I came here for lunch on a Friday. The service was very friendly and checked in often! The food unfortunately was not my favorite, the hash browns tasted plasticy, the steak was very dry (I like well done but this felt super well done) Eggs were good! What a bummer! I've been knocking visiting each location off of my list. I had no idea about the Mendota Heights location! It's tucked away in a trendy business district, and boasts the traditional Ze's decor inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was more lively, as they had several TVs and an open kitchen concept.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The booths were a bit small. Our party of three small adults were cramped in the odd shaped booth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There were several Ze's tshirts on display all over, but nobody knew how to buy/order them. Our food was outstanding. Eggs benny, MN Rancher and Denver omelette. The service is one of my favorite things about Ze's. Not this visit. Our server had a scowl on his face and his micro bladed eyebrows were scrunched. He came to the table and really didn't say anything. Hubby ordered the rancher and the server literally asked, "Eggs? (How cooked) Meat? Toast?" and then turned to awkwardly take other orders. At first, I thought maybe it was a language barrier, but I heard him speaking to other staff just fine. We sat there quite a while, watching interactions at other tables and it was just atrocious. We saw him again when he delivered our plates (all to the wrong people) and when he dropped off the credit card scanner. We were never checked on and our drinks (including coffee) were never refilled. Beverages are pretty steeply priced, so that made it even more disappointing. I am so excited to have a diner experience so close to home. This has become one of our weekend staples when we feel like eating at a greasy spoon for brunch. One of my favorite things to order when we go here is the Tex Mex. I don't know what kind of magic they use to make this breakfast burrito, but I never leave hungry when I order this! I also love their Turtle Mocha when I want a little boost. My hubby and I also like to order the $10 burger Tuesdays, and the shakes that come with the burger and fries are probably some of the best I've had. I've previously been to the Eagan Ze's location, so when one opened up in Mendota Heights closer to home, I was eager to give them a try. They have classic diner fare, and prepare it well. I find the prices a little higher than I'd like for diner food, but they do have weekly specials that are more affordable. I like the Early Bird special (egg, bacon, hashbrown, toast, coffee) M-F 7-10am for $7.99 and the Tuesday burger/fries/malt for $10 deals the best. The menu is pretty extensive; there is something for everyone. The servers tend to be attentive and efficient. It looked interesting so we went in the waitress right away, came up to us asked how we were doing and walked us to our table and was telling us a little bit about the restaurant she went and got us a booster chair for my grandson told us s bit about the food on the menu she was just talking away to my grandson being silly he sure hade a big smile on his face she took our order said she will be back our food came out fast I was kinda skeptical it was so fast as she walked away my daughter said mom look hair in my food I called her over I took a bite of my burger and it was very red i was not happy with our food but our waitress Tanya was very respectful about it. First off, our server, Diana, was (IS) AMAZING! Professional, beautiful, funny and an absolute joy to talk with. Our food was unbelievable... and we are tough critics! Mustafa's Cornedbeef Hash was outta this world, I had the Mixed Mess... perfection (and I am very picky about my Hollandaise sauce!) and my husband and I shared the biscuits and gravy. Delicious!! Our kids had pancakes that were light + fluffy and perfectly crisp and delightful Belgian waffles. Truly, everything was picture perfect! And it was my son's 14th birthday and Diana surprised him with the largest slice of chocolate cake I have ever seen! And we ate every.single.bite! Great food and great atmosphere! I just don't understand where it went wrong with employees. I came in this evening to pick up a to-go order. As I was approaching the counter, the woman behind was scowling at me. I approach and all she says to me is "WHAT?" I mentioned that I have a to go order. She rolls her eyes at me, goes to grab it, returns to the counter and just says "Here." She looked like she was going to throw it at me. I said "Thank You." and she gave me the dirtiest look. This is difficult to rate. Great service, good breakfast food but....1. We sat near the kitchen and it was loud. The owner (?) stood and talked to the staff very loudly, near our table. It was frustrating! 2. Same owner (?) had on a very strong cologne. My friend, who has asthma had to go outside and use her inhaler. We came here by chance while going out to eat at noon. Not only were we surprised by the service the meal was delicious...definitely like home cooking. THEY JUST DON'T MAKE FOOD LIKE THIS ANY PLACE ELSE. We began coming on a regular basis and I couldn't be more satisfied. The food is superb...the wait staff and food are without a doubt unmatchable anywhere in the area.
