This place was AMAZING!!! My friend and I happened to go at the tail end of dim sum/ lunch hour, so we didn't have many dim sum options to choose from. However, the staff was kind enough to still offer what they could. We also got the dry beef chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, and beef and mushrooms. And let me say that I've been missing comfort Chinese food, and this place over achieved. The staff were very kind and helpful and the place was very clean. Came on a Saturday at 11:30 and there were plenty of tables! They don't do the traditional dim sum carts, but overall pretty happy with the dim sum. It wasn't anything special, and dim sum is getting more expensive these days, but it was all pretty standard! Just a warning all dim sum places make you pay for tea per person now, so I'd recommend not requesting hot tea. My favorite dishes were the pork and shrimp shiu mai, the shrimp rice rolls, and the sticky rice. I wouldn't recommend the baked pork buns- it has a really sweet flavor to it. A few dishes were slightly saltier than I prefer, but the Peking duck and Braised Beef Stew Clay Pot were easily the highlights of the meal. Both were incredibly flavorful, and the meat was fall-apart tender. The service, however, felt a bit disorganized throughout the evening. This was pretty frustrated considering we had been waiting for over 20 minutes and no one has came, and people were asking us if we were next because we were first in line. When seated the servers came pretty quickly and gave us our menu and drinks! We ordered the basic dimsum dishes and a few special order items. The basic dimsum items came out pretty fast and were temperature hot! I realled enjoyed the Shiu Mai but the BBQ pork buns were a little too sticky and on the smaller side. The Lo Mai Gai was good and has a good amount of filling! Other dishes we got included the greens beans which we received cold. The turnip cake was good and had a good crunch! Lastly, the Chinese Donut Cheong Fun was a bit dry and dense. It tasted like the noodles were a bit thick and soggy. The employee just walked away without saying a word after the family told him that they were 6 people. Finally seated after around half an hour. Now we couldn't get anyone's attention to take our order. Finally flagged down a buss boy who brought us sodas but forgot the waters. My girlfriend was literally waving the dim sum menu around for at least 15 minutes trying to get someone to take our order. She flagged down one server who didn't slow down or stop just walked away muttering something that neither of us could understand. Finally got someone to take our sheet and returned a few minutes later with the order receipt showing only 4 of the 5 items we ordered and including a charge for hot tea which hadn't been provided. She flagged down another buss boy to ask for tea which he brought to the table. Food was delivered quickly and tasted good. The lady who was bringing out the dim sum out and the buss boys were the only moderately attentive employees in the restaurant. When we were ready to pay my girlfriend went to the counter with the receipt and still waited there for the bill to be prepared and to pay for our meal. Honestly I would have left before we were seated. The service was beyond terrible. Having staff scurrying around the dining room but ignoring the customers was shocking. The prices were very high, even for Irvine and the spectrum center, literally about twice as much as the going rate. Again, the food was good and the buss boys and lady who was dropping off the food at the table were good but everyone else provided terrible service. We definitely will not be returning. 2 stars only because the food tasted great with the exception of the calamari which was seriously over cooked and had the texture of an old tire. Christmas eve, definitely understaffed. Took 20 minutes to get seated; no one working the host stand. We were seated next to the kitchen and there was a foul odor coming out -- a strange mixture of bleach and something similar to stinky tofu. There are two guys running around with tablets for ordering. Good luck getting their attention! This seems like an episode of Kitchen Nightmare. We saw an owner(?)/manager(?) yelling to the wait staff "Hey! Hey! Hey! Tea here!", pointing to a table. She didn't seem to know the names of the staff. If you look at your plate and tea cup, you'll find grease marks. 15 minutes after being seated, Tablet Guy finally stopped by. We ordered five plates at 7:11. First dish came out at 7:39. I took a 15 minute excursion to get my car from the Supercharger and when I came back, we had 3 plates arrive, after 54 minutes. Plate 4 arrived after 76 minutes. Plate 5 took 85 minutes. The table next to us waited over 100 minutes for their last plate. There were at least four people working in the kitchen and by the time our last plate arrived, the restaurant was only 20% full. Our dishes arrived in the following order: - Sweet and sour pork ($22.88): someone in our party actively heaved after eating a piece. - House special green beans ($22.88): nothing special. - Pineapple seafood fried rice ($23.88): a little dry and not a single piece of pineapple! - Beef chow fun ($20.88): Tasted good but maybe that's because we waited so long for it! - Hong Kong Pan fried noodle (no price on the menu, but charged as $20.88): The sauce on this plate smelled rancid. It tasted ok, but smelled like trash. I didn't even finish what I put on my plate and noodles are my favorite! We had this removed from our check. Not worth any of the prices! We told the manager that there was no pineapple in the pineapple seafood fried rice and she laughed and walked away. They definitely have pineapple because it was in the sweet and sour pork! Four separate times, waiters stopped by with food that we hadn't ordered -- so disorganized! And disheartening to turn away food after waiting so long! The restroom has a urinal covered in a trash bag; not inspiring confidence. At least I saw the waiter thoroughly wash his hands after leaving the facilities. It was raining and they use (now muddy) white tablecloths to dry the walkways. Not appetizing to look at! I usually have very low expectations of Chinese restaurant service and cleanliness, but this ranks all-time low. I actively felt sick before I left the restaurant. The first time was lunch time during the week for a party of four. It seemed like there was only one lady running the floor and despite not being very busy, it was a loooong lunch. She was apologetic as they were short staffed. The food was fine but service was absent. The second time was a banquet celebration. We had a sectioned off space in the back and the place is literally falling apart. We were warned about the loose/missing tiles on the floor. I booked a private room months in advance and reconfirmed a few days before our anniversary dinner. When we arrived, we were told the private room had been overlooked and staff had to set it up quickly. It felt a bit unprepared for a planned dinner with 12 guests. We ordered the Golden Banquet ($588). The food was okay but not as flavorful as we're used to, and the lobster portions felt light for the price. A couple of dishes did stand out in a good way, especially the honey walnut shrimp and the house special lobster. The main issue was the billing. An 18% mandatory gratuity was already included, but we were told we needed to tip extra because we were "VIP." This wasn't explained clearly, and we ended up tipping much more than expected. Just a note for future guests: the 18% gratuity is already included. Update: The next day, I spoke with management. The manager was kind and refunded the extra gratuity of $206.77. I always grew up going to the Capital Seafood in Garden Grove, and it was nice to check out this other location in Irvine. The decor and ambiance is a lot more elevated compared to the Garden Grove location, and I feel like the food came out quicker too (within 10 minutes of ordering). The service is great with constant check-ins, we were seated and finished eating by the end of the hour! We started off with the Hot and Sour Soup, which was solid and comforting. It had just the right amount of vinegar, making it perfectly sour without being overpowering, a great way to start the meal and a staple Chinese soup, The String Beans are a must-order every time. They're always crisp, well-seasoned, and full of flavor, never soggy nor overdone, which I really appreciate. The House Special Fish Filet is another standout and my all time favorite childhood dish. The seasoning is spot-on with a light, sweet, garlicky soy buttery sauce, and it comes with just the right amount of sauce coating so it's flavorful without being drenched. The texture of the fish is delicate yet holds up well, and each bite had a great crispy outside and soft white filet interior. We also had the Mongolian Beef, which was excellent. It was tender, flavorful, and not chewy at all - a common issue at many places, but not here. Every bite was satisfying and paired well with the sautéed onions it came with. I usually went to the Garden Grove one growing up, but I think this spot is a bit nicer, especially with the decor and tableware, which is always a plus. Here's what we got w/ white rice: House Special Fish Fillet - This one's a childhood favorite. It's a lightly fried white fish fillet with a buttery, sweet soy glaze and garlic (I think?). It has a bolder flavor, which goes so well with rice. Highly recommend to anyone getting this dish. Sautéed String Beans - They did this dish really well. I'm usually not a fan when places overcook string beans, but these had the perfect crunch and texture. The seasoning was light, with a simple soy sauce base and garlic. Mongolian Beef - Another childhood favorite. The beef was super tender and came with a lot of sautéed onions, which I love. You can never eat enough of carmelized onions ! If you've never had it, it's a sweet-savory beef dish. Probably not for you if you're not into sweetness in your meat. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here! Got seated and restaurant had only 4-5 tables, we were given a menu/ slash order form. We placed our order, finally got some hot tea and water. I used to come here all the time- it was one of our go tos! I haven't been here for a while, and I have no idea what happened. It has gone completely down hill, and it really makes me sad. I came in with a group of 6. It was only our table and 1 other (group of 4). Those two items are always going to be a dim sum restaurants signature items to let you know how other dim sum items will taste. Sooo, other items, as it seems, turned out to be a hit or miss. Oh well. The "Capital Seafood" restaurant establishment has been around for decades and in various locations. We ordered our favorite dimsum : shrimp & pork shumai, spicy beef tendon, chicken feet, Chinese broccoli, all tasted real Chinese style the only problem is the spicy beef tendon did not have much tendon and only slices were of beef. They also have a membership program where in you get 5% off from your complete order you just need to become a member and they scan your barcode to get the cash back. Unfortunately based on the receipt I got there was no 5% cash received from the total of my order. Maybe when we come back I will ask the manager about it. It was my first time trying this place. I made reservations for a Saturday brunch with four friends and one baby. Overall, the dim sum was pretty good, and the other dishes like the walnut shrimp, green beans, and fried calamari were great. However, the Hong Kong-style chow fun was not good -- it had too much cornstarch slurry, and the beef quality wasn't great. I understand that can happen with chow fun sometimes, but overall it wasn't a great dish. We also wanted to try the half duck. Unfortunately, it came out after we had already finished most of our food. When it arrived, the presentation was not great and definitely not what you'd expect from Peking duck. It looked like poorly executed carving and deboning -- more like scraps of duck with only two pieces of skin. It definitely didn't look like a $30 plate of duck, and we know duck. We explained to two different waiters that the dish looked off to us and that we didn't like it. There was some back and forth trying to explain, and eventually the manager came over to sort things out (my Mandarin might not have been coming across clearly). After some difficulty, she took the dish away and removed it from our bill. When the bill arrived, they had also automatically charged gratuity, which I thought was supposed to be for parties of six or more. At that point we were a bit over it and were planning to tip anyway, so we didn't bring it up. Overall, this would have been a much better experience if the issue with the duck had been handled more smoothly. I'll probably come back because there honestly aren't that many dim sum spots in OC, and the food overall tasted pretty good. The service itself was okay -- we just had to ask a few times for tea and water refills. It was more the way the complaint was handled that made the experience less enjoyable. That said, a lot of old-school Chinese restaurants can be like this. If you're used to that style of service, I'd still say give this place a try. For the price they charge you would expect a bit better. I'll likely be back, just not anytime soon. read more

This review is for Irvine Spectrum Location: My husband and I ordered Mapo Tofu and Ginger &Scallion Fish Fillet. It was the worst experience I had. I have known this place for many years but I hadn't returned for some time. The menu is the same but the chefs have changed. The Mapo Tofu didn't have the same sauce they had (it's darker and not as flavorful) and the fish just came steamed with tiny bit of chopped scallions - nothing like the picture on the menu and definitely nothing like what I was served in the past. The restaurant was dead with two other customers. When I asked for the sauce for the fish (the picture comes with a sauce), the server of two days pointed at the soy sauce. I told him that's not the sauce that comes with the menu. He went to the back and brought me a small dish of soy sauce saying the kitchen made it for me (a lie). I asked another server who didn't speak any English, if I can please have the sauce, they poured greasy salty soy sauce over the dish and brought it back, when I asked for the manager, they said she went home early. The manager came out of the kitchen and we complained. We told her we will just pay for Mapo Tofu. She spoke to the server in Chinese that the sauce that they were supposed to serve was there sitting on the counter by the kitchen. She then opened the menu where there is a tiny print: "All pictures are for reference only". And told me the fish does not come with a sauce. I pointed it out, the food is different. She then replied, "Maybe the cooks changed!" I don't think we have ever been to a restaurant bad as this. It used to be full of customers with good food. When we finally ordered, they brought one main dish and didnt come back for another 20 minutes. And just left us without plates, utensils. We asked the server for plates. And he came back with our bill instead. We had to ask for plates and when we said we never had plates on our table, the lady serving us said "how come?". When they finally gave us plates for our party, they were all wet that we had to wipe them ourselves. We ordered whole chicken and gave us half a chicken. We celebrated a special birthday last night and although the restaurant manager was gracious and did much to add to the celebration the overall experience was bad. First of all we ordered appetizers main entrees etc. it all came out at once. The soup never arrived and many other dishes were missing. I used to come here a few years back and am now very disappointed with the decline in food quality and service. As others have mentioned, no servers will acknowledge you when you enter. There is a sign that says "please wait to be seated" written on the host stand when you enter. You stand there and wait, and no one checks in on you. We ended up walking intthe restaurant to flag a server down to be seated. Mind you, half the restaurant was empty. We were seated and did not receive menus until almost 10 minutes later. Food was 2/5. Prices are now about $7 for a tin of dim sum items. Hardly worth the price. Sadly, we will not be returning anymore. read more

My mom planned my dad's 80th birthday dinner months in advance, and what should have been a special night turned into a complete disaster. Reservations were made in January for 2/26, with multiple calls to Nancy to confirm the order. She lost the order twice. We had two tables of nine and were first nearly seated in a private room already reserved for a wedding, before being pushed into a dirty back area with overflowing trash cans, dirty tablecloths on the floor, carts nearby, and sticky floors. My mom and family had to move garbage and service carts themselves so guests wouldn't be sitting next to filth. Food was brought out before guests arrived and before the reservation time, taken back, and later returned cold. One table received food while the other waited. By the time one table was nearly done, the other had barely been served. Total chaos. Instead of enjoying his milestone birthday, my dad spent the evening helping manage missing dishes. It was embarrassing, frustrating, and a complete waste of money. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and unprepared, and Nancy had no system to handle the night that had three large parties. Not one person in our party of 18 would ever return. CTA: Capital Seafood should take accountability and offer compensation or a refund for completely ruining an 80th birthday celebration. What shame that capital seafood has fallen! The food still taste amazing but the service is lacking. Chinese food is one of those foods where variety of options is important to the experience. Our orders comes one at a time - 5 to 10 minutes in between dishes. Appetizer coms third. Main dish comes first. One dish doesn't come at all. Worst experience ever! Made reservations for Mother's Day. When we got there they looked at us like we had a third eye when we told them we had a reservation. After we were seated we waited 40 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Rhe customer service was atrocious. Everyone acted as if they didn't want to be there and were upset they had to work. After ordering the food took another 20 minutes to come out. The v food was good. Not great. But kinda average for dim sum. But then after finishing, we waited another 30 minutes for the check! You would think they'd want us to pay but it was almost as if they let us pay, then they would have to clean the table and have to serve more customers but why do that and have to work?
