The corned beef hash omelette was delicious and I am still full hours later! Great service in downtown Lynn and street parking available. I stayed in Lynn, MA, while I was visiting a friend in Boston and wanted to stop and grab some food before I headed back to Philadelphia. I often saw this spot as I walked back to my Airbnb, and thus, I knew I wanted to try it. I stopped in around 8-9 am, and this small but comfortable diner was present with a cook, a waitress, and two older gentlemen- who seemed to be regulars, as the waitress often referred to them by name, who were getting breakfast and catching up on some small talk. The two gentlemen were unintentionally charming as the waitress and I got a good laugh out of their conversation with one another. This is what this diner exemplifies; A community diner that has great service and food for people who live in Lynn and those who do not, like me. It was such an experience, witnessing the chef cook everything on the flat-top stove and put together a fresh meal in a matter of minutes. I ordered the corn beef hash, two fried-hard eggs, and buttermilk pancakes. It all was fresh, hot, well-prepared, and tasty. The eggs were fried to perfection, the pancakes were fluffy and buttered up well, and the corn beef hash was flavorful and did not need much salt or pepper. All in all, this community diner was a wonderful and honestly CALMING experience. No phone, not too much noise... just good food, good vibes, good services, and a decent view into Lynn. read more

If you're in the area definitely recommend stopping by and dining here. The food was delicious and overall a good value. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu has plenty of options, however they do lack a selection of coffee beverages. They have basic diner coffee which was good. Would love to see them expand and include espresso based drinks. This place has been around forever, opened umpteen years ago... Named in 1938... Hmmm I think it has the original counters and stools...Very cool... The diner is an actual Brill dining car purchase in 1928.. There are a few tables outside to enjoy during the warm weather. This is a fun place to eat. Eating here is like stepping back in time. Breakfast is served all day. On this visit i enjoyed the Mushroom Swiss Burger. It cam to the counter cooked a perfect medium rare open faced with melted Swiss and a pile of Sauteed mushrooms and a bag of chips for $6.95 I also enjoyed a cup of fresh brewed iced coffee, they serve the milk on the side. The entire staff was well mannered, and my waitress was very attentive and personable. For such an old establishment, I was surprised at how clean everything was. Stopped in for a quick breakfast and found a local (every knows every everybody) diner gem with good food and a good homey feel vibe. The chef and server were both friendly and service was good. Portions were decent, I had a carnivore omelette which was very good and packed with ingredients, a side of hash and even the coffee is very good but it's served in styrofoam cups (save the environment) . Overall I heard friends talking, children laughing, people talking and everyone enjoying their meals. I would recommend this diner! read more

The Capitol was built by the Springfield factory of the J. G. Brill Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is generally considered to be the only real Brill diner still in operation. It has the typical Brill monitor roof, and entrances at either end, a style borrowed from streetcars and trains. The Capitol sits perpendicular to the sidewalk on a small lot, which has been nicely enhanced with the fenced-in garden. Outside the far entrance, there's a small deck for outdoor dining, a very unusual feature, and one that has been added without changing the essential character of this fine old diner. Well, I thought I would have an amazing diner experience based on the 5 stars this joint received and given the fact I LOVE diners. But alas, I had to find some things that needed improvement. First off it's in Lynn...enough said. So not diggin the location it's a little frightful if you ask me. Second, I do admit it was a cute box car diner, my better half and I walk in and were greeted promptly. They had a special St. Patrick's Day Menu which offered Stuffed French toast with an almond strawberry cream cheese filling, dipped in an Irish cream batter, sprinkled with confectioners sugar and topped off with whipped cream and almonds served along side a strawberry sauce. Sounds good, right? Well it wasn't bad, but it did make my stomach hurt afterwards, probably my own fault for consuming such a sweet breakfast item!!! But yes it was good. My better half ordered off of the special menu the Eggs Benedict. Nothing fancy about those. Just canned corned beef hash, poached eggs and holly sauce. I tried a bit; it was okay but not great. So after we finished we waited around for 10 or 15 minutes waiting for our check. Then finally someone noticed we were waiting and said "Oh don't you know we don't give checks, you just go up to the side and tell me what you had and I'll ring you up." Okay so that would have been helpful 15 minutes ago. You can't just assume everyone knows your diner rules. Any who we go to check out and I tell her I had the French toast, it came to $6.75. Okay fair enough, then Bryan says well I had the Eggs Benedict....are you ready for this???...It came to $9.50!!!! $9.50?!? For Eggs Benedict. I have never paid over $6.00 for an item such as that. So I was a bit put off by that. I mean had we been dining in a 5 star restaurant sipping on mint juleps then I could understand the price hike. Needless to say after enduring Dirty Lynn for an hour and getting ripped off. I won't be back. read more

Simply joyous! Went for a simple Sunday breakfast, and found a place where everyone is happy to see you. It's like you are an old friend, and it's just your first visit. Sat outside on the deck on a beautiful summer day, and had a delicious omelette. The only problem - after I was stuffed, this sinfully wonderful frech toast creation with a blueberry cream cheese center and fresh berries on top, walked by heading to the next table. Love this place, it's definitely by far one of the best breakfast spots in the north shore (if not, the best.) The vegetables are always fresh and the portions that give is just right. I always get my usual veggie omelette with bacon and extra mushrooms and they never seem to disappoint. I have known Bob (the owner) for a while and he and his staff are some of the nicest people who are dedicated to the restaurant and providing a welcoming environment for regulars and new comers alike. The food is cheap and made right in front of you (if you choose the bar seats which I recommend) and the diner is a great atmosphere of an old style diner which are rare these days. When I was old enough to take the bus by myse lf from Marblehead to Central Square, Lynn, I used to love the Capital Diner. That was waaaay longago. The Capital has been here a loooong time. It is still providing comfort food as only a diner can, because the craving for diners has remained strong over the decades. I remember when the owner used to have a small chicken coop in the miniscule "yard" of the diner, with a couple of chickens. I don't think the eggs ever went into the diner fare, but it was a nice, homey touch. But enough of the past. Here and now, you can get a rib-sticking breakfast or brunch of bacon, eggs cooked to preference, hash browns, toast and coffee, a small OJ, and you'll waddle out of there wanting nothing more than to take a nap for the rest of the day. I love the blueberry pancakes, which are leaden and dense, but oh-so-scrumptious with a side of bacon. Omelettes are always a great choice there, and they come with various fillings -- sweet peppers, onions, ham, etc. Again, it's a diner. It's comfort food. It's good. read more
