It's a bit of a downer to rate Capital so low but it's been our experience that last two times we were there in a span of a couple of months. The first time was lunch time during the week for a party of four. It seemed like there was only one lady running the floor and despite not being very busy, it was a loooong lunch. She was apologetic as they were short staffed. The food was fine but service was absent. The second time was a banquet celebration. We had a sectioned off space in the back and the place is literally falling apart. We were warned about the loose/missing tiles on the floor. That experience also took way longer, despite having a preset menu ordered in advance. Again, the place seemed very short staffed and they weren't very busy in the main dining area. I used to come here a few years back and am now very disappointed with the decline in food quality and service. As others have mentioned, no servers will acknowledge you when you enter. There is a sign that says "please wait to be seated" written on the host stand when you enter. You stand there and wait, and no one checks in on you. We ended up walking intthe restaurant to flag a server down to be seated. Mind you, half the restaurant was empty. We were seated and did not receive menus until almost 10 minutes later. Came here a while ago when I was somewhat in the area. Extremely long wait in line for a table and very unorganized. Took a very long time to even receive a menu and ice water. Was eventually able to order some food. The Pork siu mai was delicious and definitely freshly made. Juicy, lots of meaty flavor. Very good. Shrimp Har Gow was good but not as memorable. Those two items are always going to be a dim sum restaurants signature items to let you know how other dim sum items will taste. Sooo, other items, as it seems, turned out to be a hit or miss. Oh well. The "Capital Seafood" restaurant establishment has been around for decades and in various locations. I would go back for the pork siu mai but because the wait was sooo long, service being horrific including wanting to pay the bill to leave and even watching the manager and staff yelling and disrespecting each other all the time (idk if this was really a husband and wife team or what) it wasn't a very pleasant dining experience. Stopped by on a Sunday around 11:30am and it was already busy! It took awhile for us to be seated and we were a little confused because no servers acknowledged us as the line grew longer behind us. I tried to ask one of the works at the cash register and he was pretty rude and said to "wait by the door just like it says on the sign". This was pretty frustrated considering we had been waiting for over 20 minutes and no one has came, and people were asking us if we were next because we were first in line. When seated the servers came pretty quickly and gave us our menu and drinks! We ordered the basic dimsum dishes and a few special order items. The basic dimsum items came out pretty fast and were temperature hot! I realled enjoyed the Shiu Mai but the BBQ pork buns were a little too sticky and on the smaller side. The Lo Mai Gai was good and has a good amount of filling! Other dishes we got included the greens beans which we received cold. The turnip cake was good and had a good crunch! Lastly, the Chinese Donut Cheong Fun was a bit dry and dense. It tasted like the noodles were a bit thick and soggy. Took 2 parties of 2 and seated them. Waiting for at least 10 more minutes before the family in front of us was approached. They were a party of 6. The employee just walked away without saying a word after the family told him that they were 6 people. Finally seated after around half an hour. Now we couldn't get anyone's attention to take our order. Finally flagged down a buss boy who brought us sodas but forgot the waters. My girlfriend was literally waving the dim sum menu around for at least 15 minutes trying to get someone to take our order. She flagged down one server who didn't slow down or stop just walked away muttering something that neither of us could understand. Finally got someone to take our sheet and returned a few minutes later with the order receipt showing only 4 of the 5 items we ordered and including a charge for hot tea which hadn't been provided. She flagged down another buss boy to ask for tea which he brought to the table. Food was delivered quickly and tasted good. The lady who was bringing out the dim sum out and the buss boys were the only moderately attentive employees in the restaurant. When we were ready to pay my girlfriend went to the counter with the receipt and still waited there for the bill to be prepared and to pay for our meal. Honestly I would have left before we were seated. The service was beyond terrible. Having staff scurrying around the dining room but ignoring the customers was shocking. The prices were very high, even for Irvine and the spectrum center, literally about twice as much as the going rate. Again, the food was good and the buss boys and lady who was dropping off the food at the table were good but everyone else provided terrible service. We definitely will not be returning. 2 stars only because the food tasted great with the exception of the calamari which was seriously over cooked and had the texture of an old tire. Christmas eve, definitely understaffed. Took 20 minutes to get seated; no one working the host stand. We were seated next to the kitchen and there was a foul odor coming out -- a strange mixture of bleach and something similar to stinky tofu. There are two guys running around with tablets for ordering. Good luck getting their attention! This seems like an episode of Kitchen Nightmare. We saw an owner(?)/manager(?) yelling to the wait staff "Hey! Hey! Hey! Tea here!", pointing to a table. She didn't seem to know the names of the staff. If you look at your plate and tea cup, you'll find grease marks. 15 minutes after being seated, Tablet Guy finally stopped by. We ordered five plates at 7:11. First dish came out at 7:39. I took a 15 minute excursion to get my car from the Supercharger and when I came back, we had 3 plates arrive, after 54 minutes. Plate 4 arrived after 76 minutes. Plate 5 took 85 minutes. The table next to us waited over 100 minutes for their last plate. There were at least four people working in the kitchen and by the time our last plate arrived, the restaurant was only 20% full. Our dishes arrived in the following order: - Sweet and sour pork ($22.88): someone in our party actively heaved after eating a piece. - House special green beans ($22.88): nothing special. - Pineapple seafood fried rice ($23.88): a little dry and not a single piece of pineapple! - Beef chow fun ($20.88): Tasted good but maybe that's because we waited so long for it! - Hong Kong Pan fried noodle (no price on the menu, but charged as $20.88): The sauce on this plate smelled rancid. It tasted ok, but smelled like trash. I didn't even finish what I put on my plate and noodles are my favorite! We had this removed from our check. Not worth any of the prices! We told the manager that there was no pineapple in the pineapple seafood fried rice and she laughed and walked away. They definitely have pineapple because it was in the sweet and sour pork! Four separate times, waiters stopped by with food that we hadn't ordered -- so disorganized! And disheartening to turn away food after waiting so long! I always grew up going to the Capital Seafood in Garden Grove, and it was nice to check out this other location in Irvine. The decor and ambiance is a lot more elevated compared to the Garden Grove location, and I feel like the food came out quicker too (within 10 minutes of ordering). The service is great with constant check-ins, we were seated and finished eating by the end of the hour! We started off with the Hot and Sour Soup, which was solid and comforting. It had just the right amount of vinegar, making it perfectly sour without being overpowering, a great way to start the meal and a staple Chinese soup, The String Beans are a must-order every time. They're always crisp, well-seasoned, and full of flavor, never soggy nor overdone, which I really appreciate. The House Special Fish Filet is another standout and my all time favorite childhood dish. The seasoning is spot-on with a light, sweet, garlicky soy buttery sauce, and it comes with just the right amount of sauce coating so it's flavorful without being drenched. The texture of the fish is delicate yet holds up well, and each bite had a great crispy outside and soft white filet interior. We also had the Mongolian Beef, which was excellent. It was tender, flavorful, and not chewy at all - a common issue at many places, but not here. Every bite was satisfying and paired well with the sautéed onions it came with. This was my second time at this Capital Seafood location. I usually went to the Garden Grove one growing up, but I think this spot is a bit nicer, especially with the decor and tableware, which is always a plus. Here's what we got w/ white rice: House Special Fish Fillet - This one's a childhood favorite. It's a lightly fried white fish fillet with a buttery, sweet soy glaze and garlic (I think?). It has a bolder flavor, which goes so well with rice. Highly recommend to anyone getting this dish. Sautéed String Beans - They did this dish really well. I'm usually not a fan when places overcook string beans, but these had the perfect crunch and texture. The seasoning was light, with a simple soy sauce base and garlic. Mongolian Beef - Another childhood favorite. The beef was super tender and came with a lot of sautéed onions, which I love. You can never eat enough of carmelized onions ! If you've never had it, it's a sweet-savory beef dish. Probably not for you if you're not into sweetness in your meat. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here! It was my first time trying this place. I made reservations for a Saturday brunch with four friends and one baby. Overall, the dim sum was pretty good, and the other dishes like the walnut shrimp, green beans, and fried calamari were great. However, the Hong Kong-style chow fun was not good -- it had too much cornstarch slurry, and the beef quality wasn't great. I understand that can happen with chow fun sometimes, but overall it wasn't a great dish. We also wanted to try the half duck. Unfortunately, it came out after we had already finished most of our food. When it arrived, the presentation was not great and definitely not what you'd expect from Peking duck. It looked like poorly executed carving and deboning -- more like scraps of duck with only two pieces of skin. It definitely didn't look like a $30 plate of duck, and we know duck. We explained to two different waiters that the dish looked off to us and that we didn't like it. There was some back and forth trying to explain, and eventually the manager came over to sort things out (my Mandarin might not have been coming across clearly). After some difficulty, she took the dish away and removed it from our bill. When the bill arrived, they had also automatically charged gratuity, which I thought was supposed to be for parties of six or more. At that point we were a bit over it and were planning to tip anyway, so we didn't bring it up. Overall, this would have been a much better experience if the issue with the duck had been handled more smoothly. I'll probably come back because there honestly aren't that many dim sum spots in OC, and the food overall tasted pretty good. The service itself was okay -- we just had to ask a few times for tea and water refills. It was more the way the complaint was handled that made the experience less enjoyable. That said, a lot of old-school Chinese restaurants can be like this. If you're used to that style of service, I'd still say give this place a try. My mom planned my dad's 80th birthday dinner months in advance, and what should have been a special night turned into a complete disaster. Reservations were made in January for 2/26, with multiple calls to Nancy to confirm the order. She lost the order twice. We had two tables of nine and were first nearly seated in a private room already reserved for a wedding, before being pushed into a dirty back area with overflowing trash cans, dirty tablecloths on the floor, carts nearby, and sticky floors. My mom and family had to move garbage and service carts themselves so guests wouldn't be sitting next to filth. Food was brought out before guests arrived and before the reservation time, taken back, and later returned cold. One table received food while the other waited. By the time one table was nearly done, the other had barely been served. Total chaos. Instead of enjoying his milestone birthday, my dad spent the evening helping manage missing dishes. It was embarrassing, frustrating, and a complete waste of money. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and unprepared, and Nancy had no system to handle the night that had three large parties. Not one person in our party of 18 would ever return. CTA: Capital Seafood should take accountability and offer compensation or a refund for completely ruining an 80th birthday celebration. This was legitimately one of the worst dining experience our family has had at an Asian restaurant. We understand that when it's a busy, packed service, orders may get forgotten or a little bit longer to complete. However, we went on an early Sunday evening at 5:30 pm time frame. The restaurant was practically EMPTY. TWO of our main dishes never got served because the chefs were very audibly arguing in the kitchen and never completed the dish. When we asked if a dish could be non-spicy, instead of simply informing us it cannot be served as such, we were told it was sold-out only to find out later that it was available all along. Food quality was abysmal and portions were small. This is such a shame considering we held my niece's 1 year birthday party at this very same location just 7 months ago and we all enjoyed the food. If there's been an ownership or managerial change, then SHAME on their lack of attentiveness and care. A food restaurant thrives from the top down and evidently, a break down has happened somewhere down the chain. There's clearly some level of neglect happening that caused the chefs to break out in a full argument (to the point where they didn't even cook the ordered dishes), to waiters taking eons to follow-up, and the floors and bathrooms appearing in grimy disarray. High End Chinese Dimsum and seafood bar restaurant located within the Irvine Spectrum Shopping Center. We walked in for a late lunch and got seated right away. We ordered our favorite dimsum : shrimp & pork shumai, spicy beef tendon, chicken feet, Chinese broccoli, all tasted real Chinese style the only problem is the spicy beef tendon did not have much tendon and only slices were of beef. They also have a membership program where in you get 5% off from your complete order you just need to become a member and they scan your barcode to get the cash back. Unfortunately based on the receipt I got there was no 5% cash received from the total of my order. Maybe when we come back I will ask the manager about it. This place has gone to absolute trash. I've been coming here for years and it was always solid before (sure, always a little on the pricey side, but food and service good and worth it being at the Spectrum). I have never, ever had an experience this bad at any restaurant in my life. Confusing, frustrating, rude, abysmal service. We sat there for 25 minutes without any waiter coming by. Finally, we started asking a few people carrying plates if we could put a food order in. They were dismissive, and the vibe was "That's not my job", and fine, but I have no idea who our waiter actually is and maybe you could flag that someone for us? We were pointed to a woman who was at the front working as a hostess. We got her attention when she walked by us, and she literally waved us off with zero eye contact. It kind of shocked me how openly dismissive it was. I finally had to get up and walk over to the to-go counter, and saw a few other people doing the same thing. It was still another 10-15 minutes until that person came over, and he was still clearly not our waiter. There was another table that was seated after us, and they had a waiter, so, it just seemed like a luck of the draw kind of thing. When the food came out, I distinctly remember the server angrily flinging the plates across the table - like throwing the plates down spitefully. If she could have smacked us in the face with one of them, she would have happily done so. It was truly bizarre. But what was almost worse was when our Chinese broccoli came out, it was literally placed on top of another dirty plate. I've attached a picture. Nobody cleared any dirty plates (which we had placed at the edge of the table). We weren't asked to shuffle some things around to make room. The broccoli was brought out - cold - at the end of the meal, and then placed askew on top of another dirty dish. The food itself was fine. I didn't notice any rotten food issues that other reviewers pointed out. I will say, the tea itself tasted bad and I have no idea how that is possible (it wasn't even pu-erh, which I actually prefer with dimsum), and nobody refilled it, so it was lukewarm for most of the meal. They completely forgot our one noodle dish. I have never in my life tipped 0%, like literally never. I have always tipped a little something out of guilt. My rating is solely based on service. My mom and I decided to order takeout since we were at the Irvine Spectrum. Upon entering the restaurant (which was mostly empty and had multiple tables in front covered in dirty dishes), it was unclear where to order. The host stand was empty and remained empty. I'm not sure why it's even there. We figured out there was staff around the corner, behind a wall. They could not care less if anyone entered the restaurant. We ordered takeout and took a seat in the front of the restaurant. Quite a bit of time passed by and I was getting VERY hungry. I made a comment to my mom that it had been a long time and I wondered what was taking so long, and what would have happened if we would have eaten in. My mom went to the counter to ask about our order. The woman who took our order was still there. Her response? "I have no idea!!!" We were literally the only takeout order. There were also less than 10 people dining there. Again, my mom asked and this woman could not remember helping us. She acted like she had never seen us before. Thankfully my mom had gotten a paper receipt, which she showed this staff member. My mom mentioned the long wait and her concern about the order perhaps being forgotten. The order was not forgotten. The finished order had been sitting on a table by the kitchen. One of the cooks pointed this out after he came out front. He asked the woman if she had checked near the kitchen; she hadn't. She then proceeded to blame US for "not talking to her sooner." She did not apologize, and continued to make condescending comments with a big smile on her face. This was some of the worst service I've ever encountered, and I will not be returning to this location. read more

Came alone craving dim sum while at the spectrum and this place really hit the spot. Everything I ordered came out very timely and everything tasted good. I wasn't impressed by the shrimp shu mai, that being my favorite when ever I go to dim sum, but everything else was great! I'd come again some time. read more

Our group of 12 came here for dinner tonight. The restaurant wasn't super busy but they did have some diners at the time we were there, We had two different soups first: Thai soup with seafood and tofu with seafood soup. The Thai seafood soup was good but it was luke warm and not hot. It would probably taste better if it was hotter (both temperature and spiciness level). We also had a whole bunch of other dishes. My cousin ordered for the table so I'm not sure of exact name for each dish. I liked the scallops. My favorite! Very good and perfectly seasoned. My husband loved the shaken beef. That is always his favorite every time we dine at Asian restaurants. :) Sautéed green beans were also good. The spinach or some sort of greens stir-fried with crab meat was very good. Xao long bao. Just okay. I've had it better at other restaurants. We ordered the crab fried rice but didn't see ANY crab at all. Not sure if they misheard the order. That fried rice was below average. There was literally no meat at all and only few peas & carrots. Tasted like fried rice at some fast food restaurants. The charsu pork/chicken/duck platter was meh. Too much fat. Peking duck was also very fatty and the skin was not crispy. Photo didn't upload correctly. Steamed chicken was cold chicken and with skin on so I didn't eat it. I think the forgot our sea cucumber dish because we waited forever and that never came out. When we finally found a waiter & flagged him down, he brought it out not too long after. That was good. Food was good overall. Definitely some room for improvement on some dishes though. read more

We came here for dim sum with my mom and brother. The restaurant was not busy at all--only about two other parties were dining--and we were seated right away, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. After being seated, we waited about 30 minutes without anyone coming to take our order. No check-in, no explanation. We eventually had to flag someone down ourselves just to order. When we finally did, the server told us that some dim sum items might not be available because the dim sum period was basically over. To avoid wasting time, we asked if we could point to items on the menu and confirm which ones were actually available before deciding whether to stay or leave. She said yes and confirmed that the items we pointed to were available, then took our order. Some time later, we received one dish (the duck). After that, the same server came back and told us that three of the items she had already confirmed were actually not available. This was extremely frustrating, especially since we had explicitly asked her to verify availability beforehand. At that point, we asked to cancel the remaining items and just pay for the one dish we received. She argued that the orders were already put in and being cooked, but when we initially asked to cancel, she simply walked away without attempting to do so. We had to go up to her again and explain our reasoning. We also told her that items should be properly confirmed before telling customers they're available. In the end, we paid for the single dish and left. We spent nearly an hour sitting there, time that could've been spent eating elsewhere if we had been given accurate information from the start. Poor communication, wasted time, and an overall disappointing experience. We won't be coming back. This restaurant doesn't even deserve a 1 star. read more

Food is good, some of the dishes doesn't have much flavor in it... the bbq pork & duck are a little bit tough the fried rice seafood doesn't have much seafood on it... my favorite was the sautéed spinach garlic, pork shu mai and the fish fillet! They don't have chicken feet all the time so you have to ask and request it... the service was good although I feel that sometimes you have to be the one adjusting to their moods lol and the ambiance is fine it was a little bit loud but it is okay since it is very family style and casual!
