I am not basing this review on authenticity since I have never been to Thailand or Burma, although I would love to. I am basing it on a comparison to the 35 or 40 other Thai restaurants I have been to in the US and Canada. My wife and I had lunch there yesterday. It was easy to get into with a private parking lot. That in itself is a plus compared to so many lunch places in Albany where you are forced to find a parking spot on the street and walk blocks to the restaurant. The restaurant was clean and inviting and we were met with a friendly waitress who seated us right away and brought menus. The menu has all of the usual suspects with descriptions of the dishes. They have a lunch special section which was missing a noodle option like pad Thai. If you want that, you have to order from the main menu. The lunch options include miso soup and rice. While not Thai, it was welcomed and tasty. My wife had a cashew chicken dish (level 1) and I had ground pork bai krapow (level 3), and we shared a green papaya salad (level 2). All dishes come in heat level 1-3. My wife liked her dish and the mild to medium heat level. My bai krapow came with 2 shrimp and a fried egg on top in addition to the expected dish. It was tasty, but not as hot as I expected since it used only dried chili. They used plenty, but once you fry dried chili the heat level drops. I would call this level 2 heat. In other restaurants where I have had this dish, they use fresh Thai chili when available. Fresh chili should have been available since there is a huge Asian market 2 miles up Central Ave. that sells them. Also the amount of vegetables was skimpy and was only peppers and onions mixed with the meat. Compared to other restaurants who usually do the sauced meat and basil separately from the vegetables, and include other vegetables like green beans. Mixing the vegetables with the meat may have also brought down the perceived heat level. Also, and this is a pet peeve of mine with Asian restaurants that don't give you a knife, the vegetables were cut in long strips making them awkward and messy to eat. The papaya salad was good and supposed to be level 2 heat, but was much hotter than my entrée. If my entrée was a 3, then the salad was a 5. I think this was do to the dry chili/lime juice combination. It gave me the heat I was looking for, but my wife couldn't eat it due to the heat. Not good for a dish that we planned to share. Overall, I would go back. Nothing special, but a good lunch spot. The portion sizes were good for the price. They need to work on the size the food is cut and develop a predictable heat level. read more

We have eaten at Capital Thai quite a few times and have always enjoyed our meals there. Hadn't been there since the onset of COVID-19, but decided to get take-out recently. It was just as excellent as always. There was plenty of food, and the leftovers all tasted just as delicious when reheated as they did originally. Service and prices are good, but food is so-so. Hard to explain, but in the two dishes I've had here (Thai fried rice and chicken larb), both were missing that delicious balance of flavors Thai food is famous for. I had to add sugar to my Larb, and the fried rice had zero fish sauce flavor. All in all not a terrible place but there's definitely better Thai in this area. read more

Having lived in Thailand for 4 years with family still there I am extremely critical of places that sell both Thai food and sushi? sushi? umm ok; anyhow went in the first night and ordered Phad Khi Mao seafood after speaking in Thai and was given the right broad noodles with the works! perfect! the papaya salad Som tum was allright; sorry not great; the next night went in and got Phad Khi Mao chicken but it was made with Phad Thai noodles and not the broad noodles; sorry not a good move guys; otherwise taste is great; good clean friendly place with excellent service. read more

What this place lacks in ambience, it makes up for in full on flavor. I admittedly had very low expectations for this place, as the storefront with its neon signage and strip mall location basically signaled "sucky" to me. Compound that by the fact that I live in NYC, where competing market forces have driven Thai food to become super good everywhere....I didn't think this place could possibly compare. But let me tell you, their papaya salad and tom yum soup totally blew me away! Spicy eggplant was a little less interesting, but still respectable. Flavors were authentic, undiluted, and they are unafraid with the spice--this ain't no joke--hot enough even for a Korean like me! I'll definitely be ordering take out again. read more

This is my go to spot for lunch. Food is excellent, prices are good, and service is friendly and quick. A great place for Thai.

We love this place and try to go there for lunch at least once a week. The prices are reasonable and the decor fairly slick....the chairs have white cloth covers. There are always fresh flowers in bowls on all the tables. The bathrooms are clean. Particularly good, if you like hot/spicy food, is the delicious Pad Khee Mao, stir fried noodles with seafood or meat, scallion, egg, vegetables, Thai bail leaves and hot chili paste. It's 7.95 for chicken, pork, beef or tofu for lunch, or $9.95 for dinner. If that's too hot, the regular Pad Thai is very soothing. For lunch you also get miso soup. It turns out to be a lot of food! We like the chicken noodle soup, too. Plenty of chicken. Lunch is $6.95. There's a very nice sushi bar, but we don't eat sushi. The chef, by the way, makes everything fresh, so you can tell them what veggies or whatever you don't want...(no bell pepper for us!) What also keeps us coming back is one of the waitresses, Laurie. She's a dear and a working mom. She adds some laughter and brightness to every meal. I know she works on Thursdays, but also maybe Tuesdays, too. read more

My bf and I usually go here when we want Thai. The food is pretty delicious, but the prices might be a little expensive from what I can recall (I believe the prices change for lunch and dinner). I always end up getting either the thai red curry or the chicken pad thai. The service is pretty good and there seems to be hardly any people there. read more

I visited this place a couple of times in my time here at Albany. Although it is in a very odd location the food was delicious..the first 2 times. The chicken tempura has too much ginger in it. The pad Thai I ordered today was horrendous, a deep "wet dog" like Stench. A couple of months back I had my food taken away as well, because it tasted so horrible. The times I did enjoy my food was when I ordered the yellow curry. Even so, in all the dishes I have ordered here the chicken is hard, and dry. I would not recommend the pad Thai to anyone, it was such a strong odor I felt like throwing up whilst in the restaurant. I took my entire "meal" to go. It went straight in the garbage when I home. Capital Thai is one of my favorite all time restaurants. The staff is really friendly and the food is REALLY good. Dine in or take out. It is in a strange location off of central ave going into the Home Depot near Westgate Plaza- but don't let that trick you. Pad Thai is great and I love the Pineapple Fried Rice. I love Thai and eat a lot of it. I had Panang Curry with chicken, and something was missing from it. My friend had the Pad See ieu and I have never seen it made with the small Pad Thai noodles,, I have only seen it made with the broad noodles. I tasted the Pad See ieu and it tasted ok and he finished it all so he must have thought it was ok. Service was ok , but menu a little confusing. I ordered online and had DoorDash deliver. The food was warm but.... it was terrible! I kept getting pieces of shrimp tails in my food. I also kept getting pieces of something else I don't even know what it was. I got pad noodles with shrimp. There was three pieces of vegetables which I thought should be more. I absolutely love the food here. I recommend the red and yellow curry along with all their spicy dishes. The only thing I think they could work on is the salads. The salads tend to be over seasoned where you get sick of the dish quickly. Especially when beef is involved. Besides that, the food is delicious. read more
