Firstly, our sales representative informed us that we would receive a 30% tax credit on the cost of our solar panels when we filed our taxes. Based on this information, we expected a substantial refund. However, after consulting with our accountant, we learned that the tax credit is based on income and taxes paid, meaning that while we are entitled to the full 30%, it will take several years to receive the full benefit. It would have been helpful if the sales team had explained this more clearly. Additionally, one of the installers mentioned that our solar panels would produce 10% more energy than we consume. Unfortunately, over a year of operation, our energy consumption has consistently exceeded the energy produced by the panels, which is disappointing. That said, SmartRoof's customer service is excellent. Whenever there was an issue with the panels not communicating, they were quick to respond and resolve the problem. In summary, while the installation and service were generally good, better training for their sales representatives would help ensure customers have more realistic expectations and avoid confusion down the line.

In my view, this is an important detail that should have been explained more clearly during the sales and planning process so I could make a fully informed decision. Since raising this issue, I have also been frustrated by the communication. Responses to my emails have taken several days, and the issue still has not been fully resolved. When you are dealing with a major purchase like a solar system, timely communication and clear follow-up really matter. What has been most disappointing is that I still do not feel the standby charge issue has been properly addressed, and I have not seen much willingness to take responsibility for the lack of disclosure upfront. I understand that not every issue is simple to resolve, but I would have appreciated more ownership and a more proactive effort to work toward a fair solution. I believe Green Brilliance has an opportunity to do better by being more transparent about utility-related charges, especially for larger systems, and by improving responsiveness when customers raise concerns after installation. I've been wanting to have a solar installation for a long time, but was intimidated by the…read morecomplexity of the technical details coupled with what I feared would be a huge cash outlay. The Solar Solution team was helpful, knowledgeable, and very pleasant to deal with from start to finish. They explained the technology and the complex permit process, as well as the tax and grant processes. They handled all the paperwork for our DC grant. Between the DC grant and the Federal tax credit 70% of our installation was paid for. Now we're gaining credits instead of monster electric bills during A/C season. We also elected to become "partners" with Pepco and Solar handled all that paperwork too. We get a nice not-so-little check every quarter for the SRECs that our system produces. If you're interested in going Solar, I highly recommend Solar Solution. They make a daunting home improvement a lot easier.
