Capital Tea coming in for the big Win! My friends and I have been trying out various afternoon teas in the Denver area and this is one of the favorites so far. It's not a huge spot, so I would definitely recommend a reservation and note they are very strict on the 90-minute limit - at least on weekends for their afternoon tea time. Decor is cute though and they've got a number of tea related items for purchase. Tea selection is fantastic and they do a great job describing them on the menu; the staff is also more than willing to help you out. I love the little touch of writing what tea is in each pot. You are allowed unlimited teas within the window, which isn't a thing everywhere (though it should be in my opinion). The food you get is also amazing. A variety of savory pastries, sweet treats and yummy sandwiches. We all left feeling Uber satiated and maybe a little tea drunk . I can't wait to come back!! read more

Capital Tea is a nice laid back place that offered quite a variety of different teas. So many wonderful flavors/combinations that change based on the season. They are very creative with their flavors, and everything I tried was so unique and delicious. You can purchase their teas, and I think they make such a good present to anyone, which is always a nice option with the holidays coming up. I tried their afternoon tea, and all the food was quite good as well. Nothing I will crave again but I did enjoy variety of traditional afternoon tea snacks. The service was the best! My girls took me to Capital Tea for high tea for my birthday and Mother's Day. Parking was a little challenging so we had to park around the block on a residential street. Upon entering the tea room we were in the middle of the crowded seating area. The room is relatively small and there's not much room between tables. We were pointed to our table and sat down and waited. Because the room was full, service was very slow - but friendly. It took over 15 minutes to get our 1st tea pots and much longer to get our scones. The tea was very good but as the afternoon wore on the tea was steeped less and less and was very weak. All of the food items were very good and the variety was perfect. About an hour after we received our 1st round of tea we were told that it was last call for our "unlimited" tea. We had only had our main food tower for about 20 minutes and were actively still eating. But apparently they go by the time of your reservation - slow service notwithstanding. That was a little off putting but because of how nice the 2 servers were, we didn't say anything. The staff really was working hard - they just couldn't keep up with the crowd. I popped in here right before a nail appt. I needed a bite to eat and some caffeine and saw this place as trekking in January snow far was not in the cards lol. Soo...first off, such a cute aesthetic inside. Had a vintage tea house vibes. I ended up needing something quick so I went for a Chai tea latte and a blt sandwich. The latte was pretty good but for sure reason the addition of the syrup added sweetness. But who cares! It was good and warming on a cold day. I liked it. The blt was great for a morning bite. I have been here many times for high tea over the years and it is always a delight. The teas are delicious, you can drink multiple pots, and they have delicious selections. The staff are always attentive and knowledgeable. Also the shop is adorable and don't we all need an excuse to wear one of your five hand knitting shawls?!? (Okay maybe just me but fun all the same ) They have been able to do gf and vegetarian tea towers for me the last two times I have gone and I am so happy they offer this. A little corn and cheese pupusa, their stuffing cups, and the little treats are always a highlight. The gf bread they use for their sandwiches is quite dry and crummy unfortunately. Although fairly normal for gf bread I think the gf sandwiches would be improved by toasting the bread, putting on extra cream cheese spread, or switching to a different bread brand. read more

Such a cozy little store down on S Broadway amongst all the antique/vintage shops. We had a great experience with Capital Tea from making reservation all the way to leaving with some teas to go. Booked this place a few weeks ago for a friend's milestone birthday with our families. Suzanne(Susana? sorry for forgetting the name) took really good care of us and was super thorough in helping us with the dishes and picking out the teas. The snacks were delicious, the scones were well made, small but moist/tender. Sandwiches were delicious and love the fruit skewer. The 1 recommendation is to have a list of what the teas are on a menu or a larger book as they have so many selections! Had a really nice morning here with some friends. We made a reservation for high tea, dressed up, and sampled lots of tea! Definitely make a reservation because this place is pretty small. For $45 you can try as many teas as you want (the benefit of going with a group is you can try everyone else's too and get several rounds!) and they serve them in cute mismatched tea pots that you flip the lid on when you're ready to try a different tea. The scones with jam and clotted cream were delicious. The food on the tiered tray stands was just okay- my friend mentioned she was vegetarian and asked if there was meat in any of the food and was told just the chicken salad sandwich. Turns out, the mini quiche had ham in it too which she only discovered after taking a bite. The food wasn't really enough for lunch- one spanokopita, one quiche, a few small cucumber and chicken salad sandwiches, a skewer of berries, a sliver of partially frozen cake, and a ginger snap / per person. I would say this was a snack more than a meal. The standout part of the experience was definitely the myriads of tea. Our server was an expert in teas and made great suggestions and guided us well. Staff was super-friendly, so knowledgeable about the different varieties of teas and gave us great recommendations. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time because they fill up quickly. This place is so cute! My husband and I were visiting Denver for our wedding anniversary. I'm originally from England and it's not always easy to find a good tea shop but this place was great. I saw the Brown palace had afternoon tea but was disappointed we couldn't get a reservation there. So my hubby searched and found this place and it was perfect. Took another friend here for her birthday to treat her to high tea. It was a great experience until it was time to pay. Everything was just as good as my last visit but I was a little stunned when I went to pay for our high tea at the end of our reservation. I was under the assumption it was going to be $40 a person as it says on their online pricing and that's what it was for my last visit. It came to $108 for two of us. The guy ringing me up said it was because it was Valentine's Day. What? It was 3 days after Valentine's Day and I was never told of any up-charge ahead of time for making a reservation today (I made it a few weeks ago). What a gem of a tea shop. We booked an afternoon tea date for two following a backpacking trip and fell in love. They were very accommodating despite us being slightly late due to traffic driving back in town. We were presented with the tea list which is categorized by base i.e. green, white, black tea and herbal. The list is super extensive but we got plenty of help from the very knowledgeable waitress who was more than happy to outline the profiles of teas we were curious about or offer suggestions based on what flavors we were looking for. The duration of tea time gives you the chance to try about 2-3 pots of tea. Each pot holds about two large teacup's worth of tea. (Definitely great for rehydrating after a backpacking trip!!) We each had a scone with jam and clotted cream for the first pot, followed by a three-tier cake stand of treats. The treats we had that day included 'pigs in a blanket', spanakopita, a savory muffin, mini sandwiches, mini custard fruit tarts and cake slices. We really enjoyed each of the teas we tried and luckily high tea comes with a 10% discount of same-day purchases so we happily took some of our favorites home The interior is cozy with lots of natural sunlight streaming in. Such a neat experience! I'm so glad my friend and I braved the snow to check this place out. They have a huge selection of tea, some really delicious options I will add. The chocolate rum, coconut vanilla, and the macaroon tea were soooo so good. They served us mini scones to start, which were nice. I wish they had given us each cream/jam but there was just enough to share. The food tower was good, I do wish they had more homemade options on there, as the quiche and other items seemed to be a "throw in the oven to reheat" type of thing... the sandwiches were good, though! For dessert, it was a slice of cake and a ginger snap cookie. I wish there was more variety. For $45/person, I would expect a better quality of food/desserts and bigger scones. Still an awesome place to stop and get high tea. We ordered a charcuterie board and some mango/lavender cold tea over ice. Tea can be purchased by the ounce. They have some beautiful tea pots and accessories. They were crowded so plan your visit. This is just a great place to relax. I also noticed several tea parties for bridal and baby showers happening while we were there. There is a positive vibe and this house smells divine. I loved this place even before I walked in. It's a small, cozy, eccentric Tea House on South Broadway. They have an extensive selection of teas. My eye caught a glance right away of a Pistachio Rose Pu'er, and when I asked about it, Nina and Thaddeus recommended it. They said it was such a popular tea they have to limit how much they sell of it in bulk. I'm drinking it as we speak and I am not leaving here without my ration. Its phenomenal! Looking at their selection, I want to try so many, but I have to limit my consumption of caffeine. I'm going to come here after yoga on Broadway every weekend now. We had the high tea. My daughter reserved the time which I would recommend. The food was yummy. I really loved getting to try 7 different teas. You could try as many as you want. Overall, I had a lovely experience here for afternoon tea. The selection of tea was massive and there was truly something for everyone depending on what you were in the mood for or wanted to sample. I had 3 pots during our experience, the cherry vanilla, orange creamsicle, and spicy chocolate, all of which were very different but still delightful! I will say that their food did not impress me as much as some other spots in the area, mainly because most of the selections were savory and I was hoping for more sweet snacks. The scones and apple spice cake were the star of the spread in my opinion. Cute little tea shop with a plethora of glorious tea options. One window/corner even has couch seating. The ladies and I went for high tea this afternoon (reservations are a MUST for high tea, walkins are welcome for everything else). Tables for 2-4 but could possibly do a larger group with maneuvering if tables but again keep in mind this is a very small space. Staff was super friendly and checked on us regularly throughout the visit to assure our needs were met. Full on scones with jam + clotted cream, savory pastries, little tiny finger sandwiches, dessert and (of course) tea! They come in tiny little tea pots that pour maybe 2-3 full cups so that way you can change it up and try multiple different teas throughout your experience. I've always been a fan of high afternoon tea and they certainly did not disappoint! My only critique I can offer to further "elevate" this experience would be to allow us to peruse and select our tea cup of choice to drink out of, as well as a more detailed menu (to provide descriptions of each tea as some of the names do not shed any light as to their flavor profile). I wish I could give Capital Tea 10 stars. Absolutely love this place. Cute little local shop, good tea selection, affordable prices, and super friendly staff. I've always preferred to shop local when possible, and I've made even more of a conscious effort to do so during the craziness of COVID-19. I've also been purchasing more from businesses that have easy pick up options. Capital Tea checked both boxes for me. I was able to support local, peruse/order loose tea on their website, and I had the option to either ship the tea or pick it up. Since the tea shop is close by, and since I was passing it for another errand, I popped in to pick it up. The staff member immediately greeted me and asked how she could help. I told her I placed an online order and after giving my name, she passed me my bag. It was great that everything was ready to go and I didn't have to sign. She also thanked me for my business and told me how much Capital Tea appreciated everyone supporting the business by placing online orders. Now onto the tea - I selected the black ginger peach tea and the elderflower citrus oolong tea. I am obsessed with the black ginger peach tea. The peach flavor is a little more pronounced than the ginger, but it's really nice that the ginger flavor isn't overwhelming. The elderflower citrus tea is also really lovely. I think it will also be really refreshing as an iced tea. Once things calm down a bit I'm looking forward to hanging out at Capital Tea. The shop looked so cozy when I popped in. The furniture seemed functional and comfy, and the atmosphere was really laid back. I want to come in and enjoy some tea with a good book or to try the high tea that everyone keeps raving about. read more

We came here for a holiday tea and it was ok, not bad but not outstanding. First was the variety and choices of tea, wow!! So many! We got blueberry fizz, and maple cream and both were excellent. Overall it was pricey, and they charge 10.00 dollars more for each vegetarian order. Why, I wonder? That made it 90.00 for holiday tea for two. Yikes. Ok onto the food. It was fine: they had a couple little cucumber sandwiches, two more with tomato and a pimento kind of spread, spanikopita, and a unusual strata stuffing like thing. They didn't have a great dessert selection. Was hoping for what we paid, the desserts would be better. They had a fruit kebab type thing with blueberries, grapes, and strawberries. They also had a spicy cake thing and one ginger cookie each. That was it. Not bad, just nothing special. We felt a little ignored after the food came and we later found out when we went to pay, that our server took a break. I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do, no biggie, but weird timing. We had asked for more tea so we kinda just sat there for a bit. Other staff did check on us once and we got our extra tea with an apology. It is a cozy place and not too noisy at all. I really wanted to like this place. I love tea from the pu-erh's to the silver needles; I'm in. I unfortunately was really excited to try this place, and because of the way the staff acted-- it has made me not want to come back. This place has cute artwork on the walls, and looked like it had a great selection of tea. My family came in around the late afternoon and it took the staff 10 minutes to acknowledge me at the cash register, and another 10 minutes for them to notice my family member who was with me. I know that they were about 1.5 hours away from closing but you probably shouldn't announce in front of customers while they are waiting for you to acknowledge them "I hope no one else comes in through the door." The icing on the cake was when my family member asked about one of their hybrid earl gray teas on the menu (I believe something with blue flower), and she was responded with a "well, one has blue flower and the other doesn't." It gave us a good laugh when we left because we had to actually look up blue flower and found that this tea blend has a butterfly pea flower mixed in it‍. Everyone has bad days, maybe this was a bad day for them? I'm not asking for the staff to be overly nice, but it was overall a pretty terrible experience. I would say that my impression as a whole of this place is that it's clean on the inside, but there are other establishments in the Denver-Metro area that serve tea (including the traditional Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and Taiwanese teas: greens, oolongs, pu-erh's, white, Indian chai, and black teas) that are much more welcoming. read more

Wide assortment of loose leaf teas. Thus far I've really enjoyed both the lavender Earl grey and the mountain grown green tea. The staff are polite and the shop is very clean. They let you have a pot if you desire. It's cozy accommodations so be mindful of others. Not suitable for infants or children.
