings or Capers potatoes. We all chose onion rings and when we got our bill we were charged an extra $2.50 for the onion rings. When asked about it our waiter was extremely rude. No apology, he said well some ingredients cost more and you got a free piece of cheesecake. (We had ordered the cheesecake for the birthday girl and expected to pay for it). The food was good but the rudeness of the waiter left a really bad taste in our mouth. We didn't mind the extra charge so much as the attitude of the waiter. read more

Recently Capers catered a Christmas party here at my home. Absolutely the best experience I've ever had. The food, all homemade, was the most flavorful party food I've ever had. From beef tenderloin to the shrimp and grits, the variety and presentation of all was outstanding. The worker bees were so professional. They moved around with such grace and guests remarked how attentive they were. Upon leaving everything was in place and clean. My two dogs vacuumed. Highly recommend. read more

Our usual "go to" place for anniversary dinners. Last night was a birthday celebration so we were looking forward to the same great food and service we usually receive. We ordered a bottle of white wine which was (eventually) delivered sans anything to keep the bottle cool. (Unusual). It took awhile to order an appetizer and I asked about bread (which is a big improvement over the yucky bread they used to have). I asked about the bread again when he brought the app. He said something like "oh yeah". The bread didn't appear until our dinner did (after I asked again). I wish we could leave a separate rating for service because the food was great (so I felt badly for only 3 stars). We had some trouble getting our waiters attention to get the check and then again to pick it up with my credit card. When he finally did come pick it up he went to talk and laugh with three (yes three) other tables while holding and before running my card. My husband said not to leave a tip but I couldn't bring myself to do that. Next time we will avoid this waiter and will hopefully have a better experience. read more

Very good meal and excellent service. I had the mixed grill special (red snapper and mahi mahi). It was delicious. The wedge salad was incredible as well. The service is always excellent. The wine is always top quality bit the menu needs an update. One example is the "Arkansas's Best salad," which comes with standard hot house tomatoes like you buy at the store. They are half ripe and not fresh heirloom tomatoes like the description. I had been to capers more than a year ago and remember it being a fantastic meal. Tonight I had an a craving for seafood so thought I would give capers another go. It was not as good as I recalled my previous meal. I had the mahi-mahi with citrus glaze and the mango avocado salsa. I expected a flavorful and lively dish. and while the mango avocado salsa was refreshing the mahi-mahi was dry with little flavor. The waiter did a great job of taking care of my request to swap the grits out for white cheddar mashed potatoes. I had the cream of mushroom soup which was out of this world! I could've probably made a meal out of that alone! My friend ordered the ribeye and said it was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. We split a chocolate Keylime pie which was a fairly odd combination but could have had potential. I probably wouldn't order it a second time. Service was great and wine list had excellent variety. This was my third visit to capers. The first two were enjoyable. At the most recent visit, we ordered the confetti dip and I had the salmon salad. Not sure which item caused it, but I had 24 hour food poisoning. It was probably the salmon salad since my roommate ordered the same thing and got sick as well, nobody else was affected. I made a reservation for the private room days in advance to interview a potential partner in a group luncheon. One partner arrived at the agreed to time to find our room had been given to a random group that just showed up. The remainder of us arrived 15 minutes later to find them hesitant to now accommodate us. We were told by the manager that the large group stated that my last name was their party. She then said they don't have any way to check to see if that is really their name. 5 minutes later the waiter tells me that they gave the room away because he called my phone that am to reconfirm and I didn't answer. We were finally seated but I wanted to visit with the manager on duty again to get to the bottom of the discrepancy in the 2 stories. She then implied that it was our fault that the reserved room was given away because we didn't let them know we were running late- despite the fact that one of our party members was there exactly on time. They did provide a free dessert tray, however, the improvised seating allowed only 4 of the 9 partners to have an opportunity to visit. My salad was fine. Some of my other partners were unhappy with the quality of the entree. I will not look to them for a professional luncheon venue in the future. read more

My favorite Little Rock restaurant. I like it so well that I give gift certificates from Capers for Christmas and birthday gifts. The avocado/shrimp salad is wonderful as is the shrimp bisque. As soon as we walked in we felt extremely un welcomed. It's my birthday today, so we were wanting to have some drinks and eat some good food in a nice setting. We sat on the patio. We were the only people out here and there was a male server who was picking stuff up and our server was taking my order. I asked about champagne, the male server then laughs when I asked about it, and the female server laughed also. It took about 20 minutes for us to get two drinks that were simple. As for the appetizers, the confetti dip came out almost cold. The crawfish crab cakes were amazing though. We ordered our entrees (both consisted of a capers potato side), she doesn't inform us that they are out of the potatoes until she brings us our entrees. I would have never ordered my food knowing that. It was a 30 minute difference between ordering our entrees and getting the food. She had plenty of time to tell us. The caesar salad lettuce tasted like it was pulled right out of the ground. This has been the worst service and the worst food I've ever experienced. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Whoa, what an unfortunate experience. The server was trying hard enough, but the advice was terribly wrong ("always choose the special -- the chef is a master") and the food was worse, far far worse. I had a light-fleshed fish, like mahi-mahi, yet it was tough, flavorless and swam in a forgettable creamy sauce-like mix. Just awful. My wife had bacon-wrapped shrimp that was overcooked and oily.
