I absolutely adore JA Jiaozi, and it remains one of my absolute favorite restaurants to return to even after they redid their menu and raised their prices. The cost adjustment hasn't changed a thing about how much I love coming here, because the quality of the food consistently speaks for itself. Their namesake dumplings are always fantastic, boasting perfectly thin wrappers and incredibly flavorful fillings that never disappoint. The rest of the menu is packed with standout dishes that keep me hooked. I always look forward to the cold tofu skin salad, which provides a wonderfully refreshing and textured start to the meal. Their XO green beans are easily the best green beans in the game--snappy, deeply savory, and packed with that rich, umami punch. To top it all off, the tender braised beef with quail eggs is completely delectable, especially when paired with a fresh bowl of white rice to soak up all of that rich, savory sauce. The restaurant looks brand new, very clean, and quite upscale with a modern vibe. The staff were okay nothing to complain about, service was polite and fairly efficient. As for the food, overall it was pretty solid. Most of the dim sum dishes were enjoyable, well-made, and reasonably priced. The only downside was the famous sour soup. This was actually my first time trying it here, and the sourness was surprisingly intense much stronger and quite different from what I've had at other places. It was a bit too sour for my taste, and I couldn't really finish it. Overall, a good experience. I would definitely come back again, just probably skip the soup next time. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant. They serve excellent Chinese food. Their menu is complete and the choices are all excellent. It is sad they went away from their lunch specials which we enjoyed a lot. I went here with my nephew, sister, and brother. They have a live grilling station and the employees are so sweet, they made sure to interact with my nephew and had fun with him through the window. It came with - Green: Veggie with Spinach Jiaozi Skin - Yellow: Chicken with Pumpkin Jiaozi Skin - Black: Angus Beef with Cuttlefish Sauce Jiaozi Skin - Red: Pork with Red Cabbage Jiaozi Skin - White: Scallop & Shrimp with Regular Jiaozi Skin I would rank them in that order from Worst to Best. These are definitely better than any frozen aisle dumpling, but the flavors weren't the freshest, and the sauces didn't add much but heaviness to these. For the BOGO deal, I want to give it a 4 star for value, but taste is still 3. Didn't eat in, which could be affecting the rating, but also I can't then speak to service or ambiance. Would order the BOGO deal again, but not sure I agree that these come close to Din Tai Fung. Definitely on par with Paradise Dynasty though. read more

First the place is beautiful and the window with the dumpling cooks is awesome. We had Chris as our waiter and he was so polite and helpful. I got on the waitlist on the Yelp app which I'm glad I did because when I showed up, they were asking all the walk in people to use the waitlist. Since I was on the waitlist already, we didn't have to wait long to get seated. The decor is modern and I like how they used dumplings as part of their wall decoration. We really liked the xlb, it was big, juicy and flavorful! I only wish it came in a basket of more than 5 xlb at a time. The panfried kurobota pork and celery dumplings came out with a perfect layer of crispy skin. It was very tasty. We tried the speciality Flaming Hot Jiaozi which I thought was just ok. It had heat but didnt have much other flavor. Roasted Bone Marrow and Bun had good texture but could use a bit more seasoning maybe more salt and pepper. I was so excited to try this place after getting tired of waiting in the Din Tai Fung line at South Coast Plaza Mall and I have to say that it is pretty great all around! TLDR I still think Din Tai Fung tastes better but there are a few considerations that may make me want to come to JA Jiaozi instead (think way shorter wait and plenty of parking!) Came here last night for take out on the way to my friend's. This being my first time here, it took me a few minutes to decide what would satisfy me and my partner's light dinner dumpling cravings. I also soaked in the clean, hippy interiors with the huge glass wall dividing the kitchen from the dining area - giving diners full view of the dumpling creation process. The colorful steamed Jiaozi Combo caught my attention and added the Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao. My To Go order included napkins but no chopsticks, but luckily my friend keeps a stash in her kitchen. Two sauces: one chili for the bao and one soy for the dumplings in small containers was just right amount and pairs perfectly with its respective fare. After we consumed our authentic Jiaozi and Xiao long bao, we both agreed to go back there next time and eat a proper meal - lunch or dinner. Constructive comment: Add a bigger size trash can in the restroom so the paper towels don't overflow from the dispenser catch and people don't just drop it on the floor. The servings are good for two, quite small in quantity, 3 might be pushing it a bit so you would end up ordering more (small) dishes. It's flavorful especially the chicken chow mein. Most dishes are marked as spicy so be mindful of that if you don't like hot, spicy food. Ambience is giving Chinese restaurant feels but of a modern set up. Immensely enjoyed lunch here today! I joined my friend for a food collab she was doing but I will honestly say their food quality surpassed Din Tai for me personally. I have been trying different restaurants the last few years to avoid going back to Din Tai (we hate the wait) and this place did the trick. Service was friendly, interior was done beautifully and I enjoy watching the chefs making dumplings in the open concept kitchen. I loved their short rib, lobster XLB, and pan fried shrimp jiaozi. I have been sleeping on JA Jiaozi. I feel like I bookmarked this ages ago but a girls night finally pushed me to actually make it here. We arrived and used Yelp Waitlist to check in but honestly we only waited a few minutes before we were seated. There are so many options here! We had a vegetarian in our group too and I was impressed with how many yummy veggie options there were, not just one basic veggie dumpling. I also loved how aesthetic everything was. OMG, love. We went here for my birthday. They were so kind to even bring dessert ! If you're a fan of dumplings like the very well known one (you know which place I mean), then look no further than giving this place a try. Each one was tender, flavourful, a delicate flavour explosion in the mouth. Unlike a sampler I've had before, I can tell you that ALL of them were fantastic. You can't go wrong with the pork xiao long bao. A hot burst of liquid, almost too painfully hot to eat when they come out, but you just can't resist. Service is great too. We wanted to give this place a try since we found out that this is a sister place to Bistro Na. Originally, we wanted to come here for an early dinner but there was an hour wait so we decided to come back for lunch instead. There were people waiting for them to open but we got seated immediately. Better to come here for lunch than dinner! The restaurant is beautiful, with plush booth seats everywhere. A long continuous booth runs along the back wall, which has dumplings arranged in a large intricate pattern. Two long booths run down the middle of the restaurant with another booth nearby and by the entrance. The middle booths have a tall wooden cubby-like shelf that holds white vases with flowers and behind this are round tables that seat up to 8 guests. Birdcage-style pendant lights dangle above the round tables and the kitchen can be seen next to the area as well. This place was immaculate and great to look at. We ordered the following: 18- Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao (5 pieces)- this was ok and tasted like any other dumpling chain restaurant. Hubs said that he couldn't taste the difference with this place and the others. I thought this was ok because the xlb didn't break when we picked it up from the steamer. Daughter thought it was tasty but she agreed with Hubs in that it was ok. 13- Steamed Jiaozi Combo, which came in 5 colors. The colors were yellow for chicken with pumpkin; white for scallop and shrimp; black for beef with cuttlefish sauce; green for veggie with spinach and red for pork with red cabbage. The multi-colored dumplings were nice but we couldn't taste the difference. They all tasted the same. 8- Pan Fried Scallop and Shrimp, which has scallop, shrimp, chives, shrimp paste and sesame oil. This was disappointing. Hubs didn't care for it. He said that It looked like something that he created whenever he broke a dumpling upon pan frying. But parking was great as they are in a large complex with many restaurants so lots of free parking - and they are right next to the 5 Fwy. Angus Beef Dumplings 3/5: The beef was a bit tough and kinda tasted like a hamburger patty in a dumpling wrap Chicken mushroom dumplings 5/5: This was the best of the dumplings we ordered. It was super umami and delicious The xlb (i think the signature?) 4/5: Pretty standard Mapo tofu 3/5: The tofu was seasoned purely with the chili oil. Besides the taste of the chili oil, it had no flavor. Plum braised pork belly 5/5: I gave it mor points for being unique and having pickled plums. The flavor was good but the meat could be a little softer. Chili tofu skin salad 5/5: You cant really go wrong with this. Overall, the portions are a bit small. My family eats less so it was enough for us but probably wont be enough for others. I think if I waited 1-1.5hrs to eat this, it would have been more like a 3 star review but since I didn't have to wait its more of a 3.5 star.
