I moved here from Denver, and this the only place in the cities I have found that you can get a smothered breakfast burrito. (Always looking for others, let me know if they are out there). If you have spent any time in Colorado, New Mexico, or other parts of the Southwest US, you know what green chili is. The CVC doesn't have green chili, BUT the ranchero sauce is good. It is not authentic green chili--not really even all that close--but it fills a void in my stomach... Overall, this pace is outstanding. Yes, service can be on the slow side, but on a weekend morning, I am in no rush. The credit card thing is annoying, and unfortunately becoming more common. If you are going to the CVC, bring cash, bring the paper or some good company, and go a weekend morning. The food is totally worth the wait. read more

What they brought to my table was something I easily could have bought myself at the grocery store that very much resembled Mary Kitchens canned hash and it tasted like it. I've a long history with Capital View Cafe, and can attest to the intermittent service problems mentioned in earlier reviews. But those seem to have disappeared, for good. For the past 6-7 months I've stopped in for breakfast about every 3-4 weeks, and have had nothing but excellent service. I typically get the Cajun breakfast, the hash browns always cooked up nice and crispy, the eggs consistently perfect, and boasting a generous amount of green peppers and mushrooms. It's always andouille on the side for me too, along with unbuttered wheat toast. I often have problems elsewhere with toast delivered buttered regardless, but CVC gets it right every time. DELICIOUS!!! Hands down BEST hollandaise sauce EVER!! Seriously, if all you get is "American fries" (chopped potatoes) with a side of hollandaise, you'll be in food heaven. Their hollandaise is so rich and creamy but not mustard-y (which is good) but you have to try it! I only gave it 4 stars because the restaurant is a little dive-y. We live in the neighborhood so it's kinda fun to have a local place to go. I'd say their breakfasts are about average, but we come here often because hubby likes going out for brekkie. I just wish they had some interesting choices aside from the stuff we could make at home. We love their American fries, delish! For the most part the wait staff is on point! I totally love this place! My boyfriend and I have become regulars and go about once a week. About 90% of the time I get an omelet. They are HUGE and come with a large portion of your choice of potato and 2 slices of bread. If I feel spontaneous and a little naughty, I will get their pancakes. They are gigantic and so tasty. I also highly reccomend the french toast. My boyfriend gets their chicken fingers a lot. They are some of the best we've had. No joke. My stomach is always bursting at the seams when I leave! In regards to service, it is kind of hit and miss. There are a few servers there that are absolutely amazing. They will make sure our food gets out fast, cups are filled, and we are happy. But there a few that aren't so great. They will take a long time to get our order and get our food out. One of them (who usually works weekends, towards the closing) always forgets part of my meal or does something wrong. My sister has had the same problem with the same woman. I usually try and make sure we sit in the area of the good servers. Their prices are pretty good, in my opinion. Especially for the amount of food you get. I work at a coffee shop up the street and always reccomend this place to people looking for a big, delicious breakfast as we do not have a lot to choose from. Food is good at Capital View and portions are very generous. Atmosphere is adequate. The ceiling fans detract from the dining experience, from my perspective. Heating system is poor, so we were very chilled while sitting at a booth by the window. Twice we have visited this restaurant and then been shocked to pay the bill and then ask what a mysterious charge was on our bill only to find out that they charge a 3.5% total bill penalty if the payee uses a credit card. Neither of the times we were charged this fee did anybody warned us in advance about it, and unfortunately we forgot about this bizarre policy and got hit with it twice. Given that the food is really quite expensive for routine breakfast items, we feel that this policy is obnoxious. read more

Really disappointed with the young staff. While our waitress was great, I did decide to buy a cinnamon roll from the cashier. The cashier, who was also a waitress, looked at me and walked away. Customer service needs to be better. Long lines with "hosts" saying "go sit at the chair over there by the window". I don't know who I love more Yelp or this restaurant! I have been using Yelp before buying Groupons for the past couple of months and this was yet another stunner. The atmosphere is fun, the food is great and very reasonably priced. Add to that the most phenomenal customer service and it is a home run. "Would you like to order?" "Umm, no we're still looking!" I have been to this friendly neighborhood place for breakfast in the past. A few days ago we tried it for lunch and were blown away by the great food. We were there on a Friday and tried the "all you can eat" fish fry special. The fillets are lightly flowered with a well seasoned mixture and fried perfectly. The cole slaw is house made and really good. The tartar sauce was the best we've ever tried. They are only open for breakfast and lunch but we'll be back on a Friday for the fish. I meet here with co-workers about once a month. We used to have a great time up until recently when they started letting little kids work here. Your kids should be outside playing, not working in a restaurant at 12 years old! Also, don't sit on the side by the dishes. That's all you will hear the entire time, its loud! Extremely poor experience and way overpriced. A friend and I ordered the 'Steak & Eggs' for lunch (listed under 'The View Specialties'), when we got our orders, my steak was noticeably smaller than my friend's and over cooked (I ordered medium). The waitress forgot my toast and it arrived several minutes later. Moreover, at least a 3rd of my steak was pure fat. the rest of the meal mas mediocre at best. I complained to the waitress and she offered to give me a caramel roll for the 'inconvenience'. This was unfair as I still had to pay full price for a unsavory plate. To make matters worst, we also learned that coffee was an extra $2.69 (most places include this as part of the beverage options). On top of the 'Specialty' plate of $12.49, that brought up my bill to $16.40 after tax, which was way too much for what we got! I gave the rest of my $20 dollar bill as tip for the girl attending our table since she was helpful and friendly, and the poor experience with the meal was not her fault. I'd give it ZERO stars if possible. One thing is for sure, the group of friends I was at the time and I agreed this was our last time coming to that place. Not worth it. read more
