So, I've been contemplating the purchase of new dance shoes for several months. I have many pairs since I am a dancer, so the thought of dropping the big dollars on another pair seemed a bit daunting. However, I did not have a pair for Zumba or contemporary jazz dancing and quite frankly, my shoes for lindy hop and ballroom weren't quite cutting it for contemporary. And my running shoes were KILLING my knees from Zumba. Seriously. I made the decision to purchase dance sneakers and jazz shoes. Best decision ever! My knees are now my friends for life (one would hope) because I can groove to the beat without my knees thinking that they are supposed to be firmly planted to the floor. Okay. Enough about the shoes. Let's talk about the store itself. You know, I like this place. I like it even better now that I know what I'm doing and have been dancing for years. Your experience here is much easier if you do your research ahead of time and tell the staff specifically what you want. My first trip here (in 2008) made me leave feeling like a socially awkward teenage girl. Which is probably due to myself being overwhelmed and being completely not knowledgeable about ballroom dance shoes. I think they can sniff out the newbies here. I was a little worried from previous reviews about what kind of service I would get but the woman who helped me was very helpful, patient and pleasant. Capezio Dance Theatre Shop in Sacramento is the best dance store around! I have purchased many pairs of pointe shoes, tights, leotards, jazz shoes and more from them for years. Linda and Sheila are wonderful, and have always taken such good care of my dance needs. Linda is very knowledgable about pointe shoes, and after she fits me in the perfect pair, which is the only pair of pointe shoes I purchase now, I bring them in after a couple weeks of use and she makes sure they are still looking great and are breaking in properly. Sheila even went so far as to special order my pointe shoes (at no cost!) because I needed them for a performance coming up, and called me every day to update me on the tracking information and when my shoes would arrive. They came in shortly after and I had plenty of time to break them in before the show. All in all Capezio in Sacramento is the best, and I only trust them with my dance needs. They listen to me, give me honest opinions, and make me feel so special, the way every dancer should feel. read more

The owner is absolutely and completely dreadful. I have never in my life experienced such negative or terrible customer service than when I go there and the owner, Linda, is the one helping me out. I l grew up just a few minutes from the store so it has always been the go-to place for me if I ever needed anything last minute. When I first went on pointe when I was 11 years old she fitted me for my first pair of shoes and she was very condescending and treated me as if I had really bad feet. That is a very exciting time in a young ballet dancer's career, and she crushed it for me, making me feel inadequate. Over the years it has been that type of treatment all along. I haven't only noticed it with myself, but I have seen her treat others the same way and know of other people who avoid going to the store because of the way she has treated them in the past. I have also seen the way she treats customers in the checkout line. I was in there today and she saw the type of ballet slippers a young girl was holding in her hand. Linda proceeded to tell her how awful the shoes were and how she sent them all back and doesn't sell them because she thinks they are terrible. She doesn't let people just buy what they want, she has to let them know that what they are buying really sucks if that is her opinion about it. She has lost a ton of local business selling pointe shoes to The Dance Bag in Modesto. The woman there that fits the pointe shoes is totally amazing and will really get you in the right shoe. I was dancing on pointe for about 8 years before I finally went there and got fitted for the perfect shoe. And to really prove my point about Linda: when I went to Capezio for a last minute purchase for my new shoe, Linda didn't sell them because she thinks they are "crap." read more

Unfortunately, this is the closest dance shop to me. The merchandise is not that bad, it's good for if you need something last minute. However, I would rather drive someplace else than deal with the owner. She is SO rude and disrespectful. She tells girls they can never dance ballet because they have horrible feet. She was also EXTREMELY condescending on the phone with me. I called to ask what time they closed and she told me in the rudest tone, "Six and it is now 5:30... that means we close in a half an hour." i am extremely furious at the way the owner of capezios treated me. the owner was disrespectful, unpleasant, rude, and I am very disappointed with my purchase. I would not recommend that anyone ever purchase pointe shoes (or anything to be quite honest as most of their inventory is low quality and over priced) from capezio. the brands they keep in stock are some of the worst shoes you could purchase quality wise and they don't offer any of the nicer brands that last. I went in the store about two weeks ago to purchase pointe shoes and I knew what I wanted but the owner insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about and was extremely condescending. she ended up giving me a different brand, claiming they "last longer" and ignored my requests for a stronger shank even though I know what shank I need. The fitting took almost an hour because of her lethargic, unenthusiastic attitude, despite the fact I had stressed that I was in a rush. It felt like talking to a brick wall because she completely disregarded anything I said. as a dancer it's important to understand what your body needs and she did not respect my personal preferences and insisted that she knew everything there was to know. Condescending, belittling, and arrogant. The shoes that were given to me lasted only two weeks. TWO. WEEKS. pointe shoes are supposed to last 3-4 months. I spent $80 on shoes that were broken and completely useless in less than 14 days. I only dance en pointe for about 1.5 hours 4 days a week. Taking that into consideration, the pointe shoes that this woman insisted would last longer than the usual ones I buy lasted me a mere 24 hours of total use. of course I was outraged to find that my $80 went to waste on low quality shoes and I had been completely mislead about the quality of the shoes. I then decided that I would call capezio to inform them that I was not pleased with my purchase of SoDanca pointe shoes and that they did not last as the owner said they would. when I called I simply said "I would like to give some feedback about the pointe shoes I bought two weeks ago. they didn't last very long and I was not happy with my purchase." the owner was incredibly disrespectful. she immediately told me that I was wrong and that SoDanca shoes do last, despite my experience. I tried to explain to her that I was just calling to give feedback but she cut me off every time I began to talk! I could not believe that a business owner would tell the customer that they are wrong, insist I don't know what I'm talking about, and even interrupt me on the phone multiple times, completely disregarding what I was saying. it was incredibly disrespectful and I am outraged at how I was treated. the owner of capezio is condescending, arrogant, ill-mannered, and incredibly inconsiderate. she is lacking a lot of information and it seems to me that she would say anything to sell the low quality shoes that the store keeps in stock. do NOT buy your pointe shoes at capezios. they do not carry any brands that are high quality and seem quite desperate to sell their low quality stock. I have never been more upset with a business owner. i honestly wish there was a rating lower than one star to accurately describe the disrespect I experienced. read more

We have been buying ballet and tap shoes for many years at Capezio. Recently, we needed to buy my one of my daughters her first pair of pointe shoes. We made an appointment with the owner, and were pleasantly surprised at how much time and care she took in going over pointe shoe care, how to sew the elastics and ribbons properly, even how to store them in her dance bag so they could last longer (which I sincerely appreciate, given what pointe shoes cost these days!). We left with a perfectly fitted pair. My daughter has not had a single blister, and uses almost no padding in her shoes. Great pointe shoe fitting! I would highly recommend the Capezio store for dance purchases large and small. read more

I have never taken the time to write a review on Yelp before. I hope that gives people an idea of how good our experience was dealing with Linda for pointe shoes at the Sacramento Capezio. My daughter's ballet teacher had instructed us to go to San Francisco for our first fitting. At the time I wasn't particularly impressed with San Francisco, but never having gone through the experience before, I had no idea what to expect or what they should be doing. A young girl brought out lots of pointe shoes, had my daughter put them on herself and didn't ask much more than "do you like them". On the way out, they told her to pick some silicon pads if she wanted them. No instruction on how to pad your feet and we were told to look on U-tube for instructions on how to sew on the elastics and ribbons. It all seemed fine at the time because, what did we know"? For our second fitting we went to the Sacramento Capezio. What a night and day experience. First of all, we didn't have an appointment and we had left our old shoes at home in Placer County. Not a problem , they were happy to help us! After looking at what had already happened to my daughter's feet after dancing in her old shoes for 9 months, which included the Sac Ballet summer intensive, Linda pointed out where my daughter's feet were already showing problems from a poor original fitting. My daughter has a very high arch and a big toe that is much longer than all of her other toes. Linda started with padding that she cut into custom shapes, lambs wool, and silicone pads and worked her way out to get a good fit. My daughter had no idea that you could dance in pointe shoes without it being painful. I appreciated her knowledge and respect for matching the feet to the proper shoe. I had never met Linda before or heard anything about her, so I came in with an open mind. I found Linda to be very pleasant and caring. If you are overly sensitive about your children's feelings, then maybe you should consider not getting them involved in any visual or performing arts. If you can not appreciate corrections then you have no business in dance. Visual and performing arts students will only get better if they are open to being corrected and applying those corrections. If you children have not been taught good ballet technique, then you should be open to having that pointed out by someone who has been in the dance world for a long time and who knows what they are doing. read more

I have been getting my twins ballet shoes here for 11 years. We had a costume change issue with our ballet company and they were wonderful in assisting us through this frustrating situation. I appreciate the manager (I forgot your name- I'm so sorry)!!! who has provided us consistently with fantastic customer service over the years . She is truly a kind human being and goes the extra mile to assist always. In fact, all the staff is extremely warm, helpful and friendly. Charlie was helping us this past weekend and she was a gem as well, going the extra mile to make sure shoes were properly fitted and offering choices. The store has lots of choices!!!. In fact, the store has a great selection of shoes, tights and outfits. Something for everyone and plenty of places to sit while you have kids trying on shoes. They also are conveniently located in Sacramento and have plenty of free parking, Lastly, their prices are reasonable, unlike many other placesI I just love this store and you will too. I went in here with my husband to get dance shoes for ballroom lessons. They were a bit busy when we went in, but as soon as someone could help us they did. The women (and one guy) who were working that day were extremely nice and helpful. They had a good selection of shoes for women and men, and we left with a pair of shoes each. What was really nice was they threw in a metal brush to clean the bottom of our shoes and gave us helpful tips for care and cleaning of them. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who needs comfortable dance shoes. read more

This place is great if you only want Bloch pointe shoes. If you are looking for another brand, she will not sell them to you, even though she claims that she has many brands. She would rather rip, break, glue and bend Blochs than fit another brand on your foot. Odd behavior for a shop owner, unless she is getting a big markup on one brand. I know girls who go to Modesto or Roseville just to get away from this woman and her abuse. We are used to it and have nice feet so get our shoes here. read more

As an adult begging ballet student I appreciate this shop. It's not too kiddie, if you know what I mean. Most dance shops only target the young crowd. This shop has a decent selection of adult leotards, body suits, dance shorts and shoes. Prices are pretty good too. I compared the prices to Amazon and found Capezio to be a better deal for at least the flesh colored body suits. This is important because even the work out attire can get pricey for quality fit and material. It's also better than ordering online because you can actually try it on prior to purchase. The staff is friendly and helpful and definitely not pushy, which I like. They have a large selection of cute wrap ballet skirts and sweaters. Check the dance studio you're with- they may have coupons I use that Capezio will honor. read more

We love this shop. The owners have always been super helpful and their staff are dancers also and always nice. Recently the store was purchased by corporate Capezio so now it has the added bonus of being the only official Capezio store in California, and one of only a handful in the U.S. They are always ready with the emergency tights we need, or the replacement ballet slippers and have a great selection of leos. I consider them an essential part of our girls' dance education since there are many times we would have been up a creek without this shop so close!! read more

Amazing place! I took my niece there for her first pointe shoe fitting. Agata was the best I've ever seen! I will be sending all of my students there to her from now on! Not only does she clearly have the knowledge, it is clear she cares about each dancer and takes the time to pass on that knowledge. I love all the items here, especially the glitter body/hair spray and the dancing shoes. The people who work here are very kind and helpful, when ever I do a show I have to stop by there for a new leotard or dance shoes, and they are so helpful and friendly. The shoes are of great quality and the leotards are very comfortable. If your shoe breaks with in 6 months of buying it, they replace it. The leotards will last you a couple of years because they are stretchy. They stock many different colors of leotards so that's perfect!! read more

I've been doing ballet since I was about 4 and I now teach young beginners, so I am MORE than aware that buying dance equipment from a store rather than online is going to be a bit of a mark up, but the ladies here totally understood when I asked for the cheapest brands and very kindly brought me options that were on sale. They asked if I was on their discount email list, gave me a coupon for 10% off, and offered me the 10% teacher's discount. They were so considerate and helpful, a real starving 20-something's dream! Even after I had made all my purchases and left to my car, I remembered I still needed lambswool and ran back in, the owner gave me a bag for free!
